Chapter 4
Rapid fire conversations were going on all around him so while everyone was preoccupied he glanced around the living room. The walls were covered in pictures of the family, everything from baby pictures, wedding photos along with vacation photos. It was completely different from his house which wasn't what someone would call comfy or cosy. The mansion was exactly what you would assume a mansion would be like huge and rather empty for the amount of people that lived there. His mother was more into decorating with the latest trends and expensive things rather than family photos or trinkets.
On the table beside him was a photo of what he assumed was a baby Felicity sitting in a highchair with some kinda of food smeared on her face and he couldn't help but smile. When he turned back to pick up his drink from the coffee table the kids were standing in front of him expectantly. "Um... Hi." he said not entirely sure what they wanted.
"Mommy says your rich. Does that mean you don't have to do anything all day?" Aiden asked innocently.
He glanced over at Felicity's stricken face, she looked mortified. "Actually I do work I'm the CEO of my families company."
"What's CEO?" asked Brennan.
"A CEO is like a boss. They run the company make sure everyone is doing their work."
"I wanna be a CEO when I grow up.." Braedon chimed in.
"Well work hard and do good in school and you can." Oliver told the boy as the kids all ran off to play.
"So brain, your awfully luck to have met a guy like Oliver. Doing the type of job you do, sitting at a computer all day can't be too good for meeting people," Taylor said grabbing a handful of peanuts from the bowl on the table.
Oliver could tell that Felicity was hurt by their comments, "Actually Felicity's just been promoted, she runs the entire IT section of Queen Consolidated now." He told them as he linked his fingers with hers and gave a squeeze.
"I wonder how you got that job," Anna whispered under her breath with a laugh.
"Umm... Oliver why don't I show you around before dinner starts," she said grabbing his hand and practically dragging him out the front door."
They headed for the old barn so she could show him the horses but halfway there he stopped her in her tracks by grabbing her arm, "Why do you let them treat you that way?" He asked as she looked at the ground and then back up at him.
"Because even if I said something it won't do any good, it's just the way they are. I've learned to deal with it since they are my family and despite what they say I love them and I know they love me too."
Oliver decided to drop the subject since it seemed she no longer wanted to talk about it and followed her into the barn to see the horses. Once they got to the last stall Felicity stopped, "And this is my horse Piper." He watched as the horse stuck its head out and nuzzled against Felicity's hand.
"Do you miss it here?" He asked as the horse turned and regarded him before letting out a hearty neigh.
"I miss some things like the horses, the open lands and the quietness. Especially at night it's loud in the city and you don't get a moments peace. And I miss my family despite how they bug me sometimes." She said with a laugh.
"Aunt Lissy, Nana says it's time for supper." Aiden said from the doorway of the barn.
"Alright we're coming in." She said as she stroked the horses head one more time before she and Oliver headed back to the house.
Felicity and Oliver sat beside each other at the table in the dining room, joining the rest of the family who was already seated as Felicity's mom brought in the glazed ham. "Looks great mom," Anna said as their father went to slice it.
"Did you show Oliver around?" Her mom said sliding into her seat.
"She did, it's really beautiful here." Oliver said in answer to her question.
"It's probably nothing like what your used to being a Queen and everything."
"Well no but I can see why you love it here." -0r should he say something else here
Conversation slowed almost to a stop as the family filled their plates and began to eat, "This is great." Oliver said taking a bite of one of the various casseroles on the table.
"That's Felicity's favorite cheesy potatoes we make them every year." Her mom said passing him the bowl so he could have some more.
Oliver sat beside Felicity but on his other side was Aiden who was attempting to scoop another ladle of food onto his plate as well and since they were all seated so close together so they would all fit at the table it ended up in Oliver's lap. He jumped a little as the hot food slid onto his new pants, "I'm sorry." Aiden cried looking like he might cry.
"No buddy it's alright it was an accident." He said as Felicity handed him another napkin. "I think I'm just gonna go change my clothes." He said standing up and placing the food splattered napkin on the table.
"Aiden I told you to be careful," his mom said getting up from the table.
"I'm sorry mommy."
"Come on, help me clean this up."
"Oh don't worry about it I'm sure Oliver can afford to wear his clothes once and then ditch them for new ones, " Kyle said with a snicker from the other side of the table.
