AN: I own nothing. Unfortunately.
Thanks for the reviews, guys. Just one review telling me you liked it makes me smile. A whole bunch makes me feel like writing all the time.
If any of you would like to, look me up on Facebook. Just joined yesterday. I'm under the name Onyx Obsidian.
Here is the next chapter in our story. Enjoy!
Booth woke up the next morning and smiled. Last night with Bones had been fantastic. They laughed, talked, she explained things, he tried to feed her pie. It was perfect, like it used to be. The tension between them, that familiar feeling of longing for her, was also there. Of course, it had never disappeared, but he had been forced not to acknowledge it during his 'Hannah' period, out of fairness for her.
But, it was a new day, a new start, and Booth was determined to see this through.
Getting out of bed, he quickly dressed in jeans and a Flyers shirt, hoping to get up before Bones so he could make breakfast. That plan went out the window, however, when he opened his door and almost knocked her over.
"Whoa!" he said, reaching out to steady her. "Sorry, Bones. Didn't expect you up yet. You okay?"
"Yes, thank you." she said.
Booth took a moment to look at her. Bones was wearing a plain white tee, dark jeans, and to his surprise, sneakers instead of boots. She was wearing light make-up and her hair was in a ponytail. She was beautiful. But then again, he always thought she was.
"What are you doing up so early, Bones? Don't you sleep in on vacations?" he asked.
"Usually, yes I do. But the dogs need walking. Then, I thought I'd go shopping. Dad's birthday is coming up, after all. What about you? I thought you would sleep fairly late, seeing as we were out quite late last night." Bones said as they entered the living room.
"Nah, I couldn't sleep late. I woke up about half an hour ago and couldn't go back to sleep." Booth said, watching as she greeted each of the dogs before attaching their leashes. "Would you like me to help walk the dogs, Bones?"
Bones looked up in surprise. "Really? I don't want to bother you. You must have things you want to do."
Booth nodded. "Yeah. Starting with helping you walk these three."
"O..okay. Here. You can take control of Bayla." she said, handing him the red leash that matched Bayla's red collar.
Angela Montenegro-Hodgins walked into the Jeffersonian with a smile. Her devious, last second-off the top of her head-plan had worked. Booth and Brennan were both in Boston now. Hopefully, when they both returned in a few weeks, the silliness and stubbornness would be over. Those two needed to get their act together and finally put the universe right.
"What's got you looking so happy, Angela?" Cam asked, seeing the smile plastered on her face.
"Follow me to my office and I'll tell you." Angela said.
"Oh, if this is some weird thing with you and Hodgins.."
"No, no, no. Just sit down and I'll tell you." Angela said, walking into her office. "So yesterday, when I went to visit Booth to explain about Brennan, he told me something very interesting."
"What did he say?" Cam asked.
"He and Hannah called it quits." Angela whispered, leaning closer to Cam.
"What? No! Really?!" Cam exclaimed, a smile appearing on her face.
Angela went on to explain her conversation with Booth to Cam. "Okay. So then, where is the big guy? I haven't heard from him."
"Well, after he told me that, I may have suggested he take some time off. You know, go on vacation for a bit."
"That's a good idea, actually." Cam said.
"I thought so. I suggested he borrow Hodgins and my condo in Boston." Angela said, another smile on her face.
"Really?" Cam asked. "But, wait a second. Isn't that where Doctor Brennan went?"
"Sure is." Angela said.
Cam burst out laughing. "Oh!" she said, wiping tears from her eyes. "That's brilliant!"
At the door, a very confused Wendle watched as the two women laughed almost maniacally. Deciding itt was better he didn't ask, he walked to bone storage to start his day.
Brennan and Booth walked out of the building, dogs in the lead. They turned in the opposite direction from yesterday, going nice and slow. They walked for a bit in silence, until Booth asked her a question.
"So, Bones. You never answered my question last night."
"What? Yes, I did. You asked several questions and I answered each one honestly and to the best of my ability." Bones said.
"Yes, yes you did, except the one I asked about these guys. Why three dogs that are going to be quite large when fully grown?" Booth asked.
Brennan was quiet for a minute, formulating her answer. "Well, as a single woman, they'll provide security when walking with them."
"How so?"
"Well, a woman walking by herself, or jogging in my case, with no visible wedding ring, a criminal would see a perfect target. But, a single woman with three large dogs, the criminal will more likely pass you by. It's the old 'safety in numbers', except instead of three other people, I'll have three large dogs." Bones explained.
"Ah. I see. No other reason?" Booth asked, stopping so Bayla could go.
"Well, a few other reasons, yes." Bones said.
"Like what?"
"Company for one. I won't be lonely with these three around. Plus, people who have animals are far more likely to live longer. And.." she hesitated.
"And.." Booth prompted.
"And, they're cute." she said, looking at her feet.
Booth laughed at that one. It was so unlike her to say that. "Of course they are, Bones. They really are. But, what are you going to do with them when you go back to DC?" he asked.
"I don't understand." Bones said.
"Well, they will grow to be large dogs. And, you live in an apartment." Booth explained.
"Oh! Yes, I have thought about that. I sent an e-mail to my real estate agent last night. I'm going to be moving into a house, so they will have room outside to play. Hopefully by the time they are fully grown, I will have moved." she said.
Booth was stunned. Bones was going to be moving. To a house. Just her and her dogs. There was more proof that her heart was bjgger and more open than she thought it was. She was looking into buying a house, simply because she now had dogs.
"Let me know if you'll want my help moving, Bones." he said, smiling at her and getting a smile in return.
"I will." she said.
Noticing they were back at the condo building, he opened the door for her, following her up.
"We can go shopping after you eat, Booth. I just need to feed the dogs." Bones said once they were back in the condo.
"What about you, Bones? Aren't you eating?" Booth asked.
"Oh, I can just grab something small later." she said.
"Oh no, Bones. Tell you what. I will water the dogs, you feed them, then, I will cook breakfast for the both of us. Alright?" Booth asked.
"Alright." Bones said, smiling.
REVIEW PLEASE.
I HOPE EVERYONE HAS A BEAUTIFUL EASTER.
