Chapter Thirteen: Jess's POV
I walked back to the hotel. I went up to my room and when I walked in, I saw Drake and Bella.
Bella looked terrified, tears in her eyes. I froze, too scared to move. "Y... your parents?" I choked out.
"They're in the hospital," Bella said quietly.
Anger washed over me and I clenched my fists. "What did you do, Drake?" I asked as I glared at him.
He chuckled. "I didn't kill them, Jessica, it was just a warning," he replied.
I slipped my hand into my pocket and, without him noticing, turned on the voice recorder on my phone. "You attacked Bella's parents," I said, "Why?"
"Bella needs to learn that when she disobeys me there are consequences," he told me.
I glanced at the bathroom door and saw a shadow under it. I shook my head. "No, that's not why," I looked at Bella, "You knew that if you hurt Bella, I would be angry, and make the wrong move. But I know you too well, I already knew what you were planning. So tell me, Drake, who's hiding in the bathroom?"
He looked at me skeptically. "I don't know what you're talking about," he lied.
"Don't lie to me," I snapped.
Drake scowled. "You're just as annoying as your mother was," he told me.
His voice was a little louder than it should've been and my eyes widened.
The bathroom door opened and Martha and Ryan ran out; Ryan grabbed me in a choke hold and pressed a gun against my temple.
"You're really going to kill me?" I asked, "After I told the police about you and gave them the file you wrote about me? It'll only bring up more questions."
Drake smirked and took out a piece of paper, handing to Martha. "Oh but nobody will suspect me," he said as Martha showed me the piece of paper.
It was a typed letter, with my signature at the bottom. "No one will believe I killed myself," I said as I looked up from the letter.
"Oh really?" Drake questioned, "It's not possible for a depressed, emotionally unstable, teenage girl whose parents were murdered to commit suicide?"
It was likely. The way I had been acting... it wasn't impossible to believe. "Where would I have gotten the gun?" I asked.
"The gun used to kill your parents went missing from the evidence locker right after you left the police station," he said.
"Looks like you've got this all planned out," I swallowed nervously, "But I want to know one thing, why did you kill my parents? Why did you choose my family to hurt?"
He smiled wickedly. "Your friends betrayed you when you were twelve, you were having trouble trusting anyone, you were already cracking, I didn't have to do much to break you. And with your backround of karate, you would've been the perfect prodigy," he explained.
I heard someone talking in the hallway and recognized the voice. I gave a half smile. "You're smart, Drake," I said, "Too bad I'm smarter."
I kicked Ryan and got out of his grip, grabbing the gun from him. I pointed the gun at Drake. I backed up to the door and opened it. The Chief of Police and a few other officers entered the room.
"Thank you for getting here oh so quickly," I said sarcastically as I glared at the Chief.
"I apologize," he replied, "I heard part of your conversation. Officers, bring Mr. Baker in for questioning."
I took out my phone and turned off the recorder.
Bella, Ryan, and Martha looked relieved. "I am so sorry, Jess," Ryan apologized.
"I am too," Martha said, "Can you ever forgive us?"
"Of course I can," I told them, then looked at Bella, "Are you ok?"
It took her a minute to process the question and she said quietly, "...Yeah."
She was breathing heavily and looked pale.
I motioned for her to follow me out into the hall, away from everyone else.
I crossed my arms and looked at her. "I know you're not ok," I said gently, "You don't have to hide your emotions around me."
"It's what you do, isn't it?" she asked.
"Yes, and it's my mistake," I replied. I sighed and put a hand on her shoulder, "I've been through this, Bella, I know what you're feeling, I know it's hard. But I can help you if you just let me."
I glanced at the ground, realizing that I was trying to get Bella to do exactly what I refused to do.
"It's ok, Bella, you don't have to tell me," I told her.
I went to talk to the Chief. "I recorded my conversation with Drake," I said as I handed him my phone, "He admits that he killed my parents."
"Thank you, Miss. Wasabi," he replied.
I nodded and someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around and saw Bella and I walked back to the hall with her.
"I'm really scared," she said.
I sat on the ground with my back against the wall and she sat next to me. "And that's ok," I told her, "But you don't have to worry about Drake anymore, he can't hurt you now."
"How do you know that?" she asked quietly.
"Well, I don't, but-"
"Then he could hurt me again," she interrupted.
I closed my eyes, an amused smile on my lips. "Now I know what Jack has to deal with," I mumbled, "Bella, there's more evidence against Drake, just think positive. He'll be locked up real soon, for the rest of his life."
"Jess, can we talk?" someone asked.
I looked up and saw Jack then looked back at Bella. "Are you going to be ok?" I asked gently.
She smiled at me and said, "Yeah, thank you."
I returned the smile and stood up, pulling Jack further down the hall. "When we were talking at your old house, you said 'people Drake either killed or forced to do his dirty work', but you never told me, who is Drake?" he asked.
I was quiet for a few minutes. I leaned against the wall, crossing my arms. "Drake is my stepdad," I told him, "He um, he killed my parents and..." I looked at the ground, and glanced back at Bella, "He also killed many other people."
"That's what I thought, I'm so sorry Jess," he said as he hugged me protected.
On instinct, I pushed him away. "I need some time to think about everything that's happened," I said, "I'll talk to you later, ok?"
"Yeah," he replied and gave me a reassuring smile.
Half an hour later, I was down at the pool. I floated on my back in the water with my eyes closed.
The door to the pool opened and I opened my eyes. My heart raced when I saw Jack. "What are you doing here?" I asked him nervously.
"I was going to swim," he replied slowly, "I didn't know you were here."
I walked to the stairs and got out of the pool. "Jack, there's one more thing you should know about my past," I started, taking in a deep breath, "Drake, he didn't just kill my parents he... um..."
He looked at me with understanding eyes and said, "You don't have to tell me, Jess."
"I know, but I want to," I swallowed and turned around, "Drake physically abused me..."
He was quiet, I could feel his eyes on me, looking at the scars that were on my back. "I... I..." he stuttered, "How long...?"
"Two and a half years," I said, I turned back around to face him, "Now you know why I keep my past a secret, it's too hard to tell."
"I'm so sorry," Jack said quietly, "Is that what Kai almost told me?"
"Yeah," I replied with a shaky, "But I wasn't ready for anyone else to know... and please, don't tell the others."
"I won't, I promise," he took my hand and pulled in to a comforting hug.
"Thank you," I whispered and hugged him tightly.
-The Next Day-
Kim was one of the finalists in the championship and we were waiting for the tournament to begin.
"Good luck, Kim," I said as I smiled at her.
"Thanks," she replied, returning the smile.
I went to sit down and Jack joined me a few minutes later.
The tournament began and Kim started with a low spin kick, which was easily dodged by her opponent.
I glanced at the entrance and saw Kai walk in. I nudged Jack and motioned towards Kai. Jack glared at his cousin.
"I'll be right back," I told Jack.
I stood up and walked up to Kai. "What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I..." he closed his eyes for a minute, "I was stupid, ok? I never wanted to hurt you but, Drake threatened me. I shouldn't have listened to him, I'm sorry."
I didn't reply, I just looked at him with a hurt expression on my face.
He took my hands gently but I pulled away, crossing my arms. "You were willing to kill both me and your cousin just because Drake threatened you?"
"You know what he's like, Jess!" he protested, "What would you have done?"
I looked at the ground. "I probably would've turned psycho and done the same thing..." I mumbled and sighed, "I won't hold it against you but I don't want to be your friend either."
"That seems fair," Kai said.
I stood there awkwardly. "Ok, well I should get back to the tournament," I told him.
"Ok, talk to you later?" he asked.
"Uh, I don't... think so, Kai," I replied and went back to my seat.
Right when I sat down, the tournament was over. "I missed it?" I asked in disappointment, "How did she do?"
"She lost," Jack replied solemnly, "...What did Kai want?"
"Uh, he said that he never wanted to hurt me, Drake had threatened him," I said and looked at Kim, who was congratulating her opponent.
"What did you say?" Jack asked.
"I told him that I wouldn't hold it against him, but I don't want to be friends with him either," I replied and stood up.
I walked up to Kim. "Sorry about the competition, Kim," I said.
She looked a little disappointed but smiled nonetheless. "Oh well, at least I got this far," she replied.
Everyone talked about the fight for a while then Jack, Kim, Milton, Jerry, Rudy, and I went back to the hotel and talked for a while we ate lunch.
The next day, we were at the airport, boarding the plane that would take us back to Seaford. Jack and I sat next to us, he held my hand and I smiled at him.
"About my uncle," I started, "I'll tell him about Drake and my parents when we get back to Seaford."
"Ok," Jack said.
"And... I was wondering, where does this leave us?" I asked, "Relationship wise, I mean."
"Well, I'd say we've moved on from the 'just dating' stage to... boyfriend/girlfriend?" he replied with a smile.
My cheeks reddened slightly and I smiled. "I'd say that sounds good to me," I said.
He put his arm around me and I looked out the window as the plane took off, knowing I'd be back in a month for Drake's trial.
I would never be the same as I was before everything happened, but I would finally be able to let go of it and move on.
Yes! It's finally done! That's the last chapter! :D
Anyway, I was thinking about having one more story to go with this so this would be a trilogy. It would start with Jess leaving Seaford and then it would turn in to a future fic. And, all you Kick fans, don't worry because Jack and Kim will end up together, I have a plan. ;)
So what do you think about that? I'd also need someone that Jess ends Up with. But to write that story I need at least two 'yes' or two 'no' if you don't want me to.
Also, I would still have Jess in a few smaller stories because I need to have an OC in there so I feel like I don't have so many boundaries, ya know?
And, I just started writing the first chapter of 'Trapped Inside' if you've read my profile, then you know what that's about. It's a Once Upon a Time/Kickin' It crossover, I'm hoping to have the first chapter up soon.
And one last thing, review!
Have a blessed day.
