Chapter Ten
Warning: Time skip
Let's try to speed things up, shall we?
Sakura's had it.
She has completely and utterly had it with busy little Uchihas that have no time to even breathe. Who knew those damn spikey haired twits actually worked that hard?
It's been two weeks and Itachi hadn't spoken more than three full sentences to her. Now, it wasn't that he was upset or anything, it's just that he flew in and out of meetings, parties, dinners and all of those business allocated outings that she rarely even saw the man face-to-face for more than a few minutes at a time. She arrived at work after him with a driver he had allocated to her and left long before him, checking on him to always see him still working.
Whenever he was in the office, she made it her duty to always check up on him and offer him coffee or something to eat. He would refuse but nod his thanks. Undaunted in turn, she would huff, storm out and come marching right back in to plop a bento box in front of him or some coffee, which he would hastily devour. She would come back later and throw him a smug look as she cleared the dishes while he looked back at her completely unfazed. This was their ritual which Konan watched happen time after time until her eyebrows stopped disappearing into her hair and instead, a sly little smirk became permanently attached to her face.
Sakura watched him work religiously early in the morning till late in the evening, not stopping for a proper rest unless Konan nagged him to death about his health. She never understood businessmen and their struggle for perfection and achievement, but if one thing was clear, it was that Itachi Uchiha needed to chillax himself and learn to take breaks. Maybe even a vacation.
And she was going to help him with that.
"Hey Konan."
"Oh, hey Saku," the ever-efficient bluenette replied, not taking her eyes away from the computer screen as she rapidly typed away. "What's up?"
"I was just wondering, what does Ita-I mean Mr. Uchiha have planned for this weekend?"
Konan's fingers slipped almost imperceptibly on the keyboard and she struggled to maintain her calm demeanour.
"I shall have to check his schedule. Why?" Konan asked, quirking one eyebrow at Sakura as she stopped her typing and opened her planner.
"Weeeellllll, you see," Sakura drawled as she rocked back on her heels. "Iwashopingtogethimtotakeabreakthisweekendandprobablygohangoutsomewhere."
"Say what now?"
Sakura took a deep breath.
"Um, well, you see. I was hoping to get him to go somewhere fun this weekend. He just seems so busy and hardly has time for himself. I just wanted to do something nice for him," Sakura said, flushing.
"You mean other than cook for him every day?"
Sakura turned crimson. "You know about that?"
"Of course I know about that. You think I don't notice the two bento boxes every single day? I'm just astonished that he eats it. I tried for years to get him to eat properly but the stubborn ass just won't listen to me. At least someone finally talked some sense into him. The next thing is to get the man to take a break. In all my years here, I have never seen him go on a vacation," Konan ranted.
"Uh, so you'll clear his schedule?"
"Yeup, cleared. He'll be none the wiser, if not just a tad bit furious. I hope you have a plan to distract him because I've been on his bad side before and, God help me, I never wanna be there again. The man is a snarky little bear when he gets ready."
"Don't worry, I've got it covered," Sakura said with a devious smile.
"Konan," Itachi said as he strode out of his office. "What is on my schedule for the weekend?"
"You've got a casual breakfast at IHOP tomorrow morning at seven and then you've got the rest of the weekend free," Konan said, determinedly avoiding eye contact.
"IHOP?" Itachi asked, both eyebrows in his hair.
"Yes, well, apparently your client is a rather big fan of pancakes. Also, he is requesting that you wear jeans and a t-shirt as it will be a rather casual meeting."
"Jeans? This person is an actual client and not a joke, Konan?" Itachi questioned in disbelief.
"Yes, sir. But he is a very important client to our business and it is absolutely imperative that you meet with him," Konan said, shuffling papers around and still avoiding looking at Itachi.
Itachi eyed her carefully but let the 'sir' comment slide. "How is it that the rest of my weekend is free? I had at least two important meetings this weekend, if I recall correctly."
"I don't know sir. Your other meetings were rescheduled as per requests by the clients. With all due respect 'Tachi, just go home and enjoy your weekend. Read a book or something," Konan said, finally looking him in the eyes and giving him an exasperated look.
"Hn. Why are you still here? It's late and everyone has already left."
"I stayed to give you your schedule and to close off some work I had. Pein is waiting on me downstairs now though."
"Hn."
Itachi and Konan walked down together and Itachi greeted Pein briefly before heading off home where he would enjoy a peaceful and relaxing night.
Itachi strode into IHOP fifteen minutes early in a casual black jeans and black t-shirt. If this was a trick by some simpering twit or some rabid fan girl, he would murder Konan. No wait, he'd murder them and then he'd murder Konan.
It was unheard of to carry on a meeting in a place like this. Nevertheless, if he didn't have a meeting, he'd at least have a pretty good breakfast. He strode over to a table and settled in, ordering a cup of coffee as he prepared to wait on this eccentric client.
"Hey," a bright voice chirped next to him.
He almost jumped. Almost. Uchihas never lost their composure.
He turned and was met with the bright cheery face of his secretary.
"Good morning Sakura. What are you doing here?" Itachi asked politely.
"I'm your client this morning," she chirped as she took the seat opposite him.
"Ah." Itachi didn't bat an eyelash. "Why?"
"I figured you needed a break and so Konan and I cleared your schedule and so now you get to enjoy the weekend. And to ensure that you actually relax and enjoy it and not sneak off to work, I've come up with a list of things to do. The first being to get some breakfast," Sakura blazed on, not letting a hint of the terrible nervousness she felt slip though the façade. Her pride was at stake, dammit. She had to be strong.
"I see. And why, Sa-ku-ra," Itachi purred as he leaned forward, eyes flashing red with barely concealed anger, "did you not think to ask me about this little outing?"
Screw the façade. Sakura decided her life was more important than her pride.
"Because you would have said no," she squeaked.
Itachi leaned back and contemplated her. She was dressed in blue jeans and a white t-shirt with a face clear of cosmetics and her hair in a ponytail. She worried her lip as she looked down to avoid his piercing eyes. Her innocence and freshness was a harsh difference from all the made up Barbie dolls that paraded through his life. To be honest, he wasn't that angry about being tricked. Not by her. He was just a little tripped that they would do such a thing without asking him. Maybe he won't murder her. Nor Konan. Their lives were safe for now. He cleared his throat, calling her attention to him, and opened his mouth to speak.
"Hey Sakura-chan. Hey bastard," came a horrifyingly familiar voice.
His mouth snapped shut and he glanced around in barely concealed horror and noticed all of her friends as well as all the morons that he called friends were there and heading to their table.
"Tell me you didn't," he gritted out as he swung back to face Sakura.
She bit her lip with a shy and hesitant smile but did not reply.
He changed his mind; he's definitely gonna murder them both now, horribly and gruesomely. And he was gonna love every bloody second of it. He put his face in his hands and groaned.
'Oh God! Why me?'
