"Hi Riley... Welcome back." Erin whispered.

Riley held the smile smirk on her face for a few more moments before her eyes shut briefly as she winced in pain, letting out a tiny squeak as she did so.

"Hey, you ok?" Erin said moving from the thresh hold of the room to pull a chair up by Riley's bedside.

"Everything.. everything hurts." Came Riley's small voice. Her eyes remained squeezed shut.

Finally after a few moments Riley's face illustrated that her pain had subsided. She opened her eyes and looked up at the ceiling. Again, her soft voice came. "I'm in a hospital, what happened?"

Erin Lindsey's heart sank. "What?"

Riley turned her little face to look at Erin's. Her eyes were still black and blue, but no swelling remained."Why-" She winced, before continuing, "-am I in a hospital?"

"Riley I-" Erin didn't know what to say or tell the young girl. She lowered her eyes for a moment to think. Erin had to be a cop in this moment.

She took a breath. "Riley, do you remember anything prior to waking up today." Erin said gently.

Riley made the smallest shake of the head no.

"Erin, why am I in a hospital? Whats happened to me?" Riley was starting to get a bit upset. After all, she had just woken up from her comma a little over an hour ago.

"What's the last thing you remember?" Erin asked, knowing this was hard.

Riley removed her eyes from Erin's and looked back up to the ceiling. She was silent and still for a few moments, her eyes twitting back and forth. Erin could see she was trying desperately to remember something.

"Waking up.. doctors... asking where I was.. asking for you..." Riley finally answered. She turned her head to meet Erin's eyes again.

There were tears in her eyes. Partly from pain, partly from not understanding this strangeness she had woken up to.

"Riley.. I, we, think your father attacked you a few days ago... I came to your house... you were laying there-" Erin resisted the urge to say in a pool of your own blood.. this was hard enough for Riley as it was.. Erin could spare the kid the gruesome details. "I called an ambulance. You were in the ER, the OR, now you're in the ICU." Erin finished as gently as she could. She had done a many of these for other victims but this time felt different for Erin.

"Erin, I don't remember.." Riley whimpered quietly.

"Its ok Riley, its ok." Erin soothed, reaching out a hand and gently stroking Riley's hair.

Within moments, Riley was asleep.

It was going on 1:00am as Erin headed back into Chicago. He body hung with sleep but her mind was restless. Erin turned down her music as she picked up her phone, dialing it.

It rang a few times before a sleepy voice answered. "Hello.."

"Hey Kelly, did I wake you?"

"No, no... yes," Severride's voice answered.

"Oh shit, I'm sorry-"

"Its ok Erin really I needed to be up for a night drill in an hour or so anyway, whats up? How's Riley?" Severide said sincerely.

"She's awake, Kelly." Erin breathed into the phone.

Kelly Severide fell silent for a heartbeat before speaking again. "Wanna come over? I'll put a fresh pot of coffee on?"

"I don't know Kelly.. You got that drill in an hour and-"

"Great! See you in a few minutes." *click*

Erin shut her phone, shaking her head, and smiling.

Erin pulled into the Firehouse 51 driveway. She walked quietly into the Kitchen where Kelly was pouring two mugs of below average coffee.

"Hey," He said, greeted her with a kiss.

"Hey yourself," Erin replied before taking a seat at the table across form him.

Erin quickly filled him in and brought him up to speed.

"Damn.." Severide said. He wished he could say more but damn was all he could seem to muster at that moment.

"This is bad Kelly... If Riley doesn't get her memory back this could only strengthen her father's burglary break in case."

Just then they both heard the sound of the ambo pulling into the hanger before Shay and Gaby quietly walked into the kitchen.

"Told ya, saw the light, knew someone was up." Gabe said nodding to Kelly and Erin.

"Well look who it is," Shay greeted Erin before giving Kelly a kiss on the check. "Is that fresh coffee?"

Severide nodded in response.

"Dawson, you want some?" Shay offered.

"Na women, I drink that now and I'll never go to sleep, night." Gabby said.

"Night Dawson," Kelly said.

"Yeah goodnight." Erin replied.

Shay meanwhile poured herself a cup of coffee and sat down with Erin and Kelly, whom brought her up to speed as well.

Shay nodded when they were finished. "Poor kid. Can't seem to catch a break can she."

"Yeah," Erin sighed.

"Well lets not expect the worse quite yet.. she did just wake up from a three day comma... she might get her memory for that event back in a day or two... though personally, if it didn't hurt her case, I wish she never had to remember.. it be better for the sweet girl, honestly." Shay finished.

Erin and Kelly nodded.

The three chatted for a few more moments before Erin thought it was best she be going. After all, she did have work in the morning. And tomorrow, she had a feeling was going to be a long day.
