Booth stormed out of the Jeffersonian, Brennan's resignation letter in hand, and got into his SUV, slamming the door shut. He was panting, red faced, and his fists were gripping the steering wheel so tight his knuckles were white. Looking at the documents he was holding, now crumpled, he made a quick decision.
He was going to talk her out of this if it was the last thing he did.
Throwing the documents into the passenger seat, he drove out of the Jeffersonian parking garage and headed to Bones' apartment in high speed. The whole drive he had a head full of thoughts of Bones. He hadn't spent much time with her lately, and he felt so bad about that. He had seen what his life would be without Bones, and he honestly didn't want a future where she wasn't around.
Arriving at her apartment building, he ran inside. He thought he heard the guard say hello, but really wasn't sure. Instead of patiently waiting for the elevator, he decided to take the stairs. Running up 6 flights of stairs wasn't too much to get to Bones faster. Knocking on her door, he was surprised when she didn't answer. After calling her cell to let her know he was at the door, with no answer, he called her land line.
"Hello. You've reached Dr. Temperance Brennan. Obviously, I am unable to answer the phone, so please leave a message."
Booth couldn't help but smile for a moment. Looking at his watch, he saw it was now 8:15. Odd. Maybe she was just out for a jog. He decided to go back to his SUV for a bit and wait. With one last glance at her door, he walked down the hall to the elevator.
Brennan was having a lovely time so far, despite only having been in Boston for about an hour or so now. Hodgins and Angela had surprisingly arranged for a driver to pick her up at thr airport to take her to her home for the next 2 weeks. It was a beautiful condo, with an equally beautiful view. It was a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom condo on tbe 5th and 6th floors. To her great joy, there was even a library. The room she was in had French doors that opened to a big balcony overlooking a garden.
Deciding to take a walk, she freshened up a bit first. Grabbing her purse, she headed out. It was such a lovely day here. The sun was shining, she could hear kids laughing, making her smile. The street was a quiet one. Spotting something up ahead, she walked a bit faster. Brennan was happily surprised by what she saw.
"How much are they?" she asked the lady. Next to said lady was a small cage of puppies. There were only 3 left, and they were adorable. Brennan had been wanting a dog for a while now, especially after Ripley a few years ago.
"Well, each pup is 75. They are about 10 weeks, vaccinated. They are a Siberian Husky breed. All puppies are healthy, they get along well with people. Do you have children?"
"No. Not yet, at least. Are they child-friendly? My best friends are having a baby soon, and I wouldn't want a pet that the baby couldn't be around if I babysit."
The woman nodded. "Yes, they are child friendly. Very loving, too."
Brennan looked at the puppies again. She knew they would grow into big dogs. She also knew they would make great guard dogs. She'd have company. A jogging partner. Someone who'd love her unconditionally.
"Can I write you a check?" she asked.
The lady looked at Brennan finally. "Oh! You..you're Dr. Temperance Brennan! I've read all your books!"
Brennan blushed and ducked her head. "Yes, I am."
"I'm Linda. It is such an honor and a pleasure to meet you." she said, shaking Brennan's hand. "Listen. I live right here. If I go inside and grab one of your books, will you sign it?"
"Will you take a check for the dogs?" Brennan asked.
"Oh! Absolutely. And, I'll throw in the collars and leashes we got for them. And toys." Linda said.
"Then I'll wait right here." Brennan said, smiling. Usually, she didn't like to give autogaphs, but there was something about this woman she liked.
Squatting down, Brennan enjoyed the dogs for a few minutes. She was helpless to stop the smile that appeared. Finally, she would be somebody's person they love most. She laughed at the three dogs, each one trying to keep her attention.
"Sorry it took me so long, Dr. Brennan. I grabbed the collars, leashes and toys while I was inside. Here ya go." Linda said, handing Brennan 2 books. "I'll get them ready to go."
"Thank you, Linda." Brennan said. She signed the books and wrote the check. "Do they have names, by the way?"
"They do. The one with the red collar is Bayla. The pink collar is Bama. And, the yellow collar is Baby." Linda said.
Brennan noticed her eyes had gotten misty. "Don't worry, Linda. I'll take really good care of them."
Handing Linda her books and the check, Brennan took the dogs and walked back to Hodgins condo.
Angela couldn't help but feel bad. She didn't know Booth would get upset. For the last few months, with Hannah around, he didn't seem to care what Brennan did, or who with. Hannah had become the center of his world. That's why Angela had decided to mess with him a bit. Make him realize what an ass he's been lately. You don't push your old friends aside because you have a new girl.
She went to Cam's office and asked for an extended lunch. She had decided to go apologize to Booth in person. Cam shouldn't have to take the brunt of Booth's anger over her failed joke.
Booth was in his office, mindlessly trying to do paperwork and keeping an eye on his phone when Angela walked in.
"Hey Studly. Can I talk to you for a minute?" she asked.
"Sure, Ange. About what?"
"Bren's not resigning."
"Yes, she is. I have a copy of her resignation letter." Booth said with a frown.
"That's not a copy, sweetie. That's the original." Angela said.
Booth looked at her for a moment. "Okay. I think you'd better start at the beginning, Ange."
So, Angela spent the next 10 minutes filling Booth in. She told him what Brennan said in the cab. How she'd been working in Limbo more and more. How Bren seemed a bit off since the Eames case. Her and Hodgins talking Brennan into taking a few weeks off.
"Okay. So, where is she? I really need to talk to her, Angela."
Angela shook her head. "Nope. No way. I am not telling you where she is just so you and your girlfriend can go bother her. Ain't happening, Booth."
"That's just the thing though. Hannah and I called it quits. I need to talk to Bones. I need her to know I'm still here. I'm going to wait this time. However long it takes for her to be ready, I'm willing to wait." Booth said. "Please, Angela. Tell me where she is. Please."
Angela was stunned. Special Agent Seeley Booth was begging. "Do you love her, Booth?"
"Yeah, Angela. I do. So much. Please..please tell me where she is."
Angela took a deep breath. She wasn't sure if she should tell him or not. On one hand, she hadn't promised not to tell where Brennan was, but felt she might be betraying Bren's trust. On the other hand, here was the man her best friend loved, pleading with her to tell him where she was so he could go declare his love for her, too.
Again, she took a deep breath. She hoped Bren would forgive her.
Hey hey! Look who got her story updated A DAY EARLY! This girl, that's who! Got excited cause it's the weekend. For me that means late nights, warm pizza and cold beer over a poker table!
I don't know if all Husky dogs are friendly or not, but the 3 in this story are based around my cousin's Huskies. They are all a bunch of teddy bears, so that's where I got them.
See ya next weekend!
