Hunter could vaguely hear raised voices coming from Stephanie's office but didn't know exactly what was being said. Arriving at her office door he could see that Stephanie and Trish were clearly in a heated conversation so he quickly knocked on the door to break them free from the conversation and to bring their attention to Mikey who had gone missing whilst they had been arguing.
When Stephanie had spun around and saw Hunter stood in front of her carrying Mikey she wanted to launch herself at him and ask him what he had done with her son and why he had him but seeing the way Mikey was cuddled into him she wasn't so sure that was a good idea. Taking a deep breath she tried to keep her voice calm, "why are you carrying Mikey?"
Stepping into the office Hunter rubbed Mikey's back gently with his hand, "I found him wandering the corridors and I thought I should bring him back."
Moving closer to Hunter Stephanie ran her hand down Mikey's back gently, "why did you go running off Mikey?"
Mikey moved his head on Hunter's shoulder turning it so he could look at his Mom, "you's fight, I's don't like it."
Stephanie gulped, it felt like somebody punched her in the stomach, "I'm sorry Mikey."
Mikey didn't respond to Stephanie so Hunter rubbed his back again, "are you ready to go and play with your toys again?"
Mikey lifted his head to look into Hunter's eyes, "pwomise Mommy's not mad?"
Hunter turned his gaze to Stephanie briefly before he looked back at the little boy nodding his head, "I promise your Mommy's not mad at you."
Mikey began to wriggle in Hunter's arms wanting to be put down so Hunter quickly bent his knees and placed him back on the floor before he let go of him allowing him to run off. Standing back up he awkwardly motioned for the door, "I'll be going now."
Stephanie didn't respond at all until she felt a sharp dig in her ribs by Trish's elbow and heard her hiss, "say thank you."
Sighing heavily Stephanie rubbed her now sore side, "thank you Hunter."
Stopping in the doorway he turned his head, "you're welcome. I didn't want him to get lost and for you to panic."
Nodding her head she didn't know what else to really say to him, "well thank you, I appreciate that you were looking out for him."
Smiling softly he shrugged his shoulders, "it's hard not to, he's adorable and a real credit to you. I would hate to see him come to any harm."
Stephanie gulped squeezing her eyes tightly shut trying to keep her emotions in check.
Hunter took note of Stephanie's weird reaction but paid no real attention to it as he didn't know what caused it so just walked out of the door. Stopping briefly in the doorway he turned to look at Trish, "if you go down to the ring and want a hand just let me know okay?"
Trish nodded her head knowing exactly what he meant, "thank you Hunter, I appreciate it."
Shrugging his shoulders Hunter didn't see the big deal, "it's nothing, don't worry about it." He then walked away leaving Stephanie and Trish alone with Mikey again.
As soon as Hunter left Stephanie walked over to where Mikey was playing on the floor and knelt down beside him, "why did you stop with Hunter if you didn't want to stop here?"
"He didn't shout. I likes him, he's nice. Are you mad?"
Sighing softly Stephanie shook her head, "no, I'm not mad. Please don't ever run off like that again, next time you may not be so lucky and may end up hurt or lost for good."
Mikey's only response was to giggle softly which caused both Stephanie and Trish's eyebrows to raise, "why are you laughing Mikey?"
Looking up at his Mom with a small grin on his face, "you sounds like Hunter, he said that."
Trish giggled behind Stephanie which earned her a glare from her boss but Trish took it all in her stride with a shrug of her shoulders, "don't go glaring at me, it's not my fault he's apparently smarter than you give him credit for."
Stephanie groaned, "if you love him that much why don't you marry him?"
"Nah, I think he'd like you to do that."
Mikey giggled at the relaxed atmosphere in the room and the words that were spoken between the adults.
Stephanie reached for Mikey and pulled him closer to her tickling him gently, "and what is it exactly that you find so funny young man?"
Laughing and squirming about Mikey tried to get away from Stephanie's tickling but it wasn't really working, "sttooopppp iiiiittttt."
Finally stopping tickling him she helped him sit back up, "so what you were laughing at Mikey?"
Looking up at his Mom with innocent eyes he smiled sweetly, "Poppy wants you to . . . mar . . . ry."
Rolling her eyes Stephanie shook her head, "your Grandma and Poppy need to quit meddling in my love life."
"They just wants you happy."
Before Stephanie could answer Trish jumped in, "we all do Steph. The only person who doesn't want to see you happy is you."
Groaning she felt like she was getting it from all sides, "but I am happy. I don't need a man to be happy."
Mikey frowned, "whys you cry ven?"
Stephanie's head snapped to look at her son, "how do you know I cry?"
Looking at his Mom like it was the most obvious answer in the world he simply said, "I heards you."
Sighing heavily Stephanie rubbed her face wearily, "no matter what anybody says I don't think he is the answer to all of my problems."
Trish smirked, "no, just ninety nine percent of them."
Grabbing one of the toys from the couch Stephanie threw it at Trish, "shut up."
Laughing she caught the toy before it hit her and proceeded to turn it around to face Mikey and whilst holding it by the arms she started to make it dance, "you know I'm right and this bear is doing a happy dance because it knows I won."
Rolling her eyes Stephanie shook her head and stood up, "I'm going to go back to work so you can continue acting like a child if you wish."
Shaking her head Trish walked over to the couch and placed the monkey back on the seat, "nah you're okay thanks. Now things here are sorted I am going to go down to the ring and get a workout in down there."
Mikey's eyes lit up at the mention of the ring, "cans I come peas?"
Trish shook her head, "sorry buddy but not right now. Maybe if your Mom agrees I can come back and get you once I'm done and then we can go and play in the ring for a bit."
Turning to look at his Mom giving her his puppy dog eyes and pouting he stared at her, "peas."
Groaning Stephanie knew she wouldn't be able to say no to him, "only once Trish is done and if nobody else is using the ring."
Mikey squealed and clapped his hands, "bye Tishy."
"Mikey!"
Turning to look at his Mom unsure what he did he frowned, "what?"
Chuckling Stephanie sighed, "you can't say goodbye to someone just because you want them to leave so you can get what you want, that is not how life works."
Pouting he turned to look at Trish, "I sowwie."
Bending down she kissed the top of his head, "it's okay sweetie, I do have to get going so you weren't totally in the wrong. I will see you a bit later."
Mikey waved at her as she started walking away, "luvs you Tishy."
Turning her head she smiled back at him, "I love you too Mikey. I've got my cell if you need me Steph."
Stephanie nodded her head, "thanks Trish. Have a good workout."
Trish waved at them both before she left the office completely and headed towards the ring allowing Stephanie to go back to her work.
