Title: An Agreeable Arrangement: A Draco & Samantha Story

Chapter 16-Christmas Miracles

Previously: "If you're going to open this gift though, it comes with a very important question. Samantha Athena DeVega Black, will you marry me?"

In later reflection Samantha would say that she was caught up in the moment, or that she was trying to sell it, or whatever the truth was she was entirely swept off her feet like a pathetic love sick teenager.

"Yes. Yes. Yes!" She flung her arms around Draco's neck laughing as he scooped her up into a hug.

She had almost forgotten that everyone else was still in the room when Ted pulled on her leg. "Sami, you have to put it on!"

Both Samantha and Draco laughed, "Of course, you are right mate. What would I do without you?"

"Be sad and lonely." Suggested the 5-year-old shrugging his shoulders.

Mrs. Weasley was delighted clapping her hands together she pulled a bewildered Draco into a hug giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Welcome to the family dear."

Draco's heart warmed at that. "Thanks Mrs. Weasley. That means a lot!"

"He's not part of the family yet." George stated, "Give it a few months before Samantha comes to her senses and realizes Lee Jordan's her one true love." He said jokingly.

"Nah mate, Malfoy will have realized how crazy Sam is before that and run for the hills." Fred said.

"Or you know, Draco could come to more family events and realize that as much as he likes Samantha spending time with you two isn't worth it." Katherine stated, as she hugged her twin.

"I'm just excited to have you as a sister-in-law Katherine." Draco said easily giving her a peck on the cheek as she hugged him.

"See, pretty and smart. This one's a catch Samantha!" Katherine said with a wink.

"Champaign all around!"

After everyone settled down and said their congratulations the group finished exchanging gifts, and filled their bellies with Christmas pudding.

Tori and Teddy were snoozing on the floor by the fire and everyone else was in various states of food coma.

"It's time to call it a night I think." Bill said, helping a very pregnant Fleur from the couch before heading over to scoop up Victoria.

There were mumbles of consent from around the room as people got up to leave. Fred and George helped Bill with Tori's gifts and Hermione and Katherine began sending all the dishes into the kitchen while Harry, Arthur and Ron disappeared the wrapping paper around the room.

Molly and Andromeda came out of the kitchen with leftovers for everyone.

"Thank you Mrs. Weasley, wonderful as always." Samantha said as she took the tupperware from her to distribute. "Of course dear, and congratulations. We will have to get together soon to discuss plans."

Draco bent down to wake Teddy, "Time to go mate." He said shaking the child gently.

Ted just shook his head never opening his eyes. "You can just pick him up. We'll apparate him straight to bed." Sirius said using his wand to gather the various toys around the floor.

"Thank you Molly. Andie I'll bring this stuff back to the house. You are staying over, yeah?"

"Yes, thank you Sirius. We'll be along in a moment." Andromeda saying goodbye to everyone. Samantha nodded at Draco, "I'll be out in a second."

Sirius and Draco made their way out into the yard with Teddy in tow.

"I have to say, you move fast Malfoy." Sirius said as they walked not looking up from the gifts he carried in front of him.

"In my defense, I did not plan for it to happen like that. Having said that, I care about Samantha, I think she cares about me. Why would I wait longer? Do I still have your approval sir?"

"Would it matter if you didn't?"

"It would not stop me from marrying her, but of course it matters. My family will never accept my choices, and that's okay because frankly I don't need their approval, they don't have mine why should I care about theirs. You and Samantha though, you're close, you mean the world to her and if I am going to join this family I want to be welcomed, not forced."

Sirius nodded as they reached the gate at the edge of the property at the apparition point. "You're welcome Malfoy, you've proved yourself and I know better than anyone that you can't judge a man's character based on his name."

He clasped Draco's shoulder in support, "If anything you'll keep Samantha in one place for a while."

Samantha and Andromeda were making their way over to them as Draco chuckled. "Well I can certainly try."

"What are we talking about?" Samantha asked as they approached within earshot.

"You of course dear. Isn't that all we ever talk about it." Sirius joked.

"Ishould be." Samantha stated giving her father a kiss on the cheek as Andie took Teddy from Draco's arms.

"Happy Christmas dear's. Will we be seeing you tomorrow?" she asked giving Samantha a final hug farewell.

"Potentially, we might be too busy celebrating our engagement if you know what I mean." Samantha said with a grin.

"No, No we don't know what you mean. We don't want to know what you mean. Stop talking about it." Sirius stated, pouting like a child.

"I'm gonna be a married woman father. You see when two people love each other very much…"

Sirius at this point turned a very interesting shade of purple before Andie took pity on him. "Samantha, you're going to give your poor father a heart attack. Come on Sirius, we're leaving happy Christmas dears."

"Happy Christmas!" Samantha and Draco said together, waving goodbye as the other two, with Teddy in tow apparated out of sight with a small pop.

"Are you trying to get me killed by your father? Because I'm fairly certain he could kill me without even batting an eye, and I would be dead and it would be all on you." Draco said shaking his head at Samantha's antics.

"Yes, that would be a shame. I'm far too young to be a widow." She said thoughtfully turning to look at Draco, "So…A Christmas Eve proposal, a little typical don't you think?"

"Excuse me, I think it was rather romantic of me, got down on one knew everything darling. Frankly I think my proposal was well done." Draco said proudly throwing a lazy arm around Samantha's shoulders as they headed out of the gate and turned to apparate home.

"Yes, well you would think highly of your proposal, it's you after all. So Drake, you really planning on jumping off a cliff for me?" Sam teased turning and disapparating on the spot with a pop.

Draco shook his head and quickly followed popping out of sight and landing in front of their new home where Samantha stood on the front step waiting expectantly for a reply.

"Not at the moment, but I did hear talk about things married people do. Should we practice that before the wedding."

He circled his arms around her pulling her flush against his body and backing her up into the door. Before she could protest he had his lips on hers drowning out any witty retort she may have had. Instead her arms circled around his neck tugging at the longer pieces of hair that curled there before moving up to scrape his scalp.

Draco groaned moving Samantha slightly to the side so he could open the door. They tumbled into the foyer Draco just barely being able to stabilize them both before shutting the door behind him.

"Smooth Malfoy, very smooth." Samantha laughed as she took a step back to right herself.

"Would you shush. This is supposed to be a romantic moment in which you fall into my arms and profess your undying love for me."

Samantha went to say something but Draco stopped her by putting a finger to her lips, "Nope, unless it is a confession about how you have loved me since Hogwarts, not a word woman."

"You did not just call me woman." Samantha protested hand on hip. At which point Draco gave up, rolling his eyes he placed one arm behind her shoulders and scooped her up from under legs with the other carrying he bridal style up the stairs.

It was not until the next morning that it hit Samantha that she was really engaged to Draco Malfoy.

Technically you have been married to him since your Birthday her subconscious pointed out.

This got her thinking again, Draco didn't necessarily propose because he wanted to, he was stuck with her regardless.

Though if you think about it, he didn't have to surprise you with a ring. He didn't have to give a speech or propose in front of your family. But he did…That means something right?

She didn't know what it meant. She turned slowly in bed to lie on her side and stare at her "fiancé"

They had been thrown into this crazy whirlwind together, it was Draco who told her that they were partners, Draco Malfoy & Samantha Black. They both had a vested interest in making this work.

Besides, look at him. You know you like him, so admit it and move on.

He was a good looking man. Samantha knew that as much as he did. Which brings up the fact that he was also arrogant as hell and sometimes it was unclear whether his ego would fit through the door.

You like the arrogance though, you enjoy it. Also, can we talk about the sex for a second. *sigh*

That was true, they were certainly compatible physically, and intellectually he kept her on her toes. He was a good dancer and she enjoyed the time she spent with him.

Was that enough though, this was the rest of her life she was talking about and could she spend it with someone like Draco Malfoy?

You're going to have to. Old time magical contract, remember?

She couldn't lay there anymore. She rolled over and got out of bed, eliciting a small grumble from the sleeping blonde before he rolled over never waking up.

She got dressed in a sweatshirt and leggings and quietly exited the room. She walked down the hall stopping at Teddy's room.

Her and Draco had just finished setting up. Ted hadn't seen it yet, but Draco was very proud of the collection of toys he had stocked the place with. There were several dragons looking up at her from their place on the boy's bookshelf.

"This way he can learn the different species." Draco had told her when she announced he was trying to buy Teddy's love. "These are simply for educational purposes."

Draco was good with Teddy, hell he was great with Teddy. She continued down the hall to stop at the other rooms that were currently empty. One of her complaints about this house was that they would have a bunch of empty rooms that would do nothing but collect dust.

Draco had suggested she take a couple of them to store her shoes. He was only half joking as her shoes currently took up the majority of closet space in their own bedroom.

Now though she could picture filling these rooms. She hadn't thought about children really, in fact the only time it had come up was when her and Draco had discussed it all those months ago in her flat.

She probably should think about selling that flat now. Part of her had been holding on to it, thinking she would be back their eventually. The reality however was that this was her home now.

She looked down at her left hand that held her engagement ring. It was a silver band, knowing how Draco was it was probably platinum. It had a simple cut diamond set in the middle with red stones set around it.

Red like Gryffindor. She thought with a smile, she looked down at the ring again and the stones had changed to green then back to red. She hadn't noticed it before now, but Draco had gotten a ring to reflect both of them. He would have had to have had it specially made, the stones were definitely spelled to change.

It was subtle though, you would only notice it if you were truly staring. It was something special and personal, an inside joke but also a thoughtful gesture.

Samantha's breath caught, she was going to spend the rest of her life with Draco Malfoy, and she was happy about it. For the first time in her life she could see her future unfolding and was content with it. Everything seemed right.

Author's Note: I swear I will finish this story. I have the story arc set up and have the last chapter written, it's getting to that place that I'm struggling with. Thank you so much for your patience and sticking with me through these stories. Samantha Black is a character that I love and want to do more with, I just need to find the time to sit down and write.
