A/N: I have been looking forward to and dreading this chapter because it means that this story is almost over. Yes, ladies and gentlemen there's only a few more chapters until the end. I'll let you get to the chapter now. ENJOY! :D
The pure joy that was in the room was amazing. After the hug session was over, Kendall introduced me and Hannah to them. We all went into the living room and shared our stories of how we have survived. Kendall shared with them about what happened with his band and they were a little saddened by it but more angry that they were going to leave Kendall for dead than anything.
Mrs. Knight and Katie traveled with their neighbors to the local hospitals in search for someone attempting to make a safety camp. They both had their share of zombie scares before they found Logan and his boyfriend, James. I made a mental note to ask Logan about their adventures later. Katie found a little boyfriend, who Kendall insisted on meeting before she told him that he tried to rob them and they scared him off.
Mrs. Knight couldn't stop smiling as she talked about how much she missed Kendall and how she prayed that he was okay. Kendall introduced them to Bell, who Katie fell in love with almost instantly. I told them mine and Hannah's story and they were impressed by how much effort I put in to taking care of her. When they saw Hannah's eyes, both of them were mesmerized by them. Mrs. Knight said that they enhanced how beautiful she is.
"I wish I had eyes like that." Katie said.
"No you don't." Kendall told her and they both looked at him.
"Her eyes have gotten us into a lot of trouble."
"Still, I think it's pretty cool." Katie said, smiling at her.
"Do you want to hold her?" I asked and she eagerly nodded her head but Mrs. Knight stepped in.
"I don't think that's a good idea."
"It's fine. Hannah's great with people and is very friendly."
"I'm not worried about Hannah." She said, looking at Katie.
"Mom, I am capable of holding a baby." Katie said before I looked over at Kendall. I didn't know what to do.
"Fine, Kendall, can I have a word with you?" Mrs. Knight said before she stood up, walking into the kitchen. I handed Hannah over to Katie and she was holding her perfectly. I sat in front of her as Hannah touched her face. Bell walked over to us and sat down next to me.
"I think Bell has grown as sort of protector of Hannah. Every time someone besides me or Kendall hold her, she's watching them." I told Katie.
"Well, she doesn't have to worry about me. I'm harmless." Katie said before smiling at Hannah. I saw Kendall walking back out of the kitchen, blushing madly while his mother had a smirk on her face, looking between me and Kendall. He sat down next to me and covered his face, sighing.
"Are you alright?" I asked him and he nodded before he slouched back on the couch, uncovering his face.
"My mom is just being-"
"Kendall."
"What? I have to tell him."
"Not while Katie's here."
"What? I want to know."
"Now she's interested." Kendall said to his mom.
"Hey, I'm old enough to know."
"No you're not."
"If this is about Kendall being gay, I already knew that years ago when he wanted to be in a boy band."
"Hey! That was because I love music not-"
"Because you love boys." Katie said and I tried to hide my laughter but Kendall heard it and scoffed.
"Oh, the joys of children." Mrs. Knight said, rubbing her forehead as the two of them argued.
"Kendall." I said, grabbing his hand and he stopped.
"You're gay, get over it." I told him and he looked at me in disbelief.
"I could be bisexual."
"Not with that hair." Katie commented and they went back to arguing.
"Enough." Mrs. Knight said and both of them stopped and glared at each other.
"Kendall, you're a grown man. Why are you arguing with your sister like you're a teenager?" I asked him.
"I'm catching up on lost arguing time." He said and I couldn't help but smile as everyone else did.
"Well, there's nothing wrong with being gay so stop arguing."
"I know that."
"Are you gay?" Katie asked me and I smirked.
"I'm bi." Kendall let out a groan and laid out on the couch.
"Kendall, there's no difference in you being gay or bi, I still love you no matter what."
"I know, mom, I'm just trying to prove a point."
"What point?" I asked him and he sighed.
"Nothing."
"He's trying to somehow prove me wrong in knowing that he was gay." Katie said and he glared at her.
"Alright Katie, I think it's time we leave these three alone so they can get themselves situated." Mrs. Knight said, standing up. Katie handed me Hannah before giving me a hug. Kendall hugged his mother and she kissed his cheek before she gave me a hug.
"I'm glad you're here." She told me in my ear and I couldn't help but smile. They said goodbye to Bell before they headed out.
"See you guys in a bit." Kendall said to them as they walked down the front steps. He closed the door and smiled at me. Hannah held her arms out for him and he ran over to us, picking her up. She giggled as he held her high in the air before bringing her back down to rest on his hip.
"We have to get decent before we go out and talk with people."
"Luckily, I grabbed a change of clothes before chasing after you." I told him, going into the baby bag. I took out a pair of his jeans and a shirt and some underwear, handing it all to him.
"Thank you." He said, kissing my cheek and Hannah before he headed upstairs. Hannah giggled and reached out for him so I grabbed the diaper bag and headed upstairs.
I couldn't stop smiling as we all got dressed. Me, Kendall, and Hannah all took a bath together with bubbles and she loved it. I'm glad Hannah is getting so comfortable with Kendall and wanting to be held by him. Most of the time she's calm with people but she looks for me periodically. With Kendall, she's completely focused on him. Kendall's so good with her too, so that's a plus. I dressed Hannah in some ladybug pajamas before she dozed off. Kendall smiled at her sleeping form before looking at me.
"She looks so cute sleeping." He said as he dried his hair. I smiled at him before he put the towel around my neck and pulled me close to him, connecting our lips.
"I saw you naked." He whispered in my ear, making me blush.
"I saw you naked too."
"I know." He said as he put our foreheads together. He let go of the towel and I took a step back before he put on his shirt. I didn't bother putting on anything more than my underwear so I headed downstairs.
"Kendall, are you hungry?!" I yelled back up the steps.
"Not really, we're going to meet my mom after our nap."
"Since when are we taking a nap."
"Since now."
"I want cookies."
"Come get my cookies."
"They aren't chocolate chip."
"They're still delicious."
"How do you know?"
"I don't. Come see for me." By now I had gotten the cookies and made my way up the stairs.
"I'll just take a nap then." I told him as I walked in the room and sat on the bed. Kendall stopped styling his hair in the mirror and sat on the bed next to me. I scooted back a little and put my feet in his lap.
"Are you ticklish?" He asked me and I instantly glared at him.
"Don't tickle me."
"You never answered my question which means-"
"Yes but I don't want to be tickled."
"You've escaped my tickle rage for now."
"You're so weird." I told him as he laid back on the bed. I rubbed my feet up his lap, moving under his shirt, pulling it up as I went.
"What are you doing?"
"Eating cookies."
"No with your feet."
"Just feeling your abs."
"You can't use your hands?"
"Why? You have a problem with my feet?" I asked as I moved them all the way up to his chest. He swiftly sat up, ripped off his shirt, and moved in between my legs. He grabbed the cookies and laid them on the bed as he began kissing up my chest. I smirked when he finally reached my mouth, connecting our lips.
"What's gotten into you?" I asked him, breaking our kiss.
"It's been months since I've had sex."
"It's been about a year for me."
"Touché."
"Yeah."
"So, you don't want to have sex?" He asked me, sitting up.
"I do but now's not a good time."
"This is probably the best time. Do you not want to have sex with me?"
"Kendall, I would actually love to have sex with you right now but Hannah is sleep right there."
"We can go in the bathroom."
"Are you trying to make a compromise for sex?"
"I'm sorry but I really want to have sex with you."
"How about an I.O.U?" He frowned when I said that but he nodded. I rolled a blanket up and put it on the side of the bed while me and Kendall cuddled on the other side. Hannah made a little sound and I turned to face her. I felt Kendall cuddle me from behind before he kissed my cheek and wrapped his arms around me, pulling me closer to him. I sighed before I felt my eyes get heavier.
When I woke up, the first thing I noticed was that Kendall wasn't there. When I actually opened my eyes, I saw that Hannah was gone. I quickly sat up and climbed out of the bed. I stopped in the hallway when I heard her laugh. Kendall has her, she's fine. I slowly walked down the steps and tip-toed to the kitchen. I peaked in to see Kendall feeding her some of her baby food.
"Carlos said I should taste it before I give it to you." Kendall said with a sigh. I watched as he raised the spoon to his mouth with a little bit of baby food on it. I covered my mouth to muffle my laugh when he tasted it.
"This is actually good." He said as he got another spoonful.
"You're suppose to be feeding her." I told him as he put the food in his mouth. He looked up at me with the spoon in his mouth, making Hannah laugh. I walked over to them and took the spoon out of his mouth.
"How much of that did you see?" He asked as I fed Hannah some food.
"Just you eating the food and liking it. Why? Is there something else?"
"I sort of did a little dance that I would be embarrassed if you saw it."
"Now, I kind of wish I saw it." I said, handing him the food. I turned to look for Bell in the living room, chewing on some toy. She looked up at me and walked over, holding it in her mouth.
"She wants to play." Kendall told me. I grabbed the toy and threw it across the living room. Bell bolted in the direction of the toy and caught it the second it hit the ground. I expected her to bring it back but she stopped and dropped the toy. I stood up from my crouched position and looked to see she moved in front of the door.
"What is it?" Kendall asked.
"She's just looking at the door."
"That means she hears someone on the other side." A second after Kendall said that there was a knock on the door.
"Can you answer it?" I asked.
"Why can't you?"
"I'm in my underwear." He sat Hannah's food down and headed to the door.
"Go put on some clothes." He said, slapping my butt. I finished up feeding Hannah while he answered the door.
Kendall's POV
I opened the door to see Katie standing there with some guy. He was a little taller than me with tan skin and brown hair that he most likely cut himself.
"Hey, Kendall, this is Logan's boyfriend, James."
"Also known as the co-owner of this safety camp." James said, offering a smile and his hand to shake.
"Oh, okay, come on in." I said after I shook his hand.
"Where's Carlos and Hannah?" Katie asked and my eyes widened.
"Kendall, who's that?" Carlos said coming down the steps fully dressed with Hannah.
"Aww, doesn't she look adorable in that cute purple dress." James said, smiling.
"It matches her eyes." Katie said before James gasped.
"Logan told me about the special baby we had with us. I just wanted to stop past and tell you three that we're having a little gathering in the middle of the camp. There's going to be food and games for you to enjoy."
"Oh that's great, you ready to go?" I said, turning to Carlos.
"Yeah sure." We all headed out the door and I whistled for Bell to follow us.
"That's a cute dog." James told me.
"Thanks, she's a life saver too." We all walked to the corner and met up with my mom before heading to the gathering.
"You know, this place makes you forget about all of the undead around us." Carlos said.
"Yeah, except for the lack of birds and the sounds of animals." Katie commented.
"What happened to them?" Carlos asked her.
"All of the guards are to keep all animals, including birds, out of this area because we believe that they've fed on infected flesh so they might mistake living flesh as infected and attack us. We've seen it happen in our last safety camp." James told Carlos.
"We?"
"Me and Logan. That's why the two of us are in charge. We know what's best for survival."
"How do you figure that?" I asked him.
"Me and Logan were in one of the biggest towns in America and we watched as the infection spread street by street."
"Hollywood."
"Yup." James said, walking a little further up.
"Wait." I said, walking up to him.
"How did you two manage to survive that?"
"I'll explain it later." We turned a corner and there were tons of people standing around socializing. I slowed down a little and grabbed Carlos' hand. I couldn't help but smile when Hannah extended her hands out to me.
"It's official, she's obsessed with you."
"I have that effect on people." I said, winking at him before I grabbed Hannah. He rolled his eyes as he handed her to me. She reached for my face again and I smiled at her before I kissed her forehead.
James told us to follow him to the middle of the group of people before he stood on a table. Logan came out of nowhere and handed him a megaphone. As we walked, everyone turned to look at Hannah, some gasped and some just looked shocked. James gestured for everyone to quiet down and they all just kept looking at me. I held Hannah closer to me and looked around at everyone else.
"Everyone, I want to introduce you to-"
"They have an infected baby!" Some guy yelled.
"First off, she's not infected. Second, her name is Hannah."
"I know an infected baby when I see one and she's infected." Another guy said, making his way closer to us. Logan grabbed the megaphone from James and glared at the guy.
"You think you know what an infected baby looks like?" Logan asked him and he nodded.
"You mind?" Logan asked me, reaching for Hannah.
"Uh?" I said, looking over at Carlos and he nodded. I handed Logan Hannah and she looked from me to him before Logan turned her to face the man.
"An infected child has protruding veins, skin discoloration, yellow teeth, and dark bloodshot eyes. Tell me if you see any of that on her?" The guy looked her over and glared at Logan.
"I say we take a vote."
"I say you shut the fuck up." James said, jumping down from the table.
"If you or anybody has a problem with her being here then no one is stopping you from leaving. She's a perfectly healthy baby."
"So why is her eyes purple?" A woman asked.
"Can we just get back to the situation at hand?" Logan asked.
"If you have any questions about her, wait until all of the announcements are done." James took the megaphone back from Logan and stood back on the table.
"Everyone, I want to introduce you all to Kendall, Carlos, their dog, Bell, and special baby, Hannah. The four of them, along with Camille and Jo, who you all met earlier, traveled to a local school and saved about thirty kids." Everyone cheered for us, except for the few who still were upset about earlier as Logan handed me Hannah.
"They'll be joining us in our little community and I hope you all can make them feel as welcomed as possible, especially since you all accused their child of being infected. Another announcement is tomorrow, we're finalizing the preparation to travel to Texas. By tonight, everyone needs to have a bag of their essentials ready to go. In the morning everyone is to put their bags in the front. Make sure you have a sure way to identify it and one bag per person." James cut off the megaphone and jumped down from the table. Everyone dispersed away from the table except for the group that accused Hannah of being a zombie. A woman from the group walked up to us and Carlos took a step forward.
"I honestly want to apologize. We thought that she was infected because her eyes aren't something normal. I hope you two can understand." We both nodded and she smiled before she walked away. Most of the group followed her except for a few guys.
"You may have everyone here fooled but you can't fool me. I know infected when I see it."
"So explain to me how she's infected if she's been like this before the infection started. I have been taking care of her since she was born. A few months of chaos doesn't mean it's time to kill any child with an abnormality." Carlos told him. He glared and walked away from us, gesturing for his friends to follow him.
"Sorry about him, he's had it hard, watching his whole family slowly turn one by one. I just hope you don't hold that against him. He's a real nice guy, just been through a lot. I hope you four feel at home here." One of the guy's friends said before he caught up with the rest of them.
"Well, you two sure know how to cause a scene." Jo said, walking up, holding Camille's hand.
"It was all her." Carlos said, smiling, looking at Hannah. We all walked around and played some of the games they had set up for people to enjoy. We were in the middle of a game of UNO when James approached me.
"Hey, Kendall, can I talk to you over here for a second?"
"Yeah." I said, handing Hannah over to Carlos.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to go talk to James for a second."
"Okay." Carlos said, grabbing my cards and playing for me. I got up and followed James over to a secluded area before he turned to me and started talking.
"We need to pick up some more supplies before we head out tomorrow and since I'm the coordinator for this group, I'm asking you to help us."
"Why me?"
"Because you help get your group here and you haven't lost a person."
"Well, I was on my own for a while but if I go, Bell has to come with me."
"Bell?"
"My dog."
"Oh, right."
"Wait, do you want Carlos' help too?"
"He has to take care of the baby and I wouldn't want both of you to put your lives in danger and she ends up being one of the orphans."
"That sounds fair. He's probably not going to be happy about it."
"He'll be happy when you come back in one piece and everyone will be ready to head out." James said, patting me on the shoulder before we returned to the group. I figured I should wait to tell Carlos about my decision to go on this mission with James.
It's starting to get dark and the group lunch turned into a mini bonfire. Most of the people headed back to their homes to prepare for tomorrow while the rest of us were ready to head out to get the supplies. Carlos was laying his head on my shoulder, fighting his sleep, while Hannah was in my arms sleep. James asked Camille and Jo to come with us so they were across from me, on the other side of the fire.
"Hey, James, you never told us about you and Logan surviving to get here." I said, looking between the two.
"Quick thinking on Logan's part and force from on my part. When it all started, I literally ran into him and knocked him out. I carried him until I could get to a safe part of town. I nursed him back to health the best I could and when he came to he told me I was doing it all wrong. We spent time gathering people because that's what all the movies do right?" I nodded and he smiled but it quickly changed to a frown.
"You're wrong. Once it starts, you be careful who you bring in with you. Most of them lie and say they aren't infected when they are. Then there's a power struggle and drama."
"So what did you two do to keep everything so strong?" Carlos asked.
"Well, first we thought it would be good to join another safety camp once our first one fell to infection. Bad choice. They turned out to be cannibals and killed most of the people in the camp. Logan painted blood and other things on my side and we told them we were infected. They threw us out before they finished the rest of the group."
"Oh my god." Jo said, looking from me to him.
"I know, it's pretty surreal because you would think everyone would want to help everyone to survive but this infection takes it's toll on certain people. It took us a while to get a camp like this to function properly."
"Oh, well, I'm glad you decided to include the radio thing because if not, we'd still be in Kendall's house." Jo told them.
"Hey, my house was built to last for years."
"Yeah but how long did you expect us to stay there?"
"At the time, I didn't care, if you had a problem with it, you could've left at any point."
"But?" Carlos said, looking at me.
"But now I care about you guys even thought you tried to rob me the first time you saw me."
"You always bring that up." Jo said, sighing as Carlos put his head back on my shoulder.
"Sorry, near death experiences are hard to forget."
"We weren't going to kill you, just rob you."
"I wouldn't have let that happen without a fight and Camille would've shot me."
"True." Camille said, smiling. It was a light conversation and no one was as serious as we might have sounded. James looked over at me pointedly and then to Carlos.
"Carlos." I said, getting his attention.
"Yeah." He said, not moving from my shoulder.
"You should take Hannah back to the house, I have some things to take care of and you look tired."
"What things do you need to do? If you don't mind me asking." He said, sitting up to look at me.
"Just some clean up stuff and preparation for tomorrow."
"Oh, okay." He said, standing up.
"I'll walk you back to the house." I said, standing with him, calling for Bell to follow. We walked in a comfortable silence as I stared down at Hannah. She's such a beautiful baby.
"How's your ankle?" Carlos asked, randomly.
"It's fine, it was just a mild sprain, it's healed now."
"That's good."
"All because of you." I said, kissing his forehead.
We reached the house and I walked him up to the front and he used his key to open the door. I handed him Hannah and gave him a kiss before he walked in the house. I headed back down the steps and Bell looked at me from the front steps until I whistled for her to come down.
I glanced down at her and noticed that she looked back a few times before she focused as we turned the corner. Carlos and Hannah are such a big part in not only my life but her's as well. I never thought I would feel this way about someone before. The amount of trust we have in each other is so crazy compared to when we first met. Me and Bell walked up to James and he smiled.
"You ready?"
"About as ready as I'll ever be until you give me my guns."
Carlos POV
I laid Hannah down in the bed and laid pillows around her sleeping form before I took a quick shower. I picked out my clothes for tomorrow and made sure everything else was packed away and all of the bags were downstairs, ready to go. I laid out my clothes to be ready to put on and left Kendall's bag upstairs so he could do it once he's done with helping James. I laid down next to Hannah and made sure to leave enough space for Kendall to slide back in the position he was in when we went to sleep earlier.
"CARLOS! CARLOS! GET UP!" I jumped up to the sound of Kendall screaming and Hannah's crying. I ran over to my clothes and threw them on before Kendall was at the door.
"We have to go, now."
"Why? What happened?" I asked as I grabbed Hannah and Kendall grabbed the bags. I tried to soothe her as we ran down the steps. Camille and Jo were grabbing the stuff by the steps and I didn't know what was going on but I just followed them out the door. Kendall was out the door right behind me and Bell was running next to us.
"Go to the entrance and head for one of the trucks lined up." Kendall told us.
We ran towards the entrance to the safety camp and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Everyone was loading into tons of trucks. Me, Camille, and Jo came to a slow stop in front of the chaos. Kendall ran past, turning around to gesture for us to follow him. We spotted James and Logan holding an empty truck that Kendall was running to.
"We have a clean car seat perfect for Hannah." Logan told me and I nodded climbing in with Jo climbing in on the other side.
I strapped Hannah in the seat before I turned to see Kendall throwing the bags in the back of the pick up truck. Camille and Bell climbed in the back while Logan and James directed people to the trucks and helped little kids in their seats.
"Jo, what is going on?"
"Zombies have breached the back of the camp and are pouring in."
"WAIT, WAIT, WHERE'S MY SON?" I heard a woman yell.
"I thought you got him?" A man, who I guessed was her husband said.
"No! I told you to get him!" She yelled at him.
"Ma'am, where did you live?"
"Um, we lived on the second street over from the breakthrough."
"I'm sorry but that place is probably flooded with zombies." James told her and she burst into tears. Me and Kendall turned to each other at the same time and I shook my head, knowing what he was about to do.
"I have to." He mouthed to me before he snatched James' gun out of his hand and ran in the opposite direction. I jumped out of the car and ran after him but James grabbed me as Camille grabbed Bell.
"Carlos, think about Hannah. She needs her father and Kendall can take care of himself. He wouldn't do it if he didn't know the risks. We have to go, there will be a truck waiting for him." James told me.
"What if he doesn't come back?" I asked him as I broke away from his grasp and he just looked at me.
"Exactly." I said, tearing up as I got back in the car. I could hear Bell whimpering in the back as Camille tried to soothe her. James got in the driver's seat as Logan got in the passenger seat before we drove off.
A/N: This chapter took an intense turn and I love it. This is one of the moments I've been looking forward to typing ever since I created this story. Now, what do you guys think? REVIEW PLEASE! :D
