AN: I own nothing.
So so so sorry for the delay in updating. Had a few unforeseen problems. Hopefully, since they've been cleared up, I'll be able to update more often.
Thank you everyone still interested in this story.
Booth and Hannah broke out laughing after their shared statement.
"Let me go first, Seeley. Please?" Hannah asked. At his nod, she took a deep breath. "I love you, Seeley. Really, I do. And, I've loved this time with you. But, let's face facts, alright? We've had fun, but that's all this was meant to be. We weren't meant to be a forever kind of thing, ya know?"
"Yeah, Hannah. I know. I wanna get married someday.." Booth said.
"And I don't." she said.
"I know. I also want more kids someday."
"And again, I don't. I'm not mother material, Seeley. Even Parker, who is almost a teenager, makes me nervous." Hannah said with a little laugh.
Both of them were quiet again for a moment.
"I do love you, Hannah. I just don't think I'm in love with you. Ya know?" Booth said.
Hannah nodded. "Yeah. So listen. I'm gonna get my stuff and go. Just..just promise me something."
"What?"
"Don't take too long to get Temperance. Once you get her, hold on like hell to her. Tell her everyday how much you love her and how important she is to you. And Parker. You are both very special, and deserve all the happiness in the world." Hannah said, smiling.
Booth was speechless. He stood and engulfed Hannah in a hug. "Even if you never get married, find someone as special to you as Bones is to me. You deserve to be happy, too, Hannah."
As she went to pack, Booth sat back down. He couldn't believe it. He was also confused. How long was he supposed to wait to move on? What was the appropriate amount of grieving for a fun relationship that had ended?
One thing was for sure. He was going to talk to Bones first thing tomorrow morning. It was past time for them to be back together. And this time, he was gonna wait however long for her.
Once Hannah left, he cleaned up the apartment and went to bed, looking forward to the morning again.
Brennan woke the next morning early and eager. She was looking forward to going away. Unlike most other times, this was purely vacation. No bodies to examine. No suspects to interrogate. No Hannah. No Booth. Just fun.
Dressing in jeans and a white button up, she went to eat a quick breakfast. Glancing at the clock, she saw there was still an hour and a half before she had to leave for the airport. She e-mailed Max and her friends, besides Booth, letting them know when she'd be back. She also called Angela and asked her to come water her plants in a few days. She put a few more items in her luggage, and her laptop in her carry on.
On her way out, she asked the front desk to hold her mail for a few weeks.
"Oh, and Angela will be coming by every few days to water my plants. Please give her my key." she said, handing them the spare key to her apartment.
"No problems, Dr. Brennan. Have a safe trip."
"Thank you, Daniel. See you later."
Brennan sat outside for a few minutes, waiting for the cab. She turned on her ipod, and an appropriate song for came on. It was Stevie Nicks 'Stop Dragging My Heart Around', and she smiled listening to it. It really did fit her life.
Seeing the cab coming, she stood. Time to forget her problems for now.
Booth walked in to the lab with a bit of a spring in his step. Today was the first day he felt light and free in a long time.
Walking to Bones' office, he saw the lights were still off. Confused, he looked at his watch. 7:45. She should be in by now. He walked to limbo. She wasn't there either. He decided to see if Angela was in her office. He saw Angela sitting at her desk, so he walked in.
"Good morning, Angela."
Angela looked up in surprise. Booth hadn't been to the lab in a few weeks. "Good morning, Booth. What can I do for you?"
Her slightly cold voice shocked him. "Um..I was wondering if you'd seen Bones today? She isn't in her office, or limbo, or on the platform."
"I haven't seen her, but I talked to her. Why?"
"Just wanted to talk to her. Did she say when she'd be in?"
Angela eyed him fora moment. She got an idea. She was going to jerk him around a bit. "Cam might know. Wait here and I'll go ask her."
Angela walked quickly into Cam's office.
"Hey, Cam? Do you still have Brennan's resignation letter?" she asked.
"Ah..yes. Why? Oh, she's not quitting again, is she?" Cam asked.
"No, no. Booth is in my office looking for Brennan. I figured I could mess with him a bit." Angela said with a glint in her eyes, making Cam laugh.
"Can I help?"
"Sure. Grab that letter and come with me."
Walking back into her office, Angela shook her head at Booth. "Sorry. No luck."
"Seeley."
"Camille."
"Angela said you're looking for Dr. Brennan."
"Yeah. Have you heard from her?"
Cam handed him the envelope with Brennan's resignation. "Read that."
Booth's eyes went wide as he read the papers in his hand. This can't be right. Bones couldn't be leaving the lab. The Jeffersonian. D.C. Him. She just couldn't.
"This..this is some..some kind of joke, right? Right, Cam?"
Shaking her head, Cam answered, "'fraid not, Seeley. She handed it in yesterday."
Booth couldn't take it. He stormed out, papers still in hand. He didn't hear Angela or Cam calling his name. He was going to Bones' apartment.
He wanted answers and he was going to get them.
But mostly, he wanted to see Bones. Make her stay.
Angela and Cam watched Booth leave, calling his name.
"Aww. Now I feel bad. I didn't think he'd get that mad." Angela said.
"I'll call him on his cell. Talk him down. Did Brennan leave yet?"
"Yeah. Her flight was at 7 this morning."
Nodding, Cam went back to her office to call Booth.
Again, sorry for the delay. Hopefully this made up for it.
Next chapter should be up next Saturday. Exactly one week.
Review please.
