Sorry for my absence. I thought I would have more time to write this summer, but as always, I kind of overloaded myself. I'm finishing up three jobs, four classes, and two major papers this summer. But I finally took some time out to try and write a few chapters, just in case I fall behind again. Thanks for your patience and I promise to try harder to update my stories faster. J
"That must've been the trigger," Kikyo said. "Once she started losing her hair from the chemo she must've snapped."
"Shippo, we need an address," Sesshomaru said.
"Give me a minute boss, I'm typing as fast as I can," Shippo responded. After a few tense seconds he announced, "Got it! I just sent it to you guys!"
Sesshomaru glanced at the address as he led the team out of the room. "Let's go!" He stopped in front of the captain's office. "Captain, we have a suspect and an address."
Captain Hernandez nodded and started making some calls. "I'll send some men with you."
The team was quick to leave the station and get on the road. The address had them leave the city of San Francisco and enter a more rural area of California. The ground was flat and brown. Kagome couldn't imagine coming all the way out here just to get her hair done for a cheaper price.
As they got closer to the address, Sesshomaru got onto the walkie-talkie and ordered, "No lights or sirens. I don't want to alert her that we're here. Otherwise she might kill her victim."
The house was off the road, down a long dirt driveway. It was run down and looked like it had definitely seen better days. Next to the house was a large shed. Sesshomaru drove up slowly, mindful of the dirt crunching beneath the tires. As soon as he parked the team jumped out and started strapping on their Kevlar vests. Sesshomaru pulled out his gun and looked at his team. "Kouga, Miroku, and Sango, take the shed. Inuyasha, Kikyo, and Kagome, you're with me. Be careful."
The team nodded and walked carefully towards the house. Sesshomaru and Inuyasha plastered themselves against one side of the front door while Kikyo and Kagome waited on the other side. Kagome's heart beat heavily against her chest. Sesshomaru nodded to his brother and Inuyasha kicked the door down. They quickly went through the first floor, clearing every room. Kagome walked back through the foyer when she noticed a door that they had missed. "Sesshomaru," she whispered down the hall.
Sesshomaru pulled up next to her and paused. "Inuyasha, you and Kikyo take the upstairs. We'll take the basement."
Slowly Sesshomaru turned the handle and opened the door. He motioned for Kagome to follow them and walked down the stairs. At the bottom Sesshomaru froze and aimed his gun. "Yura Ke! You're under arrest for the kidnapping and murder of Sarah Fredricks. Now let her go."
Kagome raised her gun as well but her hands were shaking. Yura Ke had a woman tied up and gagged in a salon chair, a knife dangerously close to slitting her neck. Yura stood behind the woman with a crazed look. She was thin and pale but she held the knife steady. Around the basement were dummy heads with wigs of different colors and styles. Several bottles of pills sat on the counter next to several scissors, combs, and styling tools.
Yura smirked. "You step any closer and I cut her neck. I can do it without damaging her hair," she taunted. The woman closed her eyes as Yura leaned forward and smelled her hair. "She takes such good care of her hair. It's so soft and bouncy. So many people just kill their hair these days. It's so sad."
"Yura, it's over," Sesshomaru said. "Let her go."
"I can slit her throat a lot faster than you can shoot me. She'll still be dead," Yura said softly.
Kagome watched her team leader for any indication of what he was going to do but Sesshomaru didn't give anything away besides narrowing eyes. Not one to take a taunt, Sesshomaru took a shot, barely flinching with the ricochet.
Yura eye's widened as the bullet hit her square in the shoulder and she fell back with a cry of pain. Sesshomaru ran forward with his gun still trained on Yura as Kagome ran to the woman. Sesshomaru placed a heavy foot on Yura's uninjured arm and grabbed the knife before she could reach for it. "What was that?" Sesshomaru said with an arrogant smirk.
"I can't believe you shot a sick woman!" Yura exclaimed. "You're supposed to treat women with gentleness."
Sesshomaru scoffed under his breath and turned to his partner, his attention still partly on Yura. "How is she?"
Kagome had just finished untying the woman and was currently comforting her as she cried on Kagome's vest. "Scared but she's not hurt," Kagome reported.
Sesshomaru nodded and waited until their backup arrived before releasing Yura. He didn't lower his gun until Yura was handcuffed and dragged up the stairs.
When Sesshomaru stepped out of the house he found Kagome talking with the rest of their team. The paramedics had just driven away and Kagome seemed to be a little nervous. He nodded to the team as he walked up to them. "Kagome," he started as their team left them alone to talk.
"I gave them her name so they should be able to locate her family. She wasn't even gone a few hours so I doubt they knew she was missing," Kagome reported quickly.
"Kagome."
"I know I kind of froze," Kagome continued. "I should've helped you or something."
"Kagome," Sesshomaru tried again and this time she stopped her rambling. His eyes softened at her nervous expression and he grinned. She blinked; he rarely grinned like that and it just made him even more gorgeous. "You did well. Your insight really helped on this case." He lifted his hand and was about to brush a piece of loose hair back but instead placed it on her shoulder and gave her a light squeeze. "Good job."
Kagome watched with wide eyes as he joined an officer to cooperate with the mandatory police involved shooting investigation. A smile slowly crept to her lips as she walked over to the FBI SUVs to join her team. Maybe, just maybe, she finally found where she belonged.
