The next day, the new mattress was in place. Dean and Lily made love that night to "break it in," as Dean said. The following two days were spent looking for another demon deal. By the time they found what they were looking for, Kevin had discovered what they needed to know about finding and killing a hell hound.

Lily and Dean stood in an embrace, saying goodbye.

"Didn't we do this already?" Lily asked.

"Too many times."

"Be careful."

"We will."

The two got back to Lebanon several days later. Sam looked a bit tired. Dean looked angry and frustrated.

"I almost hate to ask," Lily said, "but how did it go?"

"Fine," Sam said.

"Really? You guys completed the trial."

"Well," Dean said, "only one person can complete the trial. I said I would do it, but Sam jumped in at the last minute."

"It's done," Sam said.

"Yeah, and now you have to do the other two... And that one looked like it almost killed you when you said the spell."

"I'm doing this, Dean," Sam said defiantly. "We don't know what this is going to do. You have a family now."

"I've always had a family. You."

Sam couldn't respond to that. His face softened a little. "Well, now you have more family than just me. You have to think about them, too."

Dean looked at Lily, then his eyes fell to her stomach. Lily could almost see the wheels in his head turning, trying to figure out how to keep Sam safe from the trials while keeping himself safe for Lily and the baby.

"I can do this, Dean," Sam said. "I can. You just have to trust me."

"It's not that I don't trust you, Sammy..."

"I know." Sam walked over to Dean and put a hand on his shoulder. "I'm beat," he said. "I'm going to bed."

After about sixteen hours of sleep, Sam seemed better, but they all noticed that he got worn out faster. Dean kept a close eye on him.

Lily found a new doctor in Lebanon. With Kevin still translating the second trial, Dean was around for her next appointment. He paced around the room as she lay on the table, waiting for the doctor.

"Dean, can you please sit? You're making me nervous."

"Sorry," he said sitting on the stool.

"Not there. That's for the doctor."

"Geez," he huffed. He pushed the stool out of the way and pulled a chair next to Lily. "What's taking so long?"

"She has other patients."

"Feels like we've been in here forever."

"Dean, you spent forty years in Hell and a year in Purgatory, but this feels like forever?"

"I hate hospitals."

"Don't focus on the office. Focus on why we're here."

"Because you're awesome," he said with a smile.

When he leaned over to kiss her, the door opened and the doctor walked in. She smiled at them and Lily blushed.

"I like to see expectant couples in love," she said, grinning. "Nice to meet you, Lily. And..."

She shook Lily's hand and then extended her hand to Dean.

"Dean," he said.

"Dean. I'm Doctor Rizlow. I was just going over your history, and I definitely want to do an ultrasound today, considering what happened with your last pregnancy. That's what the delay was. I do apologize."

"No problem, Doc," Dean said.

Lily glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, and he winked.

"Let's do a quick exam, then we'll get started."

After the exam, which made Dean squirm a bit in his seat, the doctor prepped her for the ultra sound.

"This will be cold," she said as she squeezed the gel onto Lily's bare stomach.

She turned on the monitor and began to move the wand around to try to see the baby. Every so often she would type something onto the keyboard.

"Okay," she said, "a little more pressure now."

Lily nodded, and the doctor pressed the wand harder onto her stomach in certain areas.

"Woah, Doc," Dean said. "That won't hurt the baby?"

"No. Your baby is surrounded by fluid in there, and not very big at the moment. I'm nowhere near the baby," she said with a smile. A few strokes on the keyboard, and she turned the monitor. "See," she pointed to the screen, "that's your baby."

Lily smiled, but Dean squinted his eyes and tilted his head.

"Where?"

"Right there," the doctor said, pointing again.

"That? That little peanut-lookin' thing?"

"Yep. That's your baby."

"She's so small," Dean whispered. He looked at Lily and kissed her. "Did I tell you you're awesome?"

"You did," she said with a smile.

"She?" The doctor smiled.

"He's been saying that since he found out," Lily said.

"I see," the doctor said.

"Can you tell that? If it's a boy or a girl?" Dean asked.

"Not yet. Do you want to know?"

Dean looked to Lily. "Do we?" he asked.

"We'll talk about it before we get to that point."

"Good," the doctor said. She wiped off Lily's stomach and picked up. "I'll get your paperwork together and then you can go. Just hang here for a minute."

When the doctor left, Lily got dressed. As soon as she was done, Dean pulled her into his arms and kissed her.

"I love you, Kitten."

"I love you, too, Tiger."

When they got back to the bunker, Dean proudly showed off the first picture of their baby. They spent the rest of the day helping Kevin, breaking for dinner, then picking up again with the research.

"The second trial has something to do with an innocent soul," Kevin said. "That's all I've got so far."

"Well," Sam said, "we'll keep at it."

Sam ran a hand through his hair and rubbed at the dark circles under his eyes.

"No," Dean said. "We'll keep at it." He pointed to himself, Kevin, and Lily. "You look like hammered crap. Go to bed."

"Dean-"

"Look, man, you wanna do these trials? Great. Be rested for them. Go to bed."

Sam reluctantly followed Dean's advice, and the others worked for a few more hours on the tablet.

"Alright, Kev," Dean said, "your turn. Hit the sheets."

"Seriously?"

"Seriously. Let's go."

Lily sat back in her chair and watched as Dean helped Kevin straighten up a little before making sure he headed off to bed. When he turned around, she couldn't hide the grin on her face.

"What?" he asked.

"Putting the kids to bed, Dad?"

"Yeah," Dean scoffed. "Just handing out orders"

Lily went to him and wrapped her arms around his shoulders. His arms instinctively wrapped around her waist.

"You're going to be a great father."

"Don't know about that."

"I do. You did an amazing job with Sam."

"Dad raised me and Sam," Dean said. Confusion played across his face.

"No, sweetheart. You raised Sam. Don't get me wrong, I liked John, but I know your history. I know how often he left you and Sam alone. You took care of him. He looked up to you... not John. He still does."

Dean stared into her eyes, unsure of how to respond. People rarely recognized the sacrifices he had made for Sam, himself included. Dean didn't see anything he gave up for Sam as a sacrifice. That was his brother, and he loved him. He would always be there for him.

"Are you gonna say anything, Dean?"

"You... take the breath right out of me. Sometimes I feel like I can't breathe when I'm with you."

"Ditto," Lily said. Tears began to fill her eyes.

Dean picked her up like a princess and carried her to their room. He lay her on the bed, and lay down next to her. They kissed slowly, and Dean's hand made its way to her stomach.

"I can't wait 'til you're showing. It still feels like a dream."

"Then it's a good dream."

"The best."
