An hour earlier.

Alex quickly returned to drinking when Olivia left. She polished off two more doubles before the bartender returned to chat.

"That didn't look like it went well"

"That's because It didn't go particularly well", Alex scoffed.

"Did you not like what she had to say?", the bartender actually looked interested so Alex took a break from her whiskey.

"Well no, not really"

"Why doesn't she want to get married?"

"She didn't tell me", Alex was starting to feel sick. Maybe she should stop drinking.

"Or you didn't stick around to find out?", he smiled at her clearly this wasn't his first time consoling an upset patron.

"I can't go back there tonight. I said some horrible things to her", Alex realised how out of order she had been. Why hadn't she let Olivia explain or talk about things properly like adults?

"Well you're not staying here much longer. I'm cutting you off", he took the half full glass from her.

"Fine, but I'm using your toilet before I go", she jokingly pouted as she tried to stand. Alex didn't realise just how drunk she was until she tried to put one foot in front of the other. It took her a while to get to the bathroom. She refused to throw up and instead made an attempt to fix her hair in the mirror.

When she finally emerged from the bathroom she was even more unsteady on her feet. To her surprise someone was behind her and directing her to a nearby chair. She reluctantly sat and tried to see who had just helped her, hoping to see Olivia. Sadly it wasn't, a weedy looking guy came into view. She didn't recognise him and could barely focus on his face due to the huge amount of whiskey she'd consumed, she could however hear him quite well.

"Hi, you looked like you could use some help", she could make out his crooked smile and felt immediately uneasy with his closeness to her.

"Thanks but I have to go, my girlfriend is waiting up for me", she saw his smile drop slightly and his body straighten.

"Well at least have a glass of water before you go. I'll call you a cab" she couldn't help but accept his suggestion and watched as he shuffled to the bar. She tried to watch closely the exchange between the man and the bartender, it looked short and even though the man was returning with a glass of water she was sure she could see a worried expression on the bartenders face.

"Here you go, drink this and I'll call you a cab", she smiled politely and began to sip. He watched her closely, too closely.

Alex didn't actually realise anything was really wrong until she finished the whole glass. The nausea had returned and she had to excuse herself. Her legs didn't feel like her own as she stumbled from chair to table and bumping into people till she reached the toilet door. It seemed like the door weighed a tonne as she used her whole body to push it open. Suddenly she could no longer support her own weight as she fell to the floor. Her vision was beginning to darken and she realised she was going to pass out.

She realised she was flat on her back blinking desperately trying to focus on the strip light above her. She made out a noise, it sounded distant. A door maybe, opening and then closing. In the last moments she knew unconsciousness was immanent, a shadow appeared above. She felt immense fear and then there was only darkness...

Olivia wasn't allowed in the ambulance. She furiously tried to get on but, as she wasn't family, the paramedic would not let her aboard. So now she was back in her car racing towards the hospital with her siren blaring. She didn't wait around to listen to what happened. Olivia vaguely remembered elliot shouting after her as she hurried to leave.

The hospital loomed quickly and within minutes she was hunting the corridors for Alex. She spotted the paramedic from before pushing a now empty stretcher out of the hospital. She wasted no time in pulling him aside for questioning.

"Where's the woman you just brought in?", she grabbed him.

"Trauma one, the doctors have just started working on her", he barely finished his sentence before Olivia was off again. She found trauma one quickly and barged straight in. Immediately she was confronted by an angry looking nurse.

"You are not supposed to be in here", the nurse tried to direct her out of the room but Olivia objected.

"She's my girlfriend. Please tell me how she is!", Olivia was nearly in tears. She could only watch as Alex was being examined and poked and prodded, she was still unconscious.

"You have to leave. Let us help her and the doctor will be out as soon as possible to talk with you", reluctantly Olivia listened and allowed herself to be led from the room. She was led to the waiting area where she sat, exhausted, with her head in her hands.

101 things were running through her head. Had Alex been rapped or attacked? Had she drunk too much? Ultimately this was all Olivia's fault, of that she was sure. Her frustration grew as she looked at the clock every minute causing time to pass agonisingly slowly.

It was nearly three in the morning when the doctor finally appeared. Olivia watched him approach. His face unreadable, she could not gain any clue if it was going to be good or bad. She stood on weary legs to hear news of Alex...
