Mikau: Hi guys! I'm absolutely wiped from finals on top of prom season on top of Mother's Day, but apparently I'm really inspired to write when I'm dead tired. Despite being written when I had a bad case of writer's block, this short really flowed. I hope you enjoy it! Thanks so much to everyone who reviewed last time: Bunnyz-chan, patternleap, MeitanteiRose, pokemon maniac, and Assasin8! I really appreciate your support, guys!
Disclaimer: If I owned it, Ayumi would have her own special episode. She's adorable, and that adorableness should really be documented. Just one episode about her own little adventure or maybe an episode shown from her perspective. We follow Conan around a lot. It would be cool to hear someone else's thoughts.

Stood Up
Kaito checked the time on his phone again. Eight o' two. Only one minute had passed since the last time he'd checked. Great. He'd been waiting one hour, forty-seven minutes, and some-odd seconds. He kind of felt like Hakuba, and that wasn't a good feeling.
It wasn't Shinichi's fault, though. It was because the Japanese police force was incompetent…or lazy. They couldn't seem to solve a crime as well or as fast as his Shinichi. They always relied on him too much, letting him do all of the work for them.
Or maybe this was all Shinichi's fault. Well…Shinichi's crappy luck, anyway. He always seemed to trip over dead bodies and happen to stumble upon the strangest crimes. And Shinichi had such a big, stupid, bleeding heart. He couldn't leave well enough alone. He had to stop and help every single person, right every wrong, solve every crime.
Kaito loved how good and selfless and compassionate his boyfriend was, but…sometimes he got sick of it. Sometimes he just wanted Shinichi all to himself, completely uninterrupted by death and violence and tragedy. He'd learned to accept all the craziness as part and parcel to the wonderful human being that was Kudo Shinichi, just as Shinichi had accepted all of the bizarreness that followed Kaito around like a lost puppy, but…sometimes Kaito wanted normal.
Things had gotten worse lately. This was the third time in just as many dates that Kaito was being stood up. Of course he knew that Shinichi would come eventually—out of breath, utterly drained, and in no mood to actually spend quality time with Kaito, but with an excellent excuse as to why he'd been hours late—but he was getting sick of waiting. Kaito had more important, productive things to do than sit around at restaurants and cafés for indefinite amounts of time while the waitresses all looked at him in pity.
Shinichi was the most important thing in Kaito's life, but…Kaito was beginning to suspect that he didn't rank number one on Shinichi's list, and it hurt to lose out to criminals and murderers.
"Kaito! I'm so sorry!" Shinichi called out as he finally drug himself in. "You will never believe what happened. I—"
"—You're four hours late," Kaito informed him icily.
Shinichi blinked and then smiled sheepishly, scratching his cheek in that nervous habit that Kaito used to find adorable but had come to despise. "Yeah…Like I said, I'm really sorry Kaito. I even left early, but there was this really important case that came up, and I had to—"
"—No. You didn't," Kaito retorted in irritation. "You, Kudo Shinichi, didn't have to do anything more than call the police. Seriously, you're putting them out of a job, solving all of the crimes yourself. You knew you were keeping me waiting, but instead of handing things over to the cops, you decided that solving a crime was more important than me."
"Kaito, that's not true," Shinichi tried to explain. "These were some really difficult cases. I couldn't just leave and risk the killer getting away."
"You're so full of yourself," Kaito snapped. "You're not the only one that can solve a crime, you know. I get that you're smart—everyone knows that you're a genius, Shinichi—but just because other people aren't as smart as you doesn't make them incompetent. It's their job. They have all of their fancy-shmancy gadgets, and some of those officers are pretty darn sharp, Shinichi. Evil isn't gonna win if you just sit out a case or two.
"You're an egotistical, insensitive jerk that cares more about dead bodies than your own boyfriend, Shinichi," Kaito hissed, standing up to stare his boyfriend down. "That's why Ran-san left you, and that's why I'm leaving too. We'll see how well the corpses keep your bed warm, necrophiliac."
Shinichi caught Kaito's arm as the magician stormed past. "Kaito, wait."
Kaito rounded on his ex. "I have been waiting four f-ing hours, Shinichi. Give me one reason why I should waste another minute waiting for you."
Shinichi gulped, tears threatening to well up and spill over. He hadn't cried since he was very, very small. "Because I love you," Shinichi whispered, pulling a ring box out of his jacket pocket.
Kaito stood there staring and blinking, struck utterly dumb.
"I wanted to ask you to marry me," Shinichi mumbled, looking down at his feet. "That's why I asked you here tonight…. This restaurant…this table…this is a really special place for me…. This is where my parents got engaged."
With a sigh, Kaito sank back down in the chair he'd been occupying for the past few hours. "Shit."
Kaito took a deep breath, face-palmed, and held out his left hand. "Yes," he grumbled.
"'Yes' what?" Shinichi frowned in bafflement. Nothing was making sense tonight.
"Yes!" Kaito huffed, turning to glare at his fiancé. "Yes! I'm saying yes, so put it on me already before I change my mind and leave your ass for real."
"Really?" Shinichi's face began to glow with that 'crazy in love' look that still made Kaito's stomach go up in knots.
"One…" Kaito began to count. "Two…"
Shinichi wasted no time in taking the ring out of its box and slipping it on Kaito's finger. "You have no idea how happy you've made me, Kaito."
Kaito rolled his eyes. "Sit down. We need to talk."
Shinichi nodded. "I'm sorry. You're right, Kaito…about a lot of things."
"About everything," Kaito revised.
"About everything," Shinichi agreed. "I'm sorry. I need to…shape up, I guess. I've been taking you for granted, Kaito, and I'm really sorry. I'm not worthy."
Kaito rolled his eyes again and reached out to take Shinichi's hand resting on the table. "It's okay. Honestly, we've both got some things we need to work on, but…I really do love you, and I know I'm loved right back, so…we'll be alright. I'll just be sure to talk to you first when there's a problem before I blow up and divorce you, but if you ever stand me up again, I swear…"
Shinichi laughed weakly, scratching his cheek in a nervous gesture that was starting to look adorable once again. "Got it. I'll call the police and let them do their job."
"Good. Now let's eat something. I'm starving," Kaito sighed, grabbing a menu.
"Order anything you want," Shinichi urged.
Kaito smirked. "Oh, Darling…I was planning on it…the most expensive item on the menu…and a couple of desserts."
Shinichi forced a grin, suffering through his penance with a smile. "Anything for you, Dear."
