Dean held Lily close, stroking her face with his hand as they kissed. They spent over an hour in each other's arms. Lily tried not to think about how close she came to losing Dean. If he hadn't gotten through to Castiel... she didn't even want to imagine.
Dean's hand moved to her stomach, and she put her hand on top of his. After a moment, he looked into her eyes and smiled.
"I can't wait for this one to get here," he said.
"Really? I expected you to be more nervous."
"Oh, I'm crazy nervous, but I want to hold her."
"You will... in time. It'll be sooner than you think. You know, we never did talk about if we want to know if it's a boy or a girl."
"I wanna know," Dean said. "Our life is so full of surprises already. I'd like to plan for something."
"True... but this wouldn't be a bad surprise if we wait."
"I know. I still think we should know. You don't want to?"
"Part of me does. Part of me doesn't." Lily ran her hand up Dean's arm to his face. She leaned into him and gave him a gentle kiss. "I'll let you make the decision."
Dean's eyes went wide. "Really?"
"Yeah. It's your baby, too. We'll be making lots of decisions about a lot of things. This one seems to be important to you, and I'm torn, so you should make the call."
"I wanna know."
"Then you need to be at the appointment with me. I wanna find out together." Lily's smile grew wider at the idea of knowing. "Then we can start throwing names around."
"Names... I hadn't even thought about that."
"There's a lot we haven't thought about. Let's take it one step at a time."
"Yeah, otherwise we'll both start freaking out."
"Exactly."
"And we've got enough to think about right now with closing the gates."
Lily sat up. "Oh my gosh, I forgot! Kevin translated the second trial."
Lily expected Dean to practically jump off of the bed, but all be did was sit up a little. With his brow furrowed, he leaned over and kissed her deeply.
"Sam will want to leave again, right away," he said. "I just got back to you."
"This is kind of important, Dean," she said with a playful smile.
"I know... but so are you."
"Come on, you've left me behind many times before."
"Not when we came so close to..."
Dean shook his head and just stared into her eyes. What happened with Castiel really got to Dean.
"Well, believe me, I won't complain if you stick around a few days before you take off again." She kissed him gently. "Let's go talk to Kevin, though. You can decide what you wanna do after that."
Dean and Lily walked back into the library to find Kevin with his nose in a book. Sam was scanning the shelves.
"Did you tell him," Lily asked Kevin.
"No, not yet. I was waiting for you two."
"Good. Sam," she called, "Kevin has news."
Sam came back over to the table and they all took a seat.
"The second trial... An innocent soul has to be rescued from Hell and delivered unto Heaven."
"What," Dean asked.
"'Unto,'" Kevin said. "That's... that's how God talks."
"Rescue a soul from Hell," Sam asked. "Like, actually... Go to Hell? How do you get a soul unto Heaven? I mean, how do you even get a soul out of Hell?"
"We're gonna need an expert," Dean said.
"What kind of expert," Lily asked.
"Crossroads demon. They get people into Hell. They might know how to get them out."
"Crossroads demons aren't usually forthcoming," Lily said, "and they like to mess with your head. Even if it does answer your questions, don't you think it'll have a price? Like your soul?"
"Not if we can trap it," Dean said. "Giant devil's trap in the middle of the road?"
"That could work," Sam said as he stood. "Alright, let's go."
"Let's go? Sammy, we just got back."
"So?"
"So, you look like crap. You need rest, and I wanna spend some time with Lily."
"Dean, I get that, but the sooner we get this done, the sooner it's all over."
"A few days won't matter. It's not like we even know what the third trial is yet. So, even if we get this done, we're still waiting."
"I'm doing my best," Kevin said.
"I didn't mean that you're not, Kev," Dean said. "I know you're working hard. All I'm saying, is this will take time. I wanna take some of that time to spend with my family before we head out again. Okay?"
Sam nodded and sat down again.
"Okay," Dean said. "Who's hungry?"
Everyone lifted a hand, so Dean grabbed his keys. Lily stood and followed him as he walked to the door.
"You mind if I come? I'd like to get out for a while."
"Come on," he said as he draped his arm around her shoulders.
Once they were in the car, she rolled the window down and leaned against Dean's shoulder.
"The bunker is really nice," she said, "but I miss being on the road sometimes."
"I know, sweetheart. Once we get the gates shut, we won't have to worry about being out in the open. No demons on our tails. We can walk our baby in the park like normal people."
"Dean... when did you start thinking about being normal?"
"When it became even a remote possibility. I mean, we can still hunt monsters, but let's get real, it's the demons that kept us in hiding. Once they're gone, we'll have some time to breathe."
"That's true. It's just a little weird seeing you this way. I mean, when we met, I thought you'd be one to die with a gun in your hand, chasing some monster... but now? I don't know."
"Well, isn't that a good thing?"
"It is. A very good thing. It's nice to see you actually weighing risks and not just jumping into them head first." Lily wrapped her arms around one of his and kissed his neck. "And I love that you want to spend time with me."
She kissed his neck again, running her tongue along his skin and letting her lips linger. Dean moaned under his breath, trying to keep his eyes on the road.
"Baby," he said, "there is nowhere for me to pull this car over and take you, so I think you should cool it til later."
Lily smiled against his neck, and ran her hand up his thigh, giving it a gentle squeeze. He sucked in a breath.
"I'm serious, Lily. If you don't wanna get arrested for indecent exposure you-"
"Okay, okay..." She pulled away and moved to the passenger side of the seat.
"What's gotten into you, anyway... attacking me like that in public?"
"You're sexy, and I want you."
Dean glanced at her with a questioning look. Lily laughed and shook her head.
"Pregnancy hormones could have a little something to do with it, too," she said with a grin.
"Well, you sure know how to make a guy feel special."
"Hey, if I wasn't attracted to you it wouldn't make me this way. I'm alone with Kevin a lot... haven't tried to jump his bones."
"Aw, I don't need that image," Dean said, shaking his head.
They brought the food back to the bunker. After dinner, Kevin and Sam went back to work, but Lily took Dean's hand with a grin and led him out of the room. As soon as they were in the hallway, she pushed him against the wall and kissed him hard. It caught Dean by surprise, but it didn't take him long to part his lips and let her deepen the kiss. Clutching the front of his shirt in her fists, she pulled him away from the wall and toward their bedroom.
The door closed and their clothes came off. Dean gently lowered her to the bed and kissed her neck as he hovered over her.
"Dean... Baby, I want you, so bad."
"I want you, too," he mumbled against her neck.
Dean entered her slowly, then set a steady pace. A load moan filled the air as Lily's eyes closed. Dean quieted her by covering her mouth with his own.
When they were both satisfyingly limp, Dean moved to Lily's side and pulled her close. His hand caressed her face and moved through her hair.
"Do I make you happy, Dean?"
Dean's brow scrunched together. "Extremely. Where's this coming from?"
"I don't know, I guess the pregnancy has me feeling a little insecure."
"You didn't seem insecure a few minutes ago," he said with a grin.
Lily chuckled. "Just ignore me... it's gotta be the hormones."
"No, I won't ignore it. I don't ever want you to doubt that I love you, and I'm very happy with my life. I wasn't able to say that for a long time. You're a big, big part of the reason I'm happy."
Dean kissed her deeply and brushed his thumb over her cheek.
"I love you, too, Dean."
