I'm glad you all are happy that Elphaba's awake, but we're not out of the woods just yet. Also, we are coming to the close of the story.

Dr. Montas came running into the room, hearing the prince's screaming. "Master Tigulaar, what is the matter?"

"It's Elphaba! She's awake. She woke up! She's alive!" Fiyero smiled.

The doctor hurried over to the green girl and examined her. "You're right. Miss Elphaba is awake."

Nessa, Boq, Galinda and Frex hurried into the room. "Fifi, what's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong. In fact, quite the opposite. Elphaba's awake," Fiyero smiled, looking down on the green girl.

"She's come out of the coma. She's just sleeping. Believe it or not, being in a coma can be very tiring," Dr. Montas smiled softly.

"So, she's alright?" Nessa asked hopefully.

"We won't know that until she wakes up. She may have made it through the coma, but we still have to see if it left any… lasting effects on her."

"Meaning?"

"Anything, really. Memory loss, permanent brain damage, she could be paralyzed; anything could happen."

"But… she'll live?" Frex asked.

"She will," Dr. Montas smiled.

"Thank Oz!" Galinda exclaimed, walking over to her best friend and gently wrapping her arms around her. "Don't you ever scare us like that again, Elphie. Understand?"

Everyone cracked a small smile.

"We should let Miss Elphaba rest now. I would like to run more tests on her," Dr. Montas said, gently prying the blonde from the green girl.

Obeying, Galinda gave Elphaba one final squeeze before leaving, everyone else close behind her.

"You have some very good friends there, Miss Elphaba," Dr. Montas smiled, gently patting Elphaba's hand. "Some very good friends, indeed."

"Hi, Fae," Fiyero smiled, walking into the room later that evening.

Elphaba stirred and slowly opened her eyes and turned her head towards Fiyero. "Y-Yero?" she whispered hoarsely.

"It's me," Fiyero confirmed, sitting on the edge of the bed. "How are you feeling?"

"Tired," Elphaba whispered. "How… how long was I…"

"Two and a half weeks. We weren't sure if you were going to make it." Fiyero gently took her hand. "You gave us quite a scare, Fae."

"I… I'm sorry."

"Don't be. It's not your fault."

The couple stayed silent for a few moments.

"I'll let you get some rest, now," Fiyero said, standing up to leave.

"No, Yero! Stay. Please," Elphaba begged, pulling him back.

Smiling, Fiyero sat back down. Elphaba smiled as she felt Fiyero's hand in hers. She felt her eyelids growing heavy and she fought to keep them open.

"I'll stay. I won't go anywhere," Fiyero smiled, kissing her forehead.

Elphaba nodded sleepily and drifted off into a deep sleep.

A quick knock and the door opened, revealing Nessa.

"How is she?" Nessa asked, wheeling into the room.

"Fine. Sleepy, but fine," Fiyero smiled, looking at slumbering green girl.

Nessa nodded, smiling at her sister. "That's good. At least she's alright."

A silence past between them, the only sound coming from Elphaba's steady breathing.

"You don't think…" Nessa whispered.

"What?" Fiyero asked.

"N… Nothing."

"No, tell me. Something's bothering you, Nessa," Fiyero said, looking up at the younger Thropp, his eyes filled with concern.

"It's just that… about what the doctor said…"

"Everything will be fine. She's responsive and knows who we are."

"I know. But you heard what he said."

"He said that he had to run a few more tests, but so far, Fae is fine."

Nessa nodded. "I'm such a pessimist."

"No. You're just worried. And it's okay to be," Fiyero smiled, laying a comforting hand on the brunette's shoulder.

"Thanks, Fiyero," Nessa smiled.

Elphaba muttered something in her sleep. Fiyero and Nessa turned, noticing the grimace on her face.

"Fae," Fiyero whispered.

"No!" Elphaba shouted, bolting up in her sleep, her sightless eyes hazed over. "No… no… no!"

"Fae, it's alright, sweetheart," Fiyero whispered, pulling Elphaba closer to him.

Elphaba thrashed out of Fiyero's arms, crying. "No! Fiyero!"

"Shh. It's okay," Fiyero whispered, pulling her back.

"Fiyero, don't leave me! Please!" Elphaba shouted.

"Fae, you're having a nightmare. Wake up." Fiyero held her close and rocked her in his arms.

With one final sob, Elphaba collapsed in Fiyero's arms. Nessa was staring at her sister with wide eyes, trying to process what had happened.

"F… Fiyero?" Elphaba whispered, slowly opening her eyes.

Fiyero looked down at Elphaba and smiled softly, seeing her beautiful, chocolate eyes. "I'm right here."

Elphaba slowly lifted her hand to Fiyero's face. "P-Please don't go."

"I won't, Fae. You were just having a bad dream."

"It felt so real."

"I know," Fiyero said, stroking her hair.

"Wh-Where's Nessie?"

"I'm right here, Fabala," Nessa smiled, taking her sister's hand.

Elphaba smiled as she felt her sister's soft skin against hers. Smiling, she leaned her head against Fiyero's chest, listening to the sound of his breathing.

"Are you hungry, Fae?" Fiyero asked, gently rocking Elphaba in his arms.

Elphaba nodded. "A little."

"I'll get you something."

"No, stay. Please," Elphaba said, clinging even tighter to her boyfriend.

"I'll go," Nessa volunteered.

"Hey! Anyone hungry?" Galinda smiled, opening the door and peaking her head inside.

"Glin, perfect timing," Fiyero smiled.

Galinda stepped into the room and Boq came in after her, a picnic basket in his hands.

"A picnic basket?" Nessa frowned in confusion.

"It's been a while since we've had one," Galinda said, pulling up chairs for herself and Boq.

Fiyero helped Elphaba into a sitting position and handed her a ham sandwich from the basket.

"Thank you," Elphaba whispered, smiling, glad that she was together with her friends.

"How long do I have to stay here?" Elphaba whined.

"You're still weak," Fiyero said, kissing her forehead.

"Am not! It's been three days!"

"They're still running those test results," Nessa quipped, patting her sister's hand, knowing she was never one for patience.

"It's taking them too long!"

"You know, Elphie," Galinda smiled, sitting next to her friend. "You're my bestest friend. You're kind, lovable, friendly, smart, compassionate…"

"Where is this going?" Elphaba interrupted.

"But please notice how I didn't add 'patient' to that list."

Elphaba frowned and, reaching out her hand, poked Galinda in the side, causing the blonde to shriek as she fell off the bed.

"Ow," she whispered, rubbing her sore bottom. "Thanks a lot, Elphie."

"No problem," Elphaba smirked.

"Oz." Galinda gave the younger Thropp an exasperated look.

"Don't look at me," Nessa said, looking up at Boq.

"Then why are you looking at me? She's your sister," Boq pointed out.

"You're no help."

"I'm right here, you know," Elphaba frowned.

Fiyero chuckled and kissed her forehead. "We know. Why don't you get some sleep?"

"Yero, I'm not tired."

"Then why are you yawning?"

"I'm… not… yawning," Elphaba yawned.

"I forgot to add 'stubborn' to the list," Galinda said.

Elphaba stuck out her tongue in Galinda's direction. "I'm not tired."

"I'll wake you up if something interesting happens," Fiyero smiled.

Elphaba rolled her eyes. "Okay," she caved, allowing Fiyero to help her lay down.

"Good girl," Fiyero smiled, lightly tapping her nose.

Elphaba swatted his hand away and closed her eyes.

"At least we're taking a break from rib-jabbing," Fiyero smiled.

"Don't get too used to that," Elphaba muttered.

"Of course, Sleeping Beauty."

Elphaba opened one eye and frowned. Huffing, she turned away from Fiyero and went back to sleep.

A knock and the door opened, revealing Dr. Montas and Frex.

"Father!" Nessa smiled as her father knelt down to give her a hug.

"Hello, Nessa," Frex smiled, kissing her forehead.

"How is Miss Elphaba doing?" Dr. Montas asked, checking Elphaba's pulse.

"We just got her to take a little nap," Fiyero said.

Elphaba hummed in her sleep and Fiyero kissed her forehead.

"I see. While I understand the importance of Miss Elphaba getting her rest right now, I have the latest test results."

"Finally!" Elphaba huffed, opening her eyes and pushing herself up.

"I knew you weren't really asleep," Fiyero said, playfully shaking his head.

"You know me so well," Elphaba smirked.

"Well, Miss Elphaba, you had a very serious case of clefyd anhysbys," Dr. Montas began, reading off of his clipboard.

Elphaba frowned, listening to the doctor's words. "What does that mean?"

"We didn't know what you had. Which means we didn't know how to treat it. We used a special medicine that we believed would work, but we didn't know how it would affect you."

"Oh."

"Well, we just finished running the test on your tissue and blood, and…"

"Elphie's paralyzed!?" Galinda all but shrieked.

"A little bit louder, Glin. I don't think they heard you on the moon," Elphaba said dryly.

"Sorry," Galinda whispered.

"He didn't even say that," Fiyero frowned.

"Go on," Galinda said, ignoring Fiyero and nodding at Dr. Montas.

"Anyway… the results came back and…"

"What is it?" Nessa asked.

"The medicine seemed to have attacked her uterine lining, weakening it dramatically."

"What does that mean?" Fiyero asked, though he already knew the answer.

"There is a very high chance that Miss Elphaba will never be able to have children."
