Chapter 70: Going Down The Bayou

After leaving Nomanissan, it wasn't long before the Falcon descended upon another world. After docking the ship, Roxas, Naminé, Xion, Myde, Oswald, Dragon, Kyra, Rusty and Lydia landed on the world, but most of them cringed in disgust at where they ended up.

"Seriously?!" Myde groaned in disgust as he looked down at his shoes which were now covered in mud. "A swamp?! Why'd we get the crappy world?!"

It was true; the world before them was much different than Islands of Paradise or Nomanissan. The sky above them was dark, the water was dark, murky and coated in a thin layer of algae, lily pads and water lillies. The trees around them were coated in moss and were growing nearly everywhere they looked. They could see nothing but green for miles around.

Oswald rolled his eyes. "It's not that bad; Wasteland had worse places than this when the Blot was in control; trust me, his ink never comes out of your clothes."

Lydia was lifting up her long skirt and holding her nose. "Still though; couldn't we have picked a world with a better smell?"

"Yeah! This swamp's gross! I wanna trade with Sora's team!" Myde exclaimed.

Kyra face palmed as she shook her head. "It's not a swamp, it's a bayou."

Roxas looked at her curiously. "How do you know?"

"Me and Rusty have been here before. About a year ago while I was looking for my brothers I checked this place out." Explained Kyra. Rusty nodded his head, confirming her words. "Welcome to New Orleans."

"New Orleans?" Myde asked. "What was the old one like?"

Kyra glared at him, causing Myde to shut his mouth. "Would you guys just relax? This world isn't all bayou." Groaned Kyra. "There's a city not too far from here. I have a friend who works at a café there. She makes really good gumbo and beignets." Rusty licked his lips, remembering the last time he ate beignets.

Oswald spoke up. "Really? Maybe we should stop by the city to make sure everything's okay."

"Right." Agreed Roxas. "The heartless are more likely to gather where there are lots of hearts."

"Sounds like a good place to start." Said Xion. "Lead the way Kyra."

New Orleans

However, before the team could even take one step towards civilization, the sound of screams reached their ears.

"Oh no!" Naminé gasped. "It sounds like someone's in trouble!"

"Could be heartless!" Said Roxas. "We better see what's going on."

Dragon nodded as he drew Steel Slayer. "Okay! Let's go!" With that, the team of nine world travellers rushed towards the sound of the screaming. Even Myde and Lydia put aside their disgust of the bayou as they ran with their teammates.

Before long, they located the source and just as Roxas thought; the heartless were to blame. Two small scared-looking frogs were surrounded by Hook Bats, Neoshadows and black and green aligator-like heartless known at Gator Chompers.

Roxas jumped in first with Two Become One in his hand and slayed a Neoshadow before it could attack the two frogs. Myde followed closely behind him and used his Sitar to attack a Neoshadow that was about to attack Roxas. Kyra and Rusty moved together and attacked the Gator Chompers. However, when the Gator Chompers attacked, they caused a lot of damage from their bites and scratches so Naminé stayed close to Kyra and Rusty so she could heal them.

Xion and Dragon were fighting against the Hook Bats. They were easy to dispose of, but there were a lot of them and they moved too fast, causing Xion and Dragon to feel overwhelmed. Lydia jumped in to help them and hit her tambourine, causing the Hook Bats to freeze in place with a Stopaga spell. Lydia, Xion and Dragon then moved to attack the heartless without interruption.

Oswald unfortunately was being chased by a few Gator Chompers. He used his keyblade to cause some damage, but soon realized it wasn't going to be enough. So, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the Healthcare Companion Charm he found on Nomanissan.

"Baymax!" Oswald explained as he held the charm above his head. The next thing he knew, a big white ballon, marshmallow-like robot appeared before him.

The robot blinked a few times then waved at Oswald. "Hello. I am Baymax. Your personal healthcare companion."

"Right! Let's go Baymax!" Oswald said as he gripped Wasted Past and jumped into battle with Baymax following him. Oswald used all his strength to attack the Gator Chompers. Every time the heartless caused damage to the rabbit, Baymax instantly healed him with powerful cure spells.

After healing Oswald a few times, Baymax became surrounded by a bright light. When the light faded, Baymax was dressed in heavy red and dark blue armor with wings. Oswald jumped on to Baymax's back as the robot blasted into the air and flew all around the heartless. Then, they stopped flying as Baymax pointed his fist at the heartless and Oswald pointed his keyblade. They both charged up their power, then they unleaded their attacks. Oswald blasted a beam of electricity and Baymax blasted his armored fist, eliminating the enemies before them.

The flash of light surrounded Baymax again as he reverted back to his white plush form.

"Thanks, pal!" Oswald said as he and Baymax fist-bumped.

"Bah-a-la-la-la" Baymax replied as he dissapeared. (1)

And with that, the heartless were defeated, leaving the bayou quiet and peaceful again. As the team dismissed and stored away their weapons.

"What are the heartless doing all the way out here?" Xion wondered out loud.

"That's what we'd like to know." An unfamiliar voice spoke. The team looked all around them but couldn't find the source of the voice. "Uh, down here."

The group then looked down to the ground where the two frogs sat.

"Uh, did that frog just talk?" Kyra asked curiously, pointing to the smaller, feminine-looking frog.

That same frog spoke up again. "Kyra! It's me! Tiana!"

"Tiana?!" Kyra gasped in shock as she knelt down to the frog's eye-level. Rusty tilted his head in confusion.

"Wait, you know this frog?" Oswald questioned curiously.

Kyra nodded. "This is the friend I was telling you guys about; this is Tiana." She explained.

"Wait, so your waitress friend is a frog?" Myde asked.

Kyra glared at him. "She's supposed to be human." Kyra then turned to Tiana with a look of concern. "What happened to you?! Why are you all green and slimy?!"

"Oh, no no! It is not slime! We are secreting mucus." The bigger, masculine-looking frog said, capturing the attention of the group. "Allow me to introduce myself; I am Prince Naveen of Maldonia."

"Prince?!" Lydia questioned. "Okay, now I'm really confused."

"Same here." Said Dragon. "If you guys are human then why are you guys frogs now?!"

Tiana rolled her eyes as she moved to explain. "Prince Carming here got himself turned into a frog by a voodoo man. He thought I was a princess and made me kiss him to try and turn him back. But got me turned into a frog too."

"Guess it's bad luck that Kairi's not here." Sighed Naminé. "She's a princess of heart. I bet she could have broken the spell."

"Ashidanza!" Exclaimed Naveen. "You know a princess and she is not with you?! Now that is truly bad luck for me."

"Sorry. Our group had to split up since there was too many of us. If Kairi was here I'm sure she'd have no problem helping you guys out." Roxas sighed.

Tiana patted Roxas's leg. "Thank you for your concern, sweetie, but we think we found someone who can help us out. We were just on our way to see Mama Odie. We think she might know how to change us back."

"Wait, Mama Odie?" Kyra asked as Tiana nodded. "I'm pretty sure you're going the wrong way."

"That there's right, Cher." A Cajun voice said as a firefly with red hair and missing teeth appeared in front of the group. "Now what kind of idiot would tell ya'll to go this-a-way?"

Just at that moment, a giant alligator emerged out of the bushes, shaking nervously. "A-are those monsters gone yet?" The alligator asked. At the sight of him, the team of world travellers immediately grew nervous.

"Aghh!" Myde screamed fearfully, summoning his sitar. "Giant ferocious evil alligator!" The alligator gulped in fear.

"Woah, woah relax!" Naveen exclaimed. "Louis is our friend! He plays jazz on the horn and everything." The team seemed to calm down as Myde nervously put away his Sitar.

Xion slowly approached Louis. "He doesn't look evil or ferocious to me. I think he looks pretty harmless."

"Yeah, that's right." Louis said as he stepped out if the bushes, getting a little more comfortable with the crowd. "All I wanna do is play jazz with the big boys."

Tiana glared at Louis. "So, Louis. Kyra says you've been leading us in the wrong direction. Is this true?"

"Uh, well you see... I was confused by the topography... And the geography... And the, uh, choreography..." Louis gulped nervously.

The firefly shook his head. "First rule of the bayou; never take directions from a gator." He said. "Allow me to introduce myself. My name Raymond but you can call me Ray."

"Uh, it's nice to meet you Ray." Said Roxas as Tiana jumped on his shoulder.

"So, Ray do you know the way to Mama Odie?" Tiana asked. "We'd really appreciate the directions."

Kyra nodded. "We really would. I don't remember how to get there. I met her the last time I was here to try and get some information on my brothers, but it has been awhile."

"Oh no problem!" Ray smiled as he flew in front of the team. "I'm happy to help ya'll! Just follow the bouncing butt!" Thanks to Ray's guidance, Tiana and Naveen were well on their way to turning back into humans with new friends to help them on their journey and protect them from the heartless.

Congrats to those of you who guessed Princess and the Frog! See you guys next time and thanks again for all your support! And don't worry, Another Side Another Story will be updated next!
