At the reaping for the 69th hunger games, Hebe Cross volunteers, intent on saving her mother from poverty and bringing pride to her district. But when she reaches the Capitol she had idolised for most of her life, the illusion is shattered, and all she has left is the trauma of the games. Direct Variation: a mathematical term for the equation y equals kx, in which "k" is a constant, 23 in our case, and "x" is a variable, standing for the number of Games, of course. It's a perfect equation, but unexplainably, there are inconsistencies. And if they have their way, there will be more. Rewritten into the third person.
