When he finished his lunch Hunter got up from his seat and put the plates in the sink to do all of the dishes together later on. Turning back to the island he smiled at Mikey who was sat there happily kicking his legs back and forth, "I'll give my Mom a call and see if she has any recipes for cookies but don't get too excited as we might not have all of the ingredients. Stay there, don't move and I will be back in two seconds."
Quickly rushing out of the room he grabbed the pen and paper he had seen on the telephone table as he entered he made his way back into the kitchen and tossed them on the counter, "I will warn you now, my Mom asks a lot of questions."
Giggling the little boy nodded his head, "my too."
Ruffling the little boy's hair he pulled his phone out of his back pocket and scrolled through his contacts until he got to his parent's home phone number and he called the number putting the phone on speaker before he placed it on the island and waited for someone to answer.
Patricia was just finishing up the dishes when the phone started ringing and with her husband out of the house she knew she had to answer it. Quickly wiping her hands in a towel she rushed to the phone and picked it up, "hello?"
Hearing his Mom's voice he instantly started pressing the top of the pen with anxiety, "hi Mom it's me."
"Hunter! Why are you calling? Are you in trouble?"
Mikey giggled and Hunter rolled his eyes, "yes Mom, I'm ringing you from jail."
"You what?!"
Hunter couldn't help but laugh at his Mom's reaction, "yes Mom, I'm ringing you from jail. I'm not that stupid and irresponsible, sheesh. I'm actually calling you because I wondered if you had a recipe for cookies please?"
Patricia was terribly confused now, "what's going on? Are you with Shawn and you're punking me?"
Mikey giggled at the look on Hunter's face not really understanding the words that were being said but enjoying the reaction.
Hunter put his finger to his lip to get Mikey to be quiet and he whispered, "shhh, it's our secret."
Having heard the giggling on the other end of the phone she was convinced that her son wasn't alone, "care to tell me what is going on and who is there with you Hunter?"
Sighing he knew he didn't have an option, "I'm here with Mikey, that's why I want a cookie recipe as he wants to attempt to bake cookies. Stephanie is in a tight spot so I said I'd watch Mikey for the afternoon so please don't start with any lectures."
Raising her eyebrow she would have been interested to hear what he was on about but she couldn't knowing that Mikey could clearly hear the entire conversation, "okay then. Have you got a pen and paper and I'll give you the recipe that I have."
"I am prepared with a pen and paper so thank you Mom."
Rattling off the list of ingredients and the instructions they then said their goodbyes and Hunter went to look in the cupboard to see if they had all of the ingredients before they started to bake the cookies.
About an hour later and Hunter was just putting the cookies in the oven, it had been an adventure making them and he had absolutely no idea how they would turn out or if they would even be edible but Mikey seemed to have had fun so that was all that mattered. Tidying up the kitchen he sent Mikey to play with some toys so he could make sure everything was tidy and he was safe before he pulled the cookies out of the oven when the time had elapsed and set them on the top to cool down before he went to join Mikey for a few hours before he had to make dinner.
As she said goodbye to her final meeting of the day Stephanie walked over to her Secretary and sat on the edge of the desk, "boy am I glad that day is over. Were there any calls?"
"You mean from Hunter?"
Shrugging her shoulders she meant anyone not just him, "well yes, him and anybody else."
Jennifer shook her head, "no, I think everyone knew how busy your day already was so they left you well alone."
Running her fingers through her hair it meant she could now go home, "okay good because I'm wiped out and can't wait to get home to my little man."
She knew it technically wasn't her place but she couldn't help but feel protective over Stephanie, "can we talk about that please?"
Almost reluctantly Stephanie nodded her head, "okay sure, we'll talk in my office."
Standing up she walked into her office before she collapsed into her chair and watched as Jennifer walked in and shut the door behind her, "so what exactly is it that I can help you with?"
Jennifer was nervous, "I know it is not my place to talk to you about this but you know how much I love you and Mikey right?"
Nodding her head slowly she was scared, "yes I do. What is it? Please spit it out because you're scaring me."
"I'm worried about you both with Hunter hanging around again, I'm worried he is going to hurt you and/or Mikey and in all conscience I can't sit back and say nothing about it. Mikey adores Hunter and it scares me that he might get hurt by Hunter like you were all of those years ago."
Sighing softly she should have known that this was going to cause a stir, she could only imagine what would happen when people found out that she was back with him. Taking a minute to think over how she could best tackle this without getting into it too deeply because it was nobody else's business but hers she eventually knew what to say, "trust me I know how much Mikey adores Hunter and I am carefully monitoring their contact. The only reason I have allowed Hunter to watch Mikey this afternoon is because I am desperate and it was not fair for me to ask you to watch him."
Frowning Jennifer wondered if she thought she wouldn't have watched him, "I would have watched him, I would have had no problem watching him because he is a good kid. You didn't have to put yourself in the situation where you were forced to allow Hunter to watch your son if you weren't comfortable with it."
"I was and am comfortable with him watching Mikey, you have absolutely no idea what has gone down between us and I swear if you are insinuating that I'm not thinking of my son's well-being then you will be fired."
Quickly shaking her head she could see the McMahon temper flaring, "I didn't mean that I swear, I know his well-being is your number one priority and I know you wouldn't put him in harms way. I just meant that I hoped you didn't feel like you had to let Hunter watch him."
Sighing softly Stephanie knew she was in the wrong for snapping at her, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap at you, it's been a long day and I am exhausted. I appreciate your words but I promise I am taking care of Mikey and putting him first."
Putting her hand on the hand Jennifer was nervous, "you're not going to fire me are you?"
Laughing Stephanie shook her head, "not unless you want me too, I'm just ready to get out of here now so if you'll excuse me I am going to pack up and leave and I hope you will be doing the same."
Nodding her head she pulled the door open, "I am, I promise. Have a good weekend Steph."
Smiling softly Stephanie nodded her head, "thanks, you too."
Grabbing the things off her desk Stephanie started to put what she needed in her bag before she grabbed her jacket and headed out so she could go home and check up on her boys.
