VI

Alexa Malfoy

I stared at the back of James Potter. I was sitting a few desks from him. Beside me were Dominique Weasley and Denise Thomas. Recently, James had been acting really weird around me and by weird I mean completely different to the James I used to know. He would usually mock me and act like a jerk but recently he's been acting pretty nice.

"What's wrong with James?" I asked Dominique.

"What's wrong with you?" she looked at me like if I was some kind of alien. "You've been looking at him for almost the whole class."

"He's being acting strange lately," I told her completely ignoring her question. "I mean he's been very nice to me lately."

"I got to agree on that," she said. "He hasn't pulled a prank on you since your last detention and that was like three weeks ago."

"I know right?" I continued looking at James. "Should this be something good?"

"Definitely!" Denise answered as she entered the conversation. "You used to be so annoyed be James and now he's being nice to you so why question it?"

"Because-" I was interrupted by our Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher who was now standing behind us. Professor Haven was a strict teacher though she did have the bad habit of joining other conversations in the least fortunate time.

"Can I continue my class or do you two want to continue talking about James Potter?" Professor Haven said loudly.

Great, now the rumors weren't ever going to end. "I am sorry Professor Haven," I said trying to make my nicest voice possible. "Please continue."

I heard a couple of giggles from behind me then looked at James who was trying his best not to laugh. I glared at him then turned towards my book.

"So talking about me?" James smirked as he followed me out of class.

I rolled my eyes at him. "Dominique was just telling me about your favorite pink socks."

He laughed. "I doubt you were talking about that," he said. "That was first year's topic."

"Right I forgot you were Mr. Popular here," I punched him on the arm. We continued walking side by side. I was looking for Dominique but she was nowhere in sight.

"So what was it?" James asked after a minute or two of silence.

"What was what?" I asked him.

"Why were you, Dom and Denise talking about me?" He asked with a curious expression. I think he even tried to make puppy eyes but I wasn't sure. He continued bothering me the rest of the day he even followed me to the common room after our last period together.

"Stop being so freaky," I told him.

"Freaky?" He looked at me then behind me. He was concentrating on something behind me.

"Umm…James?" I looked at him wondering what was wrong with him. I waved my hand at his face but he continued staring at something behind me. I turned around to find him staring at an old Gryffindor painting. It was a portrait of a fierce golden Lion and behind it was the Gryffindor symbol.

"The painting," James finally said. "It's like the one in the trophy room."

He walked towards the painting and pointed behind it. I noticed that the wall behind it seemed to be moving though you had to focus real hard. "That is really weird," I said slowly. "Do you think it means something?"

"I am not sure but I got a feeling that they somehow connect," he responded.

I looked at his expression which looked a lot like when he was planning a prank. How do I know? I've been prank multiple times in the past and he just has this evilish smile when he is planning something. "What are you planning?"

"How do you know I am planning something?" he raised his eyebrow at me.

"So what is it?" I asked him once again avoiding his question.

"It's nothing," he smirked then left towards the boys' dormitory.

I kept my eyes on the last place he was before he entered the room. I tried to process everything that's happened lately. First, we started with a small fight which earned James and I a detention in which we discovered a painting which made the wall behind it move like a worm or something. After that, a rumor spread that we were dating though half of the school still believes do to the fact that we have been spending a lot of time together recently but that's because we've been talking about Quidditch, right?

"Where were you?" Dominique said as she appeared behind me. "I haven't seen you since Defence Against the Dark Arts."

"I was looking for you!" I replied. "Where were you?"

"I was…uhh…" she blushed a little before finding the correct words. "I was with Jacob."

"Jacob?" I asked her raising my eyebrow. "As in Jacob Finnigan?"

"Yeah," she said slowly. "He kind of asked me to Hogsmeade."

"What do you mean by kind of?" I looked at her and laughed. She was blushing and was trying hard not to laugh.

"He was asking me before Fred kind of lit his pants on fire," she said before laughing.

"Did you laugh in front of him?" I told her in between laughs. Poor Jacob, I mean he's a bit shy sometimes but he's a good person though he has a bad habit of making things explode.

"I simply said yes and ran here," she blushed. "It was kind of embarrassing."

"Let's go to the dormitory before they come this way," I told her before grabbing her by the arm and pulling her towards the dormitory.

And there it goes! I know its kind of short and a bit boring but at least it's something! Hope you liked it and please review! What are the paintings? Why are the walls around the painting changing? And what is James up to?!

"For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul."
