"Fuck!" I threw my mp3 player at Alucard's head which he immediately caught and threw back at me. I caught it quickly, shoving it into my pocket. I had been at the Hellsing manor for about a month now and Alucard still scared the shit out of me when he phased through my wall. I groaned pulling my semi long, black trench coat on and glared as the vampire before me. I may be a vampire as well but I'm sure I wasn't as annoying as he was.
I pulled my cigarette from my lips and blew out the smoke before snuffing it out into my ashtray. "So what's happening, Dracula?"
He grinned as he took his usual spot in the winged back chair in my bedroom. "Nothing of sorts. How was your training with Walter today?"
"It was fine. I knock him to the mat about 15 out of 20 times." I grinned, pulling my hair up into a ponytail then turned to him.
He was watching me through his goggles as a smirk started on his face. "Good. This means you can go on your first mission with me, tonight."
"Oh, really? What are we going after?"
"A couple of ghouls have been spotted in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Hellsing Organization has been requested to dispatch them from the President."
"Wait…..Obama knows that vampires exist?" I stared at him dumbfounded.
"Yes, quite so. Every President in history has."
"Well that's awesome. Maybe he isn't as shitty as I thought he was." I grinned as the red clad vampire walked up behind me, staring at me through the mirror. "Yes, but this is our last job here in North America. We leave to go back to London in a few days."
I spun on my heel, looking up at him. "You mean you guys weren't here to stay?"
Alucard shook his head slightly as he peaked over his goggles, "No. We were here as temporaries while the other vampires who watched over this place finished their jobs in other countries. They are all back now, so we can leave soon. We are only doing tonight's mission because my master wants to see how you do."
"I see." I stared at the ground for a moment then walked around him.
"Is something wrong, my dear?" I felt his hands grip my shoulders gently as I stared at the ground.
"I want to see my family before we leave." The Nosferatu turned me back to face him then cupped my cheek turning my face up to his.
"Then you shall. We well go to see them immediately after the mission." I nodded staring up at him, then I grabbed my small fedora off the table. The Hellsing insignia had been stitched to the side of it so I wore it at all times. "Let's go then."
I stared at the window of the limousine, listening to the Black Veil Brides playing through my ear buds. I knew a certain set of crimson eyes were on me so I kept mine locked on the glass in front of me. I pulled out my pack of cigarettes and pulled one out with my lips, lighting it and taking a long drag. I knew they weren't going to give me black lung ever again and they calmed my headaches that I was still getting even after I was turned. My nightmares weren't helping either. I'm sure Alucard didn't know about those, but I didn't think he would honestly care anyways.
I watched as the trees passed by my window, lost in my own thoughts when I felt a small tap on my hand. I looked over my shoulder to see who had done it, when I locked eyes with Integra. She motioned for me to pull out my headphones and I nodded jerking them out. "Yes Sir?"
"We are nearing Cincinnati and I need to give you something." I nodded, watching as she pulled out a gun, handing it to me. Then I heard Walter.
"That gun was made special custom for you. It is a G24. It will hold up to 24 bullets, which are all made of blessed silver." I grinned as I turned it over in my hands. Integra handed me a clip and I shoved it into the gun and cocked it. She handed me a holster for the gun and I put it on, making sure it was on the middle of my back. I quickly flipped the safety on the G24 afterwards and slid it into the back of my jeans. Integra handed me 4 more clips which I proceeded to slip into my coat pockets. I looked back out the window quietly, staring at the glowing red eyes that reflected back at me. They weren't my eyes though. They were Alucard's. I stared at my favorite vampire feeling my lips twitch in a small smile. He grinned back at me through the reflection and I sighed softly.
"The ghouls have been spotted around the South District of Cincinnati. Miss Steadman, You and Alucard are going to split up and search the town for the ghouls. Once you have dispatched them all I want you to remove the vampire that created them, my servant."
"Yes, my master." I felt the car come to a stop and watched as the black shadows consumed the red clad vampire. I sighed, rolling my eyes at the mellow dramatizer, then I got out of the car and scanned the area. No ghouls were here so I started walking down the back alleyway we had stopped at. I looked up at the sky as I walked and smirked. The moon was full and had a tint of red on it around the edge. I turned down another alleyway as I glanced around me before I mumbled to myself. "Tonight is a beautiful night."
"I'd have to agree."
I spun on my heels and locked eyes with muddy crimson eyes. His grin was wide and sadistic as his eyes raked my body. "Now, What is a good little girl like you doing out here on a night like this."
I raised my eyebrow then smirked. He couldn't tell I wasn't human because my eyes weren't glowing. "Oh, well I just got back from a party. I was using the alley way to get home faster."
He clicked his tongue as he walked closer to me. "My, my, my. Did the party not go as you planned?"
I shook my head, placing a sad look on my face. "No, my boyfriend ditched me for some girl who was much prettier than me."
"What a shame. Why don't you let me walk you home? I'm sure you would feel better with someone with you."
I smiled sheepishly at him. "O-Okay." He slid his arm though mine and we began walking.
"My name is Alex, by the way." He grinned looking down at me. I could see his canines begin to extend so I knew I would have to make my move soon.
"I-I'm Maria." I smiled back, batting my eyelashes. I tripped on a rock and I felt his arm wrap around my shoulders. He carried me over to a brick wall and leaned me against it. I looked up at him and slurred slightly. "S-Sorry. I think I'm a little drunk."
"That's alright dear." He smirked running his hands down my arms. He grabbed my wrists and slammed them into the wall, holding me there. "It just means this will be so much easier."
My body kicked into motion then, and I brought my knee up, slamming it into his gut. He groaned, letting me ago and stepped back. As he did I brought my foot up, hooking my heel into his gut then I shoved out, sending his body across the alley and into the wall. He slumped down and I could feel myself grinning as I pulled my G24 from my belt and flipped the safety off, aiming at his head.
He groaned then looked up at me. I trained the barrel at his forehead and smirked. "W-What are you?" He stammered staring up at me.
"You are a pathetic pest." I let my eyes shift to their glowing crimson as I stared at him. "I am what you 'think' you are. I am a vampire."
"T-That's not possible. You smell human!"
"You will never know, now will you?" I squeezed the trigger and watched as pieces of his brain and skull splattered against the wall behind him. His eyes dulled and went black, I sent two more rounds into his heart, and then I stepped back. Looking around I saw a ghoul across the street in another alley staring at me. I grinned and aim the barrel down toward it. I pulled the trigger again and watched as a few second later it dropped to the ground. Alucard phased through the wall on my right and I looked over at him, our crimson eyes locked and I knew my grin was still splitting my face. He looked down at the body on my left and he stepped out of the wall completely.
"You just finished the last of the ghouls. I was following the scent to their master but it looks like you have already dispatched him for me, my pet." I watched as he walked over to the body and crouched down examining it. I placed my gun back in its holster then covered my face with my hands. I kept them there as I felt my whole body shift back to normal. I blinked looking up at the sky through my fingers before I dropped my hands. What the fuck just happened?
I looked down at the body as shook my head. I remembered everything that just happened, of course. But as I stared down at the body I couldn't believe it. I had just killed my first vampire. I sank to my knees, watching as Alucard sent is hand through the body then jerked it right back out. Probably to further confirm that the master vampire of the ghouls was dead. I closed my eyes then stared down at my hands. There was no why I was going to tell Alucard what the vampire had just said. I cringed as I heard his words echo in my head. 'You smell human!'
I felt hands grasp my shoulder and lift me to my feet. I looked up, blinking rapidly then stared up at the Nosferatu in silence. He wasn't grinning this time. He was staring at my intently. "Amber, did you hear me? I said that I think Integra will be very impressed. What is wrong child?"
"Nothing." I shrugged out of his grip and looked at the ground shaking my head. "Let's go. I want to see my family now."
Alucard nodded and wrapped his arm around my waist. I watched as the black shadows consumed our forms.
I watched my mom and dad through the window. They were watching television together but their faces looked desolate. Mom's precious baby was gone. How could she go on? I blinked then looked up at Alucard. He was watching what they were watching on television and I swatted his arm. "Can you knock out my stepdad?"
He looked down at me questioningly. "Why do you wish me to do that?"
"Because, if I don't tell my mom soon that I am alright and what really happened she is going to kill herself. I just heard her thinking about where the razors were."
"Amber... I do not think that is such a good idea."
"Alucard. She will understand what I am better than anyone else. She had been 'believing' in vampire's since before I was born. Please. And if things don't go the way I plan then you can erase her memory. Alright?"
He stared at me for a moment then nodded, snapping his fingers. I watched as Jim slumped down in the recliner. "He will be out for an hour."
I nodded then Alucard grabbed my hand and phased us to the front door. I grasped the knob and twisted. It was still unlocked. I pushed the door open and walked in looking at my mom. Her eyes locked with mine and I saw tears wash down her face. She jumped up and ran over to me, hugging me tightly.
"Amber!" She screamed looking at me. "Where have you been?"
"Mom." I took her hands in mine and led her back to the couch, sitting down. "You remember how I always believed in vampires?" she nodded slightly and I smiled softly at her. "Promise not to freak out?"
"Yes, Amber I promise. Now what is it?"
I closed my eyes, taking in a deep breath. Then I opened my eyes and mouth and looked up at her. She gasped, covering her hand with her mouth. "You're a vampire!?"
I nodded staring at her as I felt my teeth and eyes shift back to normal. "How did this happen?" Mom squeaked out of mouth.
"Alucard. You can come in now."
I smiled slightly. I had shut to door on him a second ago but I knew that wouldn't bother him. I watched as Michelle's jaw dropped open when tall, dark, and handsome walked through the door and turned to face my mother.
"Good evening, Mrs. Love. I am Alucard Hellsing."
My mom looked over at me her mouth shutting instantly. "You mean that guy you used to always talk about from your cartoon you always watched?"
"Yes, Mom. You get to meet first hand Dracula, king of all vampires." She stared at Alucard with a dumb look on her face.
"My dear. My real name is Vladimir Tepes." He grinned looking across the room at me.
"Excuse the hell out of me!" I picked up a pencil off the table and slung it at his head. He grabbed it and snapped it between his fingers.
"Amber! You don't do things like that to the King of the Undead!" My mom smacked the back of my head which then caused Alucard to cackle.
"That's bullshit, Mom! You have no idea how annoying that ass is!" I jerked a thumb in his direction. He just grinned back at me. I rolled my eyes scoffing at him.
"My dearest Amber, we must go soon so you can pack for London," Alucard smirked at me.
"L-London!? You're leaving again?" My mom squealed.
"Yes, Mom. I came to let you know I was alright. And to give you my new cellphone number. You can be the only person who calls me. Do you understand?" She nodded slightly as she stared at me. I handed her the slip of paper. "No one can ever know I was here." She nodded again then hugged me around the neck tightly.
"I love you so much, Sis. Take care and please don't hesitate to text me." I sighed hugged her back gently. I loved my mom more than anything else in this world but she knew this is what I had always wanted.
"If anyone asks I sent you a postcard to let you know I was alright. And don't try to get someone to trace me because Hellsing with just crash their system or sick Alucard on them." Mom glanced at the red clad vampire then nodded looking at me. She then stood up and walked over to the Nosferatu. He stared down at her raising an eyebrow.
"You better take care of my little girl. Do you understand?" I could see his eyes widen as he looked past my mom's head at me. I grinned right back at him then whistled looking to the side to let him know he was on his own.
"I will take care of your child for all eternity, Mrs. Love." My mom stared at him or a moment then nodded and hugged me again as I stood up.
"I love you so much sweetie. Goodbye."
I felt tears form in my eyes as I hugged my mom back tightly. They spilled over as I kissed her cheek. "I love you, too, Mom." I let her go and stepped away.
I felt Alucard's arms coil around my waist then the black shadows wrapped around us as I waved goodbye to my mom one final time.
