They went to work figuring out what the translation meant for killing the leviathan. "Cut off the head and the body will flounder." They weren't sure what that meant. Dick Roman was obviously the head, but what exactly would happen to the rest of the creatures? Would they just die? They had no clue. The were also unsure about the rest of the ingredients they needed.
Lily and Sam were sitting at the table in Rufus' cabin watching a commercial on his laptop. Dean came out of the bathroom as it ended and said that he had just talked to Bobby, who had a few ideas as to what they would need for the spell. Sam told Dean about what he and Lily had just watched. Roman Enterprises had purchased SucroCorp, a company that manufactured high fructose corn syrup. Now their little poison would be in everything from soda to pie. Dean wasn't happy about that at all. As they talked, the lid of Sam's laptop slammed shut and they all stared at each other.
"Like I said," Dean said, "Bobby's got some ideas."
The first idea was that "the ruler of fallen humanity" that they needed blood from was Crowley. They decided to summon him. They knew they would have to fill him in on the plan, otherwise he would never give them his blood. Dean grabbed Lily's hand.
"Hey," he said. "I want you to wait in the basement while we do this. You're not on Crowley's radar, and I'd like to keep it that way."
"No arguments here," she said. "I'm sick of demons. I definitely don't wanna meet their ruler." She squeezed his hand and kissed him. "Be careful."
He nodded and she headed downstairs. When Crowley was gone he came and got her. Crowley agreed to give them his blood, but only after they had all the other ingredients. He even gave them a clue as to where to find the blood of the father of fallen beasts. An alpha. The alpha vampire to be exact. He gave them a location : Hoople, North Dakota.
Once in Hoople, they stopped at a Gas N' Sip. As Dean filled the car, Lily went inside to get some snacks. Sam and Dean came in a few minutes later. They had left the flask in the car and were discussing Bobby. Sam was really worried he was going vengeful. As they talked, they noticed the people around the store seemed out of it, like the people who had eaten those turducken sandwiches. It was starting already. They would have to start eating completely natural food. Sam was okay with the idea. Dean and Lily complained. Dean wanted his pie, and Lily couldn't live without soda.
At the alpha vampire's hideout, they found several dead bodies. All vampires. They looked as if they had been burned with battery acid around their mouths. They soon found out that they had died after feeding on people affected by Dick Roman's new corn syrup. They stocked up easily simply by telling a few stoners they needed their blood, then they found where the alpha was staying in Missoula, Montana. They waited for daylight. Dean locked the flask in the motel safe so Bobby couldn't follow them, and they set out. Dean wanted Lily to stay behind, but she refused.
"You can't expect me to just stand aside and let you two go after the alpha alone," she said. "I'm going."
Dean wasn't happy about it, but he knew there was no arguing with her.
At the last minute, they changed attack plans. There would be no attack. Sam thought they should just talk to the alpha. He thought, since the vampires were dying, the alpha may actually help them willingly. Dean didn't like it, but he went along with it. Sam went in first, then Dean with Lily close behind them. The front door was open. They were ambushed as soon as they went inside, and brought before the alpha. He was sitting in a dining room at the head of a long table.
"We're here to talk," Sam said. "That's it."
The alpha laughed. "Now that my guys have taken your blades and your syringes of tainted blood. Is that what you mean?"
"Well," Dean said, "we, uh... figured you might hold a grudge."
"And why would I? Because you captured me, tortured me, sold me to the king of Hell?"
"That was more our grandpa," Dean said.
One of the vampires that captured them grabbed Dean and threw his head into the table in front of them. Lily screamed, unable to deal with Dean being hurt that way right before her eyes. He went down to his knees before standing. His mouth was bleeding, and she was at his side in a second, holding his face as he wiped the blood away with his hand.
"And you're also rude," the alpha said. "I haven't had the pleasure of being introduced to this young lady." His eyes were on Lily, and Dean immediately straightened.
"And you won't have that pleasure."
"She'd make a fine addition to my family."
"Over my dead body," Dean said. He wrapped an arm tightly around Lily.
"That can be arranged," the alpha said. "I'm going to peel off your faces and drink you slowly."
Sam started talking fast. He told the alpha about the corn syrup, but the alpha already knew. He was in on the scheme with Roman, but Sam soon figured out that the alpha didn't realize it was the corn syrup killing his children. He worked hard to convince him.
Just when it looked like the alpha might be starting to believe them, it was announced that Edgar, Dick Roman's right hand man, had arrived. The alpha had the three of them put in the study while he talked to Edgar. Rather than just wait around, they began looking for a way out.
"There's no way out of here," Lily said. "He's not an idiot."
Dean held up a needle from an IV bag that was lying around. "You think you could pick a lock with this?" he asked Sam.
Sam took the needle. "But, Dean," Sam said, "We gave up all our Vamptonite."
"Did we?" He lifted the leg of his jeans and pulled a syringe out of his boot.
Lily grabbed his face and kissed him hard. He grunted at the impact.
"Sorry, baby," Lily said.
"I appreciate the idea," Dean said, "but having your face slammed into a table lingers a bit."
Lily kissed him again, much more gently. Sam rolled his eyes and began working on the lock. It didn't take long for him to get it open and they made their way downstairs.
On the ground floor, Sam was attacked from behind and Dean shoved the syringe into the vampire's neck. The three of them watched as the tainted blood took effect. It was fast, and lethal. It was also their last syringe.
"Alright," Dean said, "we need knives. There's gotta be a prep room or a kitchen somewhere. Come on."
They got their weapons back and made their way to the dining room just in time to see Edgar and the alpha duking it out. They chopped off Edgar's head and the alpha actually gave them his blood willingly. They were almost hesitant to take it, but they did, and left.
The ride back to the motel was quiet. Dean and Sam really would have loved to get rid of the alpha completely, but they had bigger problems at the moment. When they got to their room, the door was open. The room was a mess, and the safe was open. The flask was gone, and so was Bobby.
Dean stood at the open safe, just staring at it. Lily came up behind him and put a hand on his shoulder as Sam measured the EMF in the room.
"It's not him," Sam said. "I mean, he's not thinking."
"So, what," Dean said, "we just keep going while he's out there like this?"
"Do we have any other option? I mean, it's what he'd want us to do. Right?"
"Yeah. Yeah, him and Frank and Cas, if his marbles were in the bag."
Lily could tell Dean was extremely upset. "Dean..."
"No," he interrupted. "Sam's right. It's a good thing we got Crowley in our corner. Right? Seeing as how it all comes down to him. What could possibly go wrong?"
His tone was entirely sarcastic. Lily didn't even want to think about what could go wrong. She wrapped her arms around him, and he returned her embrace.
"We should get out of town," Sam said. "Just in case the alpha changes his mind."
"Good idea," Lily said.
"Alright," Dean said, "back to Whitefish."
