CHAPTER 50 – WHAT IS HAPPINESS?
"They are moving again!" Archie says excited.
"They are always moving, Archie." She sighs.
Regina is lying with Archie by her side, they are both with their hands playing and resting anxiously on her belly.
"Again!" He almost screamed in joy. "Did you feel that?"
She fought against the urge to laugh at him and roll her eyes over the dumbest question in the world. It was obvious that she could feel it, it was comforting, funny and surely painful.
Then, the silence engulfed the room and after a few minutes, Regina was the first one to be out of her trance and looked at Archie, who was distractedly tracing circles on her belly and lost in thoughts. A green immensity definitely staring at the skin beneath his fingers.
"What are you thinking about?" She whispered, momentarily losing herself in these eyes she loved so much.
A few seconds later the answer came. "I was wondering how it would be… to hold your child for the first time… I keep wondering how will it be… if they are going to recognize me or recognize my voice."
"They already do, Archie." Regina says with a silly smile on her face. "They know their daddy."
"Yeah… I think they do." He said with a great deal of pride gracing his features.
"I can still remember exactly what it was like to hold Henry for the first time." She started speaking, already lost in thoughts. Her eyes were no longer focused on his, but on her own swollen belly. "I remember his little hands, his eyes struggling to stay open," She said with another silly smile. "But he wasn't used to me or my voice… he didn't know who I was and it took a while for that to happen, but when he did… when his eyes recognized me and when he recognized my voice… it's incredible.
She was totally lost in thoughts and Archie realized that. He could still be surprised by the amount of love that her eyes could express. He didn't interrupt her, however, he stood there waiting for her to continue and she did right then.
"I can't wait to hold them. I need to know how it is. I need to see this connection I already feel with them. I keep wondering what it will be like to have them in my arms… I wonder if they will recognize my voice immediately, if they will stop crying when I talk… I don't know…I wonder so many things, but I just know that there is nothing I want more in this world than to touch them and smell their scent and feel the softness of their skin… I can't wait to see the color of their hair and the color of their eyes-"
"Brunettes." Archie whispered.
"What?" Regina asked suddenly, confusion spread across her face.
"They will be brunettes, just like you." He said with a smirk.
"But they could be redheads. Have you thought about that? Our girls with red hair? I bet they will have a lot of success." She winks at him.
"They are your daughters, regardless of anything, if they look like you, I'm gonna have a lot of troubles ahead. They will be stunning."
"I love you." Regina said suddenly, love shining in her eyes.
"I love you too, I love you too much." He approached her, capturing her lips in a gentle and promising kiss.
"Archie, where were you?" Emma asked frantically.
"I needed a little time." He answered and started walking toward the hospital hallway that led to both Regina's and the girls' bedroom.
Archie had left some hours ago. It was obvious that he was upset and that is why everyone was looking for him. They didn't find him, however, not even Ruby with her sensitive nose. What they didn't know was that Regina had shared a particular place with him. Her vault. She had showed him everything, it was a small gesture she made. She wanted to show him how much she loved him and how much she trusted him. Some kind of magic keeps the vault safe from spells and stuff like that.
He needed time to think. Time that he, unfortunately, didn't have anymore. After hours, he made up his mind. It was with this decision in mind that he returned to the hospital as if nothing had happened.
"Archie, where have you been? We have been looking for you for hours! We were worried." Snow started asking questions, she was in Regina's room when she saw him passing in the hallway.
"I'm fine." He answered and simply kept walking toward the twins' room.
Once inside the NICU, he came across Ruby sitting beside the tiny bed where the girls were now, she was playing with one of the girls that had her little hand wrapped around one of Ruby's fingers, while the other little hand was holding her sister's as if her life depended on it. The brunette seemed rather distracted and took a little scare when Archie sat beside her.
"Archie?!" She whispered hysterically. "Where were you? I looked for you for hours."
"I just needed some time alone." That was all he said.
An uncomfortable silence settled between them for a few minutes until Archie looked at the clock and cleared his throat, drawing Ruby's attention.
"It's already late, Ruby. Go home."
"But today is my day here with the girls."
"I know, but I asked Snow to stay with Regina for tonight, while I stay with my girls." He says calmly.
"But I-"
"Please, Ruby. It's just for tonight, ok? Just today don't ask me anything, let me be alone with my daughters for a while, please. You can stay with them tomorrow."
The brunette didn't argue, she did as he said and left the room. Archie waited a few minutes and left the room, leaving the girls with one of the nurses. He made his way to Regina's room and found Snow, Emma and Henry. The young man was talking to Regina, as he had been used to doing in the last month. For many times they wondered if Henry really believed Regina could hear him, because the boy could get lost amid the conversations he had with her.
Once inside the room, the three of them turned with curious glares at Archie.
"What is it, Archie? Is everything okay?" Snow asked calmly.
"Everything is fine, yes." He answered and headed to the empty side beside Regina's bed. "It's late, Henry. You must go home to sleep, tomorrow you're gonna wake up early to go to school."
"No. I'm not gonna go to school tomorrow. You said I could stay here with them." The boy said starting to get nervous.
"It's been over a month, Henry. You already lost a lot of classes, your mom wouldn't like it." He tried to argue with the boy.
"I'm not going." He affirmed. "I wanna stay with them."
"And you will, but not tomorrow morning. You're going to the school." Archie said firmly.
Emma and Snow were watching the discussion. They themselves had already discussed it, but none of them knew how to deal with the whole situation. They remained silent until Henry got completely exalted.
"You don't own me! You're not my father! I'm staying with my mom!" The boy cried.
"Henry!" Both Snow and Emma called at the same time, but Archie was faster.
"You're not staying here, Henry. I may not be your father, but I know what is best for you and I know what your mother would want. You're going to go back to school tomorrow."
"No!" Henry yelled again, his eyes already full of tears.
"Henry, please, let's talk-" Snow started talking, but the boy didn't want to listen.
"I don't want to talk. I'm staying." He insisted.
"You won't. You're going home right now. You 're underage and you're not allowed in this room. You're only here because Whale allowed it. If you don't obey me, I'll explain to him that you've been skipping school all this time and then you won't be able to enter this room anymore, is that what you want?" Archie asked in a serious tone that none of them was expecting. He wasn't kidding, he was really willing to do that.
"I HATE YOU!" Henry shouted and left the room crying, slamming the door on his way.
"I'm so sorry, Archie." Emma lamented before she left to follow her son.
Silence filled the room in the next seconds, but soon after Archie turned to Snow, who didn't know what to do, and caught her attention.
"Snow, it's already late, you should go home with Emma and Henry." He said calmly.
"Today is my day here in the hospital." She said.
"I know, but I need to stay with her tonight." He said with sad eyes and soon turned his full attention to the inert body in the bed. "Ruby will stay with the girls. She is out to eat something and will come back later. A nurse is there taking care of them."
Snow had nothing to say. The fear present in Archie's voice was almost tangible. He was afraid to lose her, they all were, but he was beyond scared, he was terrified. Without wanting to discuss it, she just whispered that she would be back in the morning and left the room, mentally begging that Regina would be fine, just for one more day.
With that everyone left the hospital.
Dr. Whale appeared in Regina's room later that night, as he always did. After checking on her for a few minutes, he said he was going to sleep, but that any difference or change he would soon be warned and would be in the room.
Archie waited a few more minutes. Everything was very quiet, as it always was at dawn in the hospital. He left Regina's room and went to his twins' room just to find the nurse almost sleeping.
He told her she could go sleep because he would stay with the girls and said that another nurse was with Regina. The nurse didn't take long and left the room.
Fear was a feeling that was always present with Archie in the last weeks, but in this moment, besides fear, he was sure. He was sure that he was going to do the right thing, even if he was going to be judged for his decision later. He had a promise to fulfill and he wasn't going to break this one promise. The only one he could fulfill.
He looked at his girls with nothing but pure love and admiration. They were sleeping and the small movements up and down that their chest did was so refreshing, so encouraging. Tears began to make their way down his face.
"It's okay, my little girls… you're gonna meet your mommy." He whispered and left the room again.
"I love you, you know that, huh?" Archie whispered. His face was already stained with tears, the same tears he thought he didn't have anymore. He awaited the answer for a few seconds, staring at the features of the face in front of him. He was waiting for any movement, any signal that she was listening to him, but the movement never came. "I love you so much and that is why I'm going to do this. I need you to forgive me, I need you to understand why I'm doing this." He waited once more, but nothing. "I just can't take it out of my head… you saying that you wanted to know them, to touch them…" He couldn't continue without his emotions speaking louder, but he also wouldn't stop now. He had to continue. "I love you so much. You were the best thing that happened to me, you were the best thing that happened in my entire life. The only good thing. You gave me two gifts and I will take care of them with all that I am. They will know that their mother was a hero, that she was brave and that she fought too hard so that they were alive. You're going to be alive forever, my love. Forever. I love you."
He whispered one last time and kissed the corner of her lips. The warm skin coming in contact with his lips. He looked at her one last time and he knew he was doing the right thing.
The next thing he knew, he was taking the tube out from her throat. As soon as he did so, Regina's breath began to change, the machines were slowly starting to get altered. He knew he had to do this fast. He ignored the distressful sound that was starting to leave Regina's lips and the sharp up and down movement of her chest and worked as fast as he could to free her from the machines and wires that were glued to her body.
He wrapped her in his arms and left the room, praying that they took a while to realize what was happening, but the machines beeping without control wasn't helping. He was able to make his way just until the hallway before countless nurses started running toward him.
"Dr. Hopper, what are you doing?" One of the nurses asked exalted.
"I'm taking her to meet her daughters." He warned determined.
"Archie, stop right now." Dr. Whale said with a commanding voice as he saw the image in front of him.
"Out of my way, Whale." Archie warned.
"Archie, you're killing her!" He shouted when only now he could hear the sound coming from Regina.
The distressful breath.
They tried to lead him back to Regina's ICU or even get her out of his arms, but he was determined.
"Don't touch me. Get out of my way, Whale." He growled, face to face with the doctor.
"You're killing her!" The doctor shouted.
"No, I'm not killing her. Her mother did this. You did this!" He yelled angrily. "You have kept her here for more than a month. She never improved. You killed her a long time ago!"
"No, Archie. You're doing that right now. She's dying, don't you see?" The doctor tried to argue with him.
"So don't let her die in vain, because I'm not gonna let her die without meeting her daughters. She fought for that, Whale."
"Archie, I don't-"
"I don't have time for this, she doesn't have time for this."
With that Archie ignored them all and went toward the girls' room. The nurses didn't know what to do and the truth was that even Dr. Whale didn't.
"Call Emma, call the Charmings and warn Mr. Gold!" The doctor shouted to the nurses and followed Archie.
Archie finally managed to make his way to the girls' room. Regina's breath was extremely slurred, the sounds were getting scarier, if that was even possible. She was trying to breath, her body was fighting, but without success. The movement and noise coming from outside the room, combined with the noise that Archie and Regina were making, made the girls wake up and within seconds they were crying.
Archie approached them still holding Regina in his arms.
"It's alright, it's alright… it's just mommy. I brought mommy so you can meet her." He tried to calm them down, even though he couldn't keep himself calm. "Shhhh, shhhh… it's okay, everything is gonna be fine."
The cries just increased and become desperate. They were scared. He was scared.
"Archie!" Dr. Whale warned once more, but he didn't dare to approach them.
Archie paid no attention, however. All he could listen to now was the frightened cries of his daughters and the agonizing breath.
Regina breathed in and out.
Or at least her body was trying, was fighting.
But she was losing this fight.
She breathed in and out, in and out, until she breathed in one last time but she didn't breathe out. She didn't fight anymore. Her body was still, her chest wasn't moving anymore and there wasn't the distressing sound anymore.
"No…" Archie whispered. "Just a little more, my love, just a little more… our girls are here."
He held Regina even tighter and moved closer to the girls, one of Regina's arms slid until it was hovering near one of the girls' bodies.
"You wanted to feel them, you remember? Wanted to touch them… they are incredible…" He whispered in her ear, he doesn't have the strength to hold back his cries anymore. His heart is broken and he knows that he won't ever be able to get over this loss. "They are beautiful, just like you."
"Archie, please." Dr. Whale insists for the last time, but he is ignored just like all the previous times.
"Shhh… shhh… it's just mommy, it's just mommy… everything is gonna be alright… everything is gonna be alright…" He kept repeating these words, but he didn't know if he was saying that to calm the girls down or to calm down his own broken heart and the truth is that he didn't know even if that was possible. Nothing was alright.
The girls were agitated, crying and moving their little hands and legs. Archie slightly lowered Regina's body so that her hand could make contact with the skin of one of the twins. Her fingers hovered over the belly of one of the girls and then Archie really realized that he had lost her for good.
He himself couldn't control the loud sobs that began to leave his lips. His eyes were full of tears and it was almost impossible to see anything in front of him. That's why he didn't see when one of the little hands grabbed one of Regina's fingers and that is why he didn't see the light that began to shine.
"What is happening?" Whale asked surprised, after all, magic was gone.
A gentle hum began to invade the place. It was as if the air was being slowly sucked away. A mild tremor could be felt beneath their feet.
The glow began in the contact between Regina and the girl. A mix of purple, pink and gold that combined formed a bright white that was slowly invading the room.
"Archie?!" The doctor yelled. "What is happening?"
"I don't know!" Archie screamed back.
The hum, once gentle, became powerful. It was as if an electric current of high voltage was passing around them. Gradually the white was becoming stronger and it was getting hard to keep their eyes open. Regina's body started shaking in Archie's arm. He tried to pull away by impulse, but his feet weren't working. Whatever it was, it was stronger than him. He had no control of it.
Suddenly, everything happened faster than they could handle. The ground shaking heavily, the lights on and off madly, the deafening hum and the bright and strong white light. New screams were heard, but there wasn't time to answer. There wasn't time to understand what was really happening.
The light that just moments ago was blinding, suddenly, became darkness.
It's not possible to know how much time had passed. It's impossible to know if it was seconds or even minutes.
Emma was the first to regain consciousness. There was a burning smell and there was a mild smell of blood too. Her vision was blurry and dark, or was it the room? She began to stir, but it was painful. It was as if she had been thrown meters away. The images began to make some sense before her confused mind, but the desperate cries of babies weren't helping too much. She rubbed her forehead and wasn't surprised when, for some reason, her hand came back slightly bloodstained.
She, once more, tried to look around her and understand what had just happened. The memories were invading her mind very fast. She can still remember of getting a call from the hospital in the middle of the night. She remembers her parents and her son inside the car, running to the hospital. Then, she remembers feeling the magic running inside her veins. She could feel the power that had completely disappeared about one month ago and she saw herself, in the next second, looking at a motionless Regina in Archie's arms. But that wasn't what caught her attention, it was the indescribable feeling of power flowing around her.
The bright light and then a gust of air that took her feet off the ground and everything became black.
Her eyes widened with the memories and she struggled to get up, but she stopped her movements at the same instant she saw what looked like Regina moving on the ground next to where the girls were crying nonstop.
"Regina?" She asked confused while crawling toward her.
But the brunette didn't answer, she was on the floor and the only thing she could do was raise her head and look around her, but even that seemed like a lot of effort.
"Regina?" Emma called once again, this time almost touching the woman and she didn't stop until she was kneeling in front of Regina, looking at her.
Big brown eyes were staring at her, but they were confused and lost. She could see the brunette frowning and struggling to keep her head up, but she couldn't control the joy that was invading her being.
"You're alive!" Emma shouted suddenly and pulled her into a hug, destabilizing the brunette. "I can't believe you're alive! Oh my God! You're alive, you're alive!" She kept repeating while still hugging the brunette.
"Emma-" Regina tried to speak, but the blonde's tightening was choking her. "Emma, you're- you're suffocating me." Regina said hoarsely from so many days without using it.
"You're alive!" Emma didn't pay attention to what she said and kept pressing her against her chest.
Then voices began to be heard and she could swear that some things on the floor were beginning to stir. Maybe it was people and she hadn't seen them a few seconds ago.
Regina was trying unsuccessfully to loosen Emma's grip. She felt dizzy and extremely tired, but overall, she was confused. It was when she looked around and saw Archie unconscious on the ground.
"Archie." She whispered the first time. Her voice seemed to betray her, because she couldn't scream, but that didn't mean she wouldn't try. "Archie?! Emma, what is happening? Archie?!"
Emma loosened the grip she had on Regina and looked to the side and saw the damage in the room. There was broken and scattered glass all over the floor, the shelves were broken and the chairs were upside down. It seemed like a hurricane had passed through the room. Emma saw the confusion in Regina's eyes give way to fear and worry.
"It's alright." She tried to calm the brunette in front of her and ran towards Archie, calling him while Regina just watched, she didn't have the strength to remain standing or even sitting for long.
"What happened?!" A shrill voice was suddenly heard. Snow.
"Oh God, Whale! Mr. Gold!" David saw the two men trying to stand, both seemed a bit dizzy and confused, and ran to help them.
"Archie, wake up!" Emma continued calling him and shaking him with a little desperation. Now wasn't the time to scare them. "You need to wake up. Archie! Archie!"
"Where is my mom?" Henry asked in a frightened voice, his little sisters were desperately crying, but the chaos in the room seemed to have distracted them. "What is happening?" He kept asking without receiving any answer and ran to his sisters. "Shhhh… shhh… it's okay… don't cry… don't cry." He tried to calm them down, but to no avail.
Snow, only now hearing the screams coming from the girls, ran to Henry's side to help him calm them, but she stopped in her tracks when she saw her.
"Regina?!" Snow asked surprised. "Regina?! You're alive! Oh my God!" Then she bent down beside her and helped her to her feet. She was instable, but she couldn't take her eyes off of Archie. "You're alive!" Snow yelled in her ear.
"Mom?" Only then Henry saw her and didn't waste time, she soon felt her boy's arms engulfing her in a strong grip. "I was so afraid, mom." The boy said and started crying, clinging to her as if his life depended on it. "I thought I would lose you."
"I'm here, Henry. I'm here, my little prince. I love you." Regina said, stroking her son's hair. Only for a few seconds she managed to divert her attention from Archie to Henry, but as soon as her eyes found Archie again, he was already running in her direction.
"You're alive!" He said and wrapped her in an even tighter embrace than the others, if possible. "I can't believe you're really here." He put his hands on her cheeks, looking intently at her eyes. The brightness and the tears of joy in his eyes couldn't go unnoticed, he was beaming, his eyes were brimming with joy, pure joy. "I love you," He said and kissed her face. "I love you," Another kiss. "I love you, I love you." He filled her face with soft kisses and then hugged her again, never wanting to let her go.
Even in the confusion, she found herself smiling and answering back. "I love you too, I love you, love you, love you."
No one dared to speak or interrupt the scene playing in front of them, except for the twins who were still desperately crying. The chaos previously established was slowly giving away.
"Shhhh, wee. Don't cry, don't cry… it's okay, it's okay." Snow's voice stood out in the silence of the chaos and the cries and when Regina heard and understood what Snow was doing, she gasped with the memories that flooded her mind.
She pulled away from Archie's arms and followed the sounds with her eyes. Her heart swelled up in her chest and the feeling was as it could explode at any moment. Snow was trying to calm two little babies and she knew these babies were hers. They were her girls, her twins. They both were alive and only one or two steps away from her. It seemed surreal. She had waited so long to see or touch them and she still remembers when she thought she would never see them, she still remembers when she thought her girls could be dead and she still remembers when she heard one of her girls crying in the operation room and she knew she wouldn't live long enough to be with them. But now, here, she didn't know what to do, maybe it wasn't nothing more than a dream. A wonderful dream.
"Are they-" She tried to ask, but a knot had formed in her throat, her eyes were wide and her breath was getting fast, faster than normal. "Are they mine?"
She felt a strong hand squeezing hers and faced Archie's silly grin encouraging her. "They are yours, my love. Your daughters, our girls."
She approached the small bed. Archie stood right behind her, he realized she wasn't stable and she still had a weary look as if she could pass out at any moment.
"My girls," She said crying, looking scared and worried at them. She was obviously nervous and altered. Without thinking twice she ran her trembling hands around the small body of one of the girls, but when she was about to pull the girl to her, Snow stopped her.
"Regina," Snow called, realizing how much Regina seemed weak and altered, and held Regina's hand making the older brunette look at her. "They are scared, Regina, and you need to rest."
"No!" Regina yelled suddenly, scaring everyone around her, including the girls. "They are mine, they are mine." She whispered and turned to look at the crying girls in front of her. Her breathing was exalted again, she was trembling and crying.
"Regina, my love, they are yours. No one is gonna take them away from you, they are just worried. You're nervous-" Archie tried to calm her down, but was cut off.
"I'm not nervous." She cut angrily, but calmed herself as soon as she realized that the babies got more agitated when she yelled. "I just want to touch them, I just want to hold them. I'm not gonna hurt them, I promise." She said with teary eyes and fear.
"Oh, my love, I know you won't hurt them. They are just scared, that's all, okay? Let's try to calm them first, what do you think? Wanna try?" He offered calmly.
She looked at Henry who had one of his fingers wrapped by the tiny hand of one of his sisters and returned her haze to Archie, there was confusion and sadness. "I don't… I don't know what to do." She whispered amid fresh tears.
"Just talk to them, they know their mother." He encouraged with a calm smile.
She looked at him for a few more seconds, fear and insecurity showing in her features. She was anxious and afraid, but she still turned her full attention to the little girls. This time, she extended her hand more calmly, gently. She was hovering above the two small shaken bodies, looking at them with nothing less than pure adoration.
"Hey, my little girls… don't cry… don't cry…" She whispered holding a hand of each girl, losing herself in the feeling she had waited so long to feel. Small chubby hands wrapping her fingers tightly, with vigor.
"It's okay, mommy is here." Archie whispered immediately gaining the girls' attention. "Mommy is here, you missed mom, didn't you?" She said while he looked at Regina, encouraging her even more, if possible.
No one wanted to stop or interrupt this moment, not even Whale, who wanted to check the girls and especially Regina, after all she had just woken up from over a month of being in a coma. They were just watching in silence.
Archie's voice calmed them almost instantly. They were still pouting and they were all tear-stained and slightly reddish in the face, but now they were staring at the two faces over them.
"Good girls." He praised when he realized that they had stopped crying. "My girls are getting so smart." He said with a silly voice. "Who are my girls, huh? Who are the most beautiful little girls in this world?"
Archie's voice graced Isabella's face with a toothless smile, while Lillian was just watching everything around her with a pretty grimace on her little face.
"You see, we just need to talk to them." He smiled at her.
"Hey, sweetheart," She started. "My little one, you are so tiny." She said looking at Lillian, realizing that the girl was giving all of her attention to her, her little eyes were wide with curiosity and concentration, as if she recognized the voice. The little one's concentration brought a silly smile to Regina's face. "Do you remember me? It's me, mommy, do you remember?"
Then, the curious and concentrated feature gave way to a smile that took over her whole face and reflected into her little eyes. Joy and yes, recognition. She knew whose voice that was. Her legs and arms started swinging as if to reach the owner of the voice.
"She's smiling!" Henry suddenly shouted, pointing to Lillian. "Lilly is smiling!"
"What?!" Archie and Snow spoke at the same time, both were surprised.
"She's smiling to mom!" The boy repeated in pure joy. "All of you lost the bet."
Regina was hearing what they were saying and she wanted to understand what that bet was, but in this moment she only has eyes for that smile. She realized she was madly in love. This time, however, Emma was quick to pick up the phone and register the moment, although none of them noticed.
Feeling calmer and less exhausted, Regina looked at Archie seeking approval to finally hold the girl in her arms. He smiled confidently and she wasted no time. In the next second, one of her girls was resting on her chest while the brunette was lost in the feeling of having her in her arms. The softness of her skin, the movements that the girl's chest was making against her own, the little noises she was making, the soft hair, everything. She was just perfect.
Archie took the other girl and brought her to his chest, so that she was facing Regina. The brunette didn't know which of the two girls she should look at, they were perfect. Soon she was trying to memorize every detail of their faces, each minute detail. Their lips, noses, eyebrows. Their dark hair as well as hers and the eyes she loved so much now were in double dose.
"They are beautiful." She whispered enchanted.
"They are, aren't they?" Archie said smiling. Even after so many days after their birth, he still couldn't get used to the beauty of his daughters. HIS daughters.
"Yes." She answered so quickly and so quietly that it could have gone unnoticed by everyone. "They have your eyes." She looked amazed.
"Only the eyes. They are a copy of you, everything on them is just like you."
A comfortable silence settled in the room. She wanted to know everything about her girls, to learn everything. Each single detail, each feature, each sound, everything and she could stay all day just contemplating what they had created. What Archie and her had created. For her, it was almost impossible to believe that something so good, so pure and so beautiful could have come from her.
"Look what we did, Archie." She spoke softly with an exciting and proud smile on her lips.
"Yes." He caressed and kissed the top of the head of the girl in his arms. "Look what we did."
It was there that they learned, truly and without doubts that they were made for each other. There, they realized that love and happiness exist and that it's worth fighting with all your strength to reach them.
Looking at the girl in her arms and at the girl in Archie's arms, looking at Henry and looking at all those people in that room that, somehow, cared about her, Regina realized that you are for sure able to write your own future. She realized that revenge is useless and that love, the true love, can set you free, heal and make you happy. Love is not weakness, as her mother fought so hard to teach her, but love is strength, it's power, it's magic, the most powerful of them all.
She, then, remembered that she never liked surprises, much less changes, but she realized that something unexpected had brought her exactly to where she was now. An unexpected change had changed the course of her life forever and it was the best thing that could have happened to her. She was gifted.
There, in the silence and gentleness after the chaos, Regina realized that she had been, for all her life, half, but now, now she was whole. Now she was complete and only a second's thought made her realize that her happy ending was here. Finally.
This was happiness. True happiness.

I can't believe we finally reached the end of this story. It's been over one year, one year and a half to be exact and I can't even believe how much I learned. I smiled, cried, had fun, got carried away, I was sad, surprised, scared and so many other things and I'm sure many of you did too.
I have no words to thank you who have followed this story from the first chapter, I can't thank enough you who followed this story and gave me your vote of confidence to favorite it even before we get to the last chapter, thank you very much. To you who have left reviews on almost all chapters, to you guys who left even if only one reviews and to you who bothered to just come here and read this story, I thank you very much!
You have come so far, even with my English mistakes, but I need to say that it was you who brought me here too. Thank you. I can't forget thanking two people who helped me a lot and who without them I'm sure I wouldn't reach here, Kristy and Annie, you read my chapters, corrected my errors and patiently were teaching me even knowing I couldn't give anything in return. I don't know how to thank you, especially you, Kristy. You became a friend.
I won't list reader's names because I don't want to be unfair by forgetting a name, but you are the best. Look where we are and this is a story of Archie and Regina, who would have thought a story of them could get so far? Thank you, girls.
And lastly, I would like to highlight two names without whom I also wouldn't have had the courage, persistence and excitement to write this story. Nara Marina, I don't know if you're gonna read this, but, anyway, thank you very much, I often had no one to talk to or who to ask for opinion on where to go with this story and you used to be there. And Ana Paula, do I have words to thank you? No. No words or thanks or anything I try writing here will show what I feel and how much I'm grateful to you, I can only thank you and tell you what you already know. I love you, my dear friend.
No more, thank you!
