Impotent
He woke just as the first light of dawn was painting the sky pink. He was stiff in muscles he'd never known he possessed. A heaviness hung over his mind like a fog of exhaustion. He pushed himself up, feeling the grit dig into his fingertips.
His world swam, it rocked and, for a moment, he was swept up in the beauty of the heavens. Reality moved swiftly, snaking its way into his limbs and his mind, into his senses. He heard the creaking, the groaning of the ship, the roar of the oceans.
That was right. They had a mission.
The ship would be hours away from the Manhattan harbor. And when it reached it, they had a job. Destroy the elementals, stop the rise of the demon king. Kill Karai.
His hand snaked to the Medallion against his plastron. Chi of the dragon, powerful, chosen.
No more avoidance of the inevitable. Impotent anger swept through him, the helpless resignation. Unable to take effective action. Powerless against the tide of fate.
It had all been leading up to this. He knew it. And never had resistance seemed this futile.
