Jeremy frantically tapped on his keyboard. Lines of code scrolled across the screen and He picked up his phone.
"Aelita? This is Jeremy. Give everyone a message to meet in my room, I have something to announce."
Harry's and Jeremy's Dorm
William closed the door behind him.
"That's it, we're all here. So what?" asked Aelita
Jeremy got up, with a smile. "I found a way to hack the video surveillance system of Tyron's lab."
Everyone was enthusiastic.
"Seriously?" asked Ulrich.
"Yeah!" cheered Odd
"We get to spy on him," said an eager William.
"Is this what you really like? Spying?" asked Harry.
"And anticipate what he will do!" continued Yumi.
"And you think ... for my mother ... I could see her again?" asked Aelita.
Silence. Jeremy met Aelita's eyes.

They made their way to the interface where Aelita, surrounded by the other Lyoko warrior, inserts the card. Some lights come on.
"Interface connected via the new procedure," said Aelita.
"How long are we starting here?" asked Sissi.
"Hopefully it will work, because today, I don't know why, but I don't want to beat up a ninja ..." said Odd.
Jeremy tapped on his keyboard. "I'm running my program. It's the moment of truth."
The screen lit up, showing windows, files, codes ... Then the lab appeared.
"The screen is on Jeremy," called Yumi.
Tyron entered his lab and jumped on the console. "Alert. Intruders in the core room. Immediate virtualisation."
"Jeremy, we have a visual of Tyron," called Aelita as Harry pulled out a shuriken. "I think he's calling his ninjas!"
"Yes, I can confirm that." Odd looked at a ninja. Harry threw his shuriken and the ninja blocked it only for the shuriken to curve round and hit it.
"What? No, that's not possible. Everything's working on my end."
"Well, on our end, everything isn't working," said Ulrich as more ninjas appeared.
"Why? But why?"
"Tyron set up an detection system then," said Harry as he pulled out a sword. Everyone charged the ninjas. Odd kicked one of the edge as Sissi fired at another. The ninja deflected her shots and started her. Three more faced Ulrich and Aelita as a group surrounded Harry.
"Tyron noticed our presence because of a new system he installed," explained Jeremy after a second. "But he doesn't know that we're hacking his video feed yet. I repeat, he doesn't know that we're hacking his video feed. If I retrieve the signal, we'll have succeeded. Hold on."
"Do it quickly Jeremy," called Aelita as she threw an energy field and missed. She threw another one and destroyed the ninja. Harry goaded two into attacking and jumped out of the way, causing them to destroy each other.
"One more minute. A whole little minute and I'll be fine."
"I don't know about you but these ninjas are getting annoying!" exclaimed Harry as more faced him. He zoomed around and blew them up. Odd dodged a spike before destroying a ninja as it sliced him. Yumi used her Bo staff to block attacks before being devirtualised with Luna following not long after.
"Forty seconds!"
Harry joined Ulrich and Aelita before destroying the ninjas there. More appeared.
"Thirty seconds!"
One kicked Ulrich in the face while he was distracted and Aelita hit another approaching the interface. Ulrich got devirtualised. Aelita created a bright light and when it faded, the two had disappeared.
"Ten seconds!" The ninjas disappeared as one approached the interface. "Just a few more seconds."
The ninja removed the card with one second to spare.
"No. No!"
"What?" asked Odd.
"It's been disconnected."
Harry and Aelita watched through a gap in the platform.
"You can come back." Tyron walked out of the lab.
"The screen is still connected," said Aelita.
"I know but the signal isn't reaching us here. I'm really sorry guys but we failed. I'm bringing you back."
"No!"
"What do you mean, no?"
"What if I stay here in the core to keep an eye on the screen?" asked Aelita.
"Isn't that dangerous?" asked Sissi.
"What if the ninjas come back?" asked Harry.
"You see what happened. Jeremy, you said Tyron hadn't noticed that we hacked his video. And he thinks we were all devirtualised. We're alone."
"But it could take days before your mother appears and that's if she appears," pointed out Jeremy.
"Aelita, that's crazy. Come back," said Yumi. "We'll start over and be better prepared later."
"They're safe enough as they are," said Luna.
"We always say that Yumi," said Aelita. "But today, our presence was detected by a new security system. What will it be next time? I want to stay. Seize the opportunity. And I don't care if I have to wait for days."

The group watched the scanner. Harry yawned as Jeremy typed. Aelita stepped out the scanner.
"So, uh, this come has a few mistakes. The most important one being that it doesn't speak."
"Huh? Are you kidding?" asked a surprised Odd.
"This is going to be horrible," muttered Ulrich.
"How will we do it?" asked Yumi.
"It takes at least two days to create a clone, even for Harry. This one was made in two hours," pointed out Jeremy. "It's not bad that it resembles Aelita. It could have tentacles on its head!"
"Whoa, ok, don't get annoyed," said Odd. "We'll cope with it."
"We'll have to deal with everyone," says Sissi. "The cone can't talk to anyone."
"We'll say that Aelita just lost her voice," said Harry. "So she can't speak."
Sewer
"Come on, faster," urged Odd. "I don't want to be late to the cafeteria or there won't be any desserts left."
"Hey, can down. Do you even hear how you're talking to her?" asked Ulrich.
"So? It's just a digital clone."
The clone started to walk backwards.

The clone started at the table.
"I have a feeling it's going to be a long day," said Ulrich.

Cortex
Aelita rolled over and looked at the screen. "Mom, if only you knew how happy I am to know that you're alive."
She watched as Tyron checked the computer before walking off.
Kadic
Jeremy sat down and pulled out his phone. "Hello? It's me. How's it going?"
"It's ok, it's just that..."
"What? What's wrong?"
"It's weird, I have like... You're going to laugh... I have like cramps."
"Don't worry, that's normal. It's like a computer screen that stays on all night, it's created a persistence. You need a screen saver."
They laughed.
"How's Aelita doing?" Harry sat down next to Jeremy.
"She's fine."
"Well, if that makes you laugh then it's fine. Anyway, I didn't expect to get cramps in a virtual world!"
"And otherwise? Anything happening?"

Odd groaned.
Cortex
Anetha walked in and sat at a computer.
"Mom!" Aelita crawled out of her hiding place. "Mom! It's me, Aelita!"
"Aelita?" She walked over and looked at the screen. "Aelita! Oh, my darling."
"Mom!"
"Listen my dear... we can never see each other again. You have to understand."
"What?"
"I don't want to see you anymore. Am I clear? I don't want to see you!"
Aelita jolted awake before looking at the empty lab. "A nightmare."
Kadic
Laura walked over to the clone and say down.
"Hi Aelita. So, is Odd doing better?"
The clone remained silent.
"I was wondering what you were doing this morning. You went to the lab, right?"
No answer.
"Yeah, that's it, go on and snub me. Go on, yeah, it's super funny. Don't say anything at all. This is pathetic."
She stalked off as William and Jeremy walked over.
"It was your turn to watch it. We can never leave it all alone! We arranged it!'"
"Yeah, ok, it's fine. I'll watch the zombie."
"And at least pretend to talk to it!"
William sighed and sat down as Jeremy left. "Hello. Are you having fun?"
He sighed at the lack of response and the clone looked at him. Harry potter and say down opposite William.
"Finally! Someone who knows how to talk!"
Cortex
Spikes shot out and Aelita gripped a support. One hit the main platform and Aelita caught the edge. Tyron entered the lab and walked over to the computer.
"The scanner reacted as if there was an intruder. Go take a look-see."
The ninja looked around as Aelita tried to hide as much as she could.
"Ok, come back. It must have been an error."
The ninja and Tyron left and Aelita released a sigh of relief.
"Aelita?"
"Yes Jeremy, it's good to talk to you."
"Still nothing?"
"No."
"On our end, we've run into several dramas already. You have to come back now. It's gym class and we said..." Jeremy paced as he spoke.
"I know Jeremy but please Jeremy, after class, the day is over. That would leave me the whole night to watch."
"I knew you'd say that."
"I'm sorry. I know I'm asking a lot."
"We'll try. I'll keep you up to date."
"We'll just have to hope Jim doesn't focus on her," said Ulrich as Jeremy ended the call.
"Fat chance of that happening," said Harry. "We'll have to distract him."

"That's it, we're dead," said Ulrich as Jim pulled the clone inside. "I'm outta here."
Ulrich walked away and Jeremy followed.
"Hey, where are you going?" asked Odd. "The rats are abandoning ship!"
Harry sighed as he and Odd entered the gym.
"Come on Stones! We're watching you!" Odd covered his eyes as the clone did a perfect hand stand. "Not bad. Not bad at all."
The clone took a hand off the ground.
"Wow." The clone collapsed. "Stones! Aelita, Aelita, wake up!"
Jim shook her.
"Uh, it's a virus sir. I had the came thing this morning," said Odd as he stood up. "I have to take her to the infirmary."
Harry went and helped him.
"Alright, take her, just take her, just go! Go on. Be careful! Good! Your turn!"
Outside
"Jeremy, we have to get rid of the Aelita copy."
Jeremy ran to the lab as Harry, Odd and Ulrich guided the clone into the woods.
"Yes Jeremy, were good. Nobody can see us," said Ulrich into the phone. "You can devirtualise her."
"On, be careful. Here we go."
The clone disappeared in a burst of light.
"Well, that's done," said Harry. "Now what?"
Lab
"It wasn't possible any more. We had to get rid of your clone," explained Jeremy. "Another event like that and you would have been kicked out of school or sent to the psychologist."
"Words can't describe the crazy reputation you're already going to have," added Odd.
"It's ok. I understand but thank you for holding on so long."
"We are never doing something like that again," said Harry.
"Ok, you have all night as planned but tomorrow you need to be there for our first class, ok?"
"Yes, I promise Jeremy."
That night
Jeremy tossed in his sleep before waking up and putting his glasses on before picking up his phone.
"Aelita? Aelita!"
The girl woke up. "Jeremy? You're not asleep?"
"I can't. I wanted to know... you've been separated from your mother for a long time... I'm guessing you've never stopped thinking about her..."
Harry jerked up and put his glasses on. "Jeremy? Are you talking to Aelita?"
"Yes, of course. In fact, sometimes, I want to do things... I don't know what but I know that she's the one I want to do them with. It's weird, huh?"
"No, I think I understand. I really hope that you'll be able to talk to her. And that you won't be mad at me of you aren't able to."

"I really hope that this will work Aelita. Call me if there's anything. I've put a super loud ringtone on. It will wake me up if something happens. Good luck."

"I never knew my parents." Jeremy glanced at Harry. "My birth parents. They died a long time ago. The only thing I remember was the day they died. Even then, the memory is foggy. The closest I can get is a collection of memories that will disappear forever the next time I see it."
Jeremy reached out and squeezed his shoulder. "You've got us Harry. We're your family as much as your parents were."
They went back to sleep only to be woken up a few hours later by the phone.
"Jeremy, come quickly. My mother is there. I see her. She's there in Tyron's lab."
"We're coming."
They shot out of bed to the lab.
"I'm connected, we're good." Aelita climbed up and walked forward. "Is your mother still there?"
"Yes Jeremy, she's there."
"Ok, I'm ready to connect the sound. You remember the moment I connect the sound, our spying will be revealed to Tyron. So say just what's essential."
"Go on Jeremy, go on!"
"Sound connected."
"Mom! Mom, it's me, Aelita! I'm alive! You hear me? I'm alive!"
"But... What's going on? Who's talking to me?"
"It's me, Aelita! Listen to my voice, do you remember my voice?"
"Aelita? But that's not possible, an I dreaming?"
Tyron entered the room.
"Who are you talking to?"
"Mom, I beg you, listen to my voice! I'm your daughter Aelita! I'm alive! I love you mom. Mom!"
"But my daughter's dead. Who are you? What's going on?"
"Mom, please, I survived thanks to daddy. He took me to Lyoko. Mom, I love you. Harry my voice Mom!"
"Lyoko? Franz? Aelita?"
The screen disappeared and Aelita out her head in her hands as a ninja appeared behind her. She allowed it to devirtualise her.
"Mom..."
Park
The three walked down the path where the others were waiting. Yumi hugged Aelita.
"Jeremy told us everything."
"Yes... I don't know if my mother understood. Tyron cut the conversation off."
"She understood," reassured Jeremy. "She was in shook but she understood. Your mother knows you're alive. You did it."
"Yeah, and all we have to do is find her," said Harry.
Aelita smiled and they walked back to school.
