Friday morning arrived and from the second she woke up Stephanie's stomach was tied into a million tiny little knots and she felt sick. Climbing out of bed she went to have a long hot shower before Mikey woke up.
When she got out of the shower she walked into her bedroom and started looking through her closet for something to wear for the day but in the end settled for a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. As she placed the clothes on the bed her phone started to ring so reaching over she picked it up quickly, "good morning Mom."
Linda laughed at her greeting, "how did you know it was me?"
"Well no other sane person would be up this early in the morning and you did say you'd call this morning to arrange the details for tonight so I figured it would have to be you. Are you and Dad still okay with watching Mikey tonight?"
Smiling softly they were more than okay with it, they were actually really looking forward to it, "yes we are, we are both really looking forward to it. Do you want us to pick him up or will you drop him off?"
Carefully pulling her jeans on Stephanie held the phone between her ear and her shoulder, "I was thinking that I'd drop him off at yours about half past six."
Shocked by how little time she was giving herself Linda shook her head, "I think you should drop him off a little earlier so you can give yourself time to get ready. Why don't you drop Mikey off about five and then it will give you plenty of time to get ready for your date so you're not rushing?"
"You think I need two hours to get ready?"
Rolling her eyes that was not what Linda meant and she had a feeling Stephanie knew it, "I didn't mean that and you know it. Just do as I say and everything will be okay."
Sighing softly Stephanie knew her Mom was right but she was just stalling the preparations, "you're right I guess. Will you be home by five?"
"I may be but I may not be, I will definitely be home by six though and I am certain your Dad is well enough to watch Mikey all by himself for an hour so don't even think about using that as an excuse. Are you ready for tonight?"
Moving to quickly pull on her shirt before she walked to her vanity table to brush her hair through, "not really. I am so nervous right now I feel sick and there's still like twelve hours to go but I'm not going to pull out . . . maybe."
Linda laughed at her daughter, "you'll be fine, I believe in you. What are you going to wear?"
"I was thinking my little black dress, you can't go wrong with a little black dress right?"
Smiling softly if it was the dress Linda was thinking of she would look amazing, "I think that is a great idea, keep it simple but elegant. I've got to get going but if you need anything then call me and if not then I'll see Mikey and maybe you tonight."
"Bye Mom."
Standing up Stephanie made her bed before she made her way downstairs surprised that Mikey was apparently still fast asleep.
It was four o'clock and Stephanie was finishing off a bag of Mikey's things for his overnight stay with his Grandparents whilst he sat on his bed watching her, "Mommy."
Lifting her head she stopped packing and gave him her full attention, "yes baby, what is it?"
Tilting his head to the side as he studied her the words just came out, "you's quiet. You miss me 'night?"
Sitting down next to him she slipped her arm around his shoulder pulling him close to her, "of course I will baby. Mommy always misses you when we're not together because you're my baby boy and my number one."
Lifting his head to look at her he smiled, "I miss you too."
Pressing a soft kiss to the top of his head she smiled, "good, I'm happy to hear it. Let's get this bag packed and get you to Grandma and Poppy's before they ring to find out where you are."
Mikey could only giggle as his Mom got back up and went back to packing the bag until she was all done.
It was just after five when they pulled into her parent's driveway, it was starting to get real now. As she opened the back door and helped Mikey out she drank every part of him in, "you promise to be good for them okay?"
Smiling brightly he nodded his head, "pwomise."
As she shut the door and went to the trunk to get the bag she watched as her son ran straight to the front door and patiently waited for her. Surprised by his patience she shut the trunk slinging the bag over her shoulder following him to the door but was surprised when the front door swung open and her Dad stood in front of her before Mikey attached himself to his legs.
Bending down Vince gave his Grandson a big hug, "hey there little man. Why don't you go and get comfortable in the lounge whilst Poppy listens to your Mom give him a ten hour lecture."
Giggling Mikey let go of his Poppy and ran into the lounge with his monkeys to wait for him.
Arriving at the doorstep just as Mikey ran off Stephanie hugged her Dad, "hey. Is Mom home?"
"Not yet she's not but she'll be home soon, I promise. Are you excited for your date?"
Surprised by how calm he was she had sort of expected him to be upset with her but he wasn't, "right now I'm nervous. Why aren't you mad that I've given Hunter another chance?"
Chuckling Vince shook his head at his daughter, "what can I say? Sometimes a Dad knows what is right for his daughter and sometimes he knows when people change and wants to give them the benefit of the doubt."
Raising her eyebrow she wondered how much her Mom had told him, "how do you know Hunter has changed?"
Shrugging his shoulders he wanted to play it nonchalant, "oh you know, us parents have a way of knowing these things. When Mikey's older you'll know what I mean. Don't let me keep you though, go and get yourself ready for your date and have a good evening."
Smiling softly she shrugged her shoulders, "I'll try but I make no promises, we'll just see how it goes. If you have any problems with Mikey just give me a call and I'll come and pick him up no matter what time it is."
Rolling his eyes Vince shook his head, "we raised two children, I think we can handle our Grandson for one night. Just relax, have a good evening and don't worry about us, we will be fine."
Sighing she shook her head, "I know I know but I can't help but worry about you and Mikey but I will try to have a good evening."
Hugging his daughter again he smiled, "that is all I ask. You'd better go so you're ready before he comes to pick you up."
"Okay okay I'm leaving. Tell Mikey I love him and promise me if he wants me you will call please."
He knew this was a big deal for her so he would agree to anything even if he didn't mean it. Nodding his head he smiled at her, "of course. Now go before I kick you out."
Laughing she mock saluted, "yes Dad. Bye Dad and thank you."
Smiling Vince waved his daughter off before he shut the door firmly behind her to make sure she couldn't get in and get out of her date.
