Two Weeks Later
Two weeks of dating Klaus, of using him to get closer to the Hybrid. Two weeks of becoming emotionally attached to the most dangerous Mikaelson. Two weeks of her fighting, and not succeeding, her attraction for him.
Caroline leaned against her hotel door after she entered her room, and closed her eyes. She hated this.
She hated that her boss was proud of her progress. She hated that he was using her growing feelings for Klaus to get the job done. Granted, he didn't know about her feelings, but still.
She pushed away from the door, and dropped her phone and keys on the table before dropping herself on the bed. She remembered her conversation with her boss when she went out to a secluded and secure area to make the call. She had tried to keep a cool head, and tried to keep her feelings out of it. Truth be told, she didn't know about her feelings.
She closed her eyes with a sigh. With each day, she became more and more enthralled with the blue eyed, dimpled cheeked Klaus. She didn't like that, and yet somehow…she did.
It was strange. The first and only man, who she ever allowed close to her, and he was a criminal, she hated this. This wasn't right.
Her eyes opened abruptly as she heard a knock on her door. Thinking it was Klaus; she sat up, and walked lazily to the door. Opening it up, she lifted her gaze, and her face and body froze, before she broke into a wide smile.
"Kat!"
Katherine smiled, and tilted her curly dark head to the side. "Miss me?"
Caroline shook her head, and stepped back, allowing her friend to enter the room, only to hug her quickly.
Katherine laughed at the affection, and pulled back as the door closed. "Now, explain to me what the hell are you doing here?" She demanded, narrowing her almond dark eyes.
Caroline sighed and motioned around the room.
Katherine nodded, and pulled out a device from her pants. "Now, we're clear." She replied, quickly.
Caroline shook her head. "They are so going to be pissed."
Katherine shrugged. "Let them be." She stated, grasping Caroline's head. "You and I need to talk."
Caroline closed her eyes. Oh, crap.

Klaus sipped the bourbon from his shot glass, and frowned as he brought it down. The door to the study opened, and he turned from the window to see his brother enter with his usual frown on his face.
"Welcome home, brother." He replied, with a small smile on his lips.
Elijah smiled faintly. "Your contact's contact is Katherine Pierce, Niklaus." He replied, skipping the formalities.
Klaus' smile faded slightly, and his eyes narrowed. "How the hell does she know Pierce?!" He shouted, planting the glass on his desk.
Elijah shrugged. "Katerina wouldn't tell me." He stated, firmly.
Klaus grunted, and turned away to the look out the window. "Caroline is in way over her head with Pierce." He whispered, with slight worry.
Elijah tilted his head to the side. "You care for this woman, don't you?" He asked, stepping closer to his brother.
Klaus closed his eyes for a moment before turning to face his brother. He didn't say a word. He didn't have to. The set in his jaw said it all.
Elijah nodded, and stepped beside Klaus, looking out the window. "Does she know the truth?" He asked, glancing at his brother before looking out the window.
Klaus shook his head. "No." He stated, roughly.
"Will you tell her?" Elijah asked, after a moment.
Klaus closed his eyes, and sighed. "I don't trust her yet, not completely." He whispered, walking away.
Elijah stared out the window, and called out before Klaus left the room. "Katerina is here in New Orleans." He stated, turning around to see Klaus pause at the door.
Klaus narrowed his eyes, and finally closed them. "Caroline." He whispered, heading out the room.

Katherine nodded, and pushed her curly brown hair behind her ears. "You are an idiot, Caroline." She stated, leaning against the headboard of the bed, glaring at her friend. "Why did you take this assignment?" She asked, shrugging.
Caroline sighed, and folded her legs Indian style on the bed. "Alaric gave me this job to bring down the Hybrid." She stated, feeling safe to talk about it to someone. "I couldn't exactly refuse when it was my chance." She remarked, keeping her eyes down.
Katherine shook her head. "Screw your chance, Caroline. This is your life we are talking about." She nearly shouted, anger flashing in her eyes. "If the Mikaelson's find out, especially Klaus," She paused, leaning forward. "They'll kill you." She concluded, gravely.
Caroline sighed. "I'm being careful, Kat." She whispered, lowering her eyes.
"This isn't about you being careful, Caroline." Katherine scolded. "You don't know what this family is like." She stated, firmly.
Caroline lifted her head, and gazed at her friend. "How do you know the family?" She asked, curiously.
Katherine sighed, and dipped her head. "Five years ago, I was just starting off on my own." She began, shaking her head with a scoff. "I had heard about the mysterious family who ruled the gun running business down in the south, but I didn't pay much heed to them." She remarked, pausing lifting her head. "Most of my business deals are overseas, but I had a few customers who needed to ship to the US." She paused once more, bowing her head. "I ran into Elijah Mikaelson, and over the course of a few weeks, we became 'friends'." She remarked with a sly smile.
Caroline smiled at her wording, and nodded in understanding. "Then what happened?" She asked, after a moment.
Katherine's smile faded. "I found out Elijah was using me. He was sent by Niklaus to find out about the rival for the business." She stated, with a cold tone. "Elijah warned me to stay away, and it was then I realized how dangerous the family actually was, so I left, and left the business here behind, only to pick it up across the sea." She added, nodding curtly.
Caroline nodded. "What did the family do?" She asked, softly.
Katherine sighed. "They killed a few of my men to prove a point." She stated, with a shrug.
Caroline's eyes widened. "Is that why you came to New Orleans?" She asked, titling her head to the side.
Katherine laughed and shook her head. "No, I came here to make sure that you don't do something any more stupid than what you've already done." She replied, pointing her right pointer finger at Caroline.
Caroline smiled. "I'll be fine, Kat." She returned, moving her legs out before they went to sleep.
"That's what worries me." Katherine remarked, nodding her head. "I know that you are supposed to use Klaus to find the Hybrid, but, Caroline, have you thought of the possibility that you might be discovered. I mean, do they even know your real name?" She asked, leaning forward.
Caroline shook her head. "No, they think my name is Dobbs." She answered, bowing her head. "And yes, I have thought about the possibility, but this is my job, Kat, and part of my job is dangerous." She added, firmly.
"Care, this family is as dangerous as it gets." She began, watching her friend shake her head.
"I'll be fine, Kat." Caroline stated, strongly.
Katherine shook her head. "It's that damn Forbes pride in you." She stated, rolling her eyes.
Caroline smiled, and fingered the necklace around her neck. "The only thing I inherited that I truly appreciate." She whispered, lowering her eyes.
Katherine smiled. "I wouldn't appreciate it." She stated. "Pride could bring a downfall; trust me I'm an expert on pride." She stated, holding her head up higher.
Caroline laughed, and nodded. "I believe it." She remarked, watching Katherine narrow her eyes playfully.
"Well, since I'm here, what's say we go and paint the town red tonight?" Katherine replied, standing up from the bed.
Caroline smiled. She needed a rest from her job, and tonight, she was going to get it. "Love to." She stated, standing up with her friend.
Katherine smiled, and grasped Caroline's arm with hers. "Well, then let's go, Pierce and Forbes together again." She stated, marching to the door.
Caroline rolled her eyes. "Dobbs." She remarked, lowly.
Katherine shrugged. "You'll always be a Forbes to me." She stated, with pride.
Caroline smiled, and bowed her head as they marched out the door, after grabbing their purses, and headed out into the streets of New Orleans.
~XXX~
For two weeks, he had been watching Klaus, trying to find any weakness or any sign that Klaus would slip up, and he finally found it.
He smiled as he stood in the doorway of the street bar, and lifted the shot glass to his lips. He watched as the blonde come out of the hotel on the arm of a tanned brunette, and dance down the streets.
Word was that she was an arms dealer, and she was spending a lot of time with Klaus Mikaelson. It was perfect.
It was exactly what he needed to use against Klaus. Now, if only he could expose the weakness, and get what he deserved. New Orleans needed a new ruler, and Marcel was just the man to be that ruler.
~XXX~
Klaus walked through the crowded streets, and smiled at the passing people. He paused in the middle of the sidewalk as he caught sight of a familiar blonde head, next to a brunette he hoped never to see again.
He leaned against one of the lamp posts on the sidewalk, and watched them from a distance. He couldn't help but smile as he watched Caroline's face light up next to Katherine.
Five years ago, he never imagined seeing the brunette making anyone happy. Of course, back then she was a nuisance, but he had let her live, and the reason: Elijah had asked him to.
There were many things Klaus was, and one was keeping his word. He had promised Elijah to let the brunette go, under the condition that she never return, but why was she here now?
He watched as Caroline laugh with Katherine at her side. He smiled as her laugh drifted to his ears. He didn't get to hear Caroline laugh much, even though he saw her smile at him enough times. Questions filled his mind. How did Caroline know Katherine? What was her connection to her? From the look of them, he could see that they were close friends.
He let out a sigh, and bowed his head. Perhaps, Katherine could prove useful to him after all. She could help him to get even closer to Caroline.
He smiled, secretly. Yes, he could use her. He could, but what would that do?
He wanted Caroline to open up to him, and with now dating her, he was closer to finding out the truth.
Truth was could he wait long?

Caroline tilted her head back as she downed the drink in her hands. She let out a shiver as the liquid ran through her system. "Oh, man." She whispered, watching Katherine down a similar drink.
Katherine dropped the glass on the table, and smiled at Caroline's face. "You should drink more often." She remarked, pointing a finger at her friend.
Caroline smiled wanly. "He used to drink." She whispered, absently.
Katherine nodded in understanding. "Well, I promise I won't let you get as bad as that." She replied, encouragingly.
Caroline smiled and nodded. "So, how long are you staying in New Orleans?" She asked, as another drink was set in front of her.
Katherine downed her next drink. "As long as you are here, I'm staying." She stated, after she swallowed.
Caroline glared at her. "I told you, I'll be fine." She stated, lowly.
Katherine shook her head. "I don't believe you." She remarked, saucily.
Caroline opened her mouth to speak, but was quickly interrupted when a tall dark man appeared beside their table.
"Well, what are two such attractive women such as you doing here all by yourself?" Marcel asked, placing his hands on the table.
Caroline tensed her body at the way Marcel's eyes glanced over her. Katherine's eyes became murderous before turning flirtatious.
"We are having some girl time, and I don't believe we invited you over here." Katherine remarked, firmly.
Marcel smirked at her remark, and glanced over Katherine's body. "Well, now, see this here is my bar, so two women who sit by themselves in my bar, need a little company. Wouldn't you say?" He said, glancing back at Caroline.
Caroline moved her eyes uncomfortably to her hands on the table, but didn't say a word. Katherine noticed her friend's uneasiness, so she began to speak for them.
"I say, when two women are sitting alone, it's because they want to be." Katherine answered, coldly.
Marcel smiled, and nodded. He glanced at Caroline, and leaned towards her. "You don't want to be alone, do you?" He whispered, moving his eyes over her body.
Caroline glared at him, and moved to stand up. "Actually, I do." She stated, getting up from the table, and moved away from him.
Marcel frowned, and reached for her. He vaguely heard Katherine say something, but he over looked it.
Caroline stiffened, and thrust her left elbow up, and connected it with Marcel's face. Marcel grunted, and threw his head back. He growled, as he let go of her arm, and grasped his nose.
"Bitch." He stated, harshly.
Caroline's eyes flashed, and Katherine stood up from the table. "She doesn't like to be touched. You're lucky." Katherine remarked, holding her head up. "You're lucky that she's the one who hit you, because," Katherine whispered as she leaned in with a dangerous glint in her eyes. "If you touch her again, I will do far worse than a punch in the face." She added, darkly.
"Come on, Kat." Caroline replied, grasping her friend's arm. "Let's get out of here." She added, glancing darkly at Marcel.
Marcel frowned, and watched them leave with Katherine glaring at him. His eyes darkened, and a sneer appeared on his lips. "I'll see you both again, Caroline and Katherine." He whispered, as they disappeared out the door.
Across the street, Klaus watched with a satisfactory smile on his face. Yeah, Katherine could watch over his Caroline.
The smile faded slightly. His Caroline. He liked the sound of that. Yeah, he did.
~XXX~
"I don't understand why you wouldn't let me kick his ass out on the curb." Katherine remarked as they walked down the street.
Caroline rolled her eyes. "Because Marcel is dangerous, Kat." She stated, looking at her friend.
Katherine shook her head. "Do you know him?" She asked, glancing at Caroline.
"No, but I've heard Klaus mention him a few times over the phone, and it wasn't good." She remarked, not mentioning that the Marshal's also had a file on Marcel.
Katherine scoffed. "Well," She remarked, pausing in the street with a smile. "It's good to see my training hasn't been in vain. I loved the jab with the elbow." She stated with a chuckle.
Caroline laughed, and nodded. "Yeah, thanks." She returned, as she thread her arm through her friend's and they continued on their way. "I had a great teacher." She whispered, with a laugh.
Katherine lifted her head higher. "Yeah, you did, didn't you?" She said, with a hint of pride in her voice.
Caroline laughed and shook her head. "What did you say earlier about pride?" She remarked, condescendingly.
Katherine shrugged. "I'm allowed to have it."
Caroline shook her head. "Let's go get something to eat, and I know this great place." She whispered, as they turned down a street.
Katherine nodded, and followed her friend. "Are their hot guys there?"
Caroline shrugged. "Do you think I look?" She asked, smiling.
Katherine sighed. "Oh, you've spent too much time with Klaus." She remarked, flatly.
Caroline laughed. "I'm supposed to." She whispered, softly.
Katherine shook her head. "Yeah, but not enjoy it."
"Who says I enjoy it?" She asked, as they rounded the corner.
They stopped as Caroline collided with a body, and the shiver that ran through her told her all she needed to know. She lifted her gaze, and felt a smile grace her face as she peered in the familiar blue eyes.
"Caroline, fancy meeting you here." Klaus remarked, though he knew he would run into her after he followed her a few blocks.
She nodded, and stepped back. "Klaus," She returned with a sigh. "I believe you know my friend, Katherine." She added, turning to her friend, who had frozen on the spot.
Klaus smiled at her, though it wasn't friendly. "Not personally, though my brother tells me good things about her." He remarked, nodding in Katherine's direction.
Katherine bit her tongue, and clenched her jaw. "Same." She replied, semi-coldly.
Klaus nodded. He expected as much from her. "So, where are you two heading?" He asked, tenderly, catching Caroline's gaze.
Caroline smiled. "To the Bennett restaurant to get something to eat." She answered.
He nodded. "Well, have a good dinner." He remarked, stepping back from the women.
Caroline felt an empty space in her heart as he stepped further back. "Thanks." She replied, smiling softly at him.
Klaus nodded, and moved to walk past them. He paused next to Katherine, and leaned towards her ear. "My home, nine tomorrow." He ordered, watching her give a curt nod, before turning his head to Caroline. "Shall I see you tomorrow?" He asked, watching Caroline's eyes light up.
Caroline nodded, and smiled. "Sure." She answered, a little too brightly.
Klaus smiled, and nodded. "I'll call you later." He remarked, glancing once more at Katherine before walking away.
Katherine frowned the further he got, and turned her attention back to Caroline. "You like him a lot, don't you?" She asked, though she knew the answer.
Caroline rolled her eyes. "Let's go eat." She remarked, turning away, and heading down the street.
Katherine nodded. "Oh, Caroline, you're falling in love." She whispered, shaking her head. "Don't fall in love with a Mikaelson; they end up breaking your heart." She added to herself, following her friend down the street.
