I wasn't planing to post this chapter yet, but after receiving several reviews in one week I just had to. So thanks for the love K.C.M.O, ronniieroxxx, Insanity294, Aimee269 and Rio's Desire.
The next few chapters are actually short because I decided to split this part into 3 chapters rather than 2.
You might find this chapter kinda boring, but I still hope you enjoy!
Waking up to face a new day, Nicara's body felt sore, not painful, but bruised. Thankfully the sun was shining today, ray's of light beaming through the window, brightening not only the room , but also her mood. She stretched her arms out, relaxing her muscles, only to realize Grimmjow was no longer in the bed. The spot beside her was cold; he must have been gone for a while, otherwise it would still be warm.
Panic set through Nicara. When did he leave? Where did he go? Quickly, She bolted across the hall to Grimmjow's room, only to find it empty. Next she checked the living room to see if he was loitering on the couch or watching TV. He wasn't there either.
Nicara's breathing started to get heavy. She walked into the kitchen, and drank a glass of water, clearing her mind. He had to be here somewhere, at least she hoped. That's when she heard a bark coming from outside. She looked through the window and saw Ari running around the backyard, ball in mouth.
"Ari?" she questioned out loud, more to herself than anyone.
Slowly, she walked to the back door, slipped on a pair of flip flops, and stepped outside into the sunlight.
There, sitting in the middle of the grass, was Grimmjow. He looked calm and relaxed. Nothing like the night before. Even when Ari came back with a slobbery ball, he threw it to the opposite end of the yard. Nicara smiled, this was the first time she had actually seen the two getting along.
She set foot on the grass, about to sneak up on him, but he must've heard her, for he turned around. "You finally woke up?"
"Yeah, but what do you mean by finally?" she asked, walking forward, plotting herself in the patch of grass beside him.
"Haven't you looked at the time?"
She paused for a second. "No..." I've been too busy looking for you.
"It's fuckin' three in the afternoon!"
Well that made sense. "Oh, no wonder why it's so bright," she muttered sheepishly.
"You slept though the whole morning and your dog kept whining, it made me check that you weren't dead or somethin', " he explained, toying with a piece of grass.
"Why didn't you wake me up?"
Grimmjow shrugged. "I figured you needed the sleep, you know, because of what happened last night."
The reminder of last night's incident automatically brought down Nicara's mood. At the same time, a cloud floated overhead, creating a large shadow on the yard. Then she remembered why she was so anxious to find Grimmjow. "You didn't go back to ...hurt them, did you?"
He stiffened, but gradually relaxed. "No, I didn't kill the bastards Shou and Ken, but I gave them a piece of my mind."
"So they're alive and breathing?" she questioned, just to make sure.
"They'll live," he bluntly stated.
Nicara took a deep breath before asking, "Why, why would you go so far?"
Last night was the first time she'd seen Grimmjow so bloodthirsty. When he fought hollows he was much more calm. Usually, he'd have an excited grin; however, last night was more of a murderous glare. She knew he wasn't a gentle, caring person, for she had been told countless stories of him. He kidnapped Orihime, lost his arm, and battled Ichigo. But after living with him for the past couple months, he didn't seem that bad.
When Grimmjow moved in, the shinigami told her to be careful around him. Not to anger him because he would become destructive. At first, He had a ruff exterior that made him unapproachable: rude, hot-headed, unfriendly. However, once you accepted and looked past that side of him, his softer, sweeter traits would surface. He's still be blunt, something that would never change, but gruffly cooperate or lend a hand.
"Cause they deserved it."
Nicara shook her head, not satisfied with Grimmjow's answer. "Is that really the reason?"
Suddenly Nicara found herself on her back, Grimmjow on top, pinning her to the ground. "Those bastards had it coming!" he growled. "They wanted to play hard ball, so I gave them what they deserved!"
"I know they're bad people, but you can't just go around killing them!"
Grimmjow gave a frustrated grunt before muttering, "I knew you wouldn't understand."
Next, he immediately stood up and stormed back into the house.
What's his problem? Nonetheless, Nicara quickly followed.
"I'm going," he said, heading out the front door.
"Why?"
"To get away from you." Nicara felt taken aback by his words. Did she do something wrong? "You're gettin' on my nerves okay? I just wanna clear my head and get away from you for a couple days."
"Oh...See you in a few days, I guess?"
"Yeah, bye," he whispered, shutting the door behind him.
Nicara didn't know why, but with Grimmjow gone made her heart feel lonely. Ever since he started living with her, the days went by so much quicker. It wasn't just work and school, but also training, learning about soul society, shinigamis and hollows. she never thought there was an entirely different world out there. Nicara had to admit, she enjoyed his presence. Even with the constant bickering/fighting, she never got tired of coming home to find Ari and Grimmjow fighting over the best seat on the couch.
Sitting at the kitchen table, Nicara sighed, looking from her homework to the window. It had already been two whole days since she last saw Grimmjow. She was surprised he hadn't come home yet. Without him around it felt so boring, everything seemed dull. Even Ari was lazily pacing around the house, trying to find something to do. She missed him, and she was pretty sure Ari did too, even if he wasn't going to admit it. She always thought Grimmjow was just an extra hassle around the house, but now that he Is gone, she realized she secretly enjoyed his company.
Nicara thought she would've at least seen Grimmjow at school today, but he didn't show up, neither did Toshiro, Rangiku and Rengi. She asked Ichigo where they went, he just told her they had to deal with some emergency in soul society. She was about to ask him about Grimmjow, but decided not to. Him and Ichigo weren't technically even friends, and knowing Grimmjow he would never tell Kurosaki where he went.
She texted him a couple times, asking if he was okay, and when he was coming back. Ari had been sleeping in the bedroom since he left, so she would need to wash the bed sheets before he got back. He never replied, however, which caused Nicara to worry. She wanted to call him, but was that really necessary? She wasn't his mom, or girlfriend. What reason did she have to check up on him? He was a grown man, or you can say arrancar, perfectly capable of protecting himself.
Nicara eventually convinced herself that everything was alright. Guys needed space, so that's what she was going to give him. He was like a cat after all, wandering around, but never forgetting the way home. He'd eventually come back when he feels like it.
Another two days passed, and there was still no sign of Grimmjow. None of the 'shinigami's' were back either, and now Ichigo was gone too. There must have been something going on. Orihime was still here, but she wasn't her usual cheery self. Her face looked upset and a little worried. So right after class ended, she went and talked to the orange head.
"Orihime, is there something wrong? You look upset." Orihime nodded, but dragged Nicara to the roof top before telling her the important news.
"I'm not suppose to tell you this, Nicara-chan, but I think you have the right to know. Grimmjow-kun, he," she stuttered," he's going to die. His death trial is tomorrow."
"What!?" she exclaimed. "How could this happen?"
"Soul society found out he almost killed two humans."
"Shou and Ken," Nicara muttered, eye's flickering down.
"You know who they were?"
"Yeah, one of them drugged me, and the other tried to rape me. Grimmjow saved me, but he went overboard."
Orihime's face lightened up. "So he was only protecting you? That's good. If we explain this to soul society what happened, they might give Grimmjow another chance." Orihime grabbed Nicara's hand dragging her to their next destination.
"I can't believe he didn't even say goodbye," Nicara mumbled sadly to herself. She thought Grimmjow had some sort of feelings for her, so it wouldn't have hurt for him to say a proper goodbye. Even if he sucked at sappy moments, she didn't think he'd just leave and pretend that he was never in her life.
Orihime didn't seem to hear her, she continued pulling her along. "Let's hurry and find Kurosaki-kun to help us."
They went to Ichigo's house first, but he wasn't back yet, so Orihime suggested they head over to the Urahara shop.
"The candy store?" Nicara questioned as she followed Orihime. "What's there?"
"The owner, Kisuke Urahara, is a shinigami, he can probably help us."
"He's a shinigami too?" She said, with a skeptical face. "I'm starting to question who's even human anymore."
It didn't take long before they arrived at the shop. Before they even walked into the store, the two young ladies were greeted by none other than Urahara himself.
"Why hello there Orihime-chan, how are you?"
"I'm good Urahara sir, how bout' you?" she asked. Instead of replying, he turned his attention towards Nicara.
"Oh, and you brought a friend, you must be Nicara, correct?"
She raised a brow with suspicion. "How'd you know?"
"I had a feeling you two were coming." Stepping to the side, he opened the door nice and wide, ushering Orihime and Nicara to come in. "Why don't we bring our discussion inside, shall we?"
Nicara gave Orihime an uneasy look; unsure whether to trust the man or not. She had just met this shinigami, and he already knew her name and the reason they came. Orihime took one of her hands and gave it a reassuring squeeze. Nicara nodded, relaxing her tensed shoulders immediately.
"Is Kurosaki-kun back yet?" Orhime asked, as they walked through a hallway.
"Yup, he just got back, we were about to start a discussion, but I wanted to wait for you two ladies."
Urahara lead them to the dining room where Ichigo and a few other's were already seated around a rectangular table. Orihime and Nicara quickly sat down in the nearest seat, while Urahara took his place at the very end.
"So, Kurosaki, what happened in Soul Society today?"
Ichigo sighed. "They weren't happy. They decided to go on with the execution at noon tomorrow. And afterwards Grimmjow's body will be dissected by Captain Mayuri."
Nicara made a disgusted face. "That's awful, isn't there any way we could stop this?"
"I already tried." Ichigo explained. " Since the beginning, Soul society was wary on letting Grimmjow live, and now that he almost killed two humans, they have all the reason to kill him."
"There has to be a way! He can't just die. Please, I've got to see him one last time."
The room went silent, but you could tell everyone's brains were churning.
"Urahara?" Ichigo spoke up, "Is there a way we can get into Sereti and save Grimmjow?"
He nodded his head. "I've got a couple ideas."
"Good, let's hear them."
