I am back to school so updates will probably come slower as I need to concentrate on my school work.
Clash of the Titans - chapter 38
Theron hated The Fates. He hated the deal Kronos and him had made when they announced Kronos was to fade when he was chopped up. He hated that he had agreed to become their servant if his father was spared, it had backfired. They ordered him to help the gods and turn on the Titans. The gods were fighting Typhoon and losing, Kronos was trying to destroy Olympus, and Theron was flying up there to stop him. Originally he would have hated The Fates even more, but now after spending decades with the gods he cared for them and didn't want Kronos to tear down Olympus. Theron was fine with some immortals being sent to Tartarus, the others he wanted to save. If course he couldn't tell his father to only destroy the throne of Dionysus, Aphrodite, Ares, and Athena. He knew Kronos would ignore him and tear down the rest, and that was why Theron had – and wanted – to stop him.
Olympus was dark despite the rising sun, godlings, nature spirits, and demigods lay wounded on the streets where Kronos had struck their futile efforts at stopping him. Theron saw a destroyed shrine to Artemis blasted to rubble and a statue of Hera had toppled over near the entrance to the throne room. He touched down in front of the doors, feeling his eye blacken from Hades' punch and prepared himself to open the doors when a blast of electricity hit him in the back. He shook as the few hundred volts magnified as it passed his armour and turned to glare at whoever had done it. A spiky-haired lieutenant of Artemis glared at him from under the statue of Hera, her legs were trapped but she still managed to give him a perfect death-glare, though it wasn't even close to his father's.
"Thalia," he mused as he looked at the statue, Hera's face had been dented and crack from the fall. "What are you doing lying about? Shouldn't you be stopping my father?"
"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be fighting Hades?"
A voice rang out over Olympus and the whole of Manhattan. "Now my brethren! Strike for Olympus!" Theron wasted no time and rose into the air so he would see what was happening. Typhoon was in the Hudson River, hundreds of lines of hard black metal around him and Cyclops riding sharks, dragons, and seahorses pulling him down into the river. The gods struck and Theron was pleasantly surprised to see Poseidon amongst them. Lightning struck, again and again as Typhoon slowly sank into the river. A whirlpool formed at his feet, leading straight to Tartarus and the storm giant was gone.
"I have," Theron snorted as he turned back to Thalia and pointed to his bruise. "See?" He then snapped his fingers and the statue lifted off her, landing harmlessly before starting to roll down the mountain. "Hera is going for a run, say 'good bye'." He snickered before cocking his head to the side when an explosion almost knocked him off his feet. "Father's going overboard." His expression turned serious as he turned to face the big double doors. "Stay here. Do not come in whatever you do, this is going to be ugly." He then marched towards the doors and flung them open without another word.
Inside the throne room was chaos. Annabeth was crumpled at the base of her mother's throne unconscious. Grover was trying to feed her Ambrosia, Ethan had disappeared and there was an open fissure in the floor leading straight into open air. Percy's sword skittered over the edge and Kronos advanced angrily towards the demigod. He raised his sword, ready to finish the son of Poseidon off and Percy dived at the Titan, straight under the flashing blade and both of them went flying. Kronos punched Percy and he flew back, landing on his back with a muffled thump as the air was forced out of him. The Titan Lord growled as he tried to smash the hilt of Backbiter into Percy's forehead only to have his strike parried away and something whacked him on the side of his head, sending him stumbling. He looked up to see Theron standing between Percy and the Titan.
"Son, move out of the way," Kronos growled fiercely. "I have had enough of your insubordination."
"No." Theron said sharply. "I will not let you harm them any longer. Yes, The Fates have told me to do this. But, they are family despite how much you may wish differently."
"Very well," Kronos said. "I will be forced to kill you, then. You would die for the Olympians?"
"I would fade for the Olympians." Theron corrected and Kronos looked resigned to what he would have to do.
"You have never managed to defeat me on your own before, son. Turn your back and walk out now if you value your life."
"I don't need to defeat you," Theron grinned. "Just delay you long enough."
Kronos' expression tightened and he ran at his son as time seemed to slow. Theron quickly raised his weapon and blocked Backbiter, swiping up the butt of his weapon to try to get in an early hit. Kronos simply ducked away from the attack and swept the flat of Backbiter at Theron's legs, knocking the younger Titan over before he could react. Theron's eyes widened and he rolled to the side as a blade skimmed past his helmet and buried itself into the floor. He then looked over to the demigods and satyr in the room, he couldn't take to his divine form with them around and he knew he would lose if he couldn't. He rolled again as Kronos tried to impale his stomach and gestured to the hearth yelling, "Protect them, sister!" The hearth surged forward and pulled the three into Hestia's embrace, shielding them amongst the coals. Kronos began glowing golden from inside the body of Luke. Theron blocked his next attack with the shaft of StormWraith and kicked his father between his legs so he could get up.
"Father, stop," Theron said as he readied himself with his hybrid weapon held in front of him. "You don't have to do this." He pleaded.
"You have betrayed me for the last time, son!" Kronos roared.
"It's not my fault!" Theron yelled and felt tears form in his eyes. "It's The Fates! You know what they're like, father!"
"You could have tried to fight back and not let them control you!" Kronos bellowed as he attacked. Theron felt his sadness change into anger and it built up in his body until he released it in a scream. A wall of force rapidly spread out in a circle and blasted everything away from him – Kronos included.
"I have tried, father!" Theron yelled barely controlling his anger. "Hundreds of times I have tried to alter fate, to change things without them knowing. Of course, you wouldn't know this; you've spent all of your time thinking about how to destroy your children. They may be the enemy, but they are family!"
"They are no family of mine!" Kronos roared. "And if you continue this path neither will you be!"
"Fine then, Lord Kronos," Theron said sharply and started to glow as he took his divine form. Luke was steadily getting brighter. Theron stumbled as Kronos stabbed him in the leg, Backbiter stopping the younger Titan from taking his divine form. Kronos' scythe may be in a different form, but it still had the ability to cause incredible pain to anyone it cut. The blade was withdrawn and ichor started flowing from Theron's thigh as he almost fell over. Kronos' face briefly looked pained as he watched his son. Theron concentrated on all of the monsters below them and drew power from his domain. Theron rose to his feet unsteadily and one look at his father's face told him that Kronos was proud of him. Theron ran at the Titan King and parried away a cut at his shoulder before trying to run him through with his trident. The weapon harmlessly bounced off of the Titan's chest and Theron realised he had forgotten that Luke had bathed in the River Styx.
Theron blocked a slash at his chest with the shaft of his weapon and swung the spike around to try and catch his father off guard, but Kronos easily shifted slightly to the left and avoided the point. Theron gritted his teeth at his failure to harm his father as he tried to stab him then followed up with a punch with his left hand, but Kronos caught his fist and twisted his hand around then kneed Theron in the chest. The younger Titan gasped for breath as the air rushed out of his lungs and Kronos stood back, watching him struggle for air. Theron growled and raised his hands, dropping StormWraith, hellhounds burst from the edges of the room and pounced at Kronos, but he laughed as he slowed them down in time and dispatched of each of the hounds with a clean cut.
"I that all you've got?" Kronos mocked. "I thought we taught you better than this."
"Oh, I assure you. I'm only just getting started," Theron grinned as he waved his hand and a circle of fire sprung up around his father. He could see Kronos glaring at him through the flames and smiled innocently, which only increased his glare. Kronos looked at the fire circling him and waved his hand. A wall of force put the fire out and nearly knocked Theron off his feet.
"I hate you so much," Theron muttered as he regained his balance. Kronos chuckled as he twirled Backbiter around his wrist and waited for his son to run at him. Theron sighed as he ran, knowing he didn't have to last much longer. He tried to whack Kronos' side with the shaft only for the other Titan to recover quickly and cut into his side. Theron winced as he turned and slashed with the sides of the trident. Kronos raised a hand and stopped the weapon without any harm done to himself. Theron waited for Kronos to attack him this time and he wasn't disappointed. Kronos feinted a stab towards Theron's left shoulder then flicked his wrist and tried to cut him across the chest, but Theron managed to react quickly and blocked the blade, then punched his father in the face. Kronos stumbled back, not hurt, but from the strength behind the blow. Theron pressed his small advantage and stabbed Kronos' side near his Achilles Heel. Kronos rapidly recovered and slashed across his son's chest, tearing the armour like paper and cutting deeply into flesh. Theron roared in pain as the effects from the blade hit him at full strength. Kronos kicked him away and he skidded across the room, stopping in front of the broken doors as they creaked open and the Olympians marched in. They looked at the scene with looks of horror on their faces. The three siblings of Theron looked at him with open mouths as he struggled to get off the floor. He had released his grip on StormWraith when his father had kicked him and it lay across the room, where it stayed when he tried to summon it to his hands.
"Get up and fight!" Kronos bellowed at Theron completely ignoring the Olympians. "Are you a Titan or are you are coward with no honour?"
Theron put a hand beneath himself and pushed off the floor to stand on swaying legs and face Kronos with the gods behind him. "I am no coward. I am not like Prometheus, I have honour." Hr then ran at Kronos, diving forward and changing into a DireWolf. Theron leapt at the other Titan intending to tear his head off, but Kronos had a different idea. As Theron reached him Kronos ducked and swung his sword up above him, cutting from the base of his neck and down to his kidney. Theron yelped and changed back just before he landed at the base of Zeus' throne. He rolled over and coughed, ichor splattered onto the floor. Kronos started advancing towards the fallen Titan only to be met with a flash and a trident pointed at his neck.
"Don't touch him."
"Poseidon," Kronos growled, "Get out of the way."
"No." The god of the sea said stubbornly. "Leave, father. You are outnumbered and will lose if you continue. I swear it on the Styx." Poseidon declared and Kronos looked irritated.
"I'll take down as many of you with me as possible then." Kronos stated and attacked. The Olympians quickly galvanized and attacked the Titan Lord. Hermes refrained from the fight as he didn't want to harm his son, and instead curiously checked on the Titan breathing heavily at the base of Zeus' throne.
"Ambrosia, nephew," Theron weakly ordered. "And nectar. I need to-" He tried to get up, but fell back down.
"Who are you?" The god of Travellers asked as he summoned a flask of nectar.
"It matters not who until your father, aunts, and uncles decide to tell the council. What I am is what you should be worried about." Theron said after drinking the whole flask and sat up, leaning against the throne of Zeus.
"What-"
"I am a Titan, young one," Theron said softly as he kept an eye on his father who was laughing madly as he slowed down time enough to dodge the Olympians' attacks. He once again concentrated on the hundreds, possible thousands of monsters still below and drew from their energy, greatly decreasing the amount of monsters and gaining strength in a few seconds. He used Zeus' throne to help him stand then inspected the large cut down his chest, ichor was still dropping onto the floor, but at a much slower pace. He opened his right hand and StormWraith flew into it, he then shrugged the celestial bronze shield off his left shoulder and turned back to the fight in time to see Zeus blast Kronos with his master bolt. When the smoke and dust cleared Kronos was still standing, Luke's sandy blonde hair was blackened and smoking, making him look like a mad scientist. Kronos was glowing so brightly now and he began to take his true form. Theron sighed before doing the same, he looked at the hearth momentarily and saw the flames were low. Percy sat in them and watched with an open mouth as Kronos fought all of the Olympians. There was a loud smash and Theron realised that Kronos had backhanded Zeus into a marble pillar. He smiled slightly happy about that and strode forward as he rose to a height of twenty-one feet, letting his true form out and a wave of power washed over the room as Kronos rose to twenty-five feet. The Olympians rose to various heights of sixteen to twenty feet. Theron pushed past Apollo and joined his brothers. Kronos scowled down at him and froze the Olympians in their spots. Theron grinned and twirled his trident around as he waited.
"You are foolish, son," Kronos growled. "If you keep this up any longer I won't hesitate to kill you."
"I should thank you, father," Theron said.
"Why is that?" Kronos glowered.
"You obviously don't hate me as much as you say. Otherwise you would have killed me by now and wouldn't be talking." Theron grinned and quickly ducked when a blast of golden energy flew at his head. Kronos charged at him and Theron snapped his trident, turning it into his warglaives. He blocked Kronos' strike and slashed at his chest rapidly before he had time to recover. Kronos tumbled and Theron punched him in the chest sending him flying. The younger Titan knew Kronos had much more skill with a weapon than him, but he had more raw power than his father and used it as an advantage by sending a fireball after his father. Hermes ran to the body of his son and dragged him out of the way before he could be stepped on. Kronos landed across the room and Theron advanced over to him as the Olympians tried to break out of the time spell, Poseidon did so first and took to his divine form.
"Father, stop. Lay down your weapon and surrender," Theron said sharply as Kronos stood up.
"No! I will have my revenge!" He yelled, his golden armour was sooty and blackened from the electric shocks he has received. Theron shook his head and attached the warglaives together, forming StormWraith. Most of the Olympians had managed to get out of the time spell now and all were waiting for Kronos to make a move. Zeus was standing with them and he looked murderously at his father. Theron grinned and held his hybrid weapon in his right hand, the celestial bronze shield in his left and advanced towards Kronos who stood waiting for him. Kronos attacked trying a horizontal cut across Theron's abdomen, but Theron blocked it with his shield and retaliated with a sweep at Kronos' legs. The elder Titan flicked his wrist and parried away StormWraith then closed the distance between them and shoulder barged Theron before he could bring his shield up. Kronos turned and blocked a sword, glaring daggers at Ares as they struggled to gain the upper hand. Kronos had the advantage of height and easily forced the god back, pushed his grandson back and wildly slashed across his chest plate. The god reeled back and Kronos followed, raising his sword to finish Ares off when he stumbled from a blow that hit him and turned. Poseidon quickly ducked as Backbiter flew over his head and stabbed his father in the leg with his trident. Kronos growled and slashed Poseidon's arm, drawing ichor. Poseidon grunted in pain and backed away towards the thrones. Apollo and Artemis provided support with their bows, but were doing little other than annoying and angering Kronos as arrows embedded in the small gaps which his armour didn't cover. Aphrodite tried to confuse him by shouting square dancing commands, but Kronos shrugged off the charm-speak. Zeus was taking pot-shots with his master bolt and occasionally hitting the walls of the hall. Athena managed to strike the side of Kronos with her spear and tore through the buckle of the armour, making a larger target for the other Olympians. Hera was wielding her staff in the form of a sword as she tried to wound her father. Hermes had changed his caduceus to laser mode and was firing them at Kronos whilst moving as fast as the Titan King, even though he was using his power over time to speed himself up.
A black blur raced past the Olympians and barrelled into Kronos, knocking him over. Theron in the form of a DireWolf tried to tear out his father's throat whilst Kronos struggled to stop him with one hand. Kronos blasted his son with divine energy, sending him flying up in the air and landing with an audible thud. Zeus fired his master bolt as Kronos struggled to stand back up and caught him in the chest. Kronos flew back and smashed into the wall, cracking it and he fell to one knee, breathing heavily as the Olympians converged. He stabbed Backbiter into the ground and yelled. A wall of force blasted all of the gods and goddesses away from him as he struggled to his feet. Kronos knew that Theron was going to be grounded for centuries once they went back to Tartarus. The Olympians slowly rose to their feet as they reverted from their divine forms. They were worn out after fighting Typhoon for days and now possibly the strongest Titan. Theron was on his feet again and facing Kronos, he did the same as his father had and released some of the last of his power in a wall of force, sending Kronos smashing into the wall again. Theron slowly shrank as he could no longer hold his divine form and Kronos did the same.
Kronos glared at Theron fiercely and Theron winced at his look in his father's eyes. He knew he would be in deep trouble. The Olympians had been sent flying by Theron's wall of force and the younger Titan didn't want to admit that he took pleasure in seeing his youngest brother being brought down a peg by being blasted across his own throne room. Theron grasped StormWraith until his knuckles whitened. His shield held loosely in his left hand as he settled into a stance and waited for Kronos to attack. He wasn't disappointed. Kronos ran and grasped Backbiter in two hands, bringing down the sword in a massive strike that made Theron's arm shake as he blocked it. His shield cracked down the middle under the strength of the attack and Theron shook it off his arm in a short reprieve. Kronos once again wielded Backbiter with one hand as Theron grasped StormWraith with two. Several of the Olympians wanted to fight, but Zeus and Poseidon stopped them knowing that Theron was the most able to beat the Titan King.
Theron parried away Kronos' strike with a shower of sparks and tried to swing the spike of StormWraith up to catch his father unawares, but Kronos knew how Theron fought and was expecting it. He sidestepped the spike and swung Backbiter up, but Theron pushed away the flat of the blade with his left hand, lowering his weapon slightly to concentrate on not having his head cut off by Backbiter. Kronos quickly saw the small opening and kicked Theron in the chest, sending his son skidding across the floor and StormWraith clattering from his hands. Once again Theron was on the floor of the hall of the gods, the hearth blazed beside him and Percy was glaring at the Titan King, not that Kronos noticed.
Theron began to think desperately as Kronos approached, his eyes glowing gold as he froze the Olympians with difficulty. Theron had thought his father would be easier to defeat than this. Even with the Olympian council fighting him together he was still fighting after more than thirty minutes. Theron's mind raced as he tried to think of a way to kill Kronos. He stretched out his right hand and tried to force his trident back to him, but StormWraith stubbornly stayed where it was. He could try to use his powers, but knew if he couldn't summon his symbol of power to him his powers would be abysmal at best. He rapidly thought about anything that could help him, and then remembered one thing two years ago. In the junkyard of the gods he had picked up a ring, he still had it and had never to find out what it did. He began to think about how he could get to the ring, he wore a gauntlet covering his left hand and would have to get the piece of armour off. He tore it off and threw it straight at Kronos. Normally Kronos would easily be able to move out of the way of a gauntlet flying towards him, but he was so surprised to see a gauntlet heading towards him that he didn't move in time and received an ichor covered gauntlet to the face. Theron snickered at the astonished look on the Titan Lords face, until it quickly turned to rage and he gulped in fear. He barely ever saw Kronos as angry as he looked now, and usually an entire century of monsters was killed when his father was that mad. And Theron was his target. Kronos moved in a blur and the younger Titan rotated the ring on his finger, holding his left hand out in front of him.
Theron could sense everything, from Poseidon's cry, to Kronos' face twisted in rage, even his own heavy breathing. Then there was a loud clang of metal hitting metal as a shield appeared in Theron's hand. He quickly angled it and Kronos' blade was deflected into the floor, a look of bewilderment on the Titan's face as Theron rolled to his feet. Kronos growled in annoyance at his son's refusal to stay still and took a step towards him, only to jump back when a bolt of lightning shot by in front of him. The Olympians charged as one, working together as one unit to take down one of their most ancient foes. They timed their attacks to give Kronos a smaller chance of blocking or dodging. Theron worked with his brothers, shield-bashing Kronos and giving Poseidon an opportunity (which he gladly accepted) to stab the Titan Lord. Theron frowned slightly when he saw ichor seep from the three punctures in his father's stomach, but didn't say anything as he knew it was necessary. Kronos glowered at the sea god and attacked him, unleashing a flurry of attacks which Poseidon struggled to block. Kronos quickly gained the upper hand even though he had to block several attack attempts from the other Olympians and cut at his second youngest son's chest. Poseidon fell back with a cry of pain and Kronos raised Backbiter to deliver the final blow.
Theron acted quickly and took one longing glance at StormWraith which lay on the other side of the room, before he ran at Kronos with nothing more than a shield. The Titan Lord turned, Theron saw his smirk and had enough time to think, oh crap. Kronos knocked his shield out of the way with a flick of Backbiter whilst he reached out to grab Theron's throat with his left hand. The younger Titan found himself mercilessly smashed into the ground and the shield clattered out of his grip. Kronos pulled Theron up and wrapped his left arm around his neck, placing the tip of Backbiter under his chin in a small chink between the chest plate and drakon helmet that his armour didn't cover.
"Stop!" Kronos roared looking straight at the elder gods. It took a few seconds and Kronos to dig Backbiter in a little for the Olympians to stop, ichor trickled down Theron's neck.
"Surrender and drop your weapons, or I kill him," Kronos said smoothly.
"You wouldn't," Zeus said confidently. "He's your only child that stayed by you."
"Try me," Kronos snarled. Zeus raised his master bolt and was about to fire it when Poseidon stopped his younger brother.
"Are you mad?" The god of the sea asked. "You know father, he wouldn't let anything get in his way. Not even his eldest son."
"Surrender," Kronos repeated, Poseidon hesitated before dropping his trident. A few seconds passed then Hera dropped her sword. Several of the younger Olympians dropped their weapons when they saw two of the elder gods do it too. Apollo dropped his bow, Hermes his caduceus, Artemis her bow, and Aphrodite dropped her dagger.
Theron knew he had to do something quickly otherwise all of the Olympians would surrender. He had nothing he could reach and Kronos was nearly stopping him from breathing. His eyes landed on the quiver of arrows beside Apollo's bow and an idea formed in his mind.
"Last chance," Kronos growled and tightened his grip, cutting off Theron's air. The younger Titan tried to claw at Kronos' hands, but it did nothing. "Stop," Kronos hissed in his ear. Zeus was being his usual stubborn self and refusing to drop his weapon along with Ares and Athena who were the immortals of war, surrendering wasn't in their vocabularies. Zeus shoved Poseidon out of the way and fired his master bolt. Theron's eyes widened and Kronos positioned himself so the bolt would hit his son. Theron knew what Kronos intended him to do. He could let the master bolt hit him and by extension Kronos or he could stop the bolt in its tracks, saving himself and his father. Theron released his grip on Kronos' arm, momentarily being choked before he raised his hands in front of him and concentrated. Thousands of volts coursed through his body, but it didn't hurt. It felt pleasant and comforting, giving him a burst of energy and Theron straightened up as Kronos tightened his grip even more, starting to crush his windpipe. Kronos moved Backbiter, making a small cut and Theron felt the sword draining his energy rapidly. He knew if he didn't act soon, he wouldn't be able to do anything. So he moved his right foot behind Kronos and elbowed the Titan Lord, causing him to loosen his grip slightly, enough for Theron to get in a valuable gulp of air. The younger Titan threw himself backwards, keeping his head up and knocked Kronos over. Theron held his hand out to the right, controlling the wind to make an arrow discarded on the floor fly into it as he put a knee on his father's chest and stopped him from getting up. The arrow flew into his hand and with only slight hesitation he stabbed the Titan King in the heart, the silver fletching of the arrow shone from the light of the hearth.
Theron forgot one important fact. Kronos was still holding Backbiter and as Theron turned to stab him, thrust the weapon into his chest and out the other side. "I'll see you in Tartarus, son." Kronos growled as Theron looked at the sword.
"I'm going to be grounded, aren't I?"
"For millennia," Kronos said harshly. Theron nodded and took the arrow out of the Titan, ichor rapidly flowed onto the white marble floor and Theron stood up, turning away from the body to look at the Olympians who were staring at him in fear whilst his three siblings surprisingly looked happy that he wasn't dead.
Who was expecting that? I hope i have made this chapter satisfactory for you, i enjoy making fight scenes. Even though they may not be that good...
Theron will be paired up with Styx.
I have 2 chapters left.
Should i go straight into HOO or do a story (prequel) about Theron being born up to the end of the Titanomachy? I need to know by the end of this story so i can start writing immediately.
I have started my Percy Jackson Teen Wolf xover so if you could just take a look at it if you are interested in that.
