Caroline's point of view
I skip the steps up to the door, covering a yawn with the back of my hand.
I knock loudly, swaying back on my heels, nervous energy pulsing through me since the moment I woke up this morning.
The heavy wood door swings open and I'm greeted by a messy haired and sleepy Klaus. His grey long sleeved t-shirt clings to him perfectly, his paint covered canvas pants hang low on his hips, right down to his bare feet.
"G'morning," this makes my eyes snap back up to his, and I roll my eyes at his cocky grin.
"Hello," I return his smile with my own. "How was your night?" I take a step forward, watching as he instinctively leans closer, his elbow braced on the door frame.
"Restful." His says there word resentfully and I giggle, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Good, you'll need it." I can smell his minty breath now, and I have to resist running my hands through his morning hair.
"Did you come all this way just to torture me, or is there something I can help you with?" he mimics my posture, crossing his arms and leaning against the door frame.
"Did you happen to get a large yellow envelope in the mail?"
He narrows his eyes and cocks his head, "if I give it to you are you going to leave, if so then no."
"Klaus, come on," but I can't keep the smile off my face.
He narrows his eyes and then disappears into the house. I hear the rustling of papers, and listen as his footsteps bring him back into view, envelope in hand.
"Important is it?" His voice is full of sarcasm as he holds it out to me.
"Not unless you consider the marriage licence important," I hold my hand out to take it, but he pulls it away, out of my reach.
"Hey!" I take a step closer but he keeps it away.
"You could've done this over the phone." His eyes twinkle and I shake my head. I'm signing up for one hell of a life hitching myself to this man. "Is this all you wanted?" His eyes trail down my body all the way to my toes, setting my on fire before he slowly holds the package out for me to take once again.
I grasp the envelope firmly and use it to pull myself closer.
"Well that." I shrug one shoulder, we're centimetres apart. "And this."
Our lips are the only things that touch as he holds firm to the door frame with one hand and keeps me close by pulling the envelope with the other. As I step away he leans out the door, prolonging the kiss, deepening it as much as possible as I break away.
I take a few backwards steps, clutching the package close.
"I'll see you later then Love," he calls after me; and all I can manage is a smile and a nod.

"Nervous?"
His voice makes me jump. I see in the mirror behind me, tux in place, looking like a gentleman.
I breathe a laugh, and shake my head, "It's the strangest mixture of unbelievable fear and happiness, all at the same time." I turn in my makeup chair to see my stand-in father face to face, "do you think this is crazy?" my voice is small, and Stefan takes notice.
"Do you mean do I think you're crazy?" He smiles a reassuring smile, stepping further into the room and taking a seat on the edge of the hotel bed.
"I'm serious," I set my powder brush on the counter and clasp my hands in my lap; my hair flowing down around my face in loose curls, a few pieces pulled away from my face. "Do you think it is even remotely realistic to even attempt a lifetime together? Or do you think we're just kidding ourselves…" I let my voice trail off.
"I know," He says quietly, nodding "and honestly, I did." My heart skips a beat, then sinks slightly. "I couldn't even imagine it, two people swearing to spend hundreds of years together, with his past, and your temper…"
"Hey!" I pick up my makeup brush once again and chuck it in his general direction. It bounces off his knee, and he chuckles.
"But then I remembered Elena." The sadness in his voice is crippling. I look down at my hands again, "and how much being around her made me feel alive, whole." I hear the happiness in his voice now, and look up. "And I realized that I would have gladly spent the rest of my time on earth with her."
"Stefan—"
"She's happy Caroline," he smiles now, "and I don't know if I'll ever find someone who I love so completely, ever again." He stands now, shoving his hands in his dress slack pockets. "But I also know that I pushed her away, and I have to accept that and move on. But mostly, if I had it to do over again, I would do it differently."
I blink the tears away, hoping my makeup doesn't smear.
"So you're saying…" I clear my throat.
"Caroline, I have never seen you happier than when you are with him. Don't let your fear of the future take that away from you."
I stand, and wrap my arms around his shoulders.
I feel him laugh, and his arms carefully wind around my waist, being cautious of the dress.
"Thank you." I say into his jacket, and take a step back, swiping under my eyes.
There's a knock at the door, and we both turn to look.
"Hey," Elena pokes her head in, smiling as she looks at me, "You look so stunning."
And for the first time in a long time, I feel it. I turn towards the full length mirror, and look at myself for the first time.
The silk of the slip dress hangs elegantly, falling gracefully over my chest and wrapping around my abdomen with the smallest of beaded details. I adjust the thin straps on my shoulders, and straighten the train that flows out behind me like liquid. My then veil tucked under my hair curves over my shoulders and down to my elbows. My ballerina pink slippers hidden quietly under my dress.
"And the groom is here."

Klaus's point of view
"Did you ever think this day would come brother?" I watch as Elijah fixes his cuff links and buttons his jacket.
He looks up and me, his eyes narrowed slightly. "There were… A few hundred year where, I had my doubts." The humour in his voice causes me to shake my head as the reality sets in. His eyes turn sad, and his voice low. "…I'm sorry he isn't here."
I retrieve my jacket from the back of the chair, hearing the guests busy themselves with small talk, the sound of high heels clicking against the floor, and champagne flutes touching in a chorus of greets and laughter.
"He wasn't a very good brother." I state, pushing my arms through the sleeves and buttoning it twice.
"He was still our brother."
"Fin is dead." I state, as if it is not an already known fact. My voice solid and hollow.
"And I'm sorry." Elijah places his hand on my shoulder, looking me in eye.
I breathe deep, and nod.

Caroline's point of view
The wedding party gathers near the back of the hotel, everyone doing last minute touch ups and primping. The white daisy bouquets are handed out, and the music begins to play.
The glass doors to the back patio are opened wide, letting the warm breeze drift through the parlor, the sun warming the cobble stones, the guests murmuring dying down as everyone turns to watch Elijah and Elena begin the procession.
My hands shake with anticipation, and I fix my dress for the hundredth time since I stepped into it.
"Caroline," Rebekah's voice comes from behind me and I whirl around. She looks beautiful in her soft pink bridesmaid's dress, holding her small gathering of white daisies. "You know everything is going to be fine don't you?"
I blink at her, and when she smiles; a genuine smile, all I want to do is hug my new sister.
But Bonnie and, much to Bonnies chagrin, Damon have already begun their walk down the aisle, arm and arm; and it's her turn. I just nod, blink away my tears, and mouth thank you as she takes Matt's arm and turns the corner, exiting the doors, into the sun.
"Shall we?" Stefan is at my side, holding out his arm for me to take.
I switch my flowers to my right hand, and grasp his elbow with my left. "Absolutely."
The music changes, the soft notes giving me goose bumps, as I let Stefan lead me to the open doors. The sun bathes me as I step out onto the cobble stoned aisle, the guests standing all at once; it's quite over whelming.
The aisle is short, Stefan hugs me before I reach out a shaking hand to the man I'm about to marry. The man that I'm going to spend the rest of our infinity with.
His smile is easy, and mine becomes the same. The man who asks us to repeat after him smiles along with us. I hold tight to Klaus's hands throughout the ceremony, my lifeline.
"Caroline Forbes," the justice of the peace addresses me and I startle, completely caught up in Klaus.
"Yes?" my small gasp receives a few chuckles from the crowd and the man across from me.
"Do you take Niklaus Michaelson to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, to honour and cherish, for as long as you both shall live?"
My eyes blur, goose bumps start at my fingers and crawl up my arms; I press my lips together, answering what seems like the most important question I have ever been asked.
I press my lips together, and nod. "Yeah. I mean yes," I correct quickly, earning another titter from our audience. I reach up, swiping the escaped tears on my cheeks. "Yes, I do."
The man nods, and then turns to Nik "And do you, Niklaus Michaelson, take Caroline Forbes to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, to honour and cherish, for as long as you both shall live?"
I hold my breath.
His eyes are sure, his hands hold my shaking fingers, warm and familiar.
"Yeah," he mimics my answer, his eyes never leaving mine. "Yeah I do."
I shake my head slightly, completely baffled by this incredulous moment. He shrugs his shoulders a little, as if to answer my unasked question, and I have to laugh.
"Does someone have the rings?" The justice of the peace inquires, interrupting our silent conversation.
I turn around, retrieving Klaus's ring from Elena as Klaus turns to Elijah.
More tears fall on my cheeks and I wipe them away. "Oh my gosh, stop crying," I say, my voice high and elated. Klaus laughs, and I take in a long breath, pulling myself together.
Holding out his hand, I place mine in his. The cool gold band fits perfectly as he slides in next to my engagement ring. I blink down at my hand in his, completely breathless at the symbol that now rests, exactly right, on my finger. That I am his.
My clumsy hands push his ring into place; it looks both out of character and absolutely perfect at the same time. I smile and close my eyes, waiting for the next words that will forever change my life.
"Ladies and gentlemen, it is my great pleasure to present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Klaus Michaelson."
The applause if deafening. People stand and holler and clap until their hands must ache. Klaus laces his fingers through mine, pulling them to his shoulders until we're nose to nose. His lips slip against my ear, his voice quiet over the applause.
"How did we get here?" His question is rhetorical, and filled with so much history it's worth its weight in gold. But it's a good weight; like if we don't know the answer now, we have a lifetime to figure it out.
I let go of his hands and wrap my arms around his neck, holding myself against him, I shake my head.
"I don't know."
He kisses my smile, his arms lifting my feet off the ground I let him turn us around, completely lost in this moment that is all ours.

Klaus walks to the microphone, pulling it from its stand then jumps back down from the stage, leaning against it. The sound of silverware against glass fills the room and he chuckles. I've never seen him laugh so much. It's such an addicting thing to watch.
"I feel as if I have something to say, only don't quite know what that is." He raises his hand, holding a drink, and scratches his eyebrow with his thumb. "First I should thank you all for coming, it was quite the journey for some of you, and we do appreciate it." I know he's talking about the family friends of the Michaelson's who came literally across the world to be here.
His eyes finally land on me, and I cross my arms on the table, smiling.
"It's quite extraordinary, when you find someone you want to spend the rest of your life with."
He clears his throat, feeling vulnerable. "It's a powerful thing when you realize that not only do you love this person, but you can't live without them. That all at once, not only do you want them in your life, but suddenly who you are isn't who you're supposed to be." He sets his drink on the stage behind him and crosses his arm over his chest. "Caroline was not invited into my life, she fell, head first into my world," He runs a hand through his hair, looking down, "And once she was there, she never left. She refused to go, and I wouldn't've let her."
He looks back up at me, his eyes glass, "Caroline always told me that I turned her world upside down. But the truth is, she completely disassembled mine." The crowd laughs quietly, but my eyes flood with fresh tears. "And I don't think I've ever thanked you for that."
I forget we're not alone, I forget we're surrounded with people, I only see him.
"So thank you, Love," His lips twitch with a smile, "For rearranging my life until it made sense."

Pulling my silky nighty over my head, I unclip my hair, letting it fall in wild curls.
The night's goodbyes were painful. Not knowing when I am going to see them again is something I will most definitely have to get used to. Phone calls and letters were promised, and I hugged them all until my arms ached.
Turning off the light in the bathroom, I slip out the door, finding Klaus standing by the window, removing his cuff links and setting them on the night stand. The view of the Richmond is amazing. I will never get used to seeing all these different city scapes.
I walk barefoot across the plush carpet, this hotel probably costing more than a month's rent for a 2 bedroom apartment.
He turns, leaning back against the windowsill, his tie loose around his neck.
"Hello my wife," he says simply, he's backlit against the city lights.
I back up, leaning against the king sized bed. "Hello my husband." Walking towards me he places his hands gently on my hips, leaning his head down, his forehead touching mine. I let him lift my feet off the floor and set me on the tell bed.
I have to tilt my head to reach his lips. And we escape, far away from the world, just the two of us.
XXX
We sit naked, cross legged across from each other, on top of the crumpled sheets. I trace lines with my fingertips across his chest and shoulders; his tattoo and his stomach, his muscles twitch.
"You're ticklish." I murmur, the quiet of the night so peaceful; like when you were a kid and you hid under your blanket, like nothing could touch you.
He takes my hand, holding it in both of his, he folds my fingers in and out, laying kisses on the inside of my palm and wrist, trailing up.
"Where are we going tomorrow?" I whisper, my voice stolen with his lips on my skin.
"Where would you like to go?" His lips move against my collar bone, his teeth graze the flesh above my breast and my hands finds the hair at the nape of his neck.
"With you, anywhere." I bow my neck, kissing his shoulder earlobe, "I want to see what you see. I want to see the world."
Lifting his lips back up to mine, "Anywhere it is then." He says against my mouth, and then kisses my laughter.
