Chapter 69: I See The Light

The Kingdom of Corona was truly a sight to behold. Much like the Dream Festival back at Disney Castle, the Lantern Festival had plenty of decorations and activities. The streets were covered in banners and flags with the golden sun symbol. Rapunzel was filled with excitement as she danced through the streets, took in the sights and dragged her new friends all over the kingdom.

Sora, Riku, Kairi, Donald, Goofy, Max, Mickey, West, Lea, Pascal and Flynn were clearly enjoying themselves too. Even Maximus started to loosen up after the group bought him some apples, even Flynn bought a few for him. It was a wonder they hadn't been seen by any royal guards the whole festival but that was thanks to Maximus driving them away.

They even had time to see the other sights and partake in the other activities the festival had to offer. They checked out the kingdom's library, allowing Rapunzel to read even more books than the three she previously had in her tower. Even Max had found a few he looked interested in. Flynn and West seemed to be becoming friends too thanks to their discussions about thievery. Then, after the library they did chalk drawings on the stone sidewalk which Rapunzel ended up being very skilled at, drawing a giant sun surrounded by colourful flowers.

Sora and Kairi had ended up drawing each other sharing paopu fruit similar to the drawing in the secret place back on destiny islands. They both blushed and turned away from each other, but Riku simply laughed and pushed them together. Kairi couldn't help but kiss Sora on the cheek, catching the brown-haired keyblade master off guard. The group was laughing so much at Sora and Kairi that they didn't realize Rapunzel was looking intently at a wall mural of the King, Queen and the lost princess. Rapunzel couldn't help but feel connected to the mural somehow; especially looking at the baby princess with long golden hair.

Soon after, the gang had wandered down the street to find some street musicians playing. At the sound of beautiful music, Rapunzel had spontaneously dancing in the street as more and more of the villagers and members of their group joined her. Maximus had gotten so into enjoying the festival that while the group was dancing in the street, he had pushed Flynn and Rapunzel together, West and Riku together and Sora and Kairi together. Even Mickey got into the dancing alongside Max and Goofy. The couples and the three Disney Castle residents had spent most of the remaining afternoon dancing together with the other villagers while the Donald and Lea watched from the side and stuffed their faces with all the food from the market stalls. The entire time they spent in the kingdom, Rapunzel hadn't been able to keep her smile off her face.

Before too long, night had come and it was almost time to send the lanterns into the sky. Flynn had lead them near the docks and rented two boats to send out on the water. Rapunzel, Flynn and Pascal set out on one boat while Sora, Riku, West and Kairi set out on the other. While Maximus, Mickey, Lea, Donald, Goofy and Max stayed behind on the docks.

"You sure you guys don't want to come?" Kairi called out to those who were sitting on the docks. "We can get another boat."

"Thanks, but I don't want to be a third wheel." Said Lea as he took a bite of an apple, causing Maximus to glare at him.

"Plus, Maximus can't fit in a boat and we don't want to be lonely." Mickey said as he pet Maximus's mane.

Donald snickered as he waved. "Have fun you lovebirds!" He called out, casing them all to blush.

Once the shock had worn off, Rapunzel turned to Flynn. "So where are we going?"

"Well, best day of your life? I thought you should have a decent seat." Flynn smiled at her. As the two boats differed further and further out into the water, the three couples were finding that their cheeks were heating up just being close with the people they cared about.

Sora soon found that their boat was slowly drifting away from Flynn and Rapunzel's and was about to pick up the oar but Kairi put a hand on his shoulder.

"Maybe we should give them some space." Kairi suggested as she pointed towards Flynn and Rapunzel. Flynn had given her a handful of flowers and Rapunzel had started placing the flowers on top of the water. They both had dreamy looks in their eyes.

"Aww! That is so cute!" West shouted. "Way to go Flynn-!" But then, she got cut off by Riku covering her mouth to try and muffle her shouting so Flynn and Rapunzel could have some quiet.

"Geez, West. Do you have to be so loud?" Sora asked with a laugh when Riku finally removed his hand from her mouth.

West laughed. "I can't help it! I'm excited!"

"A little too excited, maybe." Riku smiled.

"Guys! Look! It's starting!" Kairi suddenly interrupted as she pointed towards the sky. The others folowed her line of sight and gasped in awe at a what they saw. Rising from the kingdom and into the sky were thousands upon thousands of glowing, decorative lanterns flying above them. It was truly one of the most beautiful sights any of them have seen.

On the other boat, Rapunzel's eyes were wide with wonder and enchantment, clearly enjoying every single moment. Flynn had offered her two lanterns he had gotten while Rapunzel gave him back his satchel. They smiled lovingly at each other as they set their lanterns off to join the others, then they held each other's hands and looked lovingly into each other's eyes. Sitting nearby, Pascal turned red and covered his eyes.

West revealed four lanterns she had gotten alongside Flynn and handed one off to each of her friends. Then, just like Flynn and Rapunzel had, they launched their lanterns up with the others. As they watched the lanterns, Sora had put his arm around Kairi's shoulders as the princess of heart snuggled into his chest, causing Sora to blush. Riku shyly took West's hand in his while West's freckled face turned bright red.

Too soon, the lantern show seemed to be over, much to the disappointment to the double date.

"That was amazing." Kairi sighed happily. "It was so beautiful; I'm really glad we got to see it."

"It was." Agreed Sora. "I hope Rapunzel enjoyed it."

"Speaking of which, where are they going?" Riku asked as he pointed to the opposite end of the lake. There, they could clearly see Flynn rowing the boat up to the shore and stepping out of the boat with the satchel in hand.

West raised an eyebrow as they watched Flynn step away from the boat and walk upshore until they couldn't see him anymore.

"Where's he going?" She asked. "What's going on? Why'd he leave?!"

Kairi shook her head. "You guys don't think he's leaving Rapunzel for the crown in the satchel do you?"

"No way!" Argued Sora. "Rapunzel gave him the satchel because she trusts him! Flynn wouldn't just betray her trust like that!"

"Well, whatever the reason, let's get over there and make sure Rapunzel's okay." Said Riku as he picked up the oars and started rowing the boat towards Rapunzel. Once they reached her, the two couples jumped out of the boat and approached Rapunzel.

Rapunzel gave them a small smile. "Oh, hello. What did you guys think of the lanterns? I'm really glad I came." As they looked closer, Rapunzel's smile seemed forced; like there was something else on her mind.

"The lanterns were great." Kairi said. "But, what's wrong, Rapunzel?"

"W-what do you mean?" Rapunzel asked nervously.

"Rapunzel, you don't need to hide it from us." Sora spoke reassuringly. "You're worried about Flynn, right?"

Rapunzel sighed and nodded. "He's been gone for awhile now. I'm a little worried." She explained. "I'm starting to wonder if he just took the crown and left me."

"Hate to break it to ya, sweetheart but he did." A familiar voice spoke as the group of five turned around to find Pete and Mortimer walking towards them with smirks on their faces. It was Mortimer who had spoken.

"Pete?! Mortimer?!" Riku exclaimed. "What are you guys doing here?!"

"And what are you talking about?" West questioned as she and the rest of the group drew their weapons.

"Just what I said, pigtails." Mortimer said. "Flynn Rider left Blondie for the crown."

Rapunzel was stunned. "What?! He wouldn't!" She protested.

Pete shook his head. "Take a look for yourself." He said as he pointed towards the lake. There, they could see the darkened silhouette of Flynn steeering a ship away from them across the lake with the crown in his hand.

"Eugene?" Rapunzel questioned, horrified at what she saw. "Eugene?!"

"What?!" West gasped. "This doesn't make any sense! Why would Flynn just leave?!"

"I think it's a fair price to pay, ah cha cha." Mortimer smirked. "Ya know, a crown for the girl with the magic hair."

Sora glared at Maleficent's two minions. "Don't you two ever quit?!"

"Nope." Pete smirked. "We live to cause problems for you guys! So why don't we have some fun?!"

At that, Pete tossed a grenade at Sora, Riku, Kairi and West, who just barely managed to jump out of the way of the blast. The four of them immediately drew their weapons and charged at Maleficent's two lackeys. Mortimer shot at them with his pistol but the attack was blocked by Riku's keyblade. That gave West an opening to jump in and attack Mortimer with her knife. Kairi moved to attack Pete by knocking his grenades back at him with her keyblade.

Thinking this was as good a time as any to use the new power he got from Halloween Town, Sora placed a hand over his heart as he became surround by shadows. When the shadows faded, his clothes had turned black and dark purple. Coming out of his back were two black leathery bat wings and coming out of his head were two black horns. He held two keyblades in his hands and two floating behind his back. The two keyblades he held in his hand were Three Wishes and Pumpkin Head. Floating behind him were Oblivion and Oathkeeper. This was known as Chaos form.

Ready to take action, Sora rushed to attack Pete and Motimer with his new power. He slashed at them with his four keyblades at once and attacked with powerful graviga spells. He even managed to pull off a few deadly dark fire and dark blizzard spells without causing any permanent damage to his heart. It was proven very soon that Pete and Mortimer didn't stand the slightest chance against Sora and were quickly defeated.

"Are you guys done getting your butts kicked?" Sora questioned as Chaos form faded away.

"Fine, fine, we'll see you guys later. We were really just here to help Gothel out anyway. Let's go, Pete buddy." Mortimer waved as a corridor of darkness appeared behind him and Pete. Then, they stepped inside and vanished from the world.

West couldn't help but clench her fists in anger as they watched Pete and Mortimer leave. "Those guys make me so mad! They didn't need to tell Rapunzel that Flynn left her for the crown! That's just cruel!"

"Uh, guys. Speaking of which, where is Rapunzel?" Kairi questioned. Sora, Riku and West all spun around, finding that both Rapunzel and Pascal had dissapeared.

"Huh? Where'd they go?" Asked Sora. "They were just here."

"They couldn't have just dissapeared, could they?" Pondered Riku. "I mean, we were only talking to Pete and Mortimer for a few minutes."

Just then, the two couples turned around to find Maximus, Lea, Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Max rushing towards them.

"Hey guys!" Lea exclaimed. "What's going on over here?"

Donald looked around the area. "Yeah, where's Rapunzel and Pascal?"

"We don't know." Sighed Kairi. "Pete and Mortimer showed up and Rapunzel dissapeared while we were fighting them."

"I still can't believe Flynn did that, though." West frowned. "How could he just leave with the crown?!"

At that, Lea, Mickey, Donald, Max, Goofy and Maximus looked at them in confusion.

"Huh?! What are you talking about? Flynn didn't leave Rapunzel." Max said.

West raised an eyebrow. "Uh, hello earth to Max! We just saw Flynn take a ship and leave with the crown!"

Lea shook his head. "No, you just saw the shilouette. On the other end of the lake we saw that Flynn was knocked out and tied to the ship."

"Yeah. Then we saw Flynn get arrested by the guards." Goofy finished. "Then we came to get you guys."

"Flynn got arrested?!" Sora gasped. "Then, what happened to Rapunzel?"

"Actually, I think I might have seen her running back towards the forest with some lady in a red dress." Spoke up Lea.

"What?! Gothel took Rapunzel back?!" West gasped as she got into Lea's face. "Why didn't you say anything earlier?!"

Lea cringed. "Sorry, I didn't think it was a big deal until now."

"So that's what Pete and Mortimer meant." Sora realized. "They were just distracting us so Flynn would get arrested and Gothel could take Rapunzel."

"But why?" Kairi asked. "Why would Gothel want to take Rapunzel and arrest Flynn?"

"She already said she was with Maleficent." Riku crossed his arms. "And we know the secret about Rapunzel's hair. She must want to get rid of anyone who knows so she can keep Rapunzel's power all to herself."

"Uh, isn't that a little far-fetched?" Asked Mickey.

"She already proved she was vain and selfish when we met her." Kairi said. "I don't think it's far-fetched at all."

Sora turned to his teammates with determination on his face. "Okay, so we need to go save Flynn and save Rapunzel from Gothel. Let's do it!"

"Does this mean we're doing a jailbreak?" Donald asked as Sora nodded. "Great, now we've turned into criminals."

Maximus whinnied, ready to help as he started running towards the castle dungeons.

"Wow. Looks like someone's eager to help Flynn." Max said. "That's new for him."

"I guess he and Flynn really bonded and learned about each other." Noted West.

"At least we've got someone on our team who's familiar with the layout of the castle." Kairi said as she and the other world travellers followed Maximus.

~*KHIII*~

The sun had risen over the kingdom of Corona, but the sunlight couldn't cheer Flynn up. Not when he was stuck in a stone prison cell and didn't know if Rapunzel or his new friends were okay or not. He'd never cared so much about anyone before but now Rapunzel was all he could think about. He wasn't even sure how he ended up tied to that boat. After Rapunzel had given his satchel back to him, he wanted to make her proud by doing the right thing and returning it to the King and Queen. He was just going to drop it off at the castle gates but the moment he was out of Rapunzel's sight, he was knocked out.

"Flynn! Hey!" A familiar voice exclaimed, snapping him out of his thoughts. Flynn looked up and gasped at the sight of Sora, Kairi, Riku, West, Lea, Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Max standing outside his locked cell. It was Sora who had spoken.

"Whew! Sorry it took us so long, you wouldn't believe how many cells there are!" West smiled at him.

"Guys!" Flynn exclaimed as he ran towards the bars. "Look, I didn't want to leave Rapunzel-"

"-We figured it out." Interrupted Kairi. "We know you're not the type of guy to just abandon people you care about.

"Thats why we're breaking you out, you big palooka!" Said Donald. "We can't leave a friend locked up! Even if it means a criminal record..." he sighed.

Flynn was speachless as Sora summoned his keyblade and pointed it to the cell door. A beam of light shot out of it and immediately unlocked the door, freeing Flynn.

"Thanks, you guys." Flynn said as he stepped out of his cell. "But, how did you guys even get in here? Last I saw this place was crawling with guards."

"You can thank Maximus. He let us in and kept the guards off our trail." Mickey told him as Maximus joined the group and released a whinny, happy to see that Flynn was alright.

"Maximus?" Asked Flynn in astonishment. "You helped them save me?" Maximus nodded. "Thank you." He said while Maximus shrugged as though it wasn't a big deal. "No, really. Thank you. Thank you everyone."

"You can thank us later." Said Riku. "Right now we need to get back to the tower and help Rapunzel. She was taken back by her 'mother'."

Flynn clenched his fists. "I knew that mother of hers sounded like trouble. What are we waiting for? Let's go!"

~*KHIII*~

With Maximus and Flynn, the team didn't hesitate to rush back into the forest and run all the way back to Rapunzel's tower. However, the closest they got to the tower, the more heartless attacked them. Before too long, they reached the base of the tower.

"Since we know, Gothel's with Maleficent we can expect a big fight on our hands." Sora said to his teammates.

Flynn's eyes shone with determination. "I don't care how dangerous this Gothel lady is. Rapunzel needs help and that's all that matters."

"Right! Let's do this!" West pumped her fists in the air.

But just before the team was about to climb up the tower, they were instantly surrounded by neoshadow, darkball and creeper plant heartless. Maximus, Goofy, Max and Donald immediately jumped to attack the heartless.

"You guys go on ahead! We'll deal with the heartless!" Goofy told them as he threw his shield at a nearby darkball.

"Right!" Riku said as one after another, he, Sora, Flynn, Kairi, West, Mickey and Lea started climbing up the brick tower. They were getting closer and closer to a powerful dark aura, so they knew a hard fight was coming.

After awhile, they finally reached the top of the tower and helped each other climb through the window. On the inside, the tower actually looked quite big, well-equipped and homey with paintings Rapunzel did decorating nearly every surface. But once they entered, they heard a dark chuckle echo throughout the tower.

The team spun around, finding Gothel standing before them with a sharp dagger in her hand and a dark look in her eyes. Rapunzel was tied to a nearby pillar and looked really scared; she must have just learned the truth about Gothel.

"Eugene!" Rapunzel exclaimed happily. "Mother said she made sure you got arrested! I'm so glad you're okay!"

"Rapunzel, I thought I'd never see you again!" Flynn Smiled.

"Oh, that is so sickeningly sweet it makes me want to puke!" Gothel rolled her eyes.

"Why did you tie up Rapunzel?! Isn't she your daughter?!" Demanded Kairi.

Rapunzel shook her head. "No she's not; I figured it out awhile ago but I'm actually the kingdom's lost princess. She stole me from the castle just so my hair could keep her young forever! I tried to leave to help you guys but she stopped me and tied me up."

"Okay now I know you're evil! Stealing the king and queen's daughter?! That's too cruel!" West exclaimed.

Gothel glared darlky at the team of heroes. "Well, what was I to do? The palace guards took the magic flower I'd previously been using to heal their precious queen."

Mickey sweatdropped. "Uh, I don't know, age gracefully?"

"Well, you won't be keeping Rapunzel locked up anymore." Sora said as he and the rest of the group summoned their weapons.

"Oh, yes I will." Gothel smirked as she readied her sharp dagger. "And I'll make sure our secret dies with you all. After Maleficent's completed her revenge on you of course."

Flynn didn't hesitate in rushing Rapunzel's side and untying her. Up on Rapunzel's shoulder, Pascal pounded his fists together as she took out her frying pan and pointed it at Gothel.

"Oh, really now Rapunzel?" Gothel turned to the girl with the magic hair. "You're really going to attack your own mother."

"You are not my mother!" Retorted Rapunzel. "I won't let you hurt my friends or let you use me or my hair again!"

And with that, The battle with Gothel began. Rapunzel started by taking her frying pan and attacking Gothel directly, throwing her a little off balance. That gave Sora an opening to strike Gothel with his Keyblade. Kairi and Lea jumped in next by attacking with both powerful blizzard and fire magic. Mickey jumped up to attack next but Gothel dodged and cut him. West knocked him out of the way so she and Gothel could duel with their knives. West then cut Gothel and managed to steal a small black and purple glowing crystal with spikes from her. But that brief moment was all Gothel need to cut West and send her tumbling into Riku and Sora.

But, as soon as Gothel recovered, she moved to attack Flynn with her dagger, managing to slash him across his stomach, causing an intense ammount of damage. Flynn moved down to his knees, clutching his stomach in pain. Knowing she had to help, Rapunzel took a deep breath and stored away her frying pan away.

"I'll live my dream!" Rapunzel exclaimed as she undid her hair, letting the flowers float all over the room. Then, she took her unbraided hair in her hands and attacked Gothel with it, wielding the long strands like a whip. She even used her hair to block a few attacks and trip Gothel, giving her even more openings to attack. "Flower Gleam and Glow! Let your power shine!" Rapunzel sang as her hair started to glow and the clourful flowers started flying all around the room, returning every one of her teammates to full health instantly. Then, her hair stopped glowing as she quickly rebraided it and jumped back into battle. (1)

Rapunzel's attack had done a great deal of damage so, with one final strike from Kairi's Keyblade, Gothel collapsed, defeated.

With the battle over, Rapunzel turned to her friends with a smile on her face. "Thank you so much for all your help. I don't know what I would have done if I couldn't see you guys again."

Flynn smiled as he took her hand in his. "Neither would I. You're my new dream." Rapunzel couldn't help but blush.

Leaving Gothel alone in the tower, Sora, Kairi, Riku, West, Mickey, Lea, Flynn, Pascal and Rapunzel climbed down to find that after defeating Gothel, all the heartless had dissapeared.

Seeing that their friends were okay, Goofy, Max, Donald and Maximus surrounded them the moment they touched the ground. Smiles spread across their faces.

"We were really worried about you, Rapunzel." Max said.

"I'm just so happy you guys came for me." Said Rapunzel. "You're all really good friends."

At that moment, Rapunzel's tower began to glow. Knowing what it meant, Kairi pointed her Keyblade at the tower, causing a crown emblem to appear underneath her feet. Then, a glowing keyhole shot out of the tower and into the sky. Kairi pointed Destiny's Embrace at the keyhole as a beam of light shot out, unlocking the gate.

"Wow." Rapunzel gasped in awe. "What was that?"

"The gate opened!" Donald exclaimed.

"It means it's time for us to go." Riku said with a hint of dissapointment in his voice.

Flynn smiled as he pulled his new friends into a group hug. "We're going to miss you. But it's awesome we got to meet you guys."

"I'm really happy we got to meet you guys too." West smiled.

"So, what's your plan now?" Sora asked Flynn and Rapunzel.

"I'm going to go reunite with my real parents." Rapunzel replied. "I just hope they'll accept me."

"Don't worry, they will." Reassured Flynn. "I just hope they'll be lineant with me when I come forward and confess to stealing the crown."

Maximus nuzzled Flynn and released a whinny as Mickey laughed. "You don't have to worry Flynn, looks like Maximus is planning to put in a good word for you." Maximus nodded happily, confirming Mickey's words.

Then, Maximus reached into one of the pockets of his saddle with his teeth and pulled out a summon charm. It was white with Corona's gold sun symbol on it. He then trotted over to Kairi and dropped the charm into her hand. It was known as the Royal Steed charm and would give her the power to summon Maximus in battle.

"Thank you Maximus." Kairi smiled as she hugged him. "This is really going to help us!"

"We should get going; we still have a lot left to do." Sora said.

"Thanks again for everything you guys! Come visit us again anytime!" Rapunzel smiled as she, Flynn, Maximus and Pascal waved Sora and his team off as they made their way back to their Gummi Ship.

~*KHIII*~

Sometime later, the team was back on the Highwind, getting ready to take of to the next world. Sora was just buckling up at the pilot's seat when he noticed a red light blinking on the dashboard. Not knowing what it was, Sora turned to Mickey, who was

"Hey, your majesty. What's with this blinking button?" Sora asked, capturing the attention of everyone on the ship.

"That's the video message button." Mickey replied. "Someone must be trying to get in touch with us."

"Well what are we waiting for? Let's awnser!" Max exclaimed.

With that said, Sora pushed the button, causing a holographic screen with Cid's face to appear in front of them.

"Hey there fellas!" Cid waved. "How's it going out there?"

"Hiya Cid!" Waved Goofy. "We're doin' great!"

Donald nodded. "Yeah! We just beat up one of Maleicent's lackey's on the last world we visited!"

Cid grinned. "That's great! Then you guys can come back to Radiant Garden!"

"Radiant Garden?" Lea asked. "Why?"

"Well, you guys remember that portal we've all been working on to help your friend Aqua? Well, we're pretty much done." Cid explained.

"Really?" Kairi asked as smiles spread throughout the entire Gummi Ship. "That's great! You guys have been working in it for so long!"

"Yeah, Lewis, Phineas, Ferb, Gretchen, Wade, Ienzo and Even have been working really hard." Said Cid. "All we need is some samples of pure darkness. Like some type of synthesis material."

"Will this work?" West asked as she pulled out the spiky back and purple glowing Crystal she stole from Gothel.

Cid's eyes widened in shock. "T-that...that's a Yami crystal! One of the rarest synthesis materials out there! It's made of pure darkness! How did you get that?!"

West giggled as she rubbed the back of her neck. "Uh, I stole it off Gothel."

"Well that's great! With one Yami crystal, we'll get the portal open no problem! If we have another we can keep it open!" Cid exclaimed.

"Then we'll have to hope that Roxas's team can find one." Said Riku. "We'll let the other group know then we'll head over to Radiant Garden, Cid."

"Okay, I'll see you guys soon." Cid waved as the connection was cut off.

Sora turned to his team. "Well, it looks like we're well on our way to the Realm of Darkness! And to Aqua!"

"Alright!" West exclaimed. "Then let's give the others on the Falcon a call!"

While West, Sora, Donald and Goofy started calling the other team on the Falcon, Mickey looked out the window to the starry sky. He knew Aqua was trapped far out there in the darkest corner if the universe and they were so close to helping her.

"Just hang on a little longer, Aqua. We're coming." Mickey said as he put a hand on his heart.

And now we're finished with Conona! Now, on a more serious note I've been getting spammed with a lot of anonymous reviews constantly pestering me about things that aren't even relevant to the story, telling me to update and pushing their ideas that I really can't put in and I'm getting really annoyed with it. If your review is one that's not relevant to this fic or you keep bothering me about stuff that's been said multiple times I will be deleting it. I'm sorry if this makes any of you unhappy with me but this really has to stop.
