Chapter 67: Out Of The Tower

Shortly after leaving Halloween Town, Team Destiny spotted their next new world. Sora didn't hesitate in landing the Highwind, he and his entire team looked really excited to dive back into action.

After the Gummi ship landed, Sora, Kairi, Riku, West, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Max and Lea disembarked, eyes widening in awe at what they saw. They were standing in the middle of a beautiful, green forest clearing with a crystal clear waterfall and pond. The ground was coated in multiple colourful flowers. And the one thing that stood out the most in the clearing was a tall tower with a purple roof.

"Wow." Kairi breathed in awe. "And I thought Pocahontas's world was beautiful."

"Yeah! Just look at this place!" West said.

Mickey raised an eyebrow as he gazed at the tower. "What's this tower doing here, though?" He wondered out loud. "I don't see a door or entrance anywhere so you do you get in and out?"

"I have no idea." Said Riku curiously. "Maybe it's just here for show?"

"But if it's just for show, then why have it in the middle of nowhere?" Goofy asked.

"Nah!" Lea said. "I bet you can get in if you scale the tower and go in through the window!"

Donald laughed. "Yeah right! Do you see how high that is?!"

However, just at that moment a loud scream was heard. The group spun around to the source of the sound and found an exit to the clearing covered by a curtain of vines.

"Sounds like that's our cue!" Sora said with a hint of excitement in his voice as he summoned Kingdom Key. And just like that he rushed towards the sound of the scream with his friends following closely behind and ready to fight.

The team of world travellers burst out of the clearing to find the source of the scream. Before too long they had found it; two people, a man and a woman were completely surrounded by heartless. The scream came from the young woman that looked like nothing they'd ever seen. She was dressed in a long purple dress, was barefoot, had a small green cameleon on her shoulder and was trying to ward off the heartless with a frying pan. However, what really stook out the most about her was the armful of long golden hair she had in her arms. That couldn't all be hers, could it?

The man however looked a little more normal; shaggy dark brown hair and small chin beard dressed in a blue vest. He had nothing to defend himself with so he looked really worried about the heartless. The heartless that surrounded them included breeds such as green requiems, creeper plants, dark balls and a few stealth sneaks.

"Back! Back off you ruffians!" Exclaimed the girl with the armful of hair. "I won't let you take my hair!" The chameleon on her shoulder tried to look tough but he soon hid back in her hair.

The man beside her released a groan. "Okay, seriously blondie, why would anyone want your hair?!"

At that moment, a dark ball rushed to attack them only to be destroyed by a thunder spell from Sora. They both turned to the source of the magic blast and gasped at the sight of the nine world travellers rushing to their aid.

"Are you guys okay?" Sora asked.

The young woman gave a short nod. "Uh, yes. Who are you?"

"Can we do introductions later? Right now we've got bad guys to deal with!" Said Donald.

"Uh, right. I'll let you guys deal with whatever these things are." The man said as he rushed to a safer corner of the forest.

A group of about five dark ball rushed towards Sora, Donald and Goofy. The trio of friends managed to dodge out of the way without even a scratch, then used their combined efforts to take them down. The young woman with long hair was trying her best to keep up by hitting a few heartless with her frying pan, but thanks to her carrying all of her hair she couldn't move very quickly, leaving Kairi to heal her whenever she needed it. Lea sent his burning chackrams towards a group of the creeper plants, causing so much damage that all it would take to finish them would be one more hit. Unfortunately, the creeper plants were quickly healed by the green requiems.

Knowing they wouldn't get anywhere unless the annoying healing heartless were destroyed, West, Mickey and Max jumped into action. With the three of them working together, the green requiems were gone before they knew it. That left Lea to happily roast the ever-annoying creeper plants.

Riku soon found himself being ganged up on by three stealth sneaks. Thinking this was as good a time as any to use the gift he got from Santa, Riku reached into his pocket and pulled out the Snow Queen charm and held it over his head.

"Elsa!" He called out to the summon. The next thing Riku knew, the air around him turned very cold as it started to snow around him. He then felt a hand on his shoulder and saw a woman with platinum blonde hair tied in a braid wearing a light blue icy dress. She smiled at Riku as he gave a small bow, knowing he was in the presence of a queen. "Your majesty." He said politely.

The snow queen, Elsa released a small giggle as she stood back-to-back with Riku ready to fight.

"Let's bring the cold." She smirked as she and Riku dove straight into battle. Elsa used her magic to send powerful blasts of ice and snow at the heartless. Riku used his own blizzard magic, discovering it had grown stronger thanks to Elsa's presence.

Ready to deal the finishing blow, Elsa and Riku stood back-to-back again. Elsa held up her hands while Riku held up his keyblade. With their combined powers, the air around them turned icy and chilly. Sharp icicles burst through the ground and hit the heartless, causing a massive ammount of damage. With that, Elsa turned to Riku and smiled.

"The cold never bothered me anyway." She said as she disappeared in a cluster of sparkling snow flakes. (1)

And with that, all the heartless had been defeated, allowing the man and the young woman to relax.

"Thank you." She said. "You really saved us."

"Are you guys okay, though?" Kairi asked worriedly.

"We're fine." The man grumbled. "I could have taken them."

The young woman glared at him. "Flynn! Don't be rude! They helped us." She said as she turned to the team of world travellers and the cameleon moved back up to her shoulder. "It's nice to meet you guys. I'm Rapunzel and this little guy is Pascal."

"The name's Flynn Rider."

Sora smiled at them. "Nice to meet you guys. I'm Sora. This is Riku, Kairi, West, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Max and Lea." Each teammate waved as Sora said their names.

"So what are you guys doing out here?" West asked curiously.

"Flynn's taking me to see the lanterns!" Rapunzel exclaimed excitedly. "They appear in the sky every year on my birthday and it's been my dream to see them! Sorry if I seem a little jumpy; this is the first time I've ever been out of my tower."

Flynn glared at her. "Hey! Don't forget the only reason I'm doing this is so that you'll give me back my satchel!"

Lea raised an eyebrow curiously. "Wait, that tower back there? That's where you live?!" Rapunzel nodded and smiled.

"See? I knew it!" Exclaimed Donald. "All she'd have to do to get in and out is use her hair!"

Riku shook his head, then turned back to Flynn, Rapunzel and Pascal. "So, what's this about Rapunzel stealing your satchel?"

"I was getting chased so I stupidly climbed Blondie's tower." Flynn grumbled. "She knocked me out with that frying pan of hers and took my satchel and won't give it back until I take her to the kingdom."

"Well, you see today's my birthday and every year the kingdom sets off all these beautiful lanterns into the sky." Explained Rapunzel. "I've only ever seen them from my window and it's always been my dream to see them up close."

Mickey nodded in understanding. "And because you've never left your tower before, you need a guide to get to the kingdom." He summarized.

"Well, listen why don't we help you guys out." Offered Kairi. "There's bound to be more heartless out there and I'd hate for anything to mess up your birthday." The rest of the team vocalized their agreement with the princess of heart.

"Sounds great!" Flynn smiled. "Well, looks like you've got your new escorts, Blondie. So, if you'll just give me back my satchel I'll be on my way." He held out his hand towards Rapunzel, expecting to receive his satchel but Rapunzel shook her head.

"No! You need to lead all of us to the kingdom! I'm pretty sure these guys aren't from around here." Rapunzel said as Flynn pouted.

Goofy laughed. "Haha, looks like you're not getting out of this so easily, Flynn. Besides, you made a promise to the lady and you have to keep it!"

"So it's settled then!" Sora exclaimed excitedly. "We're going to the kingdom to see the lanterns!"

"Thanks so much, I'd hate it if we ran into more of those monsters and we couldn't defend ourselves." Rapunzel said as she went around hugging each one of the world travellers. "I'm worried enough about scary ruffians and thugs."

"So it's best if we avoid ruffians and thugs, huh?" Flynn mumbled to himself before turning back to the group with a smirk on his face. "Say, are you guys hungry? I know a great place to grab some grub!"

At that moment Lea's stomach grumbled loudly. "Yeah, I could go for some food." He said, causing his team to laugh.

"Oh wait!" West exclaimed as an idea suddenly popped into her head. "We should probably do something about Rapunzel's hair so it doesn't get tangled on the way."

"Good idea." Agreed Kairi excitedly. "Maybe a braid?"

"Whatever works." Smiled Rapunzel. And with that, West and Kairi went to work on braiding Rapunzel's long golden hair into a thick braid that reached all the way down to her ankles instead of nearly covering the entire forest floor. And once the two girls were done decorating Rapunzel's hair with multiple flowers from the forest, they were off.

It was safe to say West and Kairi got a little too into doing Rapunzel's hair, but at least the three of them were starting to become friends already.

~*KHIII*~

Sometime later, the group was walking down a dirt road, following Flynn's direction. They handn't run into too many heartless on the way and they were thankfully able to deal with them quickly. Rapunzel had picked up her own fighting style on the way by using her frying pan and her hair on occasion. The golden locks had proven useful in hitting multiple enemies at once.

"I know it's around here somewhere..." Flynn mumbled to himself as they walked until he finally spotted a building up ahead known as the Snugly Duckling. "Ah! There it is; the Snuggly Duckling."

Riku and Mickey both took a good hard look at the building; it looked pretty cute and brightly coloured with a little yellow duckling on the sign. It looked like it had been there for awhile since there was a large tree growing out of it.

"I'm... Genuinely surprised." Said Mickey. "This place looks normal."

"Yeah." Agreed Riku. "I thought he'd take us somewhere crawling with ruffians and thugs."

Flynn laughed as he put a hand on Riku's shoulder. "You know it really hurts that you guys don't have faith in me. Don't worry, it's a very quaint place, perfect fir Blondie. We wouldn't want her getting scared and giving up on this whole trip, would we?"

Donald glared at Flynn. "You're actin' really suspicious!"

"Oh, come on." Flynn said as he started walking towards the Snugly Duckling with Rapunzel. "Trust me. Let's go before all the tables fill up!" Once they reached the entrance, Flynn opened the door and Rapunzel gasped in absolute fear at what she saw. On the inside, the Snuggly Duckling was dark and rank filled with ruffians and thugs.

Rapunzel immediately started shivering in fear and held her frying pan out in front of her.

"Hey!" West glared at Flynn. "You tricked us!"

Flynn gave a fake gasp. "Hey! I am wounded! This is a five star joint after all." He smirked as he looked at the shaking Rapunzel. "You know, you don't look so good, Blondie. Maybe we should take you back to your tower."

Sora glared at Flynn darkly. But, before Flynn could leave, one of the thugs stood in his way holding a wanted poster.

"Is this you?" The thug growled. Flynn took the wanted poster from him, revealing a clear illustration of him only his nose was really off.

"Oh come on! Why can't they just get my nose right?!" Flynn groaned.

"Oh it's him alright!" A thug with a hook hand laughed. "Hey you! Go find some guards! That reward's going to buy me a new hook."

"Flynn!" Sora exclaimed. "You're a wanted thief?!"

"Now you know why I didn't want to waltz back into the kingdom when I just stole the lost princess's crown!" Flynn argued.

"Huh. So that's why you want your satchel back so badly." Max crossed his arms. The group was so busy glaring at Flynn that they didn't realize the thugs closing in on them until one of them grabbed Flynn, saying he wanted the reward money. The next thing they knew the thugs were mercilessly grabbing at Flynn and arguing with each other until it was complete chaos. It was so bad that Rapunzel, Pascal and the team of world travellers had to cower in one of the corners of the room.

"Oh, this isn't good." Said Goofy.

"What are we supposed to do now?" Asked Kairi. "Flynn was our guide to the kingdom."

"I say we just leave him." Said Lea. "We can find our own way to the kingdom."

Donald nodded in agreement. "Yeah! He lied to us about being a wanted thief!"

West couldn't help but glare at the duck. "You got a problem with thieves?!"

"No." Rapunzel said. "We need him to take us; if we try to find our own way we'll get lost and end up missing the lanterns."

"Okay, but how are we supposed to get Flynn back? They're not heartless we can't just beat up these guys." Pointed out Sora.

With her brow furrowed in determination, Rapunzel gripped her frying pan and stormed towards the thugs. After taking a deep breath, she jumped up and smacked one of the thugs directly in the head, capturing the attention of all the ruffians and thugs.

"PUT HIM DOWN!" Rapunzel shouted at the top of her lungs, causing all the thugs to turn to look directly at her with angry looks in their eyes. Rapunzel gulped, but still refused to back down. "Okay, I don't know where I am but I need him to take me to see the lanterns because I've been dreaming about them my entire life! Find your humanity! Haven't any of you ever had a dream?!"

Silence spread throughout the whole tavern until one of the thugs hung Flynn up on a nearby hook on a wall. Then, the thug with the hook hand slowly approached Rapunzel. He slowly got closer and closer until Rapunzel was cornered against the wall.

"I had a dream once..." Hook Hand said, causing everyone's jaws to drop all at once. Hook Hand's expression turned to one of annoyance. "What?! Just because I look mean and scary means I can't have a dream?!"

Sora held up his hands in defence. "What? No, of course you can have a dream! We were just surprised."

"So, what is your dream exactly?" Lea asked curiously.

"I've always wanted to be a concert pianist." Hook Hand said with a dreamy look in his eyes. "I always wanted to stand on a stage and preform Mozart."

Sora and the rest of the team looked a little surprised, but then a thug with a big nose stepped forward.

"I have a dream too!" He exclaimed. "I want to find true love!"

"Aww, that's so sweet!" Kairi gushed.

Big Nose blushed. "Oh thank you! I'm a lover not a fighter, you know." All at once the thugs started shouted their dreams.

"I want to quit being a thug and be a florist instead!"

"I make cupcakes!"

"I preform puppet shows!"

"I want to do interior design!"

"Vladimir collects ceramic unicorns!"

"I want to get back together with Lydia!" Lea suddenly shouted, causing everyone in the room to stare at him.

"You really want to get back together with Lydia?" Mickey asked.

Lea rubbed the back of his neck. "Well yeah, I mean really messed things up with her. I love her and I want another chance with her." In a desperate attempt to get the attention away from him, Lea turned to Flynn, who was still hanging on the wall. "So, uh what about you, Flynn?" He asked.

"I'm sorry, me?" Flynn asked.

"Yeah! What's your dream?" Big Nose questioned.

Flynn shook his head and crossed his arms. "Woah, no sorry guys. I'm not a sharer." At that moment, all the thugs pointed their swords at him. "Okay, okay fine! My dream's not as touchy-feely as you guys. I just want to live on my own island alone surrounded by huge piles of money!"

Hook Hand rolled his eyes at Flynn before turning to Rapunzel. "Okay, listen Blondie; you and your friends don't have a lotta time. We sent a guy to look for some guards; he should be back any minuite, we gotta get you guys out of here!"

"And how exactly do you plan on getting us out of here?" Riku asked.

"Yeah, if we walk out the front door, we'll run into the guards and they'll grab Flynn." Said Goofy.

"Follow me." Said Hook Hand. He lead the group behind the bar and pulled a nearby lever with a little duck on it. Hook Hand pulled it, revealing a trapdoor to an underground secret passage. "Now go! Live your dream!"

"I will." Flynn smiled.

Hook Hand glared at Flynn. "Your dream stinks. I was talking to Blondie and red."

"Hey! Thanks man!" Lea said.

"No problem, good luck with that Lydia girl."

West giggled behind her hand. "Yeah, he's going to need it."

"Thanks for everything." Rapunzel thanked Hook Hand with a kiss on the cheek as she slid into the secret passage followed by Pascal, Flynn, Sora, Kairi, Mickey, Riku, Donald, Goofy, Max, West and Lea. Finally, they were back on course to the kingdom to see the lanterns.
