Ultimate mission

"Aelita? Are you alright?" asked Jeremy as he noticed the girl's face.

"Yes, I was just thinking."

"Listen, if you want to try to contact your mother one more time, we're ok with that," said Yumi as Harry opened an email. A broad grin covered his face.

"We've waited long enough. Xana has to be destroyed. My mum seems to work for Tyron but she has a life on the side for sure. I can talk to her through Tyron's supercomputer for now but I believe I'll find her."

"I've got one better. Come with me." Harry tugged on Aelita's arm. The group shared a look before following Harry to the Hermitage.

"Sorry about covering your eyes Aelita. It's a surprise," said Harry as he covered the girl's eyes as he guided her into the lounge. He uncovered them. "Surprise."

"Mum?" the two stared at each other before embracing. "Mum!"

"Aelita."

"You told her where to find us?" whispered Jeremy.

"It was the right thing to do." Harry yelped as he was brought into the hug too. "Ok, I don't like being surprised."

"Thank you Harry."

Lab

"I'm launching the virtualisation."

They quickly boarded the two subs.

"Ok, a recap. When you make it inside the Cortex, I'll materialise the Megapod so you can make it to the core without getting destroyed by the quakes. Sorry William but there isn't enough seats in the Megapod." William looked shocked. "You'll stay as back up in the Skid."

"What?! Wait, I can't stay as back up in the Skid while you go destroy Xana! We're a group, remember?"

"He does have a point," said Harry with a sigh. "William has as much right as any one of us to be there."

"There's no choice. Sorry," apologised Jeremy.

"I could follow the Megapod. With Super Smoke, I can avoid the quakes."

"That's risky. This is our final mission. You'll stay as back up just in case."

"I can stay as back up instead," offered Sissi.

"You're out of luck Will," called Odd.

"What's with this new thing you have with calling me Will?" asked William. "I hate that, call me William!"

"Ok Will."

William growled.

"Don't do that, it makes me nervous," called Harry. "Reminds me of when Xana controlled you."

"I'll restart. Once you're inside the core, one of you should connect to the interface which will allow me to get the virus into Tyron's supercomputer which shelters Xana. As soon as the virus infects the system and destroys it, Xana will be wiped out. Is that clear to everyone?"

Everyone agreed, some more reluctantly than others.

"I can't believe this. We'll be able to return to our normal lives," said Ulrich.

"Normal? What's normal?" asked Harry.

"I don't think I'll ever know what that means," said Aelita with a sigh.

"We'll always be there for you Aelita," said Yumi as she tried to comfort the girl.

"Yeah, you've always been there for me."

"It's been a good time but even the best of times have to end," said Sissi.

"Well, we could try and get the Wizarding world integrated into the normal one," said Luna. "It's happening all over the world already. People have heard of and taken Harry's approach. More and more people are becoming aware of magic. Here in France, there are normal and magical people already working together."

"We could do that," said Odd.

"Cortex straight ahead. Take it all in. this might be the last time that we see it."

They entered the access and soared to the docking point. William pouted as he watched the Megapod roll away.

"See you later Will!"

"Stop calling me Will!" yelled William.

"I must be dreaming," muttered Jeremy as he checked something. "Unbelievable. Guys, the cortex evolved!"

"What?!"

"Tyron improved his system. You're currently traveling on Cortex 2.0."

"Will that change something with the virus?" asked Aelita anxiously.

"No, not at all. It will be just as effective," assured Jeremy. "He managed to make it more stable. There would be no more quakes."

"No more quakes? Too bad, there go my adrenaline junkie moments," moaned Odd.

"Keep your eyes on the road Odd," suggested Harry.

"Jeremy does that mean that there will be no danger while moving around on the plateau?" asked William.

"Exactly. No need to ask, I get it. You can join the others. I'll transfer you immediately."

"Cool! Jeremy, you can tell Odd that Will is on his way!" William shot after them as smoke.

"On it. Odd, Will's charged me with telling you that…"

"Yes Jeremy? What does the little Will want from me?"

"We've done laughing. Xana's noticed you. Three mantas, the first is in the lead and is just behind you."

Said monster fired at them as it chased the vehicle.

"Ok, do you want me to go take care of it?" asked Harry.

"I'll take the turret." Ulrich took the trigger.

"Give it all you've got. This is our final battle," said Odd.

Ulrich managed to destroy the manta as Odd dodged the shots. "I got it!"

"Bravo but don't give out a victory cry just yet. The two others are coming."

"Do something!" The passengers yelled as they got knocked about. "Remember, Xana's got 90% of his power."

"Outside combat Jeremy," suggested Aelita.

"Ok."

Yumi, Sissi, Luan and Aelita watched the Megapod pass them before attacking the Mantas. The Megapod helped out a bit.

"Jeremy, I have no control anymore," complained Odd.

"And I can't shoot," added Ulrich.

"Oh, no, no, no! Not this! The Megapod is going to be taken out!"

"What?!"

Harry closed his eyes and slipped out of the vehicle and aimed at the Mantas before firing. He destroyed them but not in time to stop the Megapod being destroyed. Another five mantas turned up.

"Yumi, now there are no quakes, you have to protect Aelita. She can possibly open the door like Harry can."

Yumi ran for the girl as a manta hit her. It prepared to fire again but William blocked the shot and pulled her up.

"Thanks."

"This way! The core is just over there!" They ran towards it or in Luna's case, hopped. William got hit several times and devirtualised. Harry took out the offending manta as vengeance. Yumi destroyed another one.

"Get to the iris!"

Aelita ran over to it and used her creativity to open the door. A manta devirtualised her.

"No!"

Luna got hit as well.

"Run! The two of you!"

They ran to the iris as it shut. Harry pressed his hand to it and closed his eyes. No response.

"Why isn't it working?" asked Yumi.

"I think there's a limit as to how soon the door can be opened again. I can't override it without everything going to hell."

Lab

"We suck, really suck," said Odd. "The ultimate mission was the ultimate shame."

"It was only a setback," said Jeremy. "We weren't expecting the iris to have a protocol that stops it being opened twice in a certain period."

"Let's hope. Because, frankly, we weren't up to par," said Ulrich.

"Xana was never this strong," said Yumi. "His mantas destroyed the Megapod in seconds."

"And he's still missing 5% of his power," added Harry. "The codes inside me, William, Aelita and Yumi."

"What if Xana's become too powerful for us?" asked Aelita. "Too powerful to be destroyed?"

"I don't think so," said Harry with a frown. "He would have gone for me if that was so. And we didn't see the Scyphozoa. Well, we've seen it twice but not that time. He's scared of me as well as everything else he's said about me."

"Stop, we're going to make it," said Jeremy. "We were surprised, that's all. We'll try again at 6:30. That way, we won't miss school. This time, it will be the end of Xana. Ok?"

Kadic, sometime later

A limo drove up at the gate.

"Yes Yumi? What? The boys are already there? In an hour? That doesn't surprise me. I'll be there in two minutes."

Aelita groaned slightly. She had only just got back from spending time with her mum.

"Aelita, I was looking for you," said Jim as she exited the dorm. "The principal wants to see you."

"Huh? Now? But why?"

"You'll see. Come on."

Aelita reluctantly followed Jim to Delmas' office where she froze at seeing the second person.

"Tyron." She backed away but Jim stopped her. "Let me leave. I don't feel well."

"Aelita. What's wrong?" asked Delmas. "I don't understand. Aren't you happy?"

"Happy about what?"

"That your mother is still alive."

"Don't worry, it's normal," reassured Tyron. "She has a lot to adjust to, poor thing. I can understand that this is hard for you. To learn that your mother is alive and remarried at the same time. It's a lot, isn't it? But whether you like it or not, I'm your step father now."

Lab

"I don't understand," said Yumi. "She said that she'd be here in two minutes."

"We have a problem," said Harry as he hacked into the school cameras. "Look at this."

Everyone watched as Tyron exited the limo and walked into the school.

"Aelita's with Tyron?" asked Jeremy.

"Most likely."

"I'll go look for her," said Yumi. "I'll keep you informed."

"Here." Harry's clones formed. "Take these. They'll help. And if someone is looking for me, well, they'll find me but they won't find me."

Cortex

"Aelita will try to get away from Tyron," said Harry as he tried to reassure them.

"Well, I'll go help look too," said Sissi as she left the lab. Luna followed her.

Kadic

"Your mother and Mr Tyron have been married for four years," explained Delmas. "It was your mother's authorisation to make Tyro your legal guardian. He's taking you to Switzerland. You'll see your mother again."

"I don't want to go with him."

"Uh, Mr Delmas, I found the other one," said Jim as he pushed Harry's clone into the room.

"You ok Aelita?"

"Harry!" Aelita hugged him.

"Mr Stern I presume." Tyron hid a smirk.

"Are you talking about me, my brother or my dad?" Harry raised an eyebrow.

"I've heard about your intelligence and your skill with computing…"

"From Laura Gauthier, I know. And I'm more interested in finishing school than working with anyone at the moment. Perhaps I might consider a job when I've left school." Harry closed his eyes. "And if Aelita doesn't want to leave Kadic, she doesn't have to. She's got friends here."

"Your mother left you a message." Tyron passed Aelita his tablet and she played the recording.

"Aelita, my love. I don't know where to start. I'm so happy to know that you're alive, that we're going to see each other again. It's like a miracle. I still can't believe it. You're going to meet Mr Tyron. My dear Lowel. I'm having him bring you back. You can completely trust him. I will tell you everything. We have so much to talk about. I can't wait to see you. I love you."

The recording ended and Tyron took the tablet back. Harry frowned and tapped a message on Aelita's leg. Tyron pulled out some jewellery from his jacket.

"Your mother's medallion. She wanted me to bring it to you. And I do hope you'll reconsider Mr Stern. We could use an intelligent person like you."

"A lot of people could use an intelligent person like me. Most people are stupid." Harry cocked his head. "Why should I go to the first person to offer me a job?"

Tyron didn't answer.

"Exactly."

"Can we talk for just five minutes?" asked Tyron. "Just the three of us."

Delmas and Jim left.

"Ok, now it's just us, we can talk more clearly." Aelita looked at the picture. "You want to see your mother again. In order to do that, you need to obey me. And you, Stern, you will give me that override code you have. Do you understand?"

Harry snickered. "You are so naive Tyron. Anthea Hopper is closer than you think. I had a friend help her get out. He's the one with the override code. And it's useless to you. It's locked to his DNA."

"That ninja. You know that ninja? Who is he?"

"Now, why should I tell you?"

"I know everything about your virus. First of all, I want you to tell your friends to stop everything."

"Not going to happen. They know everything that is happening in this room." Harry smirked at Tyron's face.

"And I wouldn't do it anyway," said Aelita.

"If you don't do as I say, I will ensure that you'll never see your mother again. But if you obey me, you can tell her what you want, even leave with her."

Harry sent Aelita a glance who nodded.

"Franz Hopper is still alive and he and Anthea have reunited."

"What?" Tyron looked startled.

"And you didn't look did you? Xana is real. Anyway, according to the officials, this is Aelita Stones, a Canadian. She doesn't' have any relation to Franz and Anthea Hopper or a certain James Potter. That means that you're not her legal guardian. And Aelita Hopper would be at least twenty two by now so she doesn't need a legal guardian."

"And I can't do that anyway," added Aelita.

"Destroying my computer is more important to you than seeing your mother again."

"We did try to tell you," said Aelita. "But you wouldn't listen. It's not your system we're interested in. It's Xana, a program that resides in it that we're after. Xana is dangerous."

"Extremely," added Harry. "He tried to kill us more than once."

"Let me come in!"

"It's a private matter."

The three turned to the door.

"A private matter? Let me go in! Aelita! Harry!" Yumi pushed the door open and froze as she saw Tyron.

"Prison break!"

They ran back out. Harry glanced at the medallion.

"Well stop them," ordered Tyron as he spotted Jim.

"I can't use force. That's beyond my duties."

Tyron called his chauffeur as Sirius watched through the window.

Aelita

"Tyron and my mother are married," said Aelita as they walked. "And what did you mean when you said a friend had the override code Harry?"

"I'm not the real Harry."

"I see," said Yumi. "You don't get it when Harry creates you."

"Nope. I have everything but that."

"Hello you three!"

"Dad!" Aelita hugged Franz. "Tyron found us. He said that he was my legal guardian. But Harry used the rules against him."

"It's crazy. How did he find us?" asked Jeremy. "Didn't we cover our tracks?"

"We covered the electronic trails," said Harry. "But I couldn't stop Tyron from remembering the information about us he had."

"Wait a minute. Where are you?"

"Heading towards the sewers," said Yumi.

"Hey guys," said Sissi as she and Luna joined them.

"Stop."

"Why?" asked Aelita.

"You're being followed. My security system captured a GPS signal coming from you. The person with the receiver just entered the park."

"Harry, where's the other clone?" asked Yumi.

"Here." They looked between the two Harrys.

"Does anything that is given to you get destroyed when you get recalled?"

"I have no idea. We could try."

Aelita took the picture from the medallion and gave it to one of the clones who put it on and disappeared. The medallion dropped to the floor. Yumi picked it up.

"I'll take this away."

Cortex

"Good news. Aelita is coming."

"So why is she late?" asked Ulrich. "What's the deal?"

"Tyron found us. He tried to take her away but Aelita ran."

"Ah, finally!" said Odd as the girl appeared. "We missed you."

"I was with her Odd. I didn't miss her," said Harry as he stared at the boy.

"Let's go. There isn't any room to error."

They used different modes of transport to navigate the Cortex.

Yumi

Yumi led the tracker away from the sewers with Luna, Sissi and Harry's clone following her. Tyron snatched her hand.

Cortex

"Core in sight!" they skidded to a halt.

Yumi

"Where is Aelita?! Where are the others?!"

"Like we'd tell you," said Sissi. The chauffeur grabbed Yumi.

"Get the lab. Tell them to run a scan of the core immediately. I want to know if there's a presence inside. I'll hold." Harry's clone blinked before glancing at Luna who nodded.

"Petrificus Totalus!" The chauffeur fell to the floor as he stiffened, causing him to let go of Yumi.

"What?!" Tyron spun around.

"You underestimated us," said Harry's clone with a smile.

Cortex

They looked at the door. Aelita ran over and opened it. She, Harry and William ran inside.

Yumi

"Three presences detected. They just entered."

"Shut off the supercomputer. Now! It's an order!"

"Don't do that! You don't understand!" pleaded Yumi.

"Just the opposite. I understand quite well. I'd rather shut down the supercomputer rather than lose all my work thanks to your filthy virus."

"My friends… If you shut it down, they'll…"

"You sure have changed Tyron. I thought you'd just give up on this type of work." Tyron stared at Franz.

"You're dead. You have to be dead."

"I have quite alive thanks to Harry here. Doesn't he seem familiar?" Tyron stared at Franz in confusion. "His father was rather annoying according to you."

"He's James Potter's son?"

"You can leave my Godson alone!" Sirius punched Tyron.

"You! Weren't you in jail?"

"For something I didn't do," snapped Sirius. "Now, stop going after my Godson!"

"And my nephew. I don't appreciate people threatening my family. Did you know that some of your guards let Anthea escape? They saw a ninja treating her wounds and let him go."

Cortex

Aelita and Harry reached the terminal.

"Jeremy, the light changed in the core," said Aelita as she noticed it.

"Tyron's shutting it down. Give me a second." Harry touched the terminal and started to control it. "I delayed them. This should give us time to get the virus into the system."

"Hurry Harry."

"Done it. Send the virus."

"I'll bring you in first." Jeremy typed at the keyboard. "Damn, an error. It won't work. The shutdown procedure is clouding your signal and it's taking precedence again."

Harry continued to control the terminal. "I can stop it for a time but you have to get out now. If I don't stop it, there's the risk that we fall into the digital sea."

Aelita and William headed towards the exit.

"Come on Harry!"

"Give me a second."

The platforms started to fall.

"HARRY! HURRY UP!" yelled William. Harry continued to use the interface.

"Go William. I can take care of myself." Pausing at the interface, he brought up the interface around his wrist and called the Lightning. William used super smoke to reform next to him.

"You don't intend to survive this, do you?"

"As long as I'm around, Xana will be able to return then he'll come for me. I can't let that happen."

"William's right Harry. You have to get out of there," begged Jeremy. "Please. Everyone is waiting for you."

William looked at Harry's determined face. "If you're not going back, then I'm staying with you."

"What? No! You have your whole life William. Go, take it."

"You really don't get it, do you?" William took Harry's hand. "I couldn't live with myself if I survived when you died. I still owe you."

"I thought we were even."

William shook his head.

Outside

The group ran to the Skid as the platforms started to fall there too.

"Jeremy, are they coming?" asked Aelita.

"Yes. No. I don't know. The Lightning is waiting for them just outside so I think they're preparing to come. I think you should get out of there."

Yumi

"Something's blocking the shutdown procedure. With the delay, the computer should be shut down in a few minutes."

"I'll hold. Nothing should remain switched on. Not even in standby mode," instructed Tyron. Sissi slipped away.

Harry

Harry tapped once more. "That will stop the supercomputer from shutting down until the virus had done its work. Let's go William."

They both turned to smoke and raced out of there. Reforming next to the Lightning, Harry opened it up and they squeezed in. Harry immediately dived into the digital sea as the cortex exploded.

Yumi

"It's done but the virus got to the program. It's gone." A look of anger crossed Tyron's face.

"Are they alright?" whispered Luna.

"Where did Harry go?" Yumi whispered back. Luna glanced around to see that the boy was missing. Tyron advanced on the three in anger.

"Stupefy!" Tyron collapsed to the ground as the four headed towards the lab in a rush.

Lab, sometime later

"Where are they?" asked Ulrich as soon as they entered the lab.

"I can't find them. They dived but I lost the signal." Jeremy bit his lip. "The virus worked. Xana is destroyed. But the cost was far too great. The supercomputer supporting the cortex was shut down just as it finished working."

Sissi gasped and started to sob. Aelita pulled her into her arms and consoled her. Ulrich stared at nothing. Yumi entered the lab in a rush; Franz, Sirius and Luna close behind her.

"What happened?" She looked at everyone's face before noticing that two were missing. "Where are Harry and William?"

"They... they..." Ulrich didn't need to say anymore as Yumi's face froze.

"Gone? How?"

"The cortex was destroyed just as they left," explained Aelita. "The virus worked but their signal disappeared."

"We'll have to shut Lyoko down," said Jeremy with tears running down his checks. "I'll miss them. Especially Harry."

"He was such a brave kid," mumbled Sirius. "He had so much more to look forward to."

"It's going to be so weird without Harry and William," said Odd with no trace of his usual cheer. "Harry had been with us since the beginning. And William, he's a good person and friend."

"We have to keep living," said Luna as she kissed Odd on the cheek. "They sacrificed themselves so we could have a normal life."

"You are an amazing girl Luna. Would you like to go out with me?"

"I've been waiting for you to ask." Luna kissed him again, this time on the mouth.

"But they still live on," said Franz. "In our hearts. And Harry would want us to live on. We can't let their active be in vain."

"Xana may be destroyed but Tyron is Aelita's legal guardian now. He'll be back," said Jeremy.

"We'll stay together," insisted Aelita.

They stepped into the elevator. Jeremy turned the supercomputer off.

A search went out for the two missing boys but they were never found.

Years passed and the group grew up. Jeremy and Aelita married as did Ulrich and Yumi. Sissi's heart never truly healed. Odd and Luna married and had a large family. Franz and Anthea married after a few years. The Wizarding world eventually revealed themselves to the world. They stayed together just as they'd promised and had children and their children had children.

Ron and Dumbldore eventually went to jail as their efforts to bring HArry back were found out.

Hermione Granger eventually managed to bring the British Wizarding world into the 21st centuray an dran the department for developing electronics that worked around magic.

Remus Lupin and Sirius eventually met up and reconciled with each other. Sirius doted on Remus's child Teddy and renistared Remus's wife, Nymphadora Tonks.

The Lyoko Warriors told their families of Lyoko and their struggles. The children never believed that their parents and grandparents had battled an evil artificial intelligence program. The group never forget and wrote down their experiences as a series of novels. They held Harry and William inside their hearts and never forgot their sacrifices.

Lyoko

The virtual world was dark. Inside the dormant tower in sector five, two figures were curled around each other. There was no movement, almost like the two were in suspended animation. They slept as they waited for the supercomputer to be turned back on. A red line flickered over one of their faces before disappearing.
