Chapter 100 here guys and gals out there, a big thank you to all of you who have stuck through by me the whole way, and also another thanks for everyone who joined a bit later, you have all made this story worth writing, and kept me going through it. So again, thanks, this wouldn't have happened without you.
Also, and I think this person deserves the most thanks of all, my beta reader LadyDragon1316, she has gone through so much to help me which really means a lot, and has been the reason I wrote in the first place.
And as of today, she is retiring from beta'ing for me, she has too much of her own life to deal with my new chapters, so we reached the agreement that she should stop. I can only thank her so much for what she has done so far, which is far too much for me to repay. So yeah, read her work, it's great.
Brelyna POV
Oddly the entire tavern seemed to empty the moment they had arrived, even the guards that had helped carry Kayci onto a bed rushed off before she could thank them. Perhaps they wanted to give the two some privacy, the tavern owner seemed to have done the same thing too as he was kind enough to give them a free room, and then immediately ran out of his premises, as if he wanted to see something important.
At least she hoped that was the reason, Windhelm was notorious for being cruel to Dunmer like herself, so for all she knew they could have only been trying to help the injured Nord, before leaving to get away from her.
She doubted that was their reasoning however, even in the capital city of the Stormcloaks she didn't think they all thought like that, even if they were encouraged to be that way by their ignorant leaders.
Even if any of her fears were true, which they probably weren't Brelyna didn't care, Kayci seemed to be relatively fine now she was resting, and best of all she was with her to help look after her when she was hurt.
Now Kayci was laying down rather than being lifted from place to place she appeared to be in considerably less pain. She understood it must've been a hassle for Resh to carry her everywhere, but he was a big man and the only one capable of doing it, he could have at least been gentle.
Brelyna didn't want to spend too much time complaining however, what's done is done, and she was sure Resh didn't purposely hurt his oldest friend. He must have felt just as bad as she did when Kayci went down in flames, just instead of crying out he took out his anger on Delphine, who, in fairness, was a complete bitch.
It was clear who felt the worst out of all of them, Kayci. Being in the condition she was when she prized fighting and fucking above everything else must be horrible considering she can now do neither. She hadn't said much either, since the fight the only things she had said were complaints at the position Resh held her. Now she just seemed sad and sullen.
"Are you okay?" Brelyna asked, looking down at the burnt woman's expression and already knowing the answer coming.
Kayci quickly tried to change the subject, not wanting to have this conversation now. "You wouldn't happen to have any moon sugar on you do you?" she asked, even that line of conversation would be better than the one about why she was sad.
"Kayci, I will ask one more time, are you okay?" Brelyna demanded in a sterner voice, she wasn't really going to do anything to the injured woman regardless of what she did next, but she made it clear she wanted answers, and for that much Kayci decided she deserved.
"Do you still like me like this?" the Tsaesci whispered, in some ways not wanting to know the answer she thought was inevitable.
Brelyna's expression softened, "What do you mean? of course I like you."
"Yes, but do you like me this way? I was bad enough before, I was stupid, had a promiscuous history, careless, an addict, unfaithful, insensitive, the list goes on; and I'm still most of those things now." Kayci explained, visibly struggling with each word, and not just because of the injuries. "Just now I'm also half blind, and you can't even touch me without it hurting, what could you possibly want with me now? I can't even fuck you anymore, which was about all I was ever good at."
Brelyna smiled and tried to lighten the mood. "You might not know this Kayci, but healers are surprisingly good at what they've spent their whole lives studying, minus the eye you'll be completely fine and we can do all the touching we like, without the hurting."
"But why would you want to? I've just said the list of bad things about me, none of which are good qualities. I may be good at sex, but nobody is that good as to make them worth staying around despite all their flaws," Kayci sighed, it would be better if after her healing the two went their separate ways, after all, she didn't deserve Brelyna at all, the Elf was far too good for her.
"Well for one you were willing to admit these things to me, and a while ago you promised to stop them, so that's already enough to know you're perfect even despite your flaws. And I know I'm not good at the sentimental speeches, so I'm just going to say this: anyone who cares enough to feel bad for me after having just been set on fire by a dragon, and, by the way they killed it with their bare hands, is already better than everyone else," Brelyna replied, she would have gone in to hug her if it wouldn't injure her, so settled for as loving a look she could give to one eye looking up.
"Thank you," Kayci murmured before closing her eyes to rest, "Go find Resh will you? how long does it take that idiot to fetch me some clothes? make sure he gets something decent too, for all I know he's bought a dress or something stupid like that, make sure it's low cut, and had a lot of cleavage, make it show legs too."
Brelyna had to stifle a laugh, even when bedridden her lover was finding ways to dress slutty, the Elf couldn't ask for anything more. "Don't you have clothes in that travel bag you keep all your stuff in?"
"Unless you want people seeing me walk around in public in my sex gear then 'no', although if you don't mind I guess I could, fortunately Resh was holding everything including my bag so none of it got burnt, so maybe this city will appreciate a cinder of a woman wearing leath-" Kayci smirked, clearly teasing Brelyna now, up to the point she turned red and interrupted.
"No need for that, I'll go find Resh, just stay here and sleep," she stammered, afraid that Kayci will do exactly what she said, the city of Windhelm did not need to see what she wore when in public.
5 Minutes Later
Needless to say finding Resh had quite literally been the easiest thing she had ever done in her life. Not only was there a large crowd of people, and a very exasperated looking Lydia standing at the back, but also a few unconscious Nords on the floor.
Judging by the bear pelt one of them was covered in, the Stormcloak second in command also appeared to be unconscious too. This couldn't be good. From the way she counted it there were at least four knocked out, or worse, bodies on the floor, his bounty was going to be so high. She just hoped he had the money.
That was if they ever managed to get him to stop fighting, Resh was far larger than the average person, and unnaturally strong, so it was understandable if he was just let to go free. Brelyna held onto this thought for a few seconds until a few armoured guards ran through brandishing actual weapons.
'I guess he is going to jail then,' she sighed, seemingly synchronised with Lydia who did the same.
Resh POV
He reckoned he could probably take on those two guards quite easily, even without the need of a sword, but after careful consideration he decided not to bother, he couldn't imagine that getting a ridiculously high bounty in the Stormcloak headquarters was a good idea, especially seeing as they needed to get Kayci to Winterhold as soon as possible.
On second thoughts the whole situation so far wasn't particularly well thought out on his part, he'd be lucky to get out on bail for however many assaults he would be charged for, and if he did the group barely had enough money to get him out. He might as well just accept his arrest now and get it over with, that way they could get to the College quicker.
"By order of the Jarl stop right there!" one of the armoured man shouted, doing well not to hesitate at the sight of the Resh's considerable bulk, but speaking with confidence, "Jarl Ulfric want to have words with you."
Resh smirked, "Is it about this guy?" he queried, nudging Galmar with his foot.
The guard looked at the unconscious man for a moment, his expression unseeable from under the helmet, but Resh guessed it was shock, "Probably, Ulfric sent me down here because someone was apparently causing a 'disturbance'. I didn't quite realise the second in command would be involved."
"It was hardly a disturbance, he went down in one punch," Resh muttered, ashamed of Nords for letting someone so weak rise through the ranks.
The guard obviously couldn't be bothered with this. "Are you going to come with us or am I going to make you?"
The Tsaesci had to hold back a chuckle, "It's okay, I'll go. I have places to be, and I don't really want to hurt any more people in this city."
The armoured man sighed in relief that the would be no trouble and led the way to the keep, Resh scanned the dissipating crowd for Lydia and spotted her talking to Brelyna while watching him, for a moment he wondered why Kayci and her wouldnt be 'enjoying themselves' at the inn, as she usually would. But quickly remembered his friends injuries.
Resh tossed the bag of gold he had won at them, which Brelyna swiftly caught. "Buy Kayci those clothes she needed, you know what she likes right? cleavage, showing legs, that sort of thing."
Brelyna sighed, Kayci really made sure everyone knew didn't she? "I know what she wants. Are you going to need bailing out of jail?"
"I doubt it, I'm being told to meet with the Jarl so I'll probably be able to talk my way out of it," Resh replied, before promptly following the waiting guard.
Brelyna POV
Looking down at the small sack Brelyna decided that she probably had about 200 gold on him, possibly less. It wouldn't go that far, and if she did need to get him out of arrest then she would probably need the full price just to do that.
She was stuck between a rock and a hard place, she could either buy Kayci clothes and protect her nakedness from the weather, and prying eyes. Or stop Resh from being in jail for a night, which could potentially be fatal for the injured woman if they didn't leave as soon as possible.
Brelyna supposed she could sell some of her own stuff, but all she had on her was her own robes, and any undergarments. If worst comes to worst she would have to let some pervert on the street buy her loincloth, but it would be worth it if it meant saving Kayci.
Also the gray quarter was always an option, it was likely that they would give a fellow Dunmer a good deal, if not let one of their own in need have what they wanted for free. She just hoped that Lydia's presence wouldn't hinder any negotiation, the Nords were notorious for unkindness to Dunmer, so many of the Dark Elves were exactly the same back to them.
It wasn't like she could send Lydia away though was it? she woman was pregnant for Divines sake, her hormones could be going wild, or at least will be soon. The housecarl had been carrying it for about a month, so it wouldn't be long before her emotions and personality started going haywire.
Another three months and the bump might start to form, she wasn't really sure whether she should think into it that much due to the fact Resh and Lydia probably hadn't, but she wondered what the newly formed couple would do. Lydia wouldn't be able to go adventuring, and would most likely want Resh around at all times, who probably would want to spend his time slaying dragons and doing other Dovahkiin-like things. He would probably have to considering the whole prophecy around his title.
Either way she would be more than happy to let Lydia stay with her during the last half of her ordeal, and was sure Kayci wouldn't mind either. Kayci would probably prefer it, after probably spending her entire time bored. At the College Brelyna was going to have to do a tonne of work to catch up and the two's only time together would most likely be just before she went to sleep as a tiny 'quickie' of stress relief. The rest of the day would be too focused on classes or revision for the two to do any 'couple-ly things' let alone sex.
She wondered how Kayci would take it, she didn't know exactly what her girlfriend thought, but she probably wasn't aware of how much work it was for the Elf, or how much time it would take up of hers. With the way Kayci seemed so nonchalant about it her lover probably thought it would be just like a holiday. But what she didn't understand was that this adventuring was the holiday for her and that College was an obscene amount of time consuming work.
"What are you thinking about?" Lydia asked, wondering why the Elf had been day dreaming for a few minutes.
"Nothing important. Anyway, lets go shopping then," Brelyna muttered angrily, she hated shopping. Lydia was quite the opposite however, and being the pregnant one she had the final say, and Brelyna knew this very well.
'This is going to be a long night.'
Resh POV
The Jarls halls had at least a dozen honour guards ordered around the edges, protecting the man in charge. Resh wasn't sure whether to be annoyed he couldn't kill the man, or proud they decided he needed that many people to stop.
Regardless of how good Resh was at fighting, or the new sword he had the numbers game would always win in the end, primarily due to the large amounts of archers there were. Superior fighting skills, and a shiny new weapon don't count for much when you're outnumbered fifteen to one.
"What do you want?" Resh asked as he walked up to the Jarl.
Ulfric almost seemed surprised at his sudden question, be collected himself and replied in a rather annoyed tone, "Whatever happened to bowing to the High King of Skyrim."
"I don't bow to many people," the Tsaesci hissed, "And definitely not to someone so undeserving."
"Are you aware that I can throw you in prison right now?" he reminded the other man harshly, "Which is probably something I should be doing anyway due to you multiple counts of assault. Even more so, because of that insult I could just have you executed."
Resh restrained himself from hissing and prepared himself as the guards took a step closer to him, there were so many of them he may end up being forced to shift to his true form if things got ugly. Which wouldn't be a preferable alternative if someone saw and escaped. "Why don't you then? if you want you can try."
The Jarl smirked and waved away the soldiers, "You're just like Ralof said. He told me a lot about you."
The Tsaesci snapped alert at that and his eyes narrowed to vicious slits, "I hope he didn't tell you too much, otherwise you may need to find yourself a new Stormcloak in case he comes down with a sudden case of the 'has his head ripped off.'"
"Ah yes, that's where you come in, you can be that new Stormcloak."
Resh laughed, "You think I'm going to join you people? so far the only knowledge I've had of you lot is making an Empire unnecessarily weak, and being racist to anyone who isn't a Nord. I already had to knock out that bear covered man because of it, and I'm pretty sure I may have killed his brother."
"You think that's what I'm doing? I'm merely freeing Skyrim for the Nords it belongs to," Ulfric argued, "Surely you of all people must know that value of keeping your own country your own race."
It was quite clear what the man was hinting at when he said it and Resh had had enough, launching a fist at the man, not caring how many soldiers there were nearby. Even if he was royalty how dare that Nord have audacity to try to talk to him about his own species, this inferior race barely deserved to be in his presence.
The Stormcloak scrambled away from the incoming fist and barely managed to dodge it as he moved himself away ungracefully. He used Resh's delay after striking as an opportunity to demonstrate his power.
"Fus Ro Dah!" he shouted, sending Resh flying several several feet back to land harshly on his spine. Unfortunately for the Jarl he didn't realise how little that would hurt him, and how much more angry Resh would get considering the type of attack he had just done. The idea of him utilising a dragons language disgusted him and further fueled his rage. Although Resh had to admit, it wasn't hard to see the sheer force behind the shout, however much he hated and despised what it was.
Resh immediately got up and lunged for a second time, intent on making him shut up, he quickly grabbed the man throat before he could shout again and gripped it tight so he couldn't speak, "You say one more word on that topic and I kill you right now," Resh growled deathly low, before feeling a metal blade rest against his neck from one of the guards behind, "Now send these men off, and get rid of my bounty or I'll come back to finish this off. I might even join those Imperials while I'm at it.
The Jarl stopped completely for a few moments before finally coughing to open his mouth, Resh loosened his hands to allow him to, "Fine. Mark my words though, even if you don't join the Empire you've still made a powerful enemy today."
Resh smirked, getting off him and pushing the soldiers swords away, "I don't really care. Have fun explaining your way out of a shameful display of fighting you useless excuse for a Nord, I've seen Nords fight better without even needing to use some ridiculous power to avoid death."
Ulfric spluttered to think of something to say but Resh was already leaving. As soon as he had halfway reached the doors they flung open as Galmar sprinted into the keep. He was swiftly intercepted by Resh however who acted solely on instinct and was clubbed in the head again. Toppling to the ground once more, although this time he would undoubtedly stay down for a little bit longer.
Brelyna POV
Needless to say her and Lydia's shopping trip was awful to say the least. In the only Dunmer operated shop they went to Lydia insisted on trying on all the clothing for herself despite the fact they weren't buying for her, and Brelyna could hardly turn her down, she had been taught from a young age always to let the pregnant woman have the final say.
In the end it had turned out for the best in some way, the store owner was infuriated that Lydia was taking so much time in the shop. And noticing the sort of thing they were looking for he just gave them the sluttiest dress he could think of, for free, just to get them away, after spending so long in there 'after hours'.
Obviously Kayci had loved it, apparently it reminded her of something she would wear on 'special occasions', Brelyna made a note that if the two of them ever went somewhere important together she would have to make sure Kayci never wore this dress but instead something actually appropriate. Maybe she could wear it just this once for the journey, and definitely when the two were alone in the College together.
Brelyna paused for a moment remembering something, "Are you sure you want to stay with me on campus. There's this Thalmor agent there and I don't want him to bring up any bad memories about your situation."
"What bad situation?" Kayci asked, not really recalling and traumatic events she had experienced with the Thalmor.
The Dark Elf's voice grew softer, "You know, the one you said happened with Elenwen. Where she didn't feed you and did stuff to you."
Kayci chuckled, although Brelyna noted it had a tinge of uncomfortability laced into it, "A Tsaesci doesn't get raped."
oOoOo
"-A Tsaesci doesn't get raped. A Tsaesci doesn't get raped. A Tsaesci doesn't get raped-" Kayci whispered, repeating the statement as if it were a mantra, and watching in silent fear as the Elven woman stood over her, glaring down.
oOoOo
Brelyna looked at her, not quite hearing the last part, but seeing the effect it obviously had on her as the other woman was finding it hard to hide a memory that clearly devastated her, "Are you okay Kayce?"
Her lover replied by tightly clamping down her eyelids and straining to keep them closed so she wouldn't have to look at Brelyna, and more importantly, Brelyna wouldn't have to look at her.
oOoOo
"Tsaesci? now we're getting somewhere. I knew there was something screwed up about you when we first met," the Altmer snorted, looking down in disgust at the broken slave before her.
Elenwen folded her arms after laying the metal implement down on the floor, Kayci visibly flinched back at the sound of it clank against the floor. That thing had caused her so much pain over the last few days, and not the good kind. Right now she just wished she was back with Resh and the rest of the group, anywhere but here.
The worst part was that the others wouldn't even come looking for her, when she had first been with the Thalmor woman it was all consensual, so the others still believed it was that way now, despite not having seen her for so long.
oOoOo
"Kayci!" Brelyna snapped at her, jolting her out of whatever uncomfortable memory had brought the seemingly unfazeable woman before to tears. "What were you thinking about?"
The Tsaesci merely waved off her question however, "It doesn't matter, it's not an issue."
"It does matter Kayci, now tell me what it was that makes you so upset," she said, not asking this time, if something bothered her that much Brelyna needed to know what it was, maybe she could have made it better.
"No," she stated bluntly. "There really isn't anything the matter." Kayci knew now that what had happened between her and the Thalmor woman had obviously been a serious miscommunication on her part. It was her own fault really, she should've thought of a safeword, or told the Elf beforehand that she wasn't into such hardcore stuff as starvation, torture or lack of lubrication.
Regardless of that it was all consensual, even if there were parts Kayci didn't enjoy, she could never tell anyone that though, they would just think the woman raped her, and Resh would get all angry and curse vengeance on everything, something Kayci couldn't really be bothered to listen to. She could see their viewpoint though, hell, she would have agreed with them when it was actually happening, but looking back on it, it seemed so silly of her to have thought of it as an issue.
"I don't believe that," Brelyna replied quietly, not liking how damaged she was acting.
"Well it doesn't fucking matter what you believe does it?" Kayci snapped at her comment, and growling angrily. "Just go away and find somewhere else to sleep."
Brelyna sighed, but moved to leave anyway, trying to stay wouldn't make the situation any better. But she vowed to find out whatever it was that was making Kayci act so strange, it was obviously a big deal, regardless of Kayci's dismissal. And Brelyna was determined to make it better for her.
So, who here would've guess Kayci of all people was going to be in denial about trauma? Not me, even when I was writing it I was shocked, thinking "but Kayci's so badass thats so surprising!"
