I don't own Hetalia. And I don't own either of the OCs mentioned in this chapter, either. They own themselves. By the way, Emilie is as close as I could find to a Danish variant of Emily...
The doorbell sounded throughout the Kohler household. Her son up in his room and her husband at work, it was naturally Emilie Kohler who answered the door.
When she opened the door to a small, tired-looking platinum blonde teenager with faintly red-rimmed eyes and holding about six bags, it was only natural that she was somewhat confused.
"H-hello. Mrs Kohler, am I right? Matthias' mother? I don't believe we've met, but I'm Lukas Bondevik - a friend of your son," Lukas said politely and slightly nervously. He hadn't much of a doubt that this woman was one hundred and ten percent more tolerant of homosexuality than Jemma was, but that didn't mean he wasn't wary.
A flicker of recognition danced across Emilie's face as she invited Lukas in.
"Oh, you're that Lukas - Matthias is always talking about you! Call me Emilie, darling! You're the skier, aren't you?" She said warmly. "I'm sorry I haven't met you before - I'm always working! Are you staying over?"
Lukas blushed at the mention of Matthias talking about him. "No, no - I won't be staying for long. I wouldn't want to impose. Is Matthias upstairs?"
Emilie nodded, her turquoise eyes sparkling with kindness. "Yep, just as usual! If you need me, I'll be in my office. It was great meeting you, Lukas!"
"You too, Mrs - Emilie," Lukas replied, and made his way up to Matthias' room. As he approached it, he heard Danish heavy metal playing and the sound effects of a video game. Matthias was such a typical teenager.
Upon hearing Lukas come up the stairs, Matthias switched off both his game and the music and poked his head round his door, ran towards the smaller teen and threw his arms around him.
"Argh - get off - Matthias, you idiot - I can't breathe - off!"
Matthias removed himself obediently. "Luke!"
Lukas gave him an exasperated look. "It's Lukas, idiot. Not 'Luke'."
The Dane shrugged. "Yeah, yeah. So who was that woman? What happened? Tell me, Lukas - I was worried!"
A stab of guilt hit Lukas. He'd dragged Matthias into this... "Okay. But can we go into your room? These bags are starting to hurt my shoulder..."
It was only then that Matthias noticed all the luggage his boyfriend was carrying. "Shit, sorry, Lukas - just dump those in my room - hang on, why have you got so much stuff?"
Lukas did as he was advised and sat down on the edge of Matthias' bed. He took a deep breath and began to explain.
"I'm... Probably not going to be in Denmark for much longer."
.:.
After Lukas had finished explaining exactly what had happened between him and Jemma, Matthias just sat opposite him, staring in shock.
"So... You're going back to Norway?"
Lukas nodded. "That's the plan, yes."
"But... You haven't finished school. You don't have anywhere to live, you're barely of age!"
"Matthias," Lukas said softly, "I wasn't planning on going to school this academic year at all. I didn't need to. I only did because my father made me. Now he's probably going to disown me, b-but I-I d-don't... I don't care. I'll just go back to Norway. I can stay with Arthur for a while - his parents are rarely home - and I've got enough money to buy my own place at some point."
"But you can't leave! Please, just stay for the rest of the term. It's only a few weeks!" Matthias pleaded.
"Where? Where would I stay?"
"I don't know, but you can't go back to Norway now! What about Emil? What about me?" Matthias was almost wailing now.
"Emil can either come with me or stay - he's finished school for the year. And Matthias, you know I wouldn't leave you unless I really had to, but I'm technically homeless right now."
Suddenly, there was a light tap on the door, and it swung open to reveal Emilie holding a couple of cans of drink and wearing a rather worried expression. Lukas and Matthias exchanged glances. Had she heard anything?
"I brought you both some drinks..."
"Thanks, Mother!" Matthias said, slightly nervously.
Lukas shot him a quick glance, warning him to keep his cool. "Thank you very much," he said calmly, normal expressionless mask back in place.
Emilie looked as if she was about to say something else, but then bit her lip, tucked a few strands of short, curly brown hair behind her ear and turned to go.
She paused in the doorway.
"Lukas... Are you okay?"
Eyes the colour of ice met green-blue. Lukas was baffled by the care on Matthias' mothers' face - she had only just met him, and she was already showing a lot more emotion for him than his soon-to-be-not-guardian ever had.
"Er..." he said unsteadily, taken aback.
"Please excuse me, I just heard the end of what you said - I may have misunderstood..." She said it uncertainly, and it struck Lukas that she was acting more like an older sister to him than the mother of his boyfriend.
He shook his head. "No, you understood correctly..."
Emilie looked shocked and dismayed. "But... How?"
"Well... I kind of ran away. Please don't think badly of me, Mrs Ko- Emilie. My father's girlfriend... Doesn't approve of my sexuality. She's probably going to tell my father, who will no doubt disown me. So, I'm going back to Norway," Lukas said quietly, looking down.
Emilie looked scandalised. "Your family would disown you because of that?! Surely not!"
"They would, Mum - I've met his father's girlfriend, she's horrible!" Matthias exclaimed. "Oh yeah, by the way, Lukas is my boyfriend now."
At the latter, Lukas tensed, while Emilie's eyes lit up. "Really?! Congratulations! Oh, come here, the pair of you!" To the great surprise of the Norwegian, she bounded forward and embraced the two in a tight hug. "Ah, you make such a cute couple!"
Eyes wide, Lukas looked up at Matthias' mother, while the latter hugged her back just as tightly. "You don't mind...?"
"What? No! Of course not! It's wonderful! I'm so happy! But you can't go back to Norway yet - you haven't finished your education!"
"That's what I said!" Matthias agreed.
Lukas sighed. "I don't really have any choice. I don't have anywhere to stay here - back in Norway, I can stay with my friend until I've got a place. I have enough money. As I told Matthias, I wasn't really planning on going to school this year at all."
"But you can stay with us! We'd love to have you!" Emilie cried earnestly, shocked at the way Lukas had been treated by his 'family'.
He shook his head. "I couldn't impose like that."
"Impose? We're inviting you! Alistair will undoubtedly agree with me!"
Seeing Lukas' quizzical look, Matthias explained. "She means my father. He will be especially happy to have you stay when he hears you're a musician. Please, Luke, pleeeeease live with me! Just for the last few weeks of term, please!"
"Well... I suppose I ought to finish my education..." Lukas admitted. "But what do you mean? Is your father a musician?"
"A piano player - whatever you call it - and Mum plays a big violin," Matthias informed him.
"Viola! It's not a 'big violin', sweetie, it's a viola!" Emilie said, clearly insistent on having Matthias know exactly which instrument she played despite obvious disinterest. "And your father is a pianist."
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever. So, please, Luke! Please, please, please, please, please!" Matthias pleaded.
"Okay. But only for the next few weeks. Then I'm going back to Norway," Lukas said firmly.
Both Kohlers cheered and hugged him. Like mother, like son, he supposed.
"You can have the spare room - unless you would rather share with Matthias?" Emilie asked, eyes sparkling.
"Er, I'll take the spare room, thanks."
Emilie nodded excitedly and bounded off to prepare the room. There was no doubting where Matthias got his personality from, and Lukas could tell that without meeting the Dane's father.
Once his mother had left the room, Matthias began pressing little kisses to Lukas' neck, causing the other to bat him off.
"We've only been apart a few hours - what are you, an animal?" He said, but there was no venom in the tone.
"I just really missed you," Matthias replied, his voice muffled.
Lukas tried to stop himself from thinking that was sweet.
He failed.
A/N
Yes, it's me again. It's Friday, I'm back in my own clothes (curse the bugger who invented uniforms), the loud Russian rock music is playing, occasionally broken by a song from Romania or Norway. And another chapter has been posted. I apologise - this didn't really flow... Meh.
So, allow me to tell you a story.
There were once three students, who all took Music. Two of them were exceptional, while the other was more of a writer, to be honest. It occurred to her one day, while in a practice room somewhere, that the other two - Alistair and Emily (and the other's name can be found on her profile) - would make an adorable couple. However, since Alistair was much stronger than her, and since Emily had the ability to completely ruin her hairstyle (and was also much stronger than her - she's a bit of a weakling), she pushed the thoughts to the back of her mind. Then one rainy day, when she was trying to write, she remembered the idea, and decided to incorporate it, since she needed a mother for Matthias, and Emily has a personality rather similar to him. (Just, you know, with the brains of Einstein.) So that is what she did. And to annoy Emily further, she decided to say that a viola is a large violin. (Cue rant from Emily. I know, I know. It is not. Do I look like I care?)
To make it up to her, I will now tell you that she has several hilarious stories, and that if you wanted to read some more Hetalia fanfiction, you should go and check out her account. (IAmAPrustrian. No prizes for guessing her OTP.) Now she has next to no reason for killing me the next time I see her in person. Love you really, darling!
I am sorry about the hideously long author's note - AGAIN. If you bothered to read this, I congratulate you. Have a virtual scone. Don't worry - neither England nor I made them! They're safe! And ohmygosh, when I searched DenNor fanfics by reviews, this was on the second page! And third by follows! I can't believe it - thank you so much!
