Immortals - chapter 37

Hades swerved to the side at the last moment and cut at Theron once he was beside his brother. The Titan quickly ducked and the blow harmlessly cut the air above him, he turned his chariot round in a circle and charged at Hades from behind. Persephone shouted a warning and the god of the dead turned his chariot around after flattening a few dracaenae. This time Theron made his chariot go round the side of Hades and forced the horses to move faster, coming up alongside the god from behind. Hades blocked the first cut and retaliated as the horses trampled anything in their path. Theron leaned back to avoid Hades' slash and swung the butt of his weapon up to try and catch the god by surprise but he only succeeded in cutting into his chariot. Hades used the short second he had and flicked his wrist, his black sword cut into Theron's armour making a small gash and golden ichor slowly seeped through the gap in the chest plate.

Theron disengaged the chariots and quickly looked around the battlefield. Percy and his friends were heading into the Empire State Building to try to stop Kronos and the campers were slowly pushing the monsters back with the help of the undead warriors. He saw Nico cutting a dracaenae in two and quickly stopped an arrow from hitting his nephew in the back by creating a wall of air. There was a ring clear of any monsters or half-bloods around where the two chariots were riding. Theron looked towards the Hudson River and estimated that Typhoon would reach it in about half an hour. He frowned and turned back to Hades who was watching him sadly.

"I offer you the same option now as the one I did last time, brother." Hades called. "It is not too late to join us."

"And I will say the same thing. I am sorry, little brother. My fate is not mine to decide, I have no choice. Kronos may not be a good father sometimes, but recently he has gotten better. He cares more, despite his drive to tear down Olympus. He may have swallowed you when you were a godling, but our little brother would do the same, wouldn't he?"

"He has grown a big head," Hades acknowledged. "I don't want to have to kill you, brother."

"Then don't," Theron said as he grinned. "Let me kill you instead."

"Me, no," Hades muttered and Theron charged again, his trident pointing straight at the god's neck. When they were about to meet Hades blasted Theron in the face with black fire and the Titan reeled away in pain. He was the Titan of Elements, but he had to concentrate so that fire wouldn't harm him and the attack was done too late for him to shield himself. Theron's chariot smashed into a skyscraper and a dust cloud prevented Hades from seeing what had happened. Then arrows flew out of the dust rapidly one after the other, all of them directed towards the Lord of the Dead's chariot. Hades, Demeter and Persephone quickly took cover until the hail stopped then peeked over the front in time to see a fireball heading at them. They dived out of the chariot in time for it to go up in flames.

"He's mad," Demeter muttered. "Brother-"

"Go, Demeter," Hades said cutting her off. "I'll stop him. Take down the army with Persephone."

"Hades-" Persephone said, she didn't know who the Titan was, but she knew he was powerful. Probably on par with Kronos himself, the chances of Hades surviving were minimal.

"Go, Persephone." Hades said and the goddesses nodded before turning to the monsters army and charging straight into their midst looking like avenging Valkyries.

"You've become cold," Theron said.

"Come out of there, brother, and face me like the old days." Hades said harshly as he tried to see Theron through the dust obscuring his vision.

"As you wish," Theron muttered and charged out of the dust straight at his brother. His armour was singed black from the fire and covered in dust, but still visibly golden. Hades easily blocked the first stab and cut at his brother's feet, but Theron calmly jumped over the black blade and tried to smash the god's head in with the shaft of the spear. A loud crack echoed off the skyscrapers and Theron stared at the broken weapon in his hands. "You have a hard head." He noted dryly after cursing under his breath before shrugging and morphing the weapon's halves into his two warglaives, quickly settling into a stance. The two immortals circled each other as they waited patiently for the other to strike first. Theron shifted forward like he was going to attack and Hades instinctively lifted his sword, and then Theron struck when Hades' vision was impaired slightly by the blade. A deep gash appeared in the god's chest plate and he hissed in pain as golden ichor started to flow. Theron jumped back before Hades managed to hit him and regarded Hades like a hunter would their prey as the god recovered quickly. Theron knew he had to finish this fight soon – Kronos must be in the throne room by now and Typhoon was no more than twenty minutes from the Hudson River. The Titan concentrated on his two warglaives until he was holding two very familiar black blades, a Katana and a traditional Greek leaf-shaped sword, Hades' eyes widened.

"I assume this was the Titans' plan all along?" He said with his eyes glinting in anger. "Have someone they can trust to pass information to them?"

"They will never trust me," Theron replied as he closed the distance between them and the fight continued. He moved rapidly, black blades flashing as Hades was forced back step by step with a look of intense concentration on his face. Hades was hard pressed to parry away the blows and knew he needed something to give him an advantage over his elder brother. He quickly gestured with his left hand and shadows rushed across the ground towards the Titan. Theron laughed and pointed his sword at the shadows, but when nothing happened his eyes widened and he projected a shield of fire in front on him to stop the shadows from reaching him. Hades kept up the shadows as he blasted Theron's fire with his own. Theron gritted his teeth as his energy decreased. He then saw Nico was helping Hades by controlling the shadows whilst the god held back Theron's shield. The shadows swarmed towards the Titan and he cursed. Whatever he did he would be harmed. If he turned to Nico and the shadows, Hades would burn him and if he forced Hades back the shadows would reach him quickly.

Theron turned to Hades. He was the biggest threat and the Titan need to win this fight in the next few minutes if he was to reach the throne room on time. Hades charged at his brother and they met in the middle, Theron taking care to avoid the shadows creeping up on him. He had become used to controlling them whilst he was Seth, but he was only able to do that because he was around Hades and the god had blessed him. As a Titan the blessing had been destroyed and he had lost his powers over darkness. Hades pressed down on Theron, gradually sending him back to Nico. Hades darted inside Theron's guard and punched him, Theron reeled back then twisted his wrist and his katana pushed down on the god's sword, forcing him to drop it. Hades backed up with the Titan's blade at his throat and cleared his throat, noticing his brother's hesitation.

"You can't do it, can you?" He asked.

"You may be a god, the enemy," Theron said sadly as he looked from the black Othryian Iron to Hades. "But you are family, despite how eternally messed up we are. And I do not kill family." He paused and sighed, "Though I cannot have you following me, so…" He stabbed Hades through the chest and the god froze, Theron took care not to stab a lung or anything important and looked at his brother miserably as he carefully withdrew his sword. "I am sorry, brother, but father needs me. The Fates have ordered for history to repeat. The lost son of the Titans' number one," he intoned, "Shall help fate by betraying The Sky's son."

"I knew you would return," Hades laughed as ichor flowed from his chest. "Zeus didn't believe me, but you can never keep your nose from our affairs. Show Zeus why he shouldn't have sent you to Tartarus, brother." Theron nodded and stood up, turning his blades back into his hybrid weapon. He turned into a Griffin and soared up to Olympus as Persephone screamed when she saw her husband lying on the ground. The battle continued to rage as Theron gradually became smaller and smaller.

What do you think Hades was referring to in the last paragraph? And who can understand what will happened next chapter?

Seth's (or should i just call him Theron)relationship poll:

Styx wins!

I have 3 chapters left.

Should i go straight into HOO or do a story (prequel) about Theron being born up to the end of the Titanomachy? I need to know by the end of this story so i can start writing immediately.

I have started my Percy Jackson Teen Wolf xover so if you could just take a look at it if you are interested in that.
