The children were in the next room watching a bit of television as they finished off their lunch and the adults were in the lounge talking and catching up.
Once Lynn had told her Mom all of her gossip and news Patricia said, "so have you heard from Hunter lately? I haven't spoke to him in a few weeks which is really unusual for him as we normally spoke once a week once he became his old self again."
Lynn didn't want to lie to her Mom so she told her the truth, "I spoke to him a few days ago, he was doing really well."
Frowning she didn't understand why her son couldn't pick up the phone to talk to her, "have I done something to upset him?"
Before Lynn had chance to interrupt the doorbell rang and she had a feeling she knew exactly who it was, "I will answer that once you've gotten the door."
Nodding her head Patricia got up from her seat and walked over to the front door pulling it open surprised by who she saw on the other side, "Hunter?"
Mikey had been happily stood in front of his parents but the second the door open he darted behind Hunter's legs to hide.
Hunter smiled softly at his Mom, "I know it's been a while since I called but I've been really busy."
Smiling softly Patricia was just happy to see him, "it's okay but I think I'm going senile. I could have sworn when I opened the door their was a little boy stood in front of you but now he's gone."
Looking around he pretended to have no idea what she was talking about, "a little boy you say? I've not seen one of those around here."
Stephanie elbowed her boyfriend in the ribs gently not wanting him to go too far so that Mikey didn't want to go in.
Nodding her head Patricia smiled at her son, "yeah, I must be seeing things in my old age but that's what happens when you're get really old. Would you two like to come in?"
Hearing his Mom and Dad being invited inside Mikey didn't want to be left outside all by himself so he slowly stuck his head out from behind his Dad.
Seeing the little boy's head appearing from beside her son Patricia smiled, "Hunter did you know there was a head growing out of your backside?"
Giggling at the comment Mikey slowly stepped out from behind his Dad.
As the little boy stepped out she gave a running commentary, "oh look there's an arm . . . and a leg . . . and a torso . . . and another arm . . . and another leg. Oh my, I do believe it is a whole person."
Stephanie laughed as she watched Mikey attach himself to Hunter.
Seeing that the little boy was really nervous Patricia took a step back, "would the three of you like to come inside or is it a flying visit?"
Shaking his head Hunter gently ushered Mikey inside, "we're staying for a while."
As he entered the house Hunter hugged his Mom and then stood off to the side as he watched Stephanie slowly enter the house.
Walking inside she felt like she was walking to her death because Patricia had yet to acknowledge her but as she walked through the front door she was enveloped in a massive hug, "it is so good to see you again. You are looking so well."
Sighing softly she hugged the older woman back, "it's good to see you too."
Pulling away from the hug Patricia turned to the little boy, "now this handsome little one is the only person I don't know. What would your name be?"
Mikey looked down at the floor shyly and continued to hold his monkeys tightly.
Seeing that he was nervous she carefully got down on her knees so she was at his level, "my name's Patricia but you can call me Pat if you want."
Looking up at his Dad for confirmation he said, "Gramma Pat?"
Nodding his head Hunter smiled at him, "yes, that's your Grandma."
Clearly thinking it over briefly he remained with his eyes fixed on his Dad, "Daddy, I gets Gramma hugs?"
Briefly looking at Stephanie in surprise because he had never called him just 'Daddy' before, it had always been 'Daddy Hunter' so this was a new development but she looked as surprised as he did. Turning his attention back to Mikey he nodded his head, "I'm sure if you ask nicely you will get some Grandma hugs."
Patricia knelt there confused because nobody had explained anything to her yet.
Once his Dad told him to ask Mikey turned to the older lady and looked at her shyly, "Gramma Pat, can I has Gramma hugs p'ease?"
Smiling softly she opened her arms, "of course."
Watching as he ran over to her and flung his arms around her neck she slid her arms around him and held him tightly.
After a minute of hugging her he pulled away and turned back to his parents, "you right, Gramma Pat gives awesome hugs." Turning back to her he smiled softly, "I is Mikey."
Smiling she carefully climbed off the floor, "it is very nice to meet you." Turning her attention to the adults she was going to lay her cards on the line, "I think you two have some explaining to do right now. Lynn and the kids are here but the kids are finishing their lunch and watching some television right now so if you want Mikey can go and watch TV with them or he can meet Paul and Lynn."
Hunter looked at his girlfriend, "I will defer to you on this."
Looking at Mikey she felt it would be rude to just put him with the kids, "Mikey, do you want to go and meet your Grandpa and your Aunt Lynn or would you just like to watch TV with your cousins?"
Holding his monkeys a little tighter he shrugged, "I meets everyone."
Turning her attention to Patricia Stephanie smiled softly, "we'll go and see Lynn and Paul first and then he can go and watch TV with the kids."
Nodding her head Patricia motioned to the lounge, "go right ahead."
Stephanie looked at Hunter panicked and he just leant forward and kissed her quickly whispering, "it's okay."
Taking hold of his hand she squeezed it tightly not sure what sort of reaction she would get when she walked into the lounge.
Realising that Stephanie was nervous Hunter took the lead and started walking towards the lounge and smiled at his sister as he entered the lounge, "hey there old lady."
Hearing Hunter call his sister 'old lady' annoyed her so she slapped his arm, "be nice."
Lynn smiled and got up off the couch, "I always did like her."
Hunter let go of her hand and watched as she nervously stepped aside and hugged his sister as she approached her. Approaching his Dad he shook his hand, "hi Dad."
Paul had sat there silently watching his son enter the room holding the hand of his ex-wife and was just observing them and waiting to find out what was going on.
Patricia watched as Stephanie and Hunter entered the room and Mikey just stood there awkwardly so she put her arm around his shoulder, "why don't you come in with me?"
Nodding his head Mikey walked into the living room looking around in awe, "I likes dis."
Smiling softly Patricia nodded her head, "so do I."
When Lynn pulled away from the hug with Stephanie she turned to look at Mikey, "so I'm guessing you're Charlie?"
Giggling Mikey shook his head, "I's Mikey."
Playfully slapping herself on the forehead she acted like she didn't know that, "well don't I feel stupid now? I'm Lynn, I'm Hunter's sister."
Holding out his monkeys he said, "dis is Bubbles and dis is Monkey."
"Well they're very handsome but not nearly as handsome as you are. Can I get a hug please?"
Nodding his head he skipped over to her and hugged her, everyone was so nice and he was starting to relax being around them. Once he had hugged Lynn he turned around and looked at the older man sat in the chair and slowly walked over to him until he was stood beside the chair, "you's my Poppy?"
Lifting his head to look at his own son Paul raised his eyebrow, "am I his Poppy?"
Nodding his head Hunter was hoping his Dad didn't make this difficult, "yes."
Turning to his apparent Grandson Paul nodded his head, "I sure am. It's very nice to meet you."
Mikey climbed onto his Grandpa's lap and cuddled into him and Paul just wrapped his arms around him and kissed the top of his head.
As she watched her son getting so comfortable around his new family Stephanie felt a little overwhelmed and quickly left the room for some fresh air.
Seeing his girlfriend dart out of the room Hunter turned to follow her but stopped when his sister grabbed his arm, "let me."
Against his better judgement he nodded his head, "okay."
Watching as his sister followed Stephanie he took a seat on the couch and hoped that she didn't make things worse.
