Official Disclaimer

The characters of Lieutenant Commander Steven 'Steve' McGarrett, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono Kalakaua, Adam 'Toast' Charles, Governor Patricia Jameson and Detective Meka Hanamoa, do not belong to me in any shape or form. I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.

The character of Detective Sergeant Danielle 'Danni' Williams probably can be considered to be mine by now. Although she was originally based on male Danny, she soon evolved becoming her own person. She has her own background, her own family, her own history and her own distinct personality. This isn't to say that the Danny Williams we all know and love is completely gone, he still emerges through her at times. I like to think of female Danni as what Danny could have been if everything in his life had gone his way. As in full custody of Grace and a decent relationship with his ex.

The character of Grace has also changed slightly due to the change in Danni. Her surname is Taylor as this is her father's surname and was Danni's married name (Danni reverted back to her maiden name when she was divorced). Her parents also are amicable which has also impacted Grace but never fear, she's still the sweetheart we know and love, if anything she's more a sweetheart now.

The character of Supervisory Special Agent Jack O'Connor, Detective Abraham Lee. Doctor Rosie Lange, Kent Deacon, Ross Hall, Sasha Hall, Nicole Hall, Brent Cox and Special Agent Walker Humphries however do belong to me as does any other character who you do not recognise from the show. Please do not use them, or my version of Danni and Grace without first asking for my permission to do so.

Author Note

Welcome to the next chapter

I always find it surprising hard to write fight scenes so hopefully this wasn't too bad!

Please enjoy!

Overall Summary

Fire, fire burning bright, which member of Five-O will you try to claim tonight… When Five-O are tasked with hunting down an arsonist who has graduated to murder, they didn't expect themselves to become potential targets. Now it's a race against time to find the murdered before it's too late.

Chapter Summary

Steve glared at the CSU Agent in front of him, taking in the other man's impassive face and found himself briefly wishing that he was back in the Navy where the chain of command structure actually seemed to mean something to the people who followed it. Though, he grudgingly admitted to himself, the other man was following a chain of command, he was just making it perfectly clear to Steve that he wasn't included in that chain which meant that he wouldn't be getting what he wanted no matter how many times he asked for it.

Danni William's point of view

Danni stood there, hesitating for a second before she breathed out shakily, her resolve strengthening as she listened quietly for any sound which might have indicated to her exactly where Barclay currently was in the house. She had been right with her musings that he would burn one of his houses down, it just hadn't expected him to kill two birds with one stone and kill Sally Clements in the same house, especially as it would directly implicate him in her murder.

It was a solid plan in a way and one which clearly showed that Terry Barclay was done playing games and was now determined merely to finish what he started and to get out of Hawaii, no doubt shedding his identity for a new one, the same way a snake shed its old skin.

A muffled thump caused her eyes to narrow as she brought up a mental map of the house from their search earlier to mind. From the direction that the sound had come from she would guess that both Barclay and his victim were in the living room together. There had only been one doorway into the room from what she could remember which meant that all Danni had to do was keep him occupied and talking long enough to distract him from his overall goal until the others came.

It might take Chin, Kono and Jack a while to get there depending on the distance between the houses they were out and the one she was in but Steve had only been gone for around fifteen minutes, with the way she knew he could drive and the power her Camaro could give him, she estimated that he could be back anywhere between seven to fifteen minutes.

A time period which felt like a lifetime though she knew there was no other option for her. She would just have to hope for the best and that he would reach her in time.

Her mind made up, Danni closed her eyes, muttering a quick prayer under her breathe before she moved, slowly making her way down the staircase, trying to tread as lightly on the steps as she could, knowing that any sound she made at the point could announce to Barclay that he wasn't in the house alone and that she needed to have the element of surprise if any of this was going to work.

Danni reached the bottom of the stairs, her eyes flickering over to the closed front door before she headed past it and down the corridor, ignoring the first doorway she came to and instead moving to the second, noting as she did that it was partially open, sounds emerging from within telling her that she had guessed the right house. She slowly leaned forward and glanced through to crack to take stock of everything.

Barclay had his back to her in the process of tying Sally Clements who was struggling feebly against him, the slight movement indicating that he either hadn't administrated the paralysing drug yet which was so integral to his signature or it didn't work on suspect as quickly as they had been estimating.

Either way she was out of time and had to act now, if she didn't then Sally Clements would be killed in front of her and her children left motherless.

Danni breathed out silently as she slipped through the gap and brought her gun up, her eyes flickering briefly towards Sally before she focused her attention back on Barclay and spoke, her voice coming out cool and steady.

"Terry Barclay, this is the Governor's task force, turn around slowly with your arms above your head."

The man froze in his task for a split second before he reached down and lightly patted his hand against Sally's cheek, ignoring the frightened noise she made at the simple action before he straightened and turned on the spot to face Danni directly.

He was a tall man, around the same height and build as Steve with dark red hair and dark brown eyes. He would probably have been considered good looking by most people which would certainly explain how he had made initial contact with some of his victims. Most women were flattered when a good-looking man paid attention to them.

"Well, if it isn't Detective Williams, the Queen of the Governor's taskforce." He said slowly, a wide smile coming to his face as he brought his hands together in a series of slow mocking claps. "I should congratulate you on managing to do what has taken Detective Lee several months to do. You've found me."

"So, we did." Danni responded, her hands tightening on the gun, her finger already on the trigger read to pull if the situation required it.

"And yet where is the rest of your team? I would have thought they would have joined you in here by now. Don't tell me Detective that your guard dog has left her here alone?" Barclay taunted as his smile widened further into a grin which failed to meet his cold eyes. "This is much better than even I had hoped or dreamed for. I had been hoping that either you and Officer Kalakaua would be the one who found me eventually but I never quite expected for the King and Commander to leave his new most prized possession alone like this for me to enjoy and have fun with. I should send him a fruit basket when all of this is done as a thank you for the gift, or maybe I'll wrap your body up and he can have what is left of you tied up with a bow of his favourite colour."

"It's over Barclay, I want you to get down on your knees with your hands interlocked behind your head." Danni stated, ignoring everything which he was saying to her. The other man was clearly trying his best to get into her head, trying to keep her off balance with his comments and insinuations. Something which she wouldn't allow to happen.

Barclay remained standing, tilting his head from one side to the other as though he was considering her request carefully in his mind, Danni kept her eyes fixed on him, not willing to look away even to glance towards the victim. She had the feeling that the man in front of her was merely waiting for the opportunity to strike.

"I'm afraid that I'm going to have to decline your request Detective. I'm not one who really enjoys being on the floor you see. I doubt there is much you can do about it either, especially as you're clearly here without any back up to help you so…" His voice trailed off as he shrugged almost casually before his stance suddenly changed and he charged directly at her.

Danni had enough time to get a shot off, hitting him in the shoulder as she twisted away from hm but it didn't even slow him down, he averted his course, grabbing her arm in a rough hold while his other fist swung towards her head, catching her around the temple area with a blow which stunned her, causing her to stumble back as her hand loosened its grip around her gun sending it to the floor. She blinked frantically, her vision focusing just in time to allow her to wrench her arm out of his hold, both coming up to fend off another hard and fast blow from him as she kicked out, catching him directly in his knee. He roared in pain and rage as it buckled, giving her a chance to scramble out of his range for a split moment, her eyes frantically scanning him looking for any potential weaknesses other than the knee she had just damaged.

He was clearly stronger than she was and although she could tell she was faster and more agile, his longer reach would make it more difficult for her to avoid him in the relatively cramp room. There was no sign of any real finesse in his fighting style indicating that he was an all-out brawler.

Her head was already ringing from the blow he had gotten in, a trail of warmth sliding slowly down her face telling her without looking that the ring he was wearing had managed to cut her and she was now bleeding from it.

"Come on Detective, surely there's no reason that the two of us need fight one another. If you give into me now then I can make your end extremely quick and painless, you wouldn't even feel a thing. You won't get a better offer then that." He said sounding almost cheerful for a moment, the tone making her skin crawl.

"Thar's generous of you but I think I'll take my chances as they are." She replied back noting that he was standing near her gun making it impossible for her to get to it but he also was making no effort to pick it up himself indicating that he even hadn't seen it or he felt as though he didn't need any additional help when it came to this fight between them.

He laughed at her comment, the sound sending a shiver down her spine.

"Well you certainly are a tough one, I'll give you that. It's almost a shame that I have to kill you here and now but unfortunately, I do, you understand why I have to right? How else can I send a direct message to your Commander and the other members of your team if I don't. They need to realise what happens when they stick their nose into things which don't concern them. I had a good thing going here until you interfered and now… well… now it's all up in flames isn't it, pardon the pun." He remarked, his tone coming across as reasonable as though he truly believed every word which he was saying to her and wanted to make sure she understood as well.

"You killing me wouldn't stop them from doing their jobs, if anything it would make them all the more determined to find you and to throw you in jail where you clearly belong." Danni retorted, her eyes scanning around her for anything in the room which she could use as a weapon to defend herself with. Her gaze landed on the fireplace where Sally Clements was in front of, a small flicker of hope growing in her chest as she slowly began edging towards Sally and the fireplace, praying that her slight movements wouldn't bring any attention towards the terrified woman.

"Oh, but I think it would." He replied. "I've been watching you and your team over the last couple of days and it's been very interesting gathering up the Intel. I almost didn't believe it when I found out that you had been an active unit for under two weeks only. You've already built up quite the connection between each other especially the Commander and you, the newly crowned King and Queen of the taskforce. I have the strong suspicion that if I killed you and took you out of the equation then your Commander would run straight back to the Navy to lick his wounds, your death would be the final straw and the one which breaks him and as a result your team would be disbanded." He told her, the comment causing her eyes to narrow.

"That's where you're wrong and it just shows that you can spend all the time you want watching people; you can think that you know them but you don't." She told him, stopping just in front of the fireplace where Sally was, she took a step back, waiting until he glanced away from her for a moment before she picked up one of the pokers, hiding it behind her back.

"I guess we'll just have to see which one of us is right, or rather I'll have to see since you won't be seeing anything anymore." He replied, moving towards her quickly again. Danni moved away from Sally and the fireplace, trying to keep his attention fixed on her.

"Why don't you tell me which came first for you, was it the fire or was it the murder."

He lunged at her, ignoring her question, clearly coming to the decision that the time for them talking had now passed. Danni jumped back, hissing when his blunt fingernails ripped down the soft skin of her forearm, breaking the skin though she made herself ignore the impulse to cover the wound instead stepping swiftly to the right and swung out with the poker, hitting him directly in the knee again, this time it gave way giving her the chance to swing it again and smash it against his head.

He grunted at the impact, before lunging forward and snagging her ankle with his outstretched hand before she had the chance to move back and using it, he yanked her down.

She hit the ground hard, twisting on the spot so she was facing him and kicked out, hitting him square in the face. She struggled out of his hold, scooting along the ground trying to come to her feet when his full weight crashed down on her back, sending her back down to the wooden floorboards with a cry of pain she couldn't hold in.

"Now that's a pretty little sound Detective." He murmured softly in her ear before he flipped her around so she was on her back, he reached out and grabbed the poker she had been using against him and held it over her throat. Danni brought her hands up, grabbing at it and tried to push it away but Barclay's strength was far greater than her own, the blood from his head wound dripped down onto the metal bar of the poker making it slippery for her to grip as well. "Well I won't deny that this has certainly been fun but I have work to continue doing and a theory to prove. As much as I want to continue having fun with you, it's time to get on with the job which means killing you. I'll place you next to Sally, at least you can keep her company while she burns alive. It's a shame that I can't watch the results and your team's reactions but at least I can watch the light draining out from your pretty eyes, that will keep me company through some lonely nights." He remarked with a grin and a wink at her.

Danni struggled harder but she couldn't shift him. The increasing pain from her head was making it hard to focus and fight though she knew she had to. She had to think of Grace.

"Any last requests?" He asked her pleasantly as he pressed down further, the poker pressing against her throat making words almost impossible, "None at all? Oh well I'll be sure to make something up to tell your team. Maybe I should tell them how you called out for help and none of them came. That should hurt them." He commented thoughtfully.

"Go to hell asshole" She managed to rasp out, using the last of her energy to glare up at him, still struggling when suddenly there was a cry of rage followed by Barclay's weight disappearing from where he had been straddling her, leaving her holding onto the poker.

She lay on the floor for a moment, gasping for air before she forced herself to throw the poker to the side of the room and slowly roll around to her front, bringing her head up. She felt her eyes widen when she realised that Barclay was now engaged in a fight against Steve, a fight he was losing extremely badly from what she could see. Steve countered every move the red headed man made before he struck, every move fuelled by an anger which she hadn't seen from him before but which she had suspected had been brewing beneath the surface of her partner for some time now. She wanted to call out to him, to warn him against going too far but she couldn't force the words out from her throat.

Danni slowly began pulling herself across the floor towards Sally who was watching the ongoing fight with large eyes before Danni came to a stop beside her and came up to her knees, ignoring the way the room spun around her before she spoke.

"You're going to be okay Sally." She promised huskily, quickly finding the end of the sticky tape which he had used to bind the other woman's wrists and unwrapped it after a few fumbled attempts. "Can you untie your own feet?" She asked Sally who shot her a frightened look before quickly nodding.

"I… I can" She said shakily.

Danni looked back at the ongoing fight, unsurprised to see that Barclay was now on the floor, curled into a ball cradling what look to be a broke wrist to his chest.

"Steve, that's enough." Danni called out, pushing herself unsteadily to her feet, one hand flung out to the side of her as though to aid her balance more. "He's finished, we need to arrest him, not kill him, if we kill him then his victims will never get the justice that they deserve."

Steve looked towards her, rage darkening his eyes though all he did was nod at her, his jaw clenching as he turned back to Barclay and yanked his arms, including the broken one, behind his back and cuffed him, ignoring the scream of pain that ripped out of the other man at the treatment.

"HPD"

"GOVERNOR'S TASKFORCE"

Danni blinked as the door to the living room was flung open revealing a SWAT team being left by Chin and Kono with Jack just behind them. Her eyes dropped briefly to their weapons, her eyebrow rising when she realised that Chin at least had a shotgun indicating they had bought the big weapons with them.

"Jesus Danni." Kono said, skirting around Barclay and heading straight over to Danni, her hand coming out and wrapping gently around Danni's upper arm as concerned dark brown eyes gave her a look over. "You look awful, what happened? Are you okay?" She demanded, the questions causing Danni to laugh slightly though she abruptly stopped when her throat gave a stab of pain.

"I'm fine" She assured the younger woman. "Just a little beat up from my fight with Barclay but it's nothing to be concerned over. Could you take care of Sally, she was Barclay's last intended victim, he was going to leave her to be burned alive in the house from what he was saying."

Kono looked torn before she nodded once and moved over to Sally, helping the other woman to her feet before leading her out of the room.

Danni breathed out a sigh of relief as she watched Jack and Steve drag Barclay up to his feet and followed them out of the room with two members of the SWAT team going with them, their guns pinned on Barclay ready to shoot the other man if he tried anything.

"You okay?"

Danni blinked at the question, looking at Chin who had appeared at her side and gave him a wry smile.

"It's nothing that a couple of painkillers couldn't solve." She responded. "I was in his study upstairs when he arrived with Sally Clements. He has at least twenty files up there of his targets, we'll have to go through them and see if any of them are outstanding so we inform their families that we've found their loved ones murderer."

"I thought he only started murdering when he arrived in Hawaii?" Chin asked as he wrapped his arm around her waist and gently gripped the arm closest to him and placed it around his shoulder before he began leading them out of the room.

"Chin I told you I'm okay" She told him, looking towards him in time to see him tilt his own head towards her and give her a soft smile.

"Humour me here Danni okay?" He asked, his tone serious.

Danni searched his eyes for a moment before she sighed.

"Fine, if it gives you peace of mind then I'll get checked out." She stated before changing the subject to the previous one. "As for whether he started murdering when he got here, well I thought that was the case but after seeing all those files I'm no longer sure. I'm beginning to think he was caught in a patter he couldn't break free of. Maybe he always started with just the fires and would eventually evolve to murder which then caused him to have to get up and start again, somewhere fresh." She remarked, wincing when her ankle gave a throb.

"We'll soon find out when we start going through them." Chin assured her as they came to a stop beside one of the ambulances. He passed her over to the waiting EMT who looked familiar to Danni. She blinked at her before suddenly smiling.

"Hey Hazel, it's good to see you, looks like I'm the one who needs fixing up this time rather than my partner." She remarked wryly before she focused her attention back to Chin who was still standing beside her. "Could you go and get those files and grab my bag as well please?" She asked the older man, smiling when he nodded at her.

"I'll take care of them both." He promised her with a smile of his own before he turned and left Danni alone with Hazel who smiled at her.

"Let's get you fixed up Danni, it sounds to me like you've still got a long day ahead of you." She commented as she sat Danni down on the gurney inside of the ambulance, closing the doors behind them to give them some privacy.

Danni glanced up and nodded, a slight smile coming to her face as she responded.

"You have no idea."
