I don't own Hetalia, unfortunately. *crieees*

"I think... Gil, I think I'm in love with Lukas."

"I know," Gilbert replied, shocking Matthias so much that he nearly fell out of his chair.

"W-what?!" The Danish teen yelped. Please don't let everyone know. Please.

"I know you're in love with Lukas," Gilbert repeated. "Don't worry, I'm the only one to have noticed it, and I haven't told anyone. Remember that I know what it's like- I know what I'm looking for. What are you going to do?"

Still shocked, Matthias stammered out his reply. "I-I don't kn-know... I hadn't got that far..."

"Only just realised your feelings, huh? Don't worry, it'll work out. Just promise me you won't do what me and mein Birdie did- tell him your feelings as soon as you can." With that, the Prussian turned back to the game, cheering slightly when Matthew won the game by eleven points.

Well. That was not how he expected that to go.

.:.

After the hockey game was terminated with a weary sigh (Lukas) and a slightly manic giggle (Matthew), the two went upstairs to join their boyfriend and classmate. While Gilbert got a hug and a kiss from Matthew, Matthias was not so lucky.

"Ow! What was that for, Luke?!" Matthias yelped as Lukas kicked him in the shin (less violently so than usual, the Dane noted- perhaps the game wore him out?).

Lukas replied with a question of his own, "Are you stalking me?"

Yes, thought Matthias. "No!"

"Then why are you here?" Lukas asked, fixing Matthias with an icy glare.

"Great minds think alike!" The Dane said brightly.

"Yes, great minds do think alike. That is why I am confused as to why you and I are in the same place, at the same time."

"Huh? Heeeyy~ That's meeean!" Matthias pouted. Lukas sighed at his childish expression.

"So mature..." He said sarcastically.

All the while, Matthew and Gilbert were entwined in a tight embrace, barely noticing the existence of the other two, let alone the unheated argument. The Norwegian looked at the other Scandinavian for a second and then sat down. Matthias mirrored his action, then nudged him and pointed discreetly (or as discreetly as he could manage, anyway) at the couple now laughing softly as they moved to order more drinks, teasing each other all the way.

"Doesn't it look nice? I wish I could have something like that."

The platinum blonde gave him a quizzical look. "What?"

"Love," Matthias replied simply. "Returned love, something you know isn't just going to die after an argument or two." I want something like that with you.

"I suppose... I've never really thought about it all..." Lukas sighed again.

"What? Why? How?" Matthias asked intelligently, making the other smirk at his confused expression.

"I've never really had time for a relationship, I suppose. There's always been more important stuff on my mind..." Lukas' eyes glazed over, as the skier became lost in his thoughts.

"Like what, Lukas?" Matthias asked softly, sensing the mood for once.

The Norwegian snapped out of his trance. "Nothing! I mean... Er..."

Thankfully for him, Gilbert and Matthew chose that time to return with the drinks, still flirting playfully with each other.

"So, Lukas! Do you want to go skiing after this?" Matthew asked, drawing his eyes away from his boyfriend.

"Birdie, I don't think he'll have enough energy after-" Gilbert began softly before Lukas cut him off, his usually calm blue eyes sparkling with joy and... Competition?

"Sure, that sounds like fun."

The Danish and Prussian teenagers stared at him in disbelief. "B-but... You just played hockey... With mein Birdie..."

"Great!" Matthew said happily. "Where did you go yesterday?"

As Lukas and Matthew began discussing places in which they would ski, Gilbert and Matthias turned to each other with looks of disbelief.

"Are they serious?" Gilbert asked the other in a shocked tone.

Matthias blinked as is recovering from being hit by a very bright light. "I know Lukas is an amazing skier, but he just played a game of hockey against the skating equivalent of himself..."

"Okay, now what is the deal with the Norwegian and skiing? Birdie mentioned something, and now you... I don't get it!" Gilbert said, frustrated.

Matthias smirked uncharacteristically and said, "Man, wait until you see him on those slopes. I can't wait to see this first-hand..."

Gilbert pouted at the Dane until he heard his name being said by his little Birdie. "Sorry, mein liebling?"

"Do you two want to join us?"

"Sure, but I haven't got my gear on me," Gilbert replied, slightly intrigued by the prospect of finding out just what was so special about the athlete who had made friends with his boyfriend so easily and quickly, and who had almost kept up with the skating demon that Matthew was.

"That's fine, we'll rent some."

"Okay, Matthias, do you want to get some skis or join us on your board?"

The aforementioned Dane jumped up and gave the two athletes looking at him questioningly a wide grin. "I'll just use my board, thanks!"

Matthew nodded excitedly and clapped his hands together enthusiastically. "I can't believe I actually going to ski alongside Lukas Bondevik!"

As Matthias laughed slightly at a confused Gilbert, the aforementioned skier smirked and said, "Well, I don't know about alongside... I think I'm entitled to some revenge."

Matthew huffed slightly. "Well, it's not my fault you're not as good at hockey as I am!"

"Nor is it mine that you aren't as good at skiing as I am."

"But that's unfair! You were brought up with skiing!" The Canadian replied defensively.

"As you were brought up with hockey, no doubt."

"Well, yeah, but I'm Canadian!" Matthew used his last (and rather pathetic) resort.

"And I am Norwegian," Lukas said, signalling the end of the argument.

Matthew pouted again and grabbed his gear. "Okay, okay. Let's go!"

The four headed out of the cafe and to the fake slopes via the rental shop. It didn't take long for Gilbert to realise exactly why his friend and boyfriend were so excited about the introverted Norwegian once they were on the 'snow'.

Lukas found the place he had been in the day before in seconds, and immediately started performing a few tricks to tease the Canadian who had beaten him in hockey. It was nothing particularly spectacular- the jumps weren't made for his more complex routines- but they still caused Matthew to stop and stare at his sheer elegance.

"Dieu... The camera doesn't do him justice..." He whispered in awe. Matthias nodded in agreement.

Gilbert blinked a few times. "Mein Gott... The man's a master!" He exclaimed.

"And that is why I said he would be fine playing hockey against me," Matthew said, eyes still following his friend.

"Just to fill you in, he has a YouTube channel that has a bunch of videos of him skiing on; he's been described as 'Norway's most talented young athlete'; he's won a bunch of competitions..."

"He's also expected to compete in the Winter Olympics in a few years' time- and win gold," Matthew added. "The only reason he isn't world-famous already is that he prefers to keep to himself. He's a sort of mysterious king of the skiing world."

"What's he doing here in Copenhagen, then?" Gilbert asked, confused. The three were still watching Lukas, who had stopped performing tricks and was instead lost in his practice, a blue blur against white.

"He says his family moved here... I don't get it, either. I'm guessing he'll go back to Norway once he's finished his education, or when he turns eighteen, or something..." Matthew replied distractedly.

"Hang on, what?" Matthias said, panicked. Lukas couldn't leave so soon! Matthias had to tell him he loved him!

"Well, you can't expect him to stick around in Denmark when his career is back in Norway, can you?"

Gilbert looked at his boyfriend for a second, and then said, "Birdie, do you know everything about him?"

Matthew looked sheepishly into his collar. "No..."

Gilbert's face lit up as he realised something. "He's your idol, isn't he? I bet you went all fangirl on him when you realised who he was!"

"N-no, he's not... And o-of course I didn't... I wouldn't fangirl, anyway! I'm a boy!" Matthew huffed.

"Of course, Birdie. Of course," Gilbert laughed, provoking a little 'hmph!' from the Canadian.

All the while, Matthias had been thinking deeply (for once) about Matthew's earlier words. Leave? Lukas? No. He couldn't. He had only just got here, after all. Though, if he only had the academic year left with him... He ought to get a move on telling the Norwegian he loved him, and cross any other bridges when he got to them...

"Hey, guys, how did you, y'know, confess?" Matthias asked nervously.

"We took an awesome picnic under the evening sun and watched fireworks and made out awesomely until we didn't need to say anything to express our awesome feelings," Gilbert said, earning a slap on the back of his head from Matthew.

"He's lying," Matthew told the Dane, "We had a crush on one another for months but couldn't work up the courage to tell the other until we couldn't take it anymore and met up after school. I think we started speaking at the same time, actually, and then it just went from there..."

"What went from there?" Matthias asked, not seeing what the blondes were getting at. Gilbert smirked and demonstrated.

"Not here, Gilbert!" Matthew said sternly, pushing his boyfriend away. Making out on a ski slope was never a good idea.

Matthias made a small 'oh!' noise, comprehending. It was at that point that the expert skier the three had been discussing swished back to them, a serene expression on his face.

"Mon dieu, Lukas, you are amazing!" Matthew gushed. Lukas just smiled peacefully in return- all stress that he might have had had been taken away through skiing.

"Ja, but you prefer the awesome me, right, Birdie?" Gilbert teased. "'Cause awesome at skiing Lukas may be, he's just not as awesome in bed..."

Matthew, Lukas and Matthias all blushed, Matthew because he didn't particularly want his sex life revealed to the entire world, Lukas because- do you really need me to tell you? It's pretty obvious. Oh, and Matthias because he couldn't keep his thoughts off how flexible the athlete must be...

"Hahaha!" Matthias laughed nervously, trying to divert the conversation. "Matthew's right, you're awesome, Lukas!" He ignored the cries of 'That's my word!' from Gilbert.

"Thank you... I wish I was on proper slopes, though..." Lukas replied dreamily, not even breathless.

All Matthias wanted to do was pull the smaller teenager into an embrace and kiss him senseless. It took almost all of his self-control to restrain himself.

"I give in, I will never be able to keep up with you," Matthew said, not noticing the Dane's struggle with himself. In fact, the only person who did notice was Gilbert, who just gave him an evil snicker.

Once again, Lukas just gave a slight smile in return. Skiing often did that to him; it relaxed him beyond comprehension, like the world's best massage, a memory foam pillow and several glasses of vodka rolled into one. Strange, really- one would think that pulling ridiculously dangerous stunts would stress him out with the amount of calculation he had to do, but he didn't really need to think about that anymore. He just did it, no thinking needed. And he didn't think. He just enjoyed.

The four spent another hour or two at the centre before returning home. Each one was brighter and more 'sparkly', as Gilbert or Matthias might have put it. Gilbert was happy to have made an awesome new friend, Matthew was absolutely enthralled to be able to see the great Lukas Bondevik ski in person, Matthias the same, and Lukas was just happy to have been skiing.

Nothing could ever stop him from skiing.
