There was one more ingredient before they could call for Crowley again. The bone of a righteous person. They made a quick stop at a nun's crypt. Sam read from a book that told them about each of the nuns buried there. When they found one they thought sounded good, Dean smashed in the crypt and they grabbed what they needed.
Since they were already in Montana, it didn't take them long to get back to the cabin. Lily went down to wait in the basement again while they summoned Crowley. A few minutes later, she heard voices, but the voices sounded familiar. She climbed the stairs to find Meg and Castiel.
"When I left," Castiel was saying, "I wanted to observe the flowers... and fruit. Flowers come first, obviously. But I heard nothing from them."
"You heard nothing from who?" Sam asked.
"The Garrison."
"What happened to the Garrison?"
"Well, finally, the silence was deafening," Castiel continued, ignoring Sam's question. "So, I went to look... to the home of the Prophet. You know, Leviathan can kill angels. There's a reason why Father locked them in Purgatory. They're the Piranha that would eat the whole aquarium. They're gone. The entire Garrison. Dead. If there's anyone left at all, they're in hiding."
"Um, I'm sorry," Dean said, "if the angels are dead, where's Kevin?"
A worried look came over Castiel's face, an he muttered to himself. "I could steal them from their cages, the monkeys. But where would I put them all?"
"Why's he talking about monkeys?" Lily whispered to Dean.
"Hey!" Dean yelled. "Focus. Is Kevin alive?"
"I don't want to fight," Castiel said.
"No, I'm not..." Dean's tone became calmer. "We're worried."
"They took him. He's alive. I felt such responsibility, but it's in your hands now."
"Wait," Dean said. "Hold on a freakin' minute."
"I feel much better."
"Guys," Meg interrupted. "What's all that?
She motioned to the stuff that Sam and Dean had used to summon Crowley.
"We called Crowley," Sam said.
"You what?"
"Don't worry," Dean said. "He never showed."
"What do you mean never..."
"Do you see him anywhere? He stood us up."
"Well, I'm sorry about that, but I'm outie. He could still..."
"Show up at any time." All eyes fell on Crowley. "Hello, boys. Sorry I'm late. This is an embarrassment of riches," he said as he looked around the room.
Dean instinctively put himself between Crowley and Lily, a move that didn't go unnoticed by Crowley. Meg tried to run, but Crowley blocked the exit and warned her not to try to smoke out. He looked at Dean.
"I came here to help you. I find out you've been lying to me, harboring an angel, and not just any angel. The one angel I most want to crush between my teeth."
Crowley seemed ready to go toe to toe with Castiel, but it didn't take him long to realize that Castiel had lost his mind. It appeared to take the fun out of taunting him.
He pulled out a vile of blood. The guys seemed suspicious, and Sam asked Crowley why he was late.
"Dick had me in a devil's trap. He's not an idiot. He knows what you two are after."
"So what did he offer you?" Sam asked.
"A fair deal. In exchange for giving you the wrong blood." He held up the vile. "It's demon, but is it mine?" He paused for effect, and then practically sighed. "It's my blood. Real deal."
"And why should we trust you?" Dean asked.
"Good God, don't. Never trust anyone. A lesson I learned from my last business partner." His eyes went to Castiel.
"Alright," Dean said. "Give us the blood."
"Certainly. Oh, bonus. Meg, I'm gonna scoop you up, take you home, and roast you 'til you're jerky." Crowley then turned to Lily. "And this sweet thing behind Dean... what's your name love?"
Before Lily could say or do anything, Dean jumped in. "Back off, Crowley."
"So defensive," Crowley said. "You're protecting her, so she's either weak and vulnerable, which, let's face it, I love. Or... she's important to you... which interests me."
Lily gripped the back of Dean's shirt. No one could see, especially not Crowley, but Dean could feel it. She was clinging to him like a lifeline.
"You even think about touching one hair on her head, and I'll take you out. You understand?"
Crowley tossed the vile of blood to Sam and disappeared. So did Meg and Castiel. Dean turned to Lily and she grabbed his hand.
"Dean, I don't like how that sounded," she said.
"Neither do I."
He pulled her into his arms and kissed her head. "I won't let him hurt you. I'll die first."
"That's not really comforting."
Dean stared at Sam as he held Lily. He didn't know what to say to her. She had never been involved in their battles. Not the ones this big. This was why he pushed her away all those years. But he knew he couldn't do that now. As much as he would love to lock her away somewhere, he wanted her with him. Selfish or not.
"Come on," Dean said as he pulled away. "Let's get this done."
They mixed the three bloods in a bowl and Sam poured them over the bone. No spell. No incantation. No lighting, or explosions. Just a bloody bone. They had no idea if it worked or not. No idea if Crowley was telling the truth or not.
They parked outside of SucroCorp. Sam pulled the security camera footage up on his laptop. Dick Roman was everywhere. Literally. No matter which camera they checked. In the conference room, in his office, walking down the hall. He was all over the building, at the exact same time.
Sam looked up when a truck pulled up in front of the building. He raised his binoculars and watched as a woman got out.
"That's the maid from the motel," Sam said.
"What motel?" Dean asked.
"Oh, no. Oh, Bobby, what are you doing?"
"Wait," Dean said. "Are you saying that Bobby..."
"Look, just, uh, wait here."
"Are you out of your mind?"
"You got the weapon, and... and eyes on Dick, plural. I'll take care of Bobby."
"Sam! Hey!"
"Shut up."
Sam got out of the car, and Dean let out a breath. "Shut up?" He turned and looked to Lily. "Shut up?"
Lily just shook her head. She usually found Dean's boyishness with these minor things endearing, but, right now, she was scared. Multiple Dicks was one thing, but now they had Bobby possessing people. It didn't look good. A few minutes later, Sam came running back to the car with the maid in his arms. Lily got out and held the door open. Sam slid into the backseat with the woman in his arms. Lily got in front with Dean.
"Let's get her to the hospital," Sam said.
They let Lily do the talking and were soon able to leave. When they got back to the cabin, Meg and Castiel were waiting. Dean sat on the edge of the sofa with his elbows on his knees, staring at Bobby's flask on the table. Lily sat next to him rubbing her hand up and down his back. She knew he was struggling over what to do about Bobby. Sam was on the phone with the hospital, checking up on the maid. She was fine.
When the subject of there being multiple Dicks at SucroCorp came up, Castiel seemed to get nervous. Dean saw it.
"Hey, shifty, what's your problem?"
"Do we need a cat?" Castiel asked. "Doesn't this place feel one species short?"
"You got anything to say on the topic of Dicks?"
"I can't help," Castiel said. "You understand? I can't. I destroyed... everything, and I will destroy everything again. Can we please just leave it at that?"
"No," Dean said as he stood from the sofa. "No, we can't."
"Dean..." Sam tried to intervene.
"We can't leave it," Dean said. "You let these friggin' things in. So you don't get to make a sandwich. You don't get a damned cat. Nobody cares that you're broken, Cas. Clean up your mess!"
"You know," Castiel said as he walked over to Dean. "We should play Twister."
Castiel was suddenly gone.
"Nice," Meg said. "You scared off the Empire's only hope."
"Meaning?" Dean asked.
"It occur to you every one of those things was in Cas? He knows them. He can see past the meat suits."
"So," Sam said, "he'll be able to spot the real... fake Dick Roman."
"Gold star, sugarpants."
Just as suddenly as he disappeared, Castiel reappeared, playing Twister on the floor.
Dean rolled his eyes and retuned to the sofa, putting his head in his hands. Lily lay her head against his should and resumed rubbing his back. She didn't know what else to do.
