Lily clung tightly to Dean as they kissed goodbye in the bedroom.
"I hate letting you go," she said.
"You don't think I'd rather be here with the mother of my child?"
"You're gonna miss the first doctor appointment."
"It's okay... There will be more, I'm sure."
"Yes, there will. I'm gonna miss you," she said, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"I'll miss you, too, sweetheart... and the little one," he said, putting his hand to her stomach. "Take care of her, okay?"
"You know I will, Dean."
Dean gave her another kiss and turned to leave. Lily followed him to the front door and watched as he waved and closed it behind him.
The night before, Sam found activity that looked like demon deals in Indiana. It was close, if Lily needed them to come home. They just hoped Kevin could give them more information soon.
Dean called Lily the first couple of nights, but not the third. She didn't make a big deal out of it. She just assumed he and Sam were working and couldn't call. When he didn't call the next night, she tried his phone. No answer. She tried Sam's. No answer. Now she was getting worried, but she kept it in check. She had the baby to think about. She had to stay calm.
Dean finally called late the next night.
"I'm so sorry, baby," he said. "We got dragged into some really twisted crap."
"Are you okay?"
"We're fine. Look, we may have gotten access to something really important. It's hard to explain over the phone, but Sam and I are going to Kansas."
"Lawrence?"
"No... Lebanon. I'll call you once we know what we're dealing with."
"Okay."
Lily didn't remind him about the doctor appointment the next day. She didn't want him to have that on his mind if he was going into something dangerous.
She sat in the cold room, waiting for the results. She wanted this baby. There was no doubt in her mind. The shock and fear she felt the last time wasn't there. The results had to come back positive.
"Okay...," the doctor said as she came into the room. She took a seat and opened the file. Lily wanted to yell at her to spit it out. "You are definitely pregnant."
Lily let out a breath and tears filled her eyes. She couldn't hide the smile that spread across her face. The rest of what the doctor said was a blur. Instructions and talk of future appointments. All Lily could think was that she was going to be a mom, and Dean was the father.
The next call she got from Dean was to tell her he was on his way home.
"I thought you guys were trailing demon deals?"
"That's going back burner for a few days. I need you to pack a couple of bags and anything you find essential."
"Why? What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong. There's some place I want to take you. Get Kevin packed too. Make sure he brings the tablet and all his notes."
"You're making me nervous. You're sure everything is okay? There's nothing you're not telling me?"
"I promise, sweetheart. Everything is fine. I just need to show you something. Get your car packed. Sam will drive it with Kevin. You'll ride with me."
Sam and Dean arrived the next day. They walked through the door with a let's-go attitude, ready to get back on the road. Dean went straight to Lily and pulled her into a kiss.
"I just can't stand to be away from you," he said. His fingers on one hand worked their way into her hair at the nape of her neck. The other hand was pressed against her back, holding her close.
"Aren't you gonna ask about the appointment?" She tried not to show any emotion as she said it, not yet wanting to give it away.
"Oh, I forgot! Are you?"
She leaned up, onto the tips of her toes, and whispered in his ear. "You're gonna be a daddy."
Before she could back away, Dean squeezed her tight, lifting her off the ground and spinning her around. Lily laughed and drew the attention of Sam, who was walking through the living room with a bag for Kevin.
"What's up?" he asked.
"Dude," Dean said, "it's official. I'm a dad."
"That's awesome, man. Congratulations, you two."
"Thanks, Sam," Lily said with a smile.
"How far along?" Sam asked. Dean looked to her for an answer, too.
"About two months."
"That's great," Sam said. He noticed that Dean was still holding onto Lily very tight, so he held up the bag he was carrying. "I'm gonna bring this out to the car."
Once Sam walked out, Dean kissed Lily again. The kiss was tender, but passionate as his hand caressed its way down her side, finally resting on her hip. He broke the kiss and rested his forehead against hers.
"Dean, when you left, you told me to take care of 'her'..."
"Yeah?"
"You really want a little girl, don't you?"
"Sweetheart," Dean said, putting a hand to Lily's face, "I just want our baby to be healthy and safe."
"But if you had a choice?"
"Yeah," Dean said with a smile. "A little girl."
"Are you happy?" Lily asked.
"I can't remember the last time I was this happy."
"Do we have time to celebrate?" Lily asked as she ran a hand over the front of Dean's jeans.
He groaned and grabbed her hand. "I wish we did, baby. It's a long trip. We wanna get most of it done before we stop for the night, if we can."
"So, what's in Lebanon?"
"It's a surprise. I think you'll like it."
"Do I get a hint?"
"Nope."
"Please?" she asked in her sweetest voice.
"I don't think so," he said with a chuckle. "You'll find out soon enough. You all packed?"
"Yeah. I have two bags in the car, and one more in the bedroom."
"Okay," Dean said. "Finish up with the house and I'll grab the bag from the room... and Kevin from the study."
They all walked out, and Lily locked up. She didn't know where they were headed, but she was with Dean, and they were going to have a baby. That was all she needed to know.
