The trip to Montana was awkward. Lily sat in the front seat between Dean and Sam. Meg sat in the back with Kevin. Castiel eventually popped in, nearly giving Kevin a heart attack. When they got to the cabin they went to work getting up all kinds of warding symbols. They left off the angel-proofing so Castiel wouldn't be expelled.

Dean took Kevin down to the basement so he could have some quiet to start translating the tablet. They needed to see if there was something there on how to kill Dick Roman and the rest of the leviathan.

Lily went out for food. When she got back she unpacked the things for her, Dean, and Kevin and headed to the basement. She found Dean standing next to Kevin as he breathed into a brown paper bag.

"Is he okay?"

"He'll be fine. Just a mild nervous breakdown."

"Is that all?" Lily asked sarcastically. She sat Kevin's food on the table in front of him. "Here you go, Kevin."

He stared at the burger as his breathing slowed. "Thanks, but I'm a vegan."

"Oh..." Lily seemed to think for a moment, then smiled. "Be right back." She grabbed the burger then headed upstairs. "Hey, Sam? I need your salad."

"What? Why?"

"Kevin's a vegan," she said, holding the burger out to Sam.

"Oh, uh... Sure." He handed Lily his salad and took the burger that had been meant for Kevin.

Back downstairs, she handed the salad to Kevin.

"Better?" she asked.

Kevin removed the lid and examined the salad. "Yeah, thanks."

He had an almost relieved tone. Lily understood. His life had been turned completely upside down in the last twenty-four hours. This salad was familiar. It was normal. He unwrapped the plastic utensils and began to eat while he continued to read the tablet.

Lily walked over to Dean who had returned to a nearby chair. She put her hand on his shoulder.

"How's it goin'?"

"Fine, if you don't count the fit he threw a minute ago."

"Take it easy on him, Dean. He's a kid, and this all just got dumped in his lap."

"Yeah, I know." He looked up at Lily and pulled her to sit on his lap. "So, what's up with you punching Meg? When did that happen?"

"When you and Castiel left us alone to go fix Sam. I warned you, you know."

"What happened," Dean said with a grin.

"I got tired of her voice."

Dean gave Lily a disapproving look. "Come on," he said. "What happened?"

She was about to tell him when Sam came down the stairs.

"Meg is gone."

"Good," Lily said.

"No," Sam said. "She didn't tell us she was leaving. She's just gone."

"That's great," Dean said. Lily stood from his lap so he could get up. "Let's get a devil's trap set up. Kev, you keep translating. Stay put."

"I'll stay with him," Lily said.

Dean gave her a wink as he went up the stairs. She returned to the chair Dean had been sitting in and watched Kevin for a minute. It looked like it hurt to read the tablet. She felt bad for him.

"Is there anything I can do to help out?"

Kevin laid the tablet down and squeezed his eyes shut before blinking rapidly. "Can you make it so I'm not a prophet?"

"I'm sorry, Kevin."

"Thanks. I actually believe you." Lily gave him a funny look, so he explained. "Dean... I don't really feel the sympathy."

Lily sighed. "Dean sympathizes. Trust me. He's just... he's a hard guy. You have to get to know him. He understands what you're going through."

"Really?" Kevin asked, unbelieving. He was pulled from his life to be a Word Keeper?"

"No, but he's been through things just as crazy. Worse, actually."

Kevin turned back to the tablet and picked up his pen.

"Seriously, Kevin. I'd like to help if I can."

"It might be better if I could focus on the tablet without having to stop to write. I wouldn't have to refocus."

Lily grabbed the pen from Kevin and pulled his notebook to her. "You dictate, I'll write. Maybe I can even help you figure out what's important for us right now."

They worked for some time before Dean came back down to check on them. He saw Lily with the pen and notebook and raised an eyebrow.

"What's goin' on?"

Lily looked up at the sound of his voice. "I'm helping Kevin. He's reading and I'm writing it down."

"Good idea."

Dean walked behind Lily and put his hands on her shoulders. She didn't realize, until his hands squeezed, that she was carrying so much tension. She let her head fall back a bit, and she felt his thumbs pressing gently into her shoulders and moving in small circles. She opened her eyes and glanced at Kevin, whose attention was still fully on the tablet.

"Kevin," she said, "why don't you take a break while I talk to Dean a minute. Rest your eyes."

Kevin nodded and stood. "Bathroom break."

Once Kevin was up the stairs, Lily let her head fall back completely and Dean leaned over and kissed her, upside down.

"How's it goin' up there?" she asked.

"We've got the devil's trap up. No sign of Meg."

At the mention of her name Dean felt Lily's shoulders tighten. He found a box and pulled it over next to Lily, and sat down facing her.

"Sweetheart, you have got to stop letting her get to you. Demons love that, you know?"

"She has brought you and Sam nothing but pain. She is the reason why Ellen and Jo are dead. She worked for the demon who killed your mom... your dad. She fought on Lucifer's side. How can you be in the same room with her?"

Dean took Lily's hand in his and hung his head a little. "Everything you just said is true. Everything." He stopped and looked back up into her eyes. "But the fact is that, before this is all over, she could be useful. I'm not above using a demon to win. Not when it's this important. We're talking the end of humanity, here. Mindless bodies just waiting to be picked out to be eaten. We won't be anything but cattle to these monsters if we don't stop them."

"I'll try not to let her get to me," Lily said. "I make no promises, though."

Dean smiled at her and pulled her head toward him. He placed a gentle kiss on her lips, then kissed her forehead. When he looked up, Kevin was just stepping off of the bottom step. He stared at Dean and Lily as if his eyes were playing tricks on him, seeing the tough Dean in such a tender moment. When Dean saw Kevin, he pulled back and got back to business.

"So, how's it goin' with this stuff?" he asked, pointing at the tablet.

"Pretty good actually," Lily said. She smiled at Kevin as he sat down. "I think we're almost done. Kevin?" Lily looked at him to see if he agreed.

"Uh, yeah. It will take a little more time, but it does seem like we're getting closer to the end of this section."

Dean stood and gave Kevin a firm slap on the back, then patted his shoulder. "Good job, Kev."

Dean winked at Lily as he passed her and headed back upstairs. Kevin stared after him, and Lily knew he was a little surprised by what seemed to be a change in Dean's attitude.

"I told you," she said. "You have to get to know him. He really is a good guy." She smiled at him, then picked up the pen. "Back to work?"

Kevin nodded and they got back to it. They weren't at it very long when there was suddenly a man standing next to Kevin, and then they were both gone. Lily stood from her chair, completely in shock.

"Dean!" She yelled, but got no response. She checked her surroundings. All her weapons were upstairs, and there was nothing very useful down in the basement. Not against the supernatural, anyway. She carefully crept up the stairs and heard raised voices. A woman's voice, but it wasn't Meg. She suddenly remembered hearing that voice back at the hospital before Dean used the sigil. The voice belonged to an angel. She was just about to turn the doorknob when a blinding white light filtered around the doorframe and through the cracks in the old, wooden door. When the light vanished, she went through and stepped into the room. Two men stood in front of Sam and Dean. Meg stood over the dead body of a woman, likely the voice she had heard, and a bloodied and beaten Castiel. She also saw Kevin. A bit of relief washed over her, but not much.

"What?" Meg asked. "Someone had to."

"Dean?" Lily called out. He looked up and nodded at her.

"It's okay."

Lily went to Castiel and helped him up. "You've got some pretty bad cuts here," she said, examining his face. She turned her head toward Dean. "Get me something to clean this up." But when she turned back to Castiel, his face was fine. "Right," she said. "Angel... I almost forgot."

"Damn it!" Dean's voice rang out through the room. "Meg's gone again."

Lily stood. "I'll help you look for her. Maybe she's close by waiting for the other angels to leave."

"Oh yeah," Dean said. "What about you guys. Boss is dead. Now what?"

"That leaves me in charge," one of the men said. He turned to the remaining angel and told him to go find someone. Probably another angel. "We will let the prophet finish translating for you, then we will return him to his home."

"I'll stay with Kevin while he finishes," Sam said.

Dean and Lily came back later with no sign of Meg. She was gone again. Kevin finished translating what they needed and the angels took him home.

Sam read from the notebook as Dean, Lily, and Castiel looked on.

"Here. 'Leviathan cannot be slain but by a bone of a righteous mortal washed in the three bloods of the fallen.' Uh... It says we need to start with the blood of a fallen angel."

All eyes went to Castiel. He smiled, and somehow filled a small jar with his blood just by holding it in his hand. Then he disappeared.

"Let's get to work," Dean said.
