Chapter 28: Raffle~

Gale sat down at one of the picnic benches directly across from one of the raffle tables. They were getting ready to draw for winners. Effie stood between the prize tables, a microphone in her hand. He didn't know how she could be using anything electronic in a park shelter, but apparently they had plugs somewhere.

Gale discreetly glanced around him for Katniss. He still didn't see her. God, he felt so terrible. He was such a douchebag. He wouldn't blame her if she never wanted to see him again, and to be honest, with the way he was feeling right now, he probably wouldn't bother to try and go against her wishes and push through to patch things up either. He deserved it. Every bit.

He sighed silently, trying feebly to contain the weight of depression and self-loathing that currently hung over him as Prim and Rory trotted up to him.

"Hey, Gale. Did you find anything?" Prim asked brightly as she and Rory sat down beside him.

He shook his head. "No, not really. But I decided to try my luck anyway."

Her eyes lit up, curiosity piqued. "Really? With what?"

"That thing over there," Gale replied, pointing to the hunting knife that lay on the table in front of them.

"Oooh, nice choice. Is it for Katniss?" She asked.

His eyebrows came together.

How did she...?

"Uh...yeah. Yeah, it is."

Prim puckered her lips. "Ooooh, you must have messed up big time."

God-freaking-dammit, was it that obvious?

Gale chuckled at the ridiculousness of it all. "Uhm...haha yeah. Yeah, I- I did."

"Well try not to worry about it. I know her; no matter how mad you make her at you, she'll always forgive you."

The young Everdeen spoke with such confidence and sureness that the cloud that hung heavy over Gale's head momentarily dissipated, and for that he was grateful. It was strange how much wiser little kids could be sometimes.

"Thanks, Prim, but I don't think it's gonna be like that this time."

"Sure it will. You'll see."

Not wanting to disappoint her, Gale simply looked at her and gave her a heartwarming smile.

Prim leaned in to whisper in his ear. "Now watch me win this vase."

Head coming up from the cradle of his hands, Gale followed her finger to the object she was referring to. It was a vase, alright. And a pretty one, at that. It was small, meant for maybe a flower or two, with pale pink roses painted on it. There were a lot of tickets in for it, too.

He was honestly surprised. Not in her tastes, but in her interests. He would have thought that she would be more in favor of one of the toys, or that hoola-hoop he saw back there. He was constantly surprised at just how grown up Prim acted sometimes.

She was just like her sister.

Effie began the announcements, her shrill voice showing through ten times as much with the use of her microphone. "Okay, we're going to be starting the raffle! As always, We'll start with the table on the left and go from there."

She walked over to a random object on the table. "Okay, first up, this Precious Moments vase..."

Gale scoffed playfully at the little blonde sitting next to him. "Pfft. Please. Your name's only been in there once. They're not gonna pick you."

Effie swiped out a ticket.

"Primrose Everdeen!" She called, holding the ticket high as she scanned the crowd.

Gale's jaw dropped.

He couldn't believe it. There was no freakin' way!

Prim turned to him, her eyes wide in mock surprise, hand held up to her mouth in a fake gasp. She got up from her seat and skipped over to Effie, graciously accepting her newly claimed vase. Gale grumbled as she sat back down.

"Whatever..."

Prim stuck her tongue out at him in response. "Told ya."

Effie moved on.

"Up next, is this prized hunting knife..."

Gale gulped. No, swallowed. Hard. Whatever. He watched in mild dread as the pink-clad woman moved towards the object that held his interest. There were even more tickets in for that little knife than there were for Prim's vase, and that was saying something.

He watched in anticipation as Effie's hand delved into the little plastic box that held the tickets, his ticket.

...Hopefully.

The Trinket woman swirled her hand around in the box before snatching up a ticket and holding it up to her face to read.

He swallowed again. This was it. This was the one moment that could either make or break his friendship with Katniss. If he didn't get that knife...

All thoughts drifted away into nothingness as Effie opened her mouth.

"And the winner is..."

A/N: Eek! Cliffhanger, I know. But it isn't pointless! In fact, it's VERY important, because I need your help! I have a couple different ideas for how this story should go (it won't affect the ending, but it will affect how Gale and Katniss get back together).

SO, who should win the raffle?

A.) Gale

B.) Katniss

C.) Cato

Or D.) Some random person?

Please do leave a review, it'll help loads XD

Also, did you notice what I did back there? With Prim? And her name only being in there once? Eh? Eh? *nudges ribs* lol :DD

Anyway, my family reunion is tomorrow. I think it'll be a great one, one of the best :D So pretty please leave lots of reviews for me, so my face can light up like a 1,000 volt Christmas Tree by Monday morning, lol X3 Er, still, don't feel pressured. I totally understand if you don't wanna review :)

'Til next time!
