AN: I still own nothing.
Thank you for all your wonderful reviews and well wishes for my family. My brother in law is doing much better. Another surgery this week and then he'll get to come home next week. Hopefully.
I meant to have this updated last week, but I have spent this past week moving here to be closer to my family. It only took me and my hubby six days to find and get an apartment and move our stuff here. Busy six days, though. Once everything gets more settled I'm hoping to get back on a more regular update schedule.
Your reviews, follows and favorites are what make me wanna keep writing. Thank you guys so much for being patient with me.
Hope you guys enjoy!
The next morning, Booth woke to the smell of what was sure to be a wonderful breakfast cooking. He could smell bacon! No morning was ever bad that started with bacon. So, he got up and quickly showered and dressed.
Walking into the kitchen, he was surprised to see Bones standing at the stove frying up bacon, eggs, what he thought were hash browns, and sausage. He couldn't help but smile, thinking how domestic she looked in an apron and her hair up in a ponytail. He was almost drooling at both the sight of this, and the smell of breakfast. He knew Bones was a great cook, having been to dinner at her apartment many times over the past few years, but he had never had breakfast like this with her.
Pushing away from the door, he walked over toward her. "Good morning, Bones. Smells great in here." he said, smiling at her.
Brennan, meanwhile, had woken up earlier than usual. She stayed in bed for a while before getting up, just thinking. She thought back to last night, watching Casablanca with Booth. Then, Phantom of the Opera. Playing with the dogs. Then, him giving her a long hug goodnight. It was, despite the circumstances, one of the most romantic nights of her life. Circumstances being her getting her heart broken by Booth, and Booth getting his heart broken by Hannah. They weren't in a relationship, but she couldn't help but think of last night as a date.
She decided that if Booth was single, as she was, and would be willing, she would be more than happy to give him a chance. Brennan also knew she needed to be more demonstrative with her feelings toward people she cared about. Despite what others thought, she did have a heart. She just kept it locked away tight, so it could never be broken again, like so many times before. But, she guessed that that was a risk everybody takes.
Starting with Booth, she decided to start showing her friends and family how much they meant to her in little ways. So, with that in mind, she got up and dressed in a pair of jeans with a blue blouse and pulled her hair back into a ponytail. She headed downstairs to the kitchen. She was going to make breakfast. She just hoped the smell, sight and sizzle of bacon didn't make her sick. She couldn't cook Booth breakfast without bacon. That man loved bacon.
Brennan was standing at the stove a while later when she heard Booth.
"Good morning, Bones. Smells great in here."
"Thank you, Booth. Breakfast should be ready in just a few minutes." Brennan said.
"No rush, Bones. I'll set the table for you." Booth said as he moved to the cupboard with the plates, and glasses. "What would you like to drink?"
"Oh..um, orange juice, please." Brennan said. "Thank you, Booth."
"You're welcome, Bones." he said as he poured two glasses of orange juice.
Once breakfast was being served, Brennan and Booth ate in relative silence, with only a few words being uttered between the sounds of forks hitting the plates and breakfast being eaten.
"So, Bones, what's on the agena today?" Booth asked, watching her cleaning up.
"Well, I was planning on staying in today. I need to work on my book for a bit." she said. "What about you?"
"What about me?" Booth asked. "If I won't be in your way, I think I'll stay in, maybe see if I can find a hockey game on the tv."
"Oh, you won't be in my way, Booth. I was going to work in the library." Brennan said, turning to look at him. "Would you like to come on a walk with me and the dogs before your game?"
"Sure, Bones. Let me just go grab my shoes." he said.
After their walk, Bones did indeed retreat to the library to write. Booth, meanwhile, was in his bedroom watching a hockey game from the 80's. Truth be told, he had the tv on mute, instead switching on the intercom to eavesdrop on Bones. He could hear the keys on her laptop clicking away as she wrote. He couldn't help smiling.
Booth could picture Bones sitting there. Curled up in one of the overstuffed chairs with her feet curled up underneath her. Those big beautiful brown eyes focusing intently on her screen. Her plump lips chewing on a pen she uses to make notes in a notebook. She'll have to pause every now and then to crack her knuckles and give her wrists a break, then go right back to typing. A bottle of water she'll forget to drink beside her. Bones will rub her forehead when she gets stuck. And, she'll hum to herself off and on.
Now, however, that picture includes the 3 dogs lying at her feet, keeping their mistress company.
All in all, it was a sweet picture. One he desperately wanted to be part of.
And, if he had it his way, he would someday. Someday soon.
Instead of being at Hodgins and Angela's condo, they'd be in a house together. A beautiful, messy house with a kid or 2. The dogs lying on the deck in the back yard in the sun. Booth standing at the grill. Their friends and family scattered around the yard and house. Bones walks out the door, and the sunlight catches a glint on her finger.
The last thought Booth has before taking a nap is 'Yeah. Someday, that dream will be a reality.'
And he fell asleep still smiling.
REVIEW PLEASE.
AGAIN, SORRY FOR THE WAIT. IN A PERFECT WORLD, I WOULD WRITE CONSTANTLY. BUT, IT'S NOT A PERFECT WORLD. IF IT WERE, I'D OWN BONES AND BE MARRIED TO ALAN RICKMAN. BUT, I'M NOT.
