Intrusion
"This is impossible, I can't find anything," moaned Jeremy.
"Same here," said Aelita.
"I just don't understand it."
"Tyron disappeared in 2003 if that helps," offered Harry as he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.
"I know that. There's no data about him after June the 25th, 2003. It's like he just disappeared."
"Or erased the data about himself," offered Harry.
"How is that possible?" asked Aelita. "A guy like Tyron, who worked with my father for years, there must be some traces."
"Staying off the grid, using prepaid mobiles, not staying in one place for too long and he's smart. He could easily program a virus to erase himself," said Harry.
"But why that date?" asked Aelita. "June the 25th, 2003."
"Maybe that was the day he argued with your father?" suggested Jeremy. Harry shook his head.
"Franz would have been in the supercomputer by that point. The date Tyron disappeared was a few months before you found the supercomputer, remember?"
"We do need to find his lab if we want to destroy his supercomputer," said Jeremy. "Harry, do you have any idea where it is."
"On a cliff near the sea. That narrows it down from the whole world though there must be hundreds of places. We can rule out Dover too. The cliffs weren't white."
"Jeremy, I'm getting tired and it's almost midnight," admitted Aelita.
"Ok, enough for tonight then. I really do not want to think about Tyron all night long anyway. But tomorrow, we'll need to go back to the Cortex."
The morning
"Don't forget: the operation 'Earth Hour' is next Saturday at 8," reminded Yumi as she handed out leaflets.
"We're counting on you: for one hour in the dark for the planet," added the helper. "By the way, I forgot to tell you. Your essay was awesome. You're really talented. Don't forget, next Saturday. By the way, didn't you say that Ulrich would help us?"
"That's right. He was supposed to."
"Great. You can trust your buddy."
"Yeah. Sure."
Courtyard
"Last night, I worked on a small program," started Jeremy. "It's a new sneaking program that you need to inject into the Cortex's interface.
"Eighteen. That's the grade she got for her essay. The teacher even read it in front of the class," said William as he and Yumi walked over.
"Eighteen? I thought grades in French class never went above eleven?" asked Odd. "I really need to take a look at this masterpiece."
"Well, it was nothing exceptional," said Yumi modestly. "It was just an essay."
"Nothing exceptional? Let's find out!" Odd snatched the paper.
"Odd! Odd, I'm warning you, if you do this…"
"So… 'Mia couldn't believe her eyes. Eric, her long-time friend, her soul mate, who was so deep and serious, suddenly revealed another face. An immature, stubborn being who above all, doesn't pay close attention to the others.'" Yumi snatched the paper back.
"You idiot."
"What? I was just reading your essay. That's a pity. I wish I knew the end of the story."
Ulrich frowned.
"It's kinda interesting," said William as Yumi put it away. "Because of his foolish behaviour, the guy ends up breaking their relationship."
"Not cool."
"Sorry to interrupt but we have a mission to do," said Jeremy.
"You're too serious. Ok, let's get going."
Sissi glanced at Ulrich.
"Ulrich, Yumi wasn't talking about your relationship," said Luna.
Sewers
"Hey." Ulrich grabbed Yumi's shoulder and she turned. "The guy in your story. That was me, right? Immature, stubborn, doesn't pay close attention to the others. Is that how you see me now?"
"You're imagining things. It's just an essay, that's all."
"Yeah, sure. Don't take me for a fool. And it was read in front of everyone."
"Look Ulrich, we can discuss this later but we've got to go to the lab for now."
"I'm not coming."
"What?!"
"I'm not coming. I need to stay least I've always been honest with you Yumi. I think we should stop seeing each other. It will be better like that."
Yumi sadly watched him go before going after the others.
Lab
"So everyone knows about the mission?" asked Jeremy.
"Yeah Jeremy, you've told us a thousand times already," said William in annoyance. "Aelita will inject the lure into the interface which will raise the alarm."
"Then all the Ninja will turn up and we'll take care of them," continued Aelita.
"And meanwhile Aelita will insert the sneaking program," finished Odd. "Ok?"
"Very good. You would have gotten the perfect grade if you hadn't been insolent."
"Ulrich isn't with you?" asked Aelita as Yumi entered.
"No, he wouldn't come."
"What?" asked a surprised Odd.
"Has he thrown a tantrum?" asked Harry. "Don't worry. He'll come around. In a few days."
"What's going on?" asked Jeremy.
"I'd rather not talk about it. Shall we go?"
William shrugged.
Lyoko
"So, Yumi, What's the problem?" asked Odd.
"Did he get all upset about what you put in your essay?" asked Sissi.
"Ask your pal."
"Did I miss anything?" asked William as he appeared next to Odd.
"No, nothing. I guess we'll have a lot of fun today. And it looks like Yumi's free."
William shot a look at him as Harry made a face.
"It's just a quarrel Odd."
Kadic
Ulrich lay on his bed as he heard his phone buzz. Picking it up, he glanced at the screen before putting it back down.
Lab
"This is Ulrich's voicemail. Please leave a message after the beep."
"Ulrich, this is Jeremy. What's going on? Please call me back."
Network
Everyone was silent as they approached and entered the cortex before quickly transferring to the Megapod.
"If you need to talk, I'm here, ok?" asked Aelita.
"Yeah, you can talk to any of us," added Sissi.
"Ulrich didn't come and Yumi pulls a face," muttered Odd. "Jeremy, for the next mission, please add a party or something."
"Uh, what kind of party?" asked Harry as he stared at Odd. "If you mean monsters, then no."
"Yumi, you need to settle things down with Ulrich," said Odd as they started towards the dome. "This has consequences on the whole group and it's not good."
"Thanks a lot for your support Odd." Yumi moved away in anger.
"What did I say?"
"Girls are weird at times," said Harry as he followed Yumi. Aelita reached the door and unlocked it.
"Really impressive," said William. "Will you teach me one day?"
"I don't think it can be taught," said Harry as they ran down the path and were teleported. "Would you be able to teach her how to use super smoke?"
"Don't know about you but seeing this place so quiet always gives me a strange feeling," commented Odd.
"It's always calm before the storm," pointed out William.
"Let's go," said Aelita as she grabbed the card and summoned her wings.
"Well, we have to go," said Luna. "If we want anything to get done."
They quickly reached the terminal and William summoned his sword.
"The reception committee for the ninjas is ready," commented Odd as he got ready to fire.
"Ok, I'll insert the fake key."
"Go ahead Aelita, inject the sneaking program," said Jeremy as the ninjas turned up.
"Got it Jeremy." Amelia inserted it.
"Great! It worked! The program hasn't been detected! You have to hold on until it finds the location."
William and a ninja clashed. The ninja kicked William only to be stabbed by Harry. Odd flicked over an attack before running through the legs of another ninja.
"Don't drop your guard Yumi," called William as Yumi narrowly dodged an attack.
"Focus Yumi! You're taking a lot of damage!" warned Jeremy as Yumi took several hits. Odd fired on a ninja.
"Yahoo! My first ninja!"
"Jeremy, devirtualise me!"
"What?" asked Jeremy as a ninja approached her.
"Devirtualise me!"
"No way, you have to protect Aelita!"
Yumi allowed the advancing ninja to hit her.
"What the hell Yumi? I can't believe you just did that!" Jeremy watched Yumi run out of the factory. "It can't be…"
Sissi narrowly dodged a hit before getting sliced. The offending ninja was hit by a boomerang and Luna caught it only to be stabbed from behind.
"Bring it on! I'm all revved up!" called William as they regrouped with the remaining ninjas advancing on them. Harry closed his eyes before opening them again. William leapt and sliced one. "Yeah, we can beat them!"
Odd rolled and fired on another. "Yeah, another one!"
Harry threw a shuriken and hit a third.
"Please go ahead pal." Odd leapt on William's back and used it as a spring board before firing on the ninja.
"Yeah! Job's done!"
The last ninja tried to hit William but he dispersed into smoke and reformed behind it, using the distraction as a chance to destroy it.
"We're definitely great!" He and Odd hi fived.
"Yes but that's strange. Usually they're stronger than that," said Jeremy as Sissi and Luna watched over his shoulder.
"He has a point," said Harry. "It was like they weren't trying."
"Hey, can't you at least give us some kudos?" asked William.
"That's right," agreed Odd. "They're not weaker, we're stronger. That's all."
The room started to shake.
"Jeremy, the walls started to move," called Aelita. "Did your program find anything? It's getting urgent."
"Alright, it found the location. You can come back."
Aelita retrieved the card. "Let's go."
They jumped out the room, dodging the spikes. A ninja appeared behind them and shimmered before following.
"Jeremy, any news about what happened with Yumi?" asked Aelita.
"No. she left immediately after getting out of the scanner."
"She's acting kinda strange today," commented Odd.
"Wait, are you kidding me?" asked William. "Ulrich was the one who let us down."
Kadic
"Hey, have you seen Ulrich?" asked Yumi.
"Ulrich Stern?"
"Yes."
"I think he's in his room."
"Ok, thank you."
Cortex
The ninja continued to follow the Megapod before losing its shimmer. It tried to reactivate it but failed.
"Wait, there's something strange going on guys. Mind going back and checking it out?"
"Ok Jeremy," agreed Odd. "Give us the coordinates and we'll take a look."
"Seventy seven degrees south."
"Here we go!"
The ninja snuck into the ground as the Megapod approached. The lines of code on the monitor froze.
"What?"
"Jeremy, are you sure?" asked Odd. "I can't see anything on my scanner."
"Maybe it disappeared?" suggested Harry. "Whatever it was."
"I don't get it. I lost the signal."
"Are you sure your computer is working? It might be time to buy another one," suggested Odd.
"And where are we going to get another supercomputer from?" asked Harry. "It's not like we can pick one up at the computer store."
"Very funny Odd. Really."
Kadic
Yumi banged on the door. "Ulrich, let me in. I know you're in there!"
No answer.
"Please, open the door. Do you want to know? Yes, it was you in the story. You wanted me to tell you, I did. Are you happy now? Come on Ulrich, please let me in."
She hit the door again and walked away. Ulrich opened it and watched her.
Cortex
The ninja clung to the Megapod as it reached the Skid.
"I'll start the transfer."
Aelita activated the engine as the Ninja clung to the cockpit.
"It's time to get started on the serious matter. Finally I'll find out where you are Tyron." Jeremy started to work on the data. "Ok, it's encrypted. Does he really think that his encryption is going to stop me? I can crack any code! And if I can't, Harry can just get into it! Here we go!"
"Jeremy can you devirtualise me?" asked Odd.
"Odd, you're not funny," warned Aelita.
"What? If I get devirtualised now, I'll be back sooner and I won't miss my favourite show. Don't I also have the right to act in my own interest? And if we all act like Yumi, then soon we'll no longer be a group."
"I fully agree," added William.
"Well, that sounds like you Odd," said Harry as he zoomed around the Skid. "Hang on. There's a ninja on the back of the Skid."
"You're kidding, right?" asked Sissi.
"They don't have any protection against the digital sea," added Jeremy. "As far as we're aware."
"Uh, no, I'm not. As for the protection, well, there are ways. Some has been protected against it before, remember?"
"Yes but that was Xana. Besides, there's no signal."
"There are ways of hiding your signal too. Anyway, I can't do anything at the moment. It's protected by the Skid's shields."
Kadic
Ulrich ran to catch up with Yumi. He touched her, causing Yumi to turn round.
"So this is how you see me?"
"You're incredible. After all the positive things I wrote about you, your depth, your sensitivity, you only noticed the negative ones."
"Great, you added negative to your list."
"You really should grow up a bit Ulrich."
"Wait, after all you did to me today, I don't even understand how I can keep talking to you!"
"I told you the truth which is never easy to hear but it's the truth. And I'm the one who should be angry. I waited for you all morning for the flyers."
"Gosh, the flyers…"
"Yeah, the flyers! It's always like that, you're never there when I need you! Not to mention how touchy you are! All I did when I was on the Cortex was thinking about you. I even got devirtualised on purpose just so I could see you. I was so stupid."
She pushed past Ulrich who froze for a second.
"Wait!" He ran after her only to stumble. "You really should add clumsy to your list."
Yumi shook her head,
"I'm so sorry Yumi. I know I wasn't up to it. I should have been there for you with the flyers and I should have been there for many things. You're right. I feel so ashamed. I really don't want to lose you. You're the person that matters the most to me and I promise to make a better effort."
"You're also the person that matters most to me," admitted Yumi.
Lab
The last number slotted into place.
"Yeah! June 25th, 2003. That's the day Tyron disappeared. Obviously he didn't make any effort. You never choose a date Tyron, that's the very basics of encryption!" He unlocked it only to find a clown's face. "What the heck is that?"
"It's a clown," said Luna matter of factly. "Someone just played a prank on us."
Lyoko
They docked.
"Jeremy, we just arrived. Can you transfer us?" asked Aelita.
"Uh, yes. Sure."
"Jeremy, is everything alright?"
"I just have a problem with the encrypted data but I'll transfer you right now."
He did just that as the Ninja watched. It peeked out only to have Odd shoot at it. It jumped down as they separated and devirtualised Aelita.
"Oh no, it can't be," moaned William. Harry aimed at it and fired only to have it dodge.
"It's faster than usual."
"Probably a way in order to try and deal with us," suggested Odd before trying tio hit it. "Be ready to follow your friends!"
He followed the ninja before getting kicked and devirtualising.
"We've been tricked," said Jeremy as he pulled out his phone. "That's why they were so easy to beat in the Cortex. Come on, pick up, please!"
"Yes Jeremy, I'm sorry…"
"You can tell me later," interrupted Jeremy. "We have an emergency. A ninja entered sector five."
"A ninja?"
"You've got to come as soon as possible!"
"Alright, I'm coming."
The ninja leapt at William who blocked the blade but got knocked down. The ninja tried to hit him but William turned to smoke and reformed a distance away.
"William, you need to hold on. Reinforcements are coming in the form of Ulrich.
"Don't forget about me," said Harry as he stood next to William and aimed at the ninja. "These things are disgraces to ninja!"
William leapt at the ninja and got his blade stuck. He used super smoke again and rushed the ninja only to get knocked off. He grabbed the edge. Harry knocked the ninja over and helped pull William up. The ninja headed towards the elevator.
"You have to prevent him from accessing the core of Lyoko. He can't access our data," warned Jeremy. The tow leapt off and landed behind the ninja.
"You won't get rid of us that easily." William and the ninja clashed. "I don't know if anyone ever told you this but you have a really bad mug."
Harry slipped behind the ninja and stabbed it as Ulrich ran up. "Where's the ninja?"
"It's gone," said Harry. "Jeremy, I think we can come back now."
None of them noticed the blinking device underneath the path.
"There's something I don't get," said Yumi. "Why couldn't your scan detect him?"
"He probably had some kind of force field that hid him. But I guess some electromagnetic interference is what uncovered him.
"I don't know what," said Harry as the trio walked in. "But I thought I saw him holding something. But it could have been a trick of the light."
"I'm glad to have the while team back together again," said Jeremy.
"Totally agree," added Aelita.
"You're not going to have another tantrum, right?" asked Harry.
"I'm not psychic Harry. I don't know."
"We'll need to be much more careful when dealing with Tyron," said Jeremy. "He almost located us."
"And then we'll be in for a whole world of trouble," added Sissi.
"We could always put a fidelius charm over this," suggested Luna. "That way we could hide the lab."
"I don't really think that's practical Luna. But good idea anyway."
"Well, we did come very close to a disaster," said Odd. "But next time I guess he'll think twice before attacking the dream team."
Lyoko
The device continued to blink as a light circled it.
