Having spent an entire evening with his daughter and grandson Vince was tired but motivated, he had to find some answers to the burning questions in his mind.
Picking up his cell phone Vince played with it in his hands, he wanted so badly to call Hunter and find out the answers to the burning questions but he wasn't convinced he was ready to hear the answers.
Linda walked into the lounge to see her husband clearly deep in thought. Walking over to the couch she sat down beside him and placed her hand on his shoulder, "what's got you thinking so deeply? You do know that's a dangerous thing for you to do in your condition don't you?"
Rolling his eyes at his wife Vince looked at her totally unimpressed, "this is not a laughing matter. I want to know what Hunter is up to, I just am not sure I really want to know what he is up to."
"Are you afraid his motives will be pure or are you afraid his motives will be impure?"
Sighing softly Vince played with the phone in his hand, "a bit of both. What if he is being nice to Stephanie and Mikey because he has some sort of feelings for her? What if he is just doing it to forward his career?"
Linda had no idea what to say to Vince, did she tell him what she knew or let him find it out for himself?
Not receiving a reply from her he turned his head to look at his wife and when he did he saw the look on his wife's face he always hated seeing, she knew something that he didn't and she wasn't sure she wanted to tell him what it was. Reaching across he put his hand over hers, "okay tell me what it is. Whatever it is you know I think I should know about it before I call Hunter and make an ass out of myself."
Taking a deep breath Linda decided to just get it over with, "Hunter has already told Stephanie he loves her and wants her back."
"But she doesn't believe him?"
Nodding her head slowly she stood up and just paced back and forth a little, "I know we shouldn't meddle in her life, I don't really want to meddle but Mikey needs a Father in his life and . . "
Vince quickly cut in, "and Mikey absolutely adores Hunter. That monkey thing Hunter gave him appears to never leave his side just like Bubbles."
Turning to face her husband she was surprised by how calm he was about it, "exactly. Why are you so calm about this? I thought you hated Hunter."
"I hated the way he treated her but this whole near death experience thing has made me realise that it's not about what's best for me but what's best for her. I need to see her happy again, I hate seeing the sadness in her eyes and I genuinely think there is only one man on the planet that can fill that void in her heart."
Nodding her head slowly Linda went and sat back beside her husband, "then call him. Find out what his true motives are because I don't want to push her into his arms only for him to break her heart all over again because the first time was bad enough."
Scrolling through his contact list on his phone Vince took a deep breath before he called Hunter.
Having a laugh with his sister whilst he did the dishes and she dried them Hunter laughed when his sister dropped another piece of cutlery on the floor, "you know I just washed that shit and not so you could drop it on the floor and make it dirty again."
"Oh shut up. Maybe if you came home more often then your house wouldn't be so disgustingly dirty that you would be worried about catching germs from it."
Glaring at his sister she was only spared by his cell phone ringing on the counter top, "fuck. They would ring when I'm up to my elbows in dirty dishes wouldn't they? Can you just answer that for me please?"
Rolling her eyes Lynn put the cloth on the side and grabbed his phone flipping it open, "Hunter's phone. This is apparently his personal Secretary so how may I help you?"
Vince was taken aback by the women who was answering Hunter's phone and apparently they were quite close considering the joking manner of her answer, "hi. My name is Vince McMahon and I am Hunter's boss and would like to speak with him please."
Lynn's eyes widened when she realised she was talking to Vince, "uh sure thing Mr McMahon, hold on two seconds please."
When Hunter heard 'Mr McMahon' he inwardly panicked immediately pulling his hands from the water and drying them on his jeans before he took the phone from his sisters outstretched hand, "hello, this is Hunter speaking."
Once Vince heard Hunter's voice he felt his back bristle at the idea of Hunter playing with his daughter and grandson's feelings, "Hunter it's Vince. Who answered your phone?"
Well if Hunter didn't think things could get any worse they just had, "oh that was my sister. I had cooked dinner for her and we were doing the dishes. How are you Vince? If this is a business call I will have to just hang up on you though because your daughter would probably castrate me if I allowed you to talk business."
Vince laughed at the sheer panic he heard in Hunter's voice, "don't worry, it's not business and if it even remotely turns business then my wife who is sat beside me will probably snatch the phone from my hand and hang it up anyway. I'm doing much better thank you, how are you?"
"Ummm, yeah I'm okay I guess thanks. If this isn't a business call then may I please ask what this is about?"
Liking that Hunter wasn't beating around the bush Vince decided to do the same, "it's about Stephanie."
Gulping Hunter was worried that he was about to get a lecture from Vince so decided to get in first, "ah, she told you. I'm sorry if I upset her or something with what I said but if she's not interested I will back off I swear but she has to tell me herself."
Vince was glad he was sitting down because if he hadn't have been then he would have fallen down, "wait, you're not trying to get her back to mess with her head or help your career?"
"Uh no, should I be? Look Vince, I know I did a lot of bad things in the past but that is the past, I want to be a better person and I am trying to be one. I have heard through the grapevine that Stephanie isn't with Mikey's Father any longer and I understand that Mikey is the most important person in her life but he is a sweet kid and I wouldn't have a problem if Mikey saw his Father regularly or anything and I would treat him as if he were my son."
Talking with Hunter himself Vince could hear the difference in him and could hear that he was more mature than he had been simply in the way he was talking, "what if Mikey's Father wanted nothing to do with him? Would that change things?"
Hunter's eyes widened, "if that's true then he's an asshole. Mikey is a really sweet kid and any man who doesn't want to be his Father or ignores him is stupid. As for whether it would change things for me then that would be a no. I would just step up to the plate and hopefully be the Father he deserved to have."
"So you are deadly serious about getting Stephanie back then?"
To Hunter all of Vince's questions were a bit weird and he didn't know why he was asking them but all he could do was answer them honestly, "well I am deadly serious about trying to get her back but I'm not going to force it on her if she doesn't want it. I only told her on Monday how I felt and I don't know how she feels about me at all so I've just got to sit back and wait to see how things play out between us but I won't force anything on her because I understand that Mikey has to come first."
Satisfied that he had the answers he needed Vince was going to let Hunter go, "okay well thank you Hunter, that has definitely put my mind at ease. Have a good evening and I apologise for interrupting your time with your sister."
Laughing softly Hunter smirked at his sister, "oh don't worry about that, she hangs around like a bad smell so I'm sure this won't be last time I see her. Take care of yourself Vince and I hope you're back to full strength soon."
"Thank you Hunter, goodbye."
"Bye Vince."
Both men hung up the phone with one of them being confused and one being pleased by how the conversation went.
