Walking her Mom to the front door Stephanie put her hands on the door knob ready to turn it, "thank you for watching Mikey for ten minutes for me and for listening to me Mom, I really appreciate it."
Brushing off the thanks Linda knew she was only trying to prevent her from saying what was on her mind, "you know I would do anything for Mikey but the question is would you? Are you doing the right thing by telling him that you and Hunter are dating? How does Hunter really feel about Mikey being his son? Are you sure that today was the right day to do all of this?"
Sighing heavily Stephanie felt slightly under attack, "you know I would do anything for Mikey, he is my world. I don't want to overwhelm Mikey by telling him about me and Hunter being together and about him being his Dad so I thought I would introduce him to it all slowly and start with us dating as that would be easier for him to understand. Hunter is okay with Mikey being his son, he said that he was going to treat him as if he were his son anyway and now he knows that he is then nothing has changed for him. I swear I wouldn't have done any of this if I didn't think that Hunter was in it for the long haul and I felt like he had an ulterior motive."
"Did you two talk about it?"
Nodding her head Stephanie sighed, "yes we did, I told him that I didn't want to tell Mikey that he was his Dad for a while to come and for me that won't be until at least we are no longer going to the arenas and I did push him for how he felt about it all and I didn't see or hear anything wrong from him which is why I decided to do this."
A little surprised that she had been somewhat sensible about it she still had her reservations after the state Stephanie had been in when she had arrived, "are you sure you are doing the right thing?"
Shrugging her shoulders she didn't know, she only hoped she was, "I don't know for certain, how can anyone know for certain if they're doing the right thing? Things have been going well between us up until now and I have to trust in what he says to me and hope for the best."
Linda felt a little bad for giving her daughter the third degree, "I'm sorry for questioning you, you do know I only did it because I am worried about you and Mikey though right?"
Nodding her head she smiled softly at her Mom, "I do Mom. It's okay though, I understand that you need to be certain because you had to pick up the pieces last time and you and Dad have been such a constant source of support for me that I can understand you don't want anything to jeopardise what I have built or how far I have come so it's okay."
Pulling her daughter into a hug she was really happy to hear that she wasn't mad at her.
As soon as his Mom had left the room Mikey got up from his seat and took his plate over to where Hunter was and put it on the table in front of him before he gave him the cutest look he could muster, "I sits wiv you?"
Smiling softly Hunter pushed his chair back a little and picked Mikey up sitting him on his lap, "there you go. You'd better finish your breakfast though because you don't want to get in trouble with your Mommy."
Mikey just sat there contentedly finishing off his breakfast satisfied in the knowledge that he knew Hunter couldn't leave now.
Saying goodbye to her Mom Stephanie watched her leave before she shut the front door and walked back into the kitchen and smiled seeing her two boys sat together, "so did you convince Hunter to stay Mikey?"
Turning his head to look at his Mom he smiled and nodded, "yups. I sits on him and makes him stay, he can'ts leave."
Stephanie had to bite down on her lip to stop herself from laughing at the logic of her son seeing as Hunter picked up people ten times as large as him on a daily basis, "sure baby, whatever you say." Turning her attention to Hunter as Mikey went back to his breakfast she said, "so would you like something to eat?"
He was starving but he wasn't going to put her out, "if you are going to have something then I will have whatever you are having but if not then I'll be okay thanks."
Walking over to the toaster she tossed a couple of piece of bread into it turning it on before she turned to get a couple of plates out of the cupboard and just to tidy up the kitchen a little.
Twenty minutes later and everyone had finished their breakfast and now Mikey needed to get dressed and clean his teeth so placing the plates on the top Stephanie turned to her son, "come on you, I need to get you dressed and your teeth cleaned."
Mikey pouted and shook his head, "no. If we leaves Hunner by himself he leaves."
Hunter shook his head, "I won't leave, I'll just tidy up the kitchen."
Stephanie sighed softly not wanting an argument to start or Mikey to throw a fit, "I promise Hunter won't leave in the ten minutes we are upstairs, he will just sit quietly right here and wait for us."
Turning his head to look at Hunter he was clearly unsure, "pwomise?"
Nodding his head Hunter drew a cross over his heart with his finger, "cross my heart. I promise I will still be here when you are dressed but if you don't go and get dressed and clean your teeth then we won't be able to have any fun today."
Hearing that Mikey grabbed his Mom's hand and dragged her towards the stairs leaving Hunter sat in the kitchen highly amused by how desperate he was to leave as soon as he mentioned the word 'fun'.
When they got upstairs Stephanie sat on the bed and waited for Mikey to pick out his clothes for the day so she could make sure they were suitable. As she sat there watching him she had to ask him one question now it was just the two of them, "Mikey, do you mind that Hunter and I are a couple?"
"Wills I see him less?"
Laughing softly at the question she shook her head, "no, you will probably see him a bit more than you have been though."
Shrugging his shoulders he was happy with that, "I likes being wiv Hunner, you can keeps him."
Chuckling at his wording she figured that was the best she could expect from him in regards to getting his approval for her to date Hunter. Looking at the clothes Mikey had picked out to wear for the day she was happy with them, "this is fine. Now get dressed before we go and clean your teeth and then we can go back downstairs."
"To Hunner."
Nodding her head she smiled, "yes, to Hunter."
Rubbing her face wearily she hoped she would be able to get through the day as right now she was utterly exhausted and could happily fall asleep at any moment.
