Will hasn't called again. Sonny meets his mother's eyes as he looks up from his uneaten plate of pancakes. He can't eat it. "Will left you, didn't he?" "I don't want to talk about him, mom." She sighs "I know and I understand. You're still hopeful and you don't want us to be angry at him, just in case... I've been there, you know. You have a half-brother after all." Sonny stays quiet. She speaks on "I know how much it hurts. And yes, there is always hope. You can reunite or you can get better, even without him. I'm aware you don't think it's possible at the moment, but it happens. It's what makes us adults still grow up. I know you, Sonny, as if you were my son... I know how strong you can be." She takes his hand "I'm more worried about Will, actually. Because he'll soon realize what he's lost and it will haunt him..."
Sonny prepares Abigail's coffee, slowly. She's looking at him with kindness. He's managed to work, today, at least at the counter. Chad is still in charge of the managing. He comes in with T. This time, Sonny only says hello. They start working side by side. T is as efficient as always and very nice to customers, but at one point, he lets a cup fall next to the machine. He must have burned himself. He rubs his hand, looking ill-at-ease. "Hi, Sonny!" It's Mary. Without any make-up and she's wearing a pair of tattered sweats, too big for her. He hair is tucked under a cap. But Sonny gives her the little knowing smile of one who is aware of how much energy it must have taken to just leave the house. T comes nearer "Welcome to Common Ground, miss. What can I get you?" Sonny is still in awe of how much T has improved when talking to girls. He doesn't hit on any one of them, yet he's always attentive. Chad calls for help from the office. When Sonny comes back, all the customers have their orders and Mary is talking with T who is asking her "Would you like to go there with me? I have great tickets." Sonny shakes his head, he's been too quick in judging. Mary has a grave, almost desperate look and replies "It depends. Do you like men or not?" which has Sonny laugh for the first time in days, especially because of T's face at hearing this.
Fortunately, she's already left, after saying "maybe" and putting a big grin on T's lips, when Sebastian comes into the coffee-house. Sonny's whole body stiffens and he watches his rival walk to him, with a hesitant step. He has a black eye and Sonny wonders how that happened. Does Mary have a protecting big brother who decided to make things straight?
"Sonny, can we talk?" "You're kidding?" Sebastian sighs "It won't be long. I wanted to apologize, I don't know what came over me. I didn't want to hurt you. I just couldn't resist with Will in the room. He's so... pure and magical and..." Sonny listens to the echo of his own feelings and starts moving toward the back, not to make a scene. He can't be a hypocrite, after all, he's scolded T and Audrey, he has to stay quiet too. But Sebastian follows him and adds "You don't know how it is, your family is ok with it and your friends don't care or they're gay too. When I met Payne and Tyler, it was a shock. Then, Will, well, he knows the pain and the rejection, he listened..." "Go away..." If he doesn't, then Sonny will have to leave and he's not sure he'll be able to come back after. "Come on, Sonny, please!" He stops when he spots T in front of him. Sonny sees T's red fist and makes the connection with the black eye. T growls "Man, I told you not to go near Will again. It's the same for Sonny. You've made enough damage." Sebastian does leave.
Sonny takes T to the storage room. "Explain! I have a right to know! Where is Will if he isn't with Sebastian?" "Sonny, I made a promise to Will. Believe-me, he's not with that jerk! Do you think he has that bad taste?" "You do know that Mary, the one you just hit on, was his girlfriend?" "Oh, shit!"Sonny rubs his eyes "Will called me just once and he won't answer to my messages. Can you tell him one? Please?" "No need. He knows already, you're mad at him, things are over between you..." "Is that what he thinks?"
"Tell him that..." He pauses. The anger is boiling inside and he doesn't know who's the real recipient. As long as Will doesn't explain, nothing will change "... tell him I'm waiting for him. Always."
