Once they exited the arena Hunter led Trish over to a quiet corner of the parking lot before he took a seat on the curb, "are you sure you can't just forget what you saw and we both move on like nothing happened?"
Taking a seat next to him on the curb she shook her head, "most definitely not Hunter. You know I agree that you have changed and I am one of your biggest supporters now but even I can't look past your hand being inside of Stephanie's laptop bag when she was not in the room. If you tell me you were just replacing a pen then I will call bullshit on the story right to your face, you wouldn't need to go inside her laptop bag to do that as you could have just left it on her desk."
Rubbing his hands on his jeans he gulped, "I was kind of telling you the truth when I said I was putting something back in her laptop bag, it just wasn't a pen."
Turning to face him a little she shook her head, "you do realise you are just digging yourself a deeper hole by being all cryptic and stuff don't you? Just tell me the truth and I'll see if I can forget what I saw."
Knowing that he had no other option but to be completely honest with her he decided to change the way he approached it, "not attempting to change the subject or anything but I need to know if you know who Mikey's Father is?"
Surprised by the question she raised her eyebrow, "yeah that isn't changing the subject at all Hunter. You have gone from explaining why your hand was in her laptop bag to asking me about her personal life. Despite it being none of your business I will say that I do know who Mikey's Father is and no, before you ask I won't tell you."
"I know who his Father is too."
Grateful to be sat down when he came out with that she hoped that he was just pulling ideas out of his ass otherwise when Stephanie found out she was probably out of a job because despite it not being her fault she was the only one that knew so Stephanie would understandably blame her. Taking a minute to compose herself she finally answered him, "who do you think the Father is?"
Feeling a little amused by Trish's reaction he smiled a little and was going to enjoy this next moment because her face would tell him everything, "me."
Her eyes widened and she was stunned but what she wanted to know was how he knew as he seemed really confident about what he was saying. Looking him up and down he was remarkably calm, "why do you think you're his Father? Did you sleep with Stephanie after you broke up?"
Shaking his head he was starting to doubt himself despite reading it for himself, maybe Stephanie had planted the letter to mess with his head? Rubbing his temples he was beginning to get a headache, "I read it." Taking a deep breath he decided to just put it all out there, "when I was watching Mikey earlier he wanted to colour in pictures and wanted me to draw him some monkeys. I asked where Stephanie kept a pen as I had none on me and he said in the front pocket of her laptop bag so I slid my hand inside the pocket to get a pen but as I pulled out the pen I pulled out a piece of paper at the same time. I wasn't intending to read what was on the paper but as I moved my thumb to hold the paper so I could put it back in the bag I opened the paper a little and saw my name. I know I shouldn't have done this but I saw my name and thought it was something work related and put it in my pocket to read it."
Shaking her head she wanted to strangle him, "are you out of your mind? If it was work related then she would have given it to you herself so you really shouldn't have stolen it and then snooped at it."
"I know I know. I guess I was just desperate to know if she has feelings for me still and was clinging onto a small bit of hope that maybe the piece of paper would tell me that she still loved me and it would give me hope and something to cling on to to focus my energies on."
Understanding where he was coming from and the desperation that he was feeling she felt bad for him, "so what did the paper say? Was it the millions of reasons why you annoy her?"
Laughing he shook his head, "you sound like my sister, she said something similar when I rang her to see if I should actually read the piece of paper."
She knew the answer but she needed to hear him say it, "so did you read it or not?"
He nodded his head, "after much deliberation between my sister and I, I read it. The piece of paper was a letter from Stephanie addressed to myself talking about that first day I met Mikey."
Raising her eyebrow she was surprised to hear that Stephanie wrote letters but she wasn't liking where this conversation was going any longer, "that doesn't sound too horrendous, well it would be for you for having to read how badly you behaved towards them both."
Rolling his eyes he would be annoyed but it was the truth, "don't remind me will you? I'm not sure if this is fortunate or unfortunate but there was more to the letter than her just saying how badly I reacted and how mean I was to him."
"Oh? What else was there to this letter then?"
Worried about what her reaction would be to what he was about to say he was really hoping she wouldn't immediately go and tell Stephanie that he knew, "it said that I was Mikey's Father."
Trish was stunned, Hunter now knew the truth and he was surprisingly calm about the entire thing, "do you think it is true?"
He shrugged, "I don't see why she would write this letter and have lies in it. What I don't understand is why she didn't tell me she actually was pregnant? I know I flipped out when she lied about being pregnant but she could have come to me afterwards and told me that she had just found out she was pregnant."
"And you would have believed her? Hunter I know you have changed now but way back then I wouldn't have told you either. Can you honestly tell me that if she had gone to you and told you she was pregnant that you would have believed her?"
Opening his mouth to disagree with her he took a moment to respond as he thought about it and he realised the truth, "I don't think I would have, I was so mad with her I probably wouldn't have believed her if she had told me. What have I done Trish? I don't even know how old my son is."
Reaching her hand across she put it on his arm gently and squeezed it, "it'll be okay you know, she will eventually forgive you but you'll have to work your ass off for that forgiveness."
Tilting his head to the side it was almost like she knew something that he didn't and he wanted to know what that was, "why do I have a feeling that you know something that I don't?"
"Because I talk to Stephanie and you don't so I know what is going on in her head?"
"Is there anything you can tell me that will help me? I'm not asking you to break her confidence but something that you can share that will help me will be great please."
Looking down at the floor she wasn't sure if there really was anything she could openly share with him but there was one thing that she thought she could as she couldn't be the only one to know this little bit of information, "Mikey is three but you didn't hear that from me."
Chuckling softly he smiled softly at Trish, "so I haven't missed his first day of school? I have something to aim towards if I can just get Stephanie to trust me and believe me when I say that I do love her and I do want to be with her."
Not really sure it was her place to ask this she couldn't help but feel protective over both Stephanie and Mikey, "does the fact that you now know that Mikey may be your son change anything within you towards Stephanie?"
There was something about what had just been said to him that didn't sit well with Hunter, "meaning?"
"Meaning, are you now mad at her and will you do anything stupid?"
Sighing softly he shook his head, "I'm not mad at her, I can't blame her for not telling me she was really pregnant so I have no right to be mad at her over it."
Relieved to hear that he wasn't mad at Stephanie she could relax a little but there was one more thing she needed to know, "as great as that is to hear I can't help but wonder what your plans for Mikey before were and what they are now?"
Looking at her strangely she made it sound like he was going to do harm to Mikey, "I didn't and don't have any plans to do harm to Mikey if that is what you were thinking."
Laughing she shook her head, "I didn't mean that necessarily as Stephanie would kill you if you attempted it but more were you planning to play nice before but now you're going to play extra nice or maybe are you going to do anything extreme now?"
"Extreme? How or why would I do anything extreme? My plan before was to be nice to Mikey and treat him as if he were my son if Stephanie would actually take me back and my plan now is to treat Mikey like my son."
Turning her head as she heard a commotion towards the arena she smiled seeing who it was, "speak of the devil."
Hunter groaned lowly not wanting Stephanie to get the wrong idea or to know anything, "please don't tell her what I have done or what I know."
Before Trish had a chance to respond to Hunter she heard Mikey's cry of excitement and turning her head she saw him running towards them looking incredibly happy.
