Standing just outside of the restaurant she dialled her parent's home phone because she knew if she dialled their cell phones then they would most likely not answer her call anyway.
Vince had just finished giving Mikey a bath and helped him get into his pyjamas before he led him back downstairs for ten minutes as he wanted to have a cuddle with his Grandma as she had been late getting in from work and hadn't had time to sit down and cuddle with him yet. As soon as he entered the lounge he climbed onto the couch beside Linda and cuddled into her side as Vince took a seat opposite them in one of the chairs.
Looking at his watch and seeing the time Vince knew that if Stephanie found out that Mikey was still up she would kill them so he was hoping beyond all hope that Mikey didn't tell on them. He was just about to ask him to keep it quiet between the three of them when the phone started to ring. Getting up from his seat he walked the short distance to the phone and picked it up, "hello, McMahon residence. How can I help you?"
Pacing a little outside of the restaurant as she waited for someone to answer the phone she was kind of relieved when it was her Dad, "hey Dad, it's me."
Frowning when he heard his daughter's voice he wondered what she wanted, "aren't you supposed to be at dinner with Hunter? Surely it hasn't gone that badly that you've already bailed after ten minutes."
Laughing softly she looked over her shoulder and through the window looking at Hunter who was sat at their table still, "I'm still with him, sort of. He is inside of the restaurant and I'm outside because I kept checking my phone to make sure you'd not tried to contact me because something was wrong with Mikey and Hunter told me to call so I'd try to relax."
Rolling his eyes he shook his head, "he's fine, we're fine, everything is fine Stephanie. You don't need to worry about him or us."
"But I've never left him with you whilst I've been on a date before."
Walking into the lounge whilst still on the phone he shook his head, "yes well he is fine, you can talk to him if you want seeing as he's not quite gone to bed yet."
Frustrated that she left her son with them for one evening and they were already breaking his routine she shook her head, "Dad! You know he should be in bed by now, I can't believe you are breaking his routine already."
Rolling his eyes as he watched Mikey scramble off the couch and run over to him he looked down at him as he tugged on his pants leg, "for pity's sake Stephanie, it's only twenty minutes and not twenty hours. He has had his bath and is in his pyjamas but he was just cuddling with his Grandma on the couch before he went to bed. He wants to talk to you though so I'll put him on as long as you promise not to tell him off."
Sighing softly she felt bad for snapping at him, "sorry Dad. I promise not to tell him off so please put him on."
"It's okay Steph." Taking the phone from his ear he handed it to Mikey, "there you go, your Mommy wants to talk to you."
Eagerly taking the phone from his Poppy he put it to his ear, "Mommy! You has fun?"
Smiling at the sound of her son's voice she felt happier now, "I am having fun baby boy, lots of fun actually. Are you having fun with Grandma and Poppy?"
"Lots Mommy. Poppy says I has to goes to bed in a minute but Gramma says I can has pancakes for breakfast."
Chuckling softly she should have known that her parents would let him have pancakes for breakfast, "well aren't you a lucky boy? Mommy had better get going but make sure you do everything Grandma and Poppy tell you and I will see you tomorrow."
"Kay kay Mommy. Has fun. Loves you."
Looking down at the floor she smiled softly, "I love you too baby, thank you and goodnight."
Looking up at his Poppy he said goodnight to his Mom before he handed the phone back to his Poppy and went to join his Grandma on the couch again.
Taking the phone from Mikey Vince put it to his ear as he walked out of the room, "I hope that we won't be hearing from you again until tomorrow but if he hurts you call us and I'll kill him."
Laughing she looked up from the floor to look inside the restaurant to see if Hunter was still there, "I don't think he will but thanks Dad, I love you."
Smiling softly that was what he needed to hear, "I love you too. Bye Steph."
"Bye Dad."
Hanging up the phone she put it back in her purse before she went back inside.
Hunter's attention was drawn from the window where he was watching Stephanie back to the inside of the restaurant as the waiter turned up with their starters.
Placing the dishes on the table he looked at Hunter, "has your lady friend left already?"
Rolling his eyes a little Hunter shook his head, "no, she's just outside taking a phone call and will be back in in a moment."
Nodding his head the waiter smiled politely and said, "I hope you enjoy your meal." Before he walked away much to Hunter's relief as he saw Stephanie enter the restaurant again.
Walking back inside she went straight back to their table and put her phone back in her purse before she shrugged off her jacket placing it on the back of her chair again, "thank you for that Hunter."
Shrugging his shoulders it was no big deal to him, she looked happier and more relaxed now so it seemed to have worked out for the best, "so is he okay?"
Nodding her head she smiled softly, "he most certainly is. My parents have let him stay up past his bedtime and promised him pancakes for breakfast so he's having a blast."
Laughing he remembered those days from when he was young, "I think that is written somewhere in the Grandparent's charter because when I was younger my Grandparent's did the exact same thing for me. If he is staying with your parents for the night does that mean you will get to sleep late tomorrow?"
Picking up her knife and fork she nodded her head slowly, "in theory yes, in reality I'll probably be up at the same time as my body is probably programmed to wake up at a really early hour. Enough about me and Mikey though, let's just have a good evening, just the two of us."
Nodding his head he picked up his glass, "I will make a toast to that. Here's to a good evening with good company and getting to know each other again."
Putting down her knife and fork again she lifted her glass smiling softly, "amen."
Clinking their glasses together they both took a sip before they placed them back on the table and tucked into their starters.
